Extremely disappointed by my visit to Paper on Pine. I stopped in after noticing some of the cool-looking gifts in their window. The store is pretty large so me and my group of 2 other people were inside browsing for 15-20 minutes. There was one employee, an older man with glasses, and the whole time he did not acknowledge us even though we were the only people in the store. A hello would have been nice, but my experience was still mostly positive at that point. When I approach the counter to pay, the man working heads over to the other end of the store to tidy some shelves. Me and my group wait patiently for a few minutes before he comes back, gives a rude look, and asks "That all?" I cordially say "Yes, thank you", pay for my items and head out. As I am heading home and already out of Philadelphia, I glance at the receipt and notice he rang up what were supposed to be $3 stickers as $6 magnets. I don't mind paying $6 for a sticker, but blatantly charging for a different, higher-ticket item is outright fraud and deception. The customer service already left a bad taste in my mouth and this was the cherry on top. read more

Service was great. Cindy the owner was very nice and helpful. Price and selection of what I wanted was fair and perfect. I set the world record on at the Philadelphia Art Museum on the Rocky steps and I was on the hunt for a Rocky themed card to say thank you to my aunt and uncle. I was walking down the street a few days after the run and the little baby t shirt in the window caught my eye. Sure enough they had the card I was looking for. For such a cute store for a variety of gifts the service and policies are a little ridiculous. With a receipt you can only return for a store credit and if you lose your receipt you're just SOL. The customer service is also questionable. I asked about the return policy and the response I got was "why? Are you going to return some greeting cards?" I asked to keep my original receipt and I was given some hesitation before actually being able to keep it. read more

Stopped into paper on pine yesterday to get some gifts for my friend that moved out of Philly. The customer service was great and the man with the glasses was so hilarious! They had great products and all of the Philly merch you can imagine. I ended up buying an eagles hand towel. My wife stopped in to get some cards for her friends back home. They sent us off to my new job in Philly buried under a mountain of gifts and well-wishes, so no regular drugstore cards would do. This store is the kind of place where you get the top-shelf cards...a great selection of a cards...they have three-dimensional cards with little felt charms and some cool silk-screened prints, as well as the usually overwhelming array of stationary. We hired Paper on Pine to design our wedding invitations. After 6 weeks (double the quote timeframe) of unanticipated micromanaging, poor customer service, general incompetence, and delivery delays, we finally received the cards. During our initial consultation, the owner misrepresented what they could deliver (showing us lookbooks from outside vendors and claiming credit). We expected a professional and creative product but were surprised and disappointed by the lazy, uninspired work at every turn. The designer was unable to meet our clear requirements from the start and required handholding throughout the process. She didn't handle our feedback on her lackluster proofs well-- offering excuses, retorts, and attitude instead of a willingness to better understand our instructions and vision. Given the high price we paid for the invitations and the owner's work product claims during our initial consultation, we expected Paper on Pine to take great pride in their work. They did not. We would strongly recommend choosing another store for your card and stationary design needs. read more

Even though my life has been completely crazy with a wedding coming up, I had to take a quick time out to comment on how LOVELY and EASY my experience with Paper on Pine and specifically Mackenzie was. Invitations are important these days, we all know that, but I really just knew I wanted them to be lovely, tasteful and maybe have flowers. With little guidance or direction, Mackenzie came up with a gorgeousss final design that was exactly what I had hoped (without even knowing :)). Her communication was on point, and she was always on time with design proofs and most importantly I ended up with a design I was happy and proud to send out to loved ones. For anyone who is/has gotten married, you know how important it is to just have even one thing go smoothly/be stress free & turn out even better than you'd expected. I went in recently to find some cute cards to mail out to long lost friends. It seems that an entire gaggle of people don't think I remember how to communicate without my laptop, so I wanted to prove them wrong. I also wanted to assure myself that I still knew how to use a paper and pen, and I figured I could kill two birds with one stone. This store is super cute and has some great products. I found some silkscreened notes that are beautiful as well as a few funny cards that made me laugh out loud. If you're looking for wedding invites, this seems like it would be a good stop as there's an entire section within this petite shop dedicated to gettin' hitched. I'd love to rate it higher but my customer service experience left a lot to be desired. There was only one other browser in the store when I was there, and the woman behind the counter didn't acknowledge either one of us. No hello, no offer of assistance, nothing. I can put up with a lot but unfriendly service just doesn't fly with me. As a result, I decided to hold off on my purchase and go somewhere else. In the end, I made my own cards. I popped into Paper On Pine today to pick up a little something for my love. I ended up with little somethings for four people I love. The cards are absolutely perfect. The selection at first appears small, but when every card says exactly the right thing, you don't need aisles to choose from. While I didn't have time to peruse the rest of the store, I have a feeling I'd love every inch of it. At check out, the (very nice) woman working there gave me a card for frequent visits. I stopped in here because the shop looked cute from outside. When I first walked in the person minding the store was chatting with some customers? I think they bought something. Well they were talking for a good 20 minutes. During that time I picked out some stationary I liked and then walked around trying to not be rude or pushy about the fact that they were clearly having a getting to know you session. As it turns out the customer (a new mom) was possibly employing the shop girl as a babysitter. Alright, finally they left and I thought, YES, I can finally buy this stationary... OR NOT because she promptly walked away from the register all ecstatic about the "networking" she was doing. I left the stationary at the front of the store and walked out. Paper on Pine is my go-to stop when I need gifts to be beautifully wrapped. It's conveniently located right near Open House and Verde, my go-to "I have no idea what to get someone" gift stores, so I can get everything done in one little stop on 13th Street. Their wrapping paper is a little pricey, but it's so gorgeous that it's worth every penny. I walked in today on my lunch break with a few gifts to wrap that weren't boxed up, and was disappointed to learn that they don't have any boxes in store (not even for purchase)! I was a little put off by the lack of help that I was offered by the girl working in the store, especially since I was the only customer present at the time. I am accustomed to smaller boutique-like shops going out of their way to help their customers and to make a sale. I had to settle for a gift bag this time around, but I really think that it would make sense for a store that sells wrapping paper, ribbon, and bows, to think about having some boxes on hand. read more

