Great place to buy gifts for all types of people. I love the selection here and everything is beautifully arranged.

Since I'll be coming back home for the holidays I may as well cover the place that caught me off guard in a good way during one of my last visits. During a First Friday weekend I had agreed to go back to my homeland of Narberth and take care of the family dog while my folks went on a much needed weekend rendezvous. admittedly I was feeling a little bit bummed by the ordeal because it was to be my first weekend of fun after completing the long haul of a story for City Paper (it's not like you haven't read it, but just in case - http://citypaper.net/articles/2009/10/08/red-stuart-sword-swallower) and I wanted to enjoy it by taking part in an art filled tradition. But these sacrifices are what family is for right? And little did I realize, even in Narberth I got the chance to take in a part of the First Friday spirit! It might have turned out for the better that I didn't do the arts crawl; because after an all nighter of revisions and back up interviews, sandwiched between two slices of my day job, and topped off with 2 energy drinks and 4 coffees to keep me awake throughout, I was feeling more than a little bit FRAZZLED. and as a result I was having hallucinatory visions of sword swallowers, clowns, and sideshow performers attacking me (read the story and you may understand). So when I saw people having fun and enjoying drinks inside an unexpected art store/gallery after I got off the train and picked up dinner at Maido (another reason why Narberth is kind of cool - http://www.yelp.com/biz/maido-narberth), I truly thought that my mind was playing tricks on me. But I'm happy to report that Sweet Mabel is in fact real. Once I came upon that realization I set foot inside and took in all kinds of jewelry, neckties, novelty vintage style signs, posters, paintings, lawn items that were cooler than gnomes (sorry gnome), magnets, and all kinds of other creative trinkets and baubles. and since it was a First Friday they had out a great assortment of snacks, wine, and beer from Magic Hat. It was enough to make me swoon with delight in my sideshow filled stupor! And it's things like all of the above that made Sweet Mabel an amazing find. Especially for suburbia! read more

I love Sweet Mabel's. They have one of a kind gifts that you can't find at other shops- and certainly not at the big chains. I also feel good about supporting local artists as well as women's cooperatives around the world- bought a belt that was made in Peru (I think?). As adorable and awesome as gift shops get. Artisan made jewelry, tiles, ornaments, art, lamps, mittens, etc. The prices here run the gamut. A few things might earn the four $ rating, but there are many many items in the 1-2$ range as well. They really support local artists - some of the stuff is a little wacky and some is absolutely beautiful. I got some great glass blown and felted Christmas ornaments and a ceramic tile portrait of a boston terrier on my last visit. read more

Great place for grabbing a unique gift for a friend. It's also a fantastic place to treat yourself to a cool piece of jewelry, pottery or piece of art. Eclectic mix of artwork. Presents local artists and craftsman which I appreciate. The owners always tell you a little about the artist which makes the piece more meaningful. Definite must visit if you are in the neighborhood. And everything is reasonably priced so you can find something on any budget. read more

This ecletic mix of jewerly, neckties, art, beer glasses and lawn decor is made with "found objects"- yes, trash picked. Sounds unappealing but when you step into the store and attempt to look at every single beautiful, original, creative piece and art and just fun stuff you can't help but feel as if you are moving the economy along and recycling your grandfather's old vinyl records which are now coasters. Good Karma all around. Not only are the products high quality but the owner of the store Tracey could not be nicer, more helpful, willing to bend over backwards to help. An artist in her own rite, she also offers workshops for children and never misses a chance to show kids how that bottle cap you are throwing in the trash can could really become a very useful windchime. This is one of my favorite places in Narberth to pick out gifts or a piece of jewerly for myself. And my kids love the workshops. Go there. read more
