I wanted sconces that would hold taper candles, not the electric sort that leave you having to hide the trailing cord. So I decide to run to Sweet Magnolia to replace a candle that had recently burnt out completely when, lo and behold!, there is the most gorgeous pair of gold-leafed wall sconces hanging right before my eyes! This is why I love Sweet Magnolia - you can find such elegant pieces here when you least expect it. I also appreciate that their prices don't put a huge dent in your wallet. $58 for the pair? I'll take them! The store also carries the greatest soy candles ever by Aquiesse which last a rather long time and come in several delightful fragrances. They also carry an array of other home goods - Forte teas, place settings, bath and body products, stationery, baby gifts, and jewelry. Definitely a great little shop for finding last minute gifts or a treat for yourself. I've seen similar items at other stores like Anthropologie for twice the price, so why not patronize a local entrepreneur instead?

Whenever I need a little gift for someone (or myself) I know I can find it! To top it off she's really friendly, and always up for a chat. It is really nice to be able to shop local and we are lucky we have a boutique like Sweet Magnolia in the neighborhood.

Heirloom is a small, eclectic mix of the shop's own line of porcelain tableware, antique and vintage finds, and other treasures. Their porcelain products really caught my eye as they have and entire line of pieces modeled off of berry and peach baskets. I picked up a set of small cups that resemble the little peat pots one would use for seed planting - perfect for little succulent gardens! I also nabbed a glass cloche for my indoor terrariums. They are stocked with the sweetest tea towels, soaps, seed packets, and journals made from re-purposed book covers. You'll also find refinished furniture pieces and other odds and ends for your home. The shop also doubles as ceramic studio! Be sure to check their store hours as they are not open on Mondays or Tuesdays. You can also find their porcelain tableware at Terrain and Williams Sonoma.

We believe in displaying our goods functionally and artfully so that our shoppers can envision creating a similar environment at home and living with goods that are handmade, local, sustainable, repurposed, or vintage. We feature an ever-growing selection of goods from local artists and makers, many using repurposed materials as the foundation for their work: birdhouses skillfully assembled using salvaged architectural remnants, or wreaths, roses, and ornamental objects created from repurposed book pages.

The woman explained that they have a large fulfillment area because they do many online orders. They ship tastykake and Philly soft pretzels all over the U.S.. Unfortunately I did not have my phone with me to take any pictures but they had many Philadelphia and Pennsylvania gifts such as t-shirts, magnets, signs, gift baskets. There's a couple shirts I liked in there but this one pictured was my favorite. I may go back and get more. There were two ladies in there explaining some of the store to us and about an NFL player that recently visited because he purchased something for his mom. They also have a store in Reading Terminal Market. You can also check them out online at PAGeneralStore.com

We wish them great success there! I mention its neighbor because that is the way I first noticed this shop set back from the street. I came out of Duck Sauce and walking on the covered front porch I noticed the new store and went in to have a look. I didn't know that homemade chocolate would taste so good after a good spicy Asian meal, but it did! In fact, I suggest that these owners talk to each other and start to cross market their goods. A little chocolate delivered with the lunch or dinner bill would be a great touch (and better than the Andes Mints). A discount coupon for a quality Chinese or Thai repast with the purchase of $10. worth of candy, would also be a hot commodity. Maybe they are already doing that, but I did not see it. Come talk to me. S/P is a veritable wonderland of sweets set in a well appointed comfortable setting. Made to look "country," it succeeds in taking you away from the world outside and dropping you into a childhood daydream. Hard not to smile and salivate when looking at the enormity of the collection here, and reminiscing about those candies you craved as a kid. Yes. It is a little decadent, but it is so innocent that no one will turn you in to the diet police.
