Do I need to call first? No explanation(s). It's as if the information was classified. Seeking further clarity, I called after I arrived home. While still evasive, I gathered something along the lines that it's a hit or miss on when notary services are available, just depending on the day, the time of day, and who is on shift. I walked in, smiled, and said, "Hi, how are you?" I was ignored. Thinking maybe she didn't hear me, I asked again. Instead of even the most basic courtesy, I was met with hostility. The older woman working there looked at me like I was an idiot and spoke to me with complete contempt. I have never felt so unwelcome in a place of business. To make matters worse, the store smelled like an ashtray. Between the overpowering smell of cigarette smoke and the unbelievably rude customer service, it was one of the most unpleasant customer experiences I've ever had. There is absolutely no excuse for treating another human being the way I was treated. Everyone has bad days, but that does not give anyone the right to belittle or disrespect customers. If this is the owner, I sincerely hope she reflects on how she treats people because it is unacceptable. If she is an employee, management should seriously consider whether this is the kind of person they want representing their business. I will never return, and I strongly encourage others to spend their money somewhere they will be treated with basic dignity and respect.

Last week, I had to send a test to Chicago via a pre-paid FexEx mailer. I could have called for a…read morepickup, but it was a workday and my employer has a consolidated shipping/receiving point. That causes the larger common carriers to sometimes ignore personal pickup requests from offices. So stopping by this location seemed the most sensible and reliable thing to do, especially since the test was perishable. Failure to ship that day would have meant I had to start all over again, which would have also meant another weekend day stuck at home. They weren't at all busy when I arrived. I was greeted immediately when I approached the counter by a polite and friendly young lady. I explained my "once every 10 years" experience with shipping FedEx, so she checked the label and the box carefully to make sure everything was OK. There were markings on the box which indicated she wasn't allowed to scan it and take it at the counter, but she told me it could be dropped in the deposit lockbox by the front door. Pickup hadn't occurred so I was assured the same-day shipment I needed. OK, so it's just a package drop off review. Big whoop. But: 1) I didn't wait 2) I was treated respectfully 3) The staff knew how to handle my request 4) I was in and out in 2 minutes. Maybe this isn't worth 5 stars to you, but to me, the peace of mind sure was. Thanks, FedEx/Kinkos!
