Ok I admit I was hesitant in writing this review - about my mailbox service (whoa so exciting ... I know ... please try & read on) just across the border in Merica! It's kinda like inviting your mechanic over for dinner isn't it ... ewwww! But do not judge - as they say! I'm compelled to write this due to the gratitude I have for - Mail Boxes International or MBI. You see like many Canadians & vice versa Americans, we were severely impacted by the border closure in effect since mid March 2020! Have I told you about how much I hate bats!!? S*#'! I began to wonder if I would ever be able to pick up my orders or would they be lost forever ... maybe even end up on one of those 'unclaimed items' auctions you see on TV!? 'Hey that's my 85" TV about to be sold off!' LOL. Land crossings at the border finally reopened last week. Yahoooooo!!! Cheesecake Factory - I missed you soooooo much! You see its cheaper for Canadians to set up mailboxes just across the border & receive parcels this way as a means of avoiding paying high duty! Items going through a customs inspection are charged a dreaded 'customs fee' & it ain't cheap! I am still required to declare everything I bring back to Canada to the border agents - when driving back up. But the point being - it's way cheaper this way & I save quite a bit in duty & fees! This was part of the email MBI sent out back in 2020 to all users, when the pandemic effects started to drag on ... "We have signed a short term lease on a new warehouse just down the street from us to create more room for your parcels! This increased our storage space immensely. We're continuing to keep free storage until the border opens back up." A sign of just how much the backup of parcels was occurring! Look at the ports of most waterfront cities today - major backlog of shipping containers stuck on ships unable to dock because of labour issues brought on by the pandemic. Sorry but you might not get your Christmas present from Santa this year. I'm so ever grateful to MBI, that all my orders were well taken care of. I picked up everything I ordered over the last 20 months with no issues! Keep in mind that with each coming month a new Coronavirus variant is being discovered - which could mean even more border restrictions!!! So act now or be subject to variant #54, virus #27 & wave #95 restrictions!!! Yikes! It would be funny if it almost weren't true ... so this is the point at were you start ... crying! *Hot tip alert* - you can use WiFi here & fill in your details on the ArrivCan App just before heading to the border! Some months ago I stupidly left a parcel on the counter and it was quickly stolen by another customer. The staff was quick to review video and reveal the crime. A huge shout-out to fellow Yelper Shonah who referred me to this terrific company. All the excellent reviews are spot on: this place is great. If, like me, you need to order stuff to the USA, this company gives you an American address for your orders (as opposed to a PO Box, which a lot of companies won't ship to), and I really like how you get an email notification every time they receive a package for you. The services here cost a nominal yearly fee and a small charge per package received. You can sign up and pay the annual fee online. I know there are other places like this in Blaine - seems to be a fairly common need, for us Canadians to have a US presence to receive packages, - and I think the prices here are at a par with all the other places I've checked out. (I even drove to another such company in the same strip mall here. These mail service companies are so commonplace here!), so the prices for services are very competitive. I like this place because of the referral from Shonah who's used this place for years, and for all the positive reviews from others. My experience mimics everyone else's: -staff is amazing. Super friendly, super helpful, go above and beyond the call of duty (the lady helping me even assisted me with my wacked phone and non-working GPS) -they have boxes here (recycled from other folks) that you can take for free, and free packaging tape to seal up boxes (they also have shipping supplies for sale, too, if you want) -they also ship out mail and packages (the lady who helped me took it upon herself to search all the various ways for me to ship out some packages and she found a lower price with UPS or FedEx - I forget which - than regular USPO. How nice of her to do that!) -they also have after-hours pick-up availability, lockers, faxing services, and other postal-related services. I highly recommend this place. Top notch. read more

There were new owners in the past few years and they retained key MBI staff, hired great new employees, and updated the interior facilities. Was charged $30 to pick up three mailed envelopes. This is despite already paying for a mailbox rental. They called all the regular sized envelopes "parcels" so it was confusing. We were never told about the extra charges so we assumed that it was included with mailbox rental as it was with the place that they got our account from (pacific mail) read more