I love, love, love this store! My last visit was before I joined Yelp - maybe in the late Spring - but I've ventured in on many occasions. This is my go-to place for specialty cards. When I don't have time to make my own, I know I can always find a well designed, unique creation from Paper on Pine. My latest find? A box of engraved, hand bordered (mustard color silk screen on cream colored paper) thank you cards from Vera Wang. Simple and elegant, only the words "thankyou" ("you" is bold) on the front. I paid a reasonable $30 for 10 notes & envelopes. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Yes. They also stock a wide variety of Moleskine books & specialty gift items, but I normally stick to the cards. The staff have always been friendly and accessible - there if you need assistance, but never overbearing. read more

Phenomenal customer service here. I've been to Paper on Pine a few times, and everyone I've spoken with has been incredibly kind and personable. I've talked with them about Orange is the New Black, about Tom Robbins, about a friend of mine who had her wedding invitations made there...I just love that kind of connecting, I love when people are as friendly and chatty as I am. I was walking by recently, saw a sign for 2016 planners, and stopped in. I am so excited for next year because of the planner I bought here. It's pink and week at a glance and perfect! I went back a couple weeks later with my best friend, she bought the same planner, and I bought what is basically the best tote bag that I've ever owned. I totes love totes. I've also bought note cards and gift bags and tissue paper here. I especially enjoy the wall of note cards and envelopes in so many different colors. Very highly recommend. read more

Since moving to Philadelphia, Paper on Pine has provided me with paper supplies as well as different stationary items. It is conveniently located and is in a great neighborhood. What Paper on Pine has in selection - it lacks in customer service. I have been in this store numerous times and the customer service is extremely poor. Most recently, I was able to hear about the neighborhood gossip before I was even acknowledge in the store. Once acknowledge, I was informed to wait just a second so the conversation with the other co-worker could be finished. I truly believe that this store has only been successful for the sole fact it is one of the only places to in Center City - it is not due to their customer service. If it were not for that - Paper on Pine would cease to exist. read more

