Beautiful space, with quality ingredients. But...definitely lacks proper seasoning and is catering to a certain palate that believes using any type of salt is unhealthy. I ordered the lobster panini and it was so bland. I tried using their homemade "hot" sauce to save my meal, but was crushed to discover it wasn't the least bit hot at all. It lacked any heat -- there was so little spice you could eat spoonfuls without any problem. People who love flavor - you were warned! Main Course has lots going for it. It's pretty inexpensive, reasonably quick, easily accessible off the NYS Thruway, and it has a diverse menu. There are lots of little kitchen gadgets available for purchase, as well as some pre-made dinners. For dine-in, you grab a clipboard with a menu and place an order up front. Then, you find a table in the adorable seating area and wait for your name to be called. This is my second time dining here, and the food just wasn't as good this time around. I had a bite of the create your own chopped salad here and it was beyond delicious. I am not a big salad fan, but the ingredients were super fresh and the portion was large. For my lunch, I ordered the hanger steak sandwich ($10.65) with roasted onions, melted cheddar, and portobello mushroom hash. I love steak so naturally I enjoyed the sandwich. The sandwich is good, but the potato salad I got with it was really bland. The potato salad looks amazing, but it leaves much to be desired. I threw some hot sauce on it which really kicked it up a notch. I dipped the sandwich in the hot sauce as well, which made it taste even better as well. I also tried to grilled cheese and the blackened chicken sandwich. The grilled cheese would be much better if it were on a thinner bread. The blackened chicken sandwich was bland. The madeleine cookie I had for desert was bland as well. I will stop here again, and I hope Main Course gets an additional star next time. read more

Now that I have eaten here a few times, I feel that I can update my review properly. With every visit, I fell more in love with this place. All of the food here is just so fresh and looks very inviting. I've spoken to the cooks here and they are more than just friendly... they have a big passion about what they do. And it shows! There's usually a special of the day. It's made to order and (sigh) I'm craving their food right now. I had their roasted eggplant sandwich... which was AMAZING. I am a bit bias because I love everything eggplant, but it was so well done. It also came with a few options of sides: potato salad, mixed greens, thai peanut noodles, roasted veggies, etc. I decided on the peanut noodles. It had a tangy taste but with a spicy zing! We were set on going to the Village TeaRoom but it was closed for a wedding. Thank goodness for this gem. The name was a bit confusing since we thought maybe it wasn't a real restaurant but don't worry about that - it very much is. Casual, quick, but doesn't sacrifice quality. We were super impressed with their sandwiches (only sandwiches and salads). Crispy bread that's soft in the middle, just the right amount of sauce, and the blackened chicken with avocado was delicious. We saw other plates and they looked just as good. Craft beers. And lots of baked goods as well. Yum. Only annoying thing was we did get bothered by bees while trying to sit on the patio so maybe sit inside if that worries you. (They redeemed themselves because they were cute bees ) Five stars. Very dependable spot. read more