I was in a hurry trying to find a package service in Blaine, Washington online. As I was ordering a package that would only deliver to the US. After reading some reviews, I decided to give these guys a try. I read fellow Yelpie's recommendations, so I signed up online. I had my first package delivered to my new "US address", easy. I have now been down to pick up and send packages multiple times, and I am impressed! They are on it, super friendly too! at first I wasn't aware that they actually also send out packages. I had one in my car that I was going to take to USPS, but I inquired. The woman who helped me was super friendly, she gave me a quote first. It was nearly half the price of what it would have cost to send from Canada. (I was sending a 2lb package to Aus). Saved me a trip to the post office and another lineup. Everytime I go in here, I'm greeted with a friendly "Hi, how can I help you"? Believe me, I have been to other package services over the years & this crew is so much friendlier! They offer 24-hour pick up with locker service, just add credits online. Ample free parking, good location on H Street, close to Pacific Crossing which is my preferred border crossing. For most part, I really like the service here, with one major exception: The UNBELIEVABLY bitch woman (older, heavy set), who is ALWAYS a pain in the ass, hates her life, and therefore everyone who comes in. If i t weren't for her, I'd give this place 5 stars. The owner is really cool, and is a notary as well, which is very handy if you need docs notarized. I've been using Mail Boxes International for since 2010 and I've been satisfied with the service I've received. I have never had any problems picking up my parcels although weekday afternoons and Saturdays get busy and there can be a bit of a wait. I do wish that they were open late more than once a week and were open earlier on Saturday. In September of 2012, the price of parcel receiving for items increased to $2.75 USD (from $2.50 USD). However, the annual fee of $10.00 USD is lower than some of the other parcel receiving service providers in Blaine. They do also accept credit cards for payments over $5 USD whereas some other parcel receivers don't accept credit cards at all. I haven't used any of their other services, but Mail Boxes International also offers mailbox rentals, mail forwarding, and they are an authorized shipping centre for both UPS and FedEx. Overall, I'm a happy customer. read more

I have used Mail Boxes International for more than 4 years now. I have had packages sent to them several times a month over the 4 years and have experienced no problems at all. The $10 per year plus $2.50 per package is a little steep, but they are very good at informing you when your packages arrive and keeping them secure until you pick them up, so I feel the price is commensurate with the service provided. Technically, they claim that they will start charging a fee if you haven't picked up your package within 2 weeks, but that hasn't been my experience and I have stretched it to 3 weeks. Service can be a little slow at times and the clerks' demeanors are a little less than sunny, but I have borne witness to a lot of the stupid customers that they have to interact with on a daily basis, so anything short of them punching customers in the faces can probably be justified. The entire package delivery process is very uncomplicated and laid out very clearly but some people just don't seem ( or choose?) to get it. At the end of the day, I want a safe, efficient method of receiving packages with easy access to the border and they provide it. read more

I don't think the miserable lady works there anymore cause I have been here a few times and they are always friendly. You can put alternate names on your account so me and my spouse share an account and only have to pay the annual fee once. The prices are good and they accept Canadian currency. Only downside is no debit and no credit card purchases under $5 so if you are only getting 1 shipment you need to have cash. read more

I also like that I can add a few other names to the account so my husband or sister can get my stuff while they are down there. I don't mind the yearly fee, that more than makes up for having to wonder if my package is there or not as I don't go there until I get the email from them. I've used there service a few times now, and I'm definitely impressed. They're quick to get the packages processed and ready, I usually come the same day the package shows as delivered and there's never a delay as I've seen elsewhere (1-2 days for a package to be ready). Plus there's a grocery store (Cost Cutters) and two gas stations at the same intersection for a great one stop shop to pick up your package(s), some cheaper groceries (milk/cheese/beer), and cheap gas. I'd definitely recommend them if anyone! *PS, if you're over for less than 24 hours you're allowed to bring back a 6-pack or bottle of wine, and the Cost Cutter's has a great selection for both. read more

