Met Maike in a class a couple years back. Her energy and commitment to making sure people are enjoying themselves and getting a good workout(and doing it properly!) is palpable! Since then I have taken countless classes with her from strength, to yoga to HIIT. She even taught a yoga class for my friends and I the morning of my wedding. Thank you for making working out so much fun and being such a positive force, Maike!

I was back to exercising regularly and playing volleyball in March. It wasn't until May that I found out I had a hairline fracture and bone bruising through MRI because I was still complaining about pain. I was told by the orthopedic doctors and a podiatrist that I needed surgery for my ankle, but I ultimately didn't want to do that. I didn't like any of the PTs that were in my area and in-network. I found Dr. Jay by chance--a simple yelp search and I found out he was walking distance from me. I dm'd him, back in December, my history and asked if surgery was the only way to go, and he responded pretty quickly that he's had the same injury and was able to get back into sports without going under the knife. After talking to Dr. Jay via zoom, I was convinced that he was gonna be the one to help me regain strength and mobility in my ankle. Dr. Jay is very knowledgeable, he'll breakdown the anatomy and physiology so you know what's happening with your body, and he'll teach you the right mechanics for the exercises. He also went over types of shoes I should be wearing during different types of exercises which is important because the shoes I wore were affecting my ankle and foot mobility. Dr. Jay doesn't just treat the symptom, he treats you as a whole because everything in the end is all connected. Dr. Jay will create workout routines that are suitable for you, and will tailor it based on your needs, such as what gym you go to/equipment you have. Send videos and updates on your workouts/daily activities so you can get his feedback, and he can tweak exercises/give you tips on what you can do in those exercises to reduce pain. One thing I needed to learn was that I didn't have the same capacity for load as I did pre-injury, and that I needed to not overdo it on exercises even though, mentally, I felt like I could do more. "When strain exceeds capacity, leads to negative adaptations. When strain stays right below capacity, positive adaptations. Learn through mistakes, and learn quickly on how to find the right amount." I'm very hard on myself, especially when training declined due to illness, holidays, vacations, and or pain (due to overloading/wearing too rigid shoes). Dr. Jay stayed positive and continued to encourage me. He reminded me that we are not perfect, and it is okay to take breaks. Dr. Jay's program gave me the structure, guidance, and motivation I needed to get back to running and jumping without fear. He's helped me gain the knowledge and confidence to get back on the court. Will definitely recommend Dr. Jay to anyone I know who's dealing with chronic pain and willing to put in the work!

He has made me a believer in the power of strength training with proper nutrition. Since I started with him, my pain has improved significantly and I am hopeful that it will eventually go away. For that, I am eternally grateful.

Right from the start, Todd was extremely prompt with his communication and we were scheduled for a free assessment within a couple of days. He even set me up with a week-long pass to the gym Todd used the assessment to understand my physical state, my flexibility, movement issues, etc by having me do a couple of reps of a host of exercises. At the end of the session, we discussed what a training plan would look like. What I really liked about his training program was that he was willing to work around my constraints. I wanted to work with a trainer just once a week and he was willing to give me structure homework routines to do on my own on the other days. He also used MyFitnessPal to keep a track of diet and make suggestions. After the session, he was great about following up and answering any questions that I had. Overall, I had a great experience with Todd and I would highly recommend considering him if you're in the market for a personal trainer.

I found this gym 5 years ago (then known as Arena Ready) and I've been consistently going 3-4x/week during that whole time. The motto "just show up" rings true as that's all you need to do. Once you arrive the coaches lead you through a directed warmup (to prevent injury) and workout. I loved not having to think about anything and just doing what was programmed, plus everyday is different so it's never boring and truly full body. I can't thank these guys enough for the great gym they run, and how chill they are. They aren't super intense caricatures of CrossFit people. Coach Alex especially, who has been my coach most often, is such an incredible teacher and dude. He has a keen eye and makes sure that people are showing good form, and the gym is overall great about offering "scaling" options - basically stepping down the workout for wherever you're at. Learned a ton about form and feel much more confidence in myself around strength training. I felt and sometimes looked different after even just 1 class. I like to drink a protein shake either before or right after to minimize sore muscles. I never thought I'd become a CrossFit person - I just started going because it was 2 mins from my house - but here I am hooked! Thanks FCCF!

I am SO glad we found Strength Camp SF on Yelp. We started with their free introductory class, and honestly, that first impression sealed the deal. The coaching, the structure, the vibe, everything just felt right. From day one, it was clear this isn't a "do your own thing and hope for the best" gym. It's intentional, well programmed, and actually cares about progress. Huge shout out to the coaches I have worked with so far- Lisa, Jeremy, Patrick, Kobe. They have all been phenomenal. Super knowledgeable, patient, and great at pushing you just enough while still making sure form and safety come first. The weekday programming is thoughtfully structured around specific lifts and muscle groups (deadlifts, squats, lower body, etc.), which makes progress feel real and measurable. And Saturdays are my absolute favorite. The weekend training sessions with Lisa and Patrick are something I genuinely look forward to. I try very hard not to miss them. Challenging, fun, and such a great way to end the week feeling strong and accomplished. One of the things I love most is the community. The people who train here are supportive, encouraging, and actually cheer each other on. It's motivating in the best way. No ego, no weird gym energy, just people showing up and doing the work together. Overall, Strength Camp SF has helped us build consistency, confidence, and real strength. I am genuinely proud of how far we have come, and while I know I still have a long way to go, I feel confident that if I stay disciplined and keep showing up, I will hit my goals. This gym makes that feel possible and honestly, enjoyable.

Here are the main issues I had- -It's very cramped and can therefore get busy fast. -The cardio area in the front doesn't have enough air circulation or purification. However purification and circulation are a problem everywhere there. -Members regularly show up sneezing, coughing, and with runny noses. -The gym is unattended most of the time, and when staff are present they're glued to devices. The gym's own basic rules just go unenforced. -The equipment is regularly dirty and sweaty. The vast majority of members do not wipe off equipment after they have used it (much less before they use it.) And staff absolutely does not pick up the slack and clean off sweaty machines or provide even gentle reminders to members, in real time. Feels gross and makes it too easy to pick up colds, flu, Covid etc. -If you accidentally forget your water bottle you'll be totally out of luck! They only provide a bubbler- no cups. -There is not composting or recycling throughout the facility. Only the two cans by the entrance offer sustainable options. -Using their platform was difficult both from a cell phone and via the Safari browser. Like most other people in the Bay I'm an iPhone user so this proved to be inconvenient. -They milked me for another month when it was time to cancel. Their cancellation process is not straightforward and bought and you can be charged an entire month's membership, even if you cancel several days before the regular day your dues always deduct. It's a common feeling that if you cancel before your monthly renewal date, you should not be charged on the next renewal date. So to me it seems like their cancellation process is confusing and also is poor business practice, plain and simple. Really the only major perk here was that I could walk here. Ultimately this business might benefit from some local competition. I really don't recommend this gym and hope for Bernal's sake that they make some serious changes.

Since I don't work in the city I would not be able to meet them during those hours (11-12) This ended up causing some weird email and text argument with the founder who was so rude. I canceled my membership (considering I couldn't even use the gym I pay for) and was charged randomly 2X the expected charge. When I asked for an itemized receipt like any normal business can provide founder responded with the attached email. What a terrible way to do business. Avoid this gym.
