I had tracked it meticulously having even signed up for text updates. Sure, I wasn't excited about FedEx due to issues in the past but I thought this would be different. It was and was not. Where it was the same was I received a "could not deliver" notification stating that no one was home. No one had come to the door. No one called. I didn't even see a truck come up. I live in a place that has a locker system where any delivery company can come and drop off packages at any time of day. Nope, didn't happen! The driver just didn't even try. So, I went to the FedEx center at 5 PM when I was told the package would be ready for pickup. I wasn't thrilled because one of the reasons I had this shipped was because it is heavy. Where my typical experience diverged was at the shipping center. The employee who greeted me went to look for my package in the back. Another employee came out twice to ask if I needed help as I waited. The first came out for a moment to tell me that the driver didn't do what they were suppose to do (not surprised!) and then went back to look for the package. After what felt like forever but was probably ten minutes the lady came back out with my package on the cart and then helped me to my car. Between the two of us we wrestled the package into my car and I was on my way. She was great! Friendly, personable, and very helpful but I couldn't help but think of the driver had just done his or her job and delivered the package this poor FedEx lady wouldn't have to be outside trying to get a heavy, large box in my car. I know we don't often get a choice of how our packages are shipped but I would love it if FedEx as a whole improved.

And if there's no one home to sign for it, it gets stored here: the terminal for Fed Ex Ground. While they're willing to arrange delivery over the phone, sometimes it's just easier to pick it up yourself. Which is sort of an interesting experience compared to the local post office pick up. There's a number of parking spots just outside the walled-off compound that is the FedEx hub. I ended up walking up to a guard station where I was stopped and asked for my tracking number (which fortunately, I had remembered to bring). Delivering the package took 5-10 minutes: I was advised to wait in my car and the guard would come out and tell me when it was ready. It was sort of interesting to watch; the security here rivals a military installation. The grounds are bordered by a barbed wire fence. There was one guard at the gate while another two were seen patrolling the lawn and stopping and inspecting trucks going in and out. When my package was brought to the front gate, I had to show ID and enter through a metal detector to fetch it. After leaving, I wondered if we should be placing FedEx in charge of Homeland Security......

Fast forward to now, October, my husband needs a phone replacement. Yesterday the Fedex delivery once again did not call, did not use our call box, did not text us. Today we call them, try to get any info on the delivery, try to make sure the person driving the car knows what to do. We asked if they could call us, the delivery drivers don't have phones allegedly. WE were told they can't do ANY of that, they reluctantly gave us a time window between 11am - 1pm. It's 12pm the same day as I'm writing this, they tried to deliver to our alley way parking entrance and left without a word a few minutes after I got off the phone. They aren't consistent, they dont even know basic delivery instructions. The drivers dont care, the facility doesn't care, there is nothing you can do except for submit a complaint to corporate. This office doesn't even have a working phone number or google reviews, I wonder why.

But if I do have to come here, I know the staff is prompt and courteous. I've only ever had to come here to drop off Amazon returns, so I'm not familiar with their pricing for packages. They do make it pretty easy to come in and just drop off, so that service is very convenient. All in all, it's a good place inside, just maybe come during the day and lock your car doors.
