This business does not support the West Philly community and operates unethically…read more The owner has been repeatedly seen taking large quantities of books from the neighborhood's free little libraries--those small, birdhouse-shaped boxes meant to provide free access to reading materials for anyone in the community. These libraries exist to serve those who can't afford to buy books, especially children and families. Instead of respecting that purpose, the owner takes the donated books and resells them for profit. This behavior undermines a valuable community resource and limits access to free literature for people who truly need it. It's disappointing to see a local business act in a way that harms rather than helps the neighborhood it operates in.

The staff here is fabulous and it gives off the best vibes. You could spend an hour looking through all of the different categories and getting lost in the pages. I appreciate the strange variety and the fact that books range from old to ancient to almost brand new. Always something to discover. The cats are an added bonus and the kind staff the cherry on top. I grabbed a book that had been on my "to read" list for the longest time and am so grateful this gem of an institution exists. They did a good job keeping the number of customers inside manageable. While there was still space occupied by other vendors, it was still possible to look around without having to squeeze between people. They have an extensive Pennsylvania section which includes biographies about many of of the small colleges dotting the southeast part of the state, and a large amount of genealogical books as well. The owners of THIS store have been in the book business for a while. Both put in years at a large chain bookstore. They've used that experience to create a store people WANT to shop. They are extremely knowledgeable on many topics, and very friendly. The store, like many used bookstores, is a work in progress. The difference is the people, and the staff are amazing!
