The waitress came back multiple times to check on us. I have read some rather mean reviews on this restaurant and I do have to say people should understand how long these servers and cooks have to work. Some of them are pulling 12 hour shifts. Be patient, it seems they are trying to fix some of the previous issues. Again I will reiterate our service was great. The ambiance was like a pub with clean tables and the restrooms were clean as well. We will be back.

I had no idea if there was meat choices (there isn't) or toppings or sides (there are sides like fries) I'm glad I asked for the menu, as I almost thought about the nachos. Which I would have not known about if I hadn't seen a menu. We did not appreciate the rudeness when she asked if we were ready to order and I replied how would we know we haven't seen a menu. Just for her to roll her eyes and come back and toss them on the table. That attitude made me not want to spend my money there and my tip absolutely reflected her poor behavior. She could have earned 20 from me alone out of our group, instead of what was left over from the change. I work in the service industry and I appreciate both good food and service and it also would have been nice if our checks were correct but I have learned to pick and chose my battles but that also helped contribute to her not super tip. To the taco loved the shell it's like fry bread and one taco is the entire basket you have been warned. Sadly it wasn't really warm my fries were not even close to warm and definitely floppy. Really the stinker of the show was the server, so don't expect much.

This afternoon, I had the pleasure of visiting the Ankeny (IA) Chili's location. This particular…read moreChili's is a favorite of mine, but tonight's trip might have been the best yet. Upon arrival, we were instantly greeted and shown to a table close to the front entrance. I was a little concerned about the table's proximity to the front door, but there were zero issues throughout our dining experience. When we sat down, my friend immediately noticed that the TVs in the restaurant were showing a Dallas Cowboys game (from the past season) on NFL Network. He wondered if we could ask that the TVs be changed to the World Cup match between England and Norway. Like magic, the TVs all changed to the soccer match before we even had a chance to ask. We waited a couple of minutes watching the soccer match before a manager noticed our server hadn't visited our table yet. She immediately apologized and took our drinks and (FREE!!!!!) chips and salsa order. The drinks and chips and salsa came promptly and the manager took our dinner orders. My same buddy who was wondering about the soccer match ordered the "3 for Me" meal, which included a bowl of the chicken enchilada soup. I jokingly asked if they still had chili on the menu, knowing full well that chili hasn't been offered for at least a couple of years now (much to my disappointment). The manager was very genuine in saying that Chili's corporate will sometimes bring items back if customers ask, so here goes. CHILI'S - BRING BACK CHILI!! It was absolutely delicious and it makes no sense that Chili's doesn't offer chili. We continued to enjoy our chips and salsa until our entree's arrived. There were five in the dining party and the orders went as follows: 3 for Me, triple dipper (TD), TD, and southwest chicken salad. My daughter and I split a TD with big mouth bites, fried mozzarella, and crispy chicken crispers (real name on the menu). When our meal was set down, my 9-year old daughter asked if she could do the "cheese pull". We have never ordered the TD before tonight's visit, but somehow, my daughter instinctively knew what a cheese pull was. I managed to capture her epic cheese pull about halfway through and It just kept going and going! My daughter ate her fried mozzarella after the cheese pull and loved it. She also enjoyed the crispy chicken crispers. She did not care for the onions on the burger, but that was my good fortune as I quickly chowed down both of the big mouth bites. Our food was hot, flavorful and served to perfection. The other members of our dining party also enjoyed their food. The "3 for Me" went down quickly until my friend decided he was too full to finish his meal. I was a tad disappointed he couldn't finish, but I believe he went to town on the chips and salsa that I "paid" for using my Chili's rewards. The other TD that was ordered was reportedly good. It included the "Nashville hot" fried mozzarella, which he said was very good. I asked this diner if he was going to finish the whole TD by himself and he laughed and said "no". He thoughtfully ordered the meal knowing he wouldn't eat the whole thing and he was going to take the second half home for his wife. He also noted that his wife enjoys Flavortown so much that she almost brought their young child to the restaurant - 45 minutes away from their home - just to eat it fresh at Chili's. Amazingly, the person who ordered the southwest chicken salad was eating at Chili's for the very first time. I know, right?! She certainly enjoyed the chips and salsa before her meal arrived, but I was curious to see what she would think of her salad. She ate about half of her meal before throwing in the towel. The dressing of the salad was too hot for her tastebuds and she said her "mouth was on fire". I didn't dare question her, but this person is known to be super picky and that is an understatement. Overall, I believe she enjoyed her first Chili's experience. I should mention that our server - Jeremiah - did a lot of heavy lifting after the manager started our dining experience. He was awesome! He was quick to refill our chips and salsa and our drinks. I had trouble deciphering how much each diner owed on their tab using the little table-top kiosk and he kindly offered to print our receipt for us. When I asked him for a chips and salsa to go, he said "I got you bro." Overall, I have always enjoyed visiting this Chili's location but tonight was our best visit yet. The food, service and atmosphere were amazing and on par with the Flavortown experience I have come to know and expect. Well done!

Almost every Bar-food type place I go to leaves me disappointed when I get burgers and this place was really good and reasonably priced. Wife got the steak melt and absolutely loved it as well. Both came out fast and fresh. Fries were very good as well. 2) Service was great, it almost looked understaffed because of how few people were running around but it definitely did not feel that way at all. Our server seemed to read our minds coming by exactly when we were ready to order or whatever else. Also friendly and personable without being overbearing at all. 3) Price was good, before tip around $50 for two people. 2 entrees, beer and soda, and a piece of cheesecake to top it off. Somehow hadn't found this place despite being only 5 min from us but we will absolutely be making this a regular dinner spot when we feel too lazy to cook! Minor complaint, the table behind the "Seat yourself" stand def needs a fix cus that thing was wobbly as heck. Might've been an annoyance if I hadn't been so busy devouring my food to notice.

The Service: We were eventually seated at a booth (the one with no working TVs), and while we were quickly greeted by Jennifer--who was our waitress for the night--we ended up waiting most of the evening for her to come back. We did get waters and drinks while waiting for our friends to arrive. Once they showed up, it took a little while to get the rest of our order in, but it all worked out in the end. They were very busy that night--between the Indiana Fever game, graduations, and a band crowd. Jennifer was hustling, along with her husband and one other waitress, trying to cover the whole place. So, while I can't (and won't) complain about the effort, they clearly needed more help to reach that 5-star level. Same goes for the bar--it was overwhelmed and absolutely needed more than one bartender to handle that crowd. Just a note for management: the team was working hard, but they were outnumbered. The Food: The kitchen was on the ball. Our appetizer of Brussels sprouts was delicious--great flavors, perfectly cooked--and they hit the table just moments before our entrees did. I had the jalapeño burger with the ridiculously long name (you'll know it when you see it), and added the $4 onion rings. The burger was fantastic--well made, full of flavor. The onion rings, while not quite worth the $4 upcharge as a side, were the crispiest onion rings I've ever had. Really good. Kim's wrap, on the other hand, was underwhelming--$14 for a tortilla shell mostly filled with lettuce and not much flavor. Our friends seemed happy with their meals and later ordered a bread pudding to share. We all had a sample, and while it was decent, it was definitely missing a sauce or something to make it pop. The Value: Our bill--1 appetizer, 2 meals, and 4 drinks--came to over $100 plus tip. (Now that I'm writing this, I kind of wish I'd looked at the receipt more closely.) Still, that seems to be the going rate for this kind of night out in the greater Des Moines area these days. Pro Tip: Try coming during happy hour to stretch your dollars a bit further.
