I love Main Moon. The food is wonderful (my only complaint is that they don't make my favorite - Ma Po Tofu..) The proprietoress is very friendly and efficient. Turn around is very fast (except at prime take-out time) and always accurate to the request. Parking can be a problem and will be worse when the new condos are finished and filled. This was by far the worst meal I've ever eaten in my life. I started with the steamed dumplings which were moderately ok. Then I had the chicken in garlic sauce, and that chicken wasn't even chicken. It had a similar consistency to snot, and tasted like it too! I threw that out after one bite. Worst money spent ever! read more

Main Moon! Fairly decent Americanized Chinese option in Hamilton, NY. Given that it is the 3rd smallest college town in America, that is pretty good! 2 things people need to understand when going to a take-out Chinese joint; don't expect good service, don't expect overly healthy options, and don't expect a fine dining experience. We came here on a Saturday night at 8:30 PM with two adults and two teenagers. There was no one else eating in, all the business seemed to be take away. They have many tables that will seat 4 to 6 people and we chose one of them. The place is very clean and organized. You have to go pick up the paper menu yourself at the counter and pick out what you want. I circled the items we had chosen took them to the cashier whereupon she rang them up and I paid. They take credit cards! The chef immediately began preparing our order and our food was ready within a couple minutes. With each maincourse you get a side of white rice. You pick your drinks from a drink cooler they have against the wall. All sodas and bottled water. The quality and taste of the food was good but not outstanding, and for this reason I only gave it three stars. For convenience and efficiency I would give it 4 to 5 stars. My friends and I were visiting Colgate University and craved for some Chinese food, so we went to Main Moon (the only option in town, I think). We came in around 2pm and there were no other customers. It seems that most orders are take-outs. I found it strange that the host doesn't bring out water but have it in a gallon bottle and we had to get it ourselves. This place is definitely cheap. For lunch special, you got a meal (rice + 1 meat/veggie option + soup) for less than $6. We ordered 4 dishes for 3 people and each of us paid $10 including tips. On Saturdays they even have $8 buffet. The portion is definitely good for one person. The food is not terrible, though a little less than okay. The lo mein here is incredibly salty - make sure you ask for less salt. General Tso chickens are not so fresh and chewy, though they tasted alright to me. Main Moon Restaurant is by no means a five star dining destination but it has a strong reminiscent link to my time as a student at the university. That counts for something right?!?!? The food is decent and appropriately priced but this place was oftentimes a gathering spot for my friends and me to recap the weekend's festivities over piping hot Chinese cuisine. A few fan favorites are lo mein, chicken or beef and broccoli, and general tso chicken. Under the original owners/operators the food was good. Now the food quality has dimisished . Two times I bought a chicken dinner ( to go ) to found the meat so tough I could not chew it. However, acknowledging that doesn't preclude a thorough appreciation for how sub-par Main Moon is. I grew up in a small town in upstate NY, and I was still disappointed by the Chinese food from MM. BE WARY of chicken dishes; often the chicken is fatty and gross. They only do delivery for orders of $30 or more, or at least that was the rule when I was in Hamilton. Of course there's take-out. They don't accept credit cards (but they do accept 'Gate card). Decent buffet on Friday nights, esp. considering how small the place is. Closed on Tuesdays - and for some reason, I always got Chinese food cravings on Tuesdays. On the up side, "small" portions off this menu are probably enough to satiate you as a meal, and sometimes if you're eating in the restaurant, the woman at the cash register will bring the food right to your table. It's just a few steps, but still a nice surprise. Verdict: not that great, but it's better than nothing. read more

Our family hasn't eaten here in a year because they have not offered curbside pick-up, still don't. This was honestly the worst meal we've had at Main Moon, literally since they opened for business. $88 for two appetizers and five (quart) entrees. Ordered at 4:30, but it wasn't ready for pick up until 7:00 because they were "too busy". I'm very glad the local restaurants are busy again, but that doesn't excuse the wait, the expense, or the horrid food. Slimy, tasteless, and it looked as though everything was frozen and just heated, even the meat - they also had no selections that had mushrooms or snow peas, so we had to alter most of the entrees we wanted to order. I don't know why things have gone downhill so badly at Main Moon, but I can NOT recommend this place to anyone. read more

As a local, it can be hard to find a variety of dining options in town so it's certainly nice to have an option for Chinese food. The food is satisfying and the best you can find in a 20 mile radius. The service is always polite and quick. I have never dined in- always take out- but it's a great weekday dinner fix when you don't want to prepare something yourself. I was so hungry I ate the egg roll on my 40 minute drive home with my take out. Now let me tell ya. This was the most horrible chinese I've even had. General chicken was dried up like it was dehydrated and wrapped with the skin of the chicken. So nasty! My husband had boneless spare ribs. They were all fat!! No meat!!! Just the fat!! The worst restaurant experience of my entire life. I came here with my friend on a Thursday evening and we were the only ones there. The waitress/hostess finally came out to take our orders after twenty minutes. I asked for a cup of water and she grabbed the inside of a cup with her unclean hands and pointed to the side of the restaurant. I walked over and could not find any water dispenser, so I asked her to clarify. She pointed again and said "OVER THERE" and I finally saw that there was a gallon jug of water I could pour from. Our food took about 35 minutes to arrive, and when it got to us, it was cold. I felt uncomfortable eating cold beef that I paid $10.80 for, so I politely asked her to heat it up. She brought me a styrofoam container for some reason so I repeated that my food was cold and I wanted her to heat it up. She rolled her eyes and humiliated us by sighing loudly then stomping back to the kitchen. Once I was able to eat my food, it was truly the most terrible Chinese food I have ever eaten. The meat had a weird aftertaste and the rice was undercooked. The sauce was also disgusting and tasted like ketchup. I think there are new owners! Very disappointing! We ordered pork egg rolls - there was no discernible pork and they were very bland. The cashew chicken was mainly diced celery and carrots with a small amount of chicken and a sprinkle of cashews in top of the dish. Again, very bland! Don't bother. read more

I have had a lot better meals from this restaurant but lately teh rice has been too greasy and I wake up with bags under eyes effect. Please use less oil when stur frying rice, it tasted like it went into the fryer bin... Maybe change the brand of oil? It is different from when the restaurant opened. read more