If you are looking for someone do design invitations or your stationary, the male employee (I am not sure if he is a manager or even the only male employee) has incredible knowledge of the overwhelming amount of options and can steer lost customers in the right direction. I think it's funny that its still called Paper on Pine even though its now located on 13th Street. Either way it's awesome. I wandered in the Pine Street location looking for classy thank-you notes and there were many to choose from. I could have purchased some that cost more than the gift I was sending said note for. That was a bit extravagant for me but I did find some suitably nice and priced accordingly. My husband and I also just shopped for a good 45 minutes playing with the little chotchkes and reading the funny stuff they have. Would be great for a gift when you don't know what to get. The best local place to find greeting cards, period. Everything they have is interesting and artistic, in styles I've never seen before. Lots of cool three-dimensional cards, letterpress, rich patterns and textures, whimsical drawings, elegant photographs, etc. Three stars only because it's rather pricey and the selection is much smaller than it could be (they could fit a lot more cards in there-- look at Verde or Open House down the street for examples of how to display a huge inventory neatly in a small space). I used to gripe about the staff, but the male employee who's been there for the past year or so is so pleasant that he compensates for the other, frostier employees. I am sometimes disappointed by the lack of diversity amongst the cards, and I hope that they at some point get a larger blank card collection, but overall, it's a fantastic store with helpful, friendly staff. I've been to Paper on Pine numerous times, starting back when they were actually on Pine and had just opened. In those days, I would give them a five-star review without any hesitation. Over the years, however, I drop in less frequently and I'm more hesitant to spend as much money, although I really try to support small businesses and local shops. I went in today trying to track down a particular journal that I thought they probably wouldn't have (from what I could tell online from the brand itself and copious online searching). However, I was willing to venture into the city to PoP to see what alternatives they had to offer, again to support a small business/local store. First, the woman there rather snobbily "corrected" my pronunciation of the brand, which would have been fine, except that the brand itself is clear on their site about how it's pronounced. Many avid journallers love this brand and know the correct pronunciation. She then informed me that the ONLY journal she had similar to what I was looking for (with an elastic band around it) was the one she showed me. I asked her a few questions about it, and she was unable to answer them. I then discovered another journal with an elastic band around it literally three journals away from the one she showed me! One of the questions I asked her was about the bleeding and ghosting on the paper of the journal she showed me. She asked me what pens I used, which was a perfectly reasonable question. I told I use a variety, but I like the Sakuras. She shrugged dismissively and half rolled her eyes. Sakuras are not an obscure brand of pens and are certainly a brand I would expect a stationery store worker to at least be familiar with. Even if she didn't know the brand, it's rude to dismiss a customer in such a way! The one helpful thing she did do was suggest that I go to Blick. I went there and spent nearly $30 on the journal I wanted and on several pens. I'm off to give Blick a very good Yelp review now! read more

Now that I'm moonlighting as a Wedding Planner, I've been to my fair share of paper shops... So many of them have outrageous prices, snooty staff, and a shop layout that would give fire marshals bad dreams. Not so at Paper on Pine!! The prices are very agreeable! The staff is funny, helpful, and extremely polite!! The layout of the store is open and inviting! And best of all, if they don't have what you want in stock they can get it in 3-5 business days! For the past 3 weeks I've been looking for tea rose, chocolate truffle, and ivory card stock (25% linen, acid free) paper to use in lieu of a traditional guest book... This is the first place that I was able to find the paper I needed and in stock! At $0.35 per card, I was in heaven!! There are all kinds of cards, stationary, and great finds throughout the store. I wondered around this neighborhood looking for Duross & Langel (I was unlucky in my random search) but I did manage to stumble upon this cute shop. In fact, there's a whole row of cute shops! I walked in to look for a "I'm sad that you aren't here anymore" card. I didn't find that specific card but I did find a beautiful hand silkscreened blank card that would do the trick. The shop is small but filled up with some incredibly beautiful and witty cards, as well as, a handful of cute items, paper, and other things you don't really think you need until you walk in (ex: root beer scented recycled pencils). The staff, which was only one woman, was very nice and apologized profusely for having me wait while the register was messed up. It was a good experience! read more

Full of super cute things starting from cards to colored papers. Things like this, I fancy! Things like this that i fancy, they put a whole through my wallet too. I worked with paper on Pine for several of my wedding needs. Their design team helped bring my vision to life for our Philadelphia themed Save the Date. The prices were fairly reasonable but the customer service was top notch. When we had a small issue with my menus they stepped in and completely resolved the issue which is why if I never need to have something printed again in Philadelphia they are my go to place! read more

I don't get it. The few products that they do have are pretty good, but their selection is quite dismal. Birthday cards, thank you cards, holiday cards - never more than a minimal selection. Even lettered cards - i.e. with a single letter monogram - they're usually out of at least 1/4 of the alphabet. Good in concept, but needs work on execution, particularly inventory + selection. My daughter had custom artwork and calligraphy done for her wedding invitations that we purchased a heavy card stock paper for, the paper had a pearl essence sheen and we also had them pre-cut to the size of the invitations, response cards, etc, surprisingly having the paper pre-cut was an issue for many, we called Paper in Pine to see if they could do the printing, after calling around we called Paper in Pine, the woman on the phone said she'd need to see them so we went there, she took a brief look and told us that she could not print them because the paper was pre-cut and because of the sheen the ink wouldn't hold, I asked if she could test one to see if it would work, I even told her I'd be happy to pay any extra cost but she held to her story that it wouldn't work and then she added that she had a 3:30 appointment , I gave them 1 star for answering the phone quickly, but with her unwillingness to even try we ended up taking them to "Papery" on Locust street, I'd also like to add that the woman at Papery ALSO had a 3:30 appointment but she was optimistic and said she didn't think it'd be a problem, we went over, she test printed them on the paper and they were perfect! they wanted our business, they reassured us beyond any doubt and they matched our excitement for our daughters wedding, they printed everything and they came out beautiful, Paper on Pine gave me the impression that they didn't want my business, they didn't even want to try, and unfortunately that 1st impression is a lasting one, I can thank them for steering us away because it put us into the hands of a shop that exceeded our expectations. read more