This was a perfect spot for lunch away from the patchouli- dense downtown New Paltz but close enough to the action. Counter service was informative as they had models of the days specials to see and the cashier was patient and helpful. It took a longer-than-average time for us to get our meals but sitting on the front porch was so pleasant we didn't even mind. Loved the multiple flavors of iced tea! Both the chicken noodle and the chicken and black bean soup were delicious. This place is better suited to catering than a restaurant. You stand in line to place an order, you have to go to the counter to pick up your drinks again to pickup your order and another place to put your dishes when finished. You'll do everything but cook the meal yourself and the restaurant has the odacity to put a TIP line on the bill. Unbelievable. They reserve the largest table in the restaurant forcing those in a wheelchair to block the entrance. Good is reasonable but certainly not worth the effort. They should stick to catering only. It kinda' looks like a Starbucks inside. Place your order at the register and grab a seat, they'll softly call your name when it's ready. From what I understand, most (if not all) of the food is locally sourced and organic. Because of this, their 'specials' menu is as big as the regular menu. Prices seem reasonable and everything I've had was yummy and quite hardy. Crispy eggplant panini is a standout, for sure. Tons of vegetarian options, and they also do a lot of catering, FYI. Main course is one of my favorite spots to eat in New Paltz. I believe all the food it organic, and for that they have very reasonable prices. The people who work there are very friendly and helpful. Every time we come to New Paltz, NY we always come here to eat and this place never fails to disappoint us. Our compliments to the Chef, and staff - the food is fresh and amazingly good. We love the decor and the vibe of the place, and have no problem ordering our food and picking it up at the counter and sharing a table with strangers. My friend ordered the Pan Seared Scallops over Roasted Garlic Tomato Risotto that was simply delicious, and the presentation was something out of a Magazine. I ordered the Organic Oven Chicken that was delicious as well. We were too full to order desert - maybe next time when we travel back to town. They truly were our favorite vendor and the one most vital to our wedding day having been so flawless. During the planning process, Amanda, was an absolute rockstar in communicating with me, answering my million questions and even coordinating rentals, setting up the tasting with my parents, sister, and my husband, creating our timeline, seating chart, and overall floor plan for our reception. She truly is brilliant and an expert at what she does. Emily was MVP on the day of the wedding. She was there for my groom and I to make sure we were not without a drink and that we were able to share a split plate with both of our entrees, and enjoy all of our desserts! She was always checking in with us and coordinated a million things so wonderfully with the owners of our venue. Literally the dream team! The entire MC team is amazing. Truly the servers and bartender were so attentive and polite. Last but not least, the food is just the best. It's so fresh, so delicious and beautifully served. However, don't try coming here as a large group on a busy Friday night (with rambunctious kids in tow) and trying to find a table. That will just earn you a hairy eyeball from other patrons. The cashier was pretty emotionless and the manager/chef seemed slightly irked when I inquired about nut allergies. We were in New Paltz for the Rock the Ridge challenge at Monhonk Preserve. This looked like a great option. At first, we weren't sure we wanted to stay as it's a "order at the counter" type of venue. However, looking around at other people's food we decided to give it a try. It was SO good! Myself and a friend had amazing salads - highly recommended. Two other friends had sandwiches which they raved about and my husband had a bowl of soup that was very tasty. The decor is mismatched country, which I love. The beverage choices were excellent. Anywhere from delicious coffee to a specialty cocktail. It does have outdoor seating, although it was raining the day we were there. It's a cute place to stop for a really good salad or sandwich. Had the delicious reserve wine - very tasty. Got a salmon and broccolini dish. It was flavorful and well presented, but i was still hungry when I finished. I guess that means I should have selected a delicious cookie or some cake, but oh well. It was very noisy and hard to converse in their dining area, but I am not sure how that can be resolved. i've been going there for a number of years, that know my face in there. i had an unfortunate experience tonight. called ahead to order the smoked turkey panini. asked over phone if it was real turkey, as opposed to deli meat. they said it was real. got there, picked it up, looked at it, and it looked like sliced deli meat. once again, i asked her face to face of it was somehow real turkey, and she said it was. i said it looked like sliced deli meat, but she assured me it was sliced thin real turkey. i asked if it was from a real bird, and she said yes. got home , really looked at it, and it was clearly deli meat. what a disappointment, especially since we go there at least once a week for the last 3 years. the turkey is deli meat, with no doubt. shame for lying to a regular customer. read more

After coming here twice while visiting someone in New Paltz I just wanted to quickly shout this place out as being supremely badass. For the area it is exceptional and, frankly, even if this place were around NYC it would still kill. The sandwiches and tartines here are legit, in particular anything with the roasted chicken or smoked turkey, The peanut butter cookies are insane. Amazing cold pressed juices made in-house. Really good omelettes and grilled cheeses. They also have a couple different kinds of coffee, including Irving Farms, a local purveyor, and espresso. It all seems pretty farm to table and fresh and almost kind of old school (they serve a little green salad with big mains). The interior is like some stoned art teacher decided to focus really hard on opening a quality restaurant. I just think it is funny this place ever gets any hate on here because even for a jaded yelper like me it was still surprisingly great both times I came. read more

I have been a regular here for salads. However I haven't been here in a month and things have changed. The food is really good however the service not so much. I came here today and ordered a salad. There are 2 new people working there that I assume are new because I have not seen them before. I had to wait 30 minutes for my salad with no one else in front of me and it was not busy. I saw they placed the salad to the side to give to me . After they were helping 10 people behind of my it was really annoying to keep waiting for my salad. So I asked he woman that was asking them if he one to the side was mine and that I was waiting 30 minutes for it. She was completely rude to me about it and did not even say she was sorry. When I went home to eat my salad I saw that there was a piece of hair in my salad. Yes it could have been mine but still, the salad was sub par and did not have a lot of ingredients in it that I had asked for. Whatever it's good food but they really need to work on the service otherwise I would have put a 5 star review. read more

Shhh...This is my favorite place to eat in New Paltz. The food is farm fresh and always delicious. They rotate the menu for maximum curiosity about what yummyness they have today. And if you are gluten free they are gaining a serious edge on delicious GF desserts. The walls are lined with local photographs for sale.