I have been a loyal customer since 2002 and have been consistently impressed with the professionalism and efficiency with which this business is run. The other day I found i had just missed the Fedex pickup and the owner told me to run to Bellingham right away and I would catch them. He didn't have to tell me that. He lost out on his commission just to help a customer. He also told me to leave the packages I came to pick up in order to catch the truck and just be back by 6. Of course I was too late. I stopped for gas and then tried for too long to get my tablet to play some podcasts until I saw that it was 5 to 6. I hadn't realized the time at all .I was sure I would have to stay overnight nearby to get my packages the next day. Just as I was swearing a blue streak into the phone while pacing around out front of MBI, the owner appeared. He had been on his way to the grocery store, saw me and actually stopped to go back...even though I was being all crazy pants. I might not have wanted to deal with me if I were him ; ). Kylie (sp?) provided EXCELLENT customer service, which was refreshing, especially because the service experience I had to deal with in trying to get my local post office to help track a package (the tracking information showed the package as having been delivered, when it had actually been sent back to the shipper...) was abysmal. Not the best experience with the older clerk... She charged me $25 for 'storage' of the DVD that I had received there as well as a letter (which they could not find every time I went in for over 3 months). She said it's policy and that they emailed me when they received both items. I certainly did not receive the emails. I went back and checked. I had received emails from them before but not about these two particular items. And why should I be charged for storage when they couldn't find one of the things for so long?? Anyway she was rude. I've just been using this place for the past 6 months of so but have used them a lot and everytime it has been smooth sailing. When I go during the daytime hours the staff is always friendly and efficient and there isn't a long lineup. The after-hours locker pick-up is also super convenient; I just load money into my account on PayPal and pay the reasonable fee through the website. It's always gone off without a hitch. One time when I needed to return a large parcel that I got in the after-hours locker, it wouldn't fit in the mailbox outside so I just left it in the locker and emailed them the next day asking if they could please throw it in the mail, which they did without issue. I have dealt with a lot of rude front end staff in my time but the big walrus of a woman we lovingly call " Dragon Lady" really tops the cake. For the life of me I can not believe any business owner would allow an employee to treat its customers in such a despicable manner. I don't know if there is an ounce of joy within that woman. That aside they do provide a great service pretty close to the Canadian border. I will put up with Ms Sunshine for a few minutes to get my mail. Cost wise this place is not the greatest and we are starting to look around. We receive a lot of parcels in one week and at $2.75 (starting Sept. 1st, 2012) a pop it's adding up but then again convenience counts for something. I was about to do business with a competitor when my squeeze suggested we check MBI out. I was really reluctant to give them a shot after reading the various reviews from a few years back. I'm glad I went in, because they bent over backwards for a special request I had. I didn't know it, but the owner (wife) was initially helping me. She then passed me to her husband (the other owner), who is a very down-to-earth guy. The following day, the husband / owner gave me a polite heads up call. This follow-up call shows me that the owners take an active part in the day-to-day operation of their business. I don't know what happened in the past, I just know what I was given, decent service, which is hard to come by at the various Blaine shipping establishments. This review comes from someone who has had exposure with the 'other' Blaine joints. Pacific Mail & Parcel gives off the chaos vibe. 24/7 PARCEL has their dirty little secret, they run out of lockers. A few years ago, I felt Hagen's screwed me on fees for a flat screen TV. Dealing with the owners of Mail Boxes International impressed me because the various competitors always seem to have worker bees out front and the owners are out of mind, out of sight. read more

MBI is on top of things. I have been a customer for almost 10 years and I have watched them grow with the changing needs of their customers. As a business person, I don't want to worry about mail and packages, and with MBI, I can leave it all up to them to make sure my stuff gets to where it's going or arrives and available for me to pick up on my schedule. They installed a bunch of after-hours lockers and the online system makes it a breeze to organize my pickup. Ive been awaiting a package and was driving through blaine and thought i would swing by to see f it was in. I arrived before business hours. Knocked on the door hoping they could save me some time by letting me know whether or not my package was even in or not. Lady just looks at me with the death stare and mouths "were closed"! She didnt have the courtesy to even open the door to see what i wanted. So i waited for almost an hour only for her to serve other clients before me because they get there 5mins before opening and line up in front of the door. Package wasn't in and i waited for nothing! 30 seconds of her time could have saved me almost an hour! Dont expect the staff at mail boxes to step outside the box to help you!!! We're switching to another place as soon as, or before our year is up. The customer service here is grim, unfriendly, and somewhat miserly. After enrolling I emailed to find out how a family member could also receive here, whether she'd need a separate account, etc. The reply said her name would be added to my account, no problem, no fee and that it was done. However when she and I went to pick up our things we got a few displeased grunts from the women (mother and daughter?) who are usually there and we were told to always include MY name on the address. Talk about confusing while ordering by internet, where she pays, but my name is on the parcel.... So we're going to find a place that doesn't require an annual fee, like the Letter Carrier in Pt Roberts, which was fine when we've used it. read more

Great way to get packages from the US. Used to use a service just down the street but they treated you like cattle and were borderline rude. MBI on the other hand is friendly and efficient. Only wish they were open on Sundays, but I hear they have after hours or something of the sort. read more

Terrible customer service. My friend and I drove from Vancouver to pick up a package. We arrived couple of minutes after their closing time. There were still people inside, so we knocked on the window. The staff didn't even acknowledge us, not even a look in our direction, which I thought was very rude. Then a lady, who I thought was the manager, came out and told us that "people arrive late all the time". I won't ship to this place again. There are many places that provide similar services. I have been getting mail & packages at Mailboxes International for 2 years now, and have had no problem. To me the staff is friendly & polite so I a really surprized at some of the reviews about the grouchy older lady, she's never grouchy to me - but I always tip them at least a buck or two for their coffee fund and tell them to have a great day. People always seem to arrive in herds so sometimes there is a 5 - 10 minute wait but aren't grocery stores the same when it comes time to go to the till? I have to agree about the lady at the counter. She has been there a long time and just seems rude and nasty. Not sure what her problem is but I also pray that I do not get her when I get to the counter. I think a smile would crack her face. I wonder if she knows how hard it is out there to get a job and that she is not really an asset to any company with that attitude of hers. The tall skinny male kid is the best one to to get and I also like the younger girl (brown hair in her 20s). She doesn't smile much but seems straight up. read more
