We had some last-minute changes in our Des Moines trip so we decided to give this a try and also because it's an Iowa-thing to check off. We tried the maid-rite sandwich, pork tenderloin sandwich, Graziano grinder combo with soda and fries, and deluxe grilled cheese. The maid-rite sandwich was a very sad-looking sandwich and the flavors were not redeeming. Even after adding the condiments, it did not change much. There is nothing deluxe about the grilled cheese. The grinder and the fries were mediocre. The best item is surprisingly the pork tenderloin. It was a huge slab of pork that was crispy and tender.

First time in a maid rite in Iowa Good food and service!! Love maid rites!! Great food!!

The counter guy (manager?) was EXTREMELY helpful. I'd highly recommend this place for his hospitality alone!

I have always wanted to try a loose meat sandwich if I made it to the state of Iowa. I found out that Maid-Rite is a popular restaurant for the loose meat sandwich. They have restaurants in Illinois and Iowa. The sandwich and the deep fried cheese curds were delicious. I will definitely make another trip when I am back in Illinois or Iowa.

We recently were in town and decided to stop by and try this Maid-Rite. We grabbed a little bit of everything: Maid-rite, tenderloin, cheese-rite and a ice cream malt, all to-go. What made our visit was the service. The gentleman working the front counter was so kind, friendly. Definitely, notable about this location! Our food was fast. The tenderloin was quite good. The only thing to note was my cheese seemed a little dry around the edges on my maid-rite and didn't really melt. Also, the meat tastes a little different depending on which location you go to. Would try this place again

Mega Rite with Cheese and Fries! The only way to go!

This is the best kept secret in Ankeny Iowa. I highly suggest that you look past the location and visit this place. It's right next to Walmart and the food is amazing. The customer service it's just as excellent. I suggest the mega cheese rite and fries! Both of them are cooked perfectly and it's an excellent place to take your family. Very family oriented not to mention a great ambience!

Chili was average. Lukewarm temperature. Hubby thought his chili was good. Clean appearance. Little pricey - $5 for a bowl of chili

I ordered the Pit Master Sandwich with a side of French onion soup (you get to choose a side with the sandwich). The sandwich was really good! The bread was buttery and soft, and the homemade croutons in the soup were clearly made from fresh bread. The French onion soup wasn't for me--it kind of tasted like acid reflux to me, so I gave it to my mom. She actually thought it was pretty good. The sandwich had perfectly balanced barbecue sauce and cheese, although I thought the barbecue sauce overpowered the cheese a bit. Next time, I'd probably order it without the cheese. The brisket was good, but I would've preferred a fattier cut because I think it would have been more flavorful. I also wasn't a fan of the Gouda since it didn't melt very well, but the other cheese on the sandwich was delicious. Overall, the food was incredible, and this place is an absolute MUST if you're in the area! I noticed they have around 78,000 DoorDash orders, and after eating here, I can definitely see why. I'll actually be coming back in a few days before I leave my vacation because there are so many other delicious items on the menu that I can't wait to try! Staff were also nice!

Worth the Wait at Jersey Mike's…read more Stopped by the Jersey Mike's on SW Vintage Parkway in Ankeny today for a quick dinner pickup. We placed our order through the app (super convenient) for a #6 Roast Beef and Provolone and a #55 Big Kahuna Chicken Cheese Steak. ## The Experience The place was hopping during the dinner rush when we arrived, which explained why our wait was a bit longer than expected. That said, I was impressed watching the staff hustle behind the counter - everyone was working efficiently and still managing to be friendly to each customer. No small feat during a lunch rush! ## The Food Our sandwiches were absolutely worth the short wait. The #6 Roast Beef and Provolone ($10.95) was made perfectly - tender roast beef with that delicious combo of provolone, red wine vinegar, and fresh veggies on their rosemary parmesan bread. The #55 Big Kahuna Chicken Cheese Steak ($10.25) was equally impressive - juicy philly chicken with white American cheese, just the right amount of jalapeño heat, and those perfectly grilled onions. I appreciated that they followed our "extra love" special instruction too! ## The Value At just over $21 before tax for two substantial sandwiches, the value is solid. These aren't your average thin cold cuts - Jersey Mike's doesn't skimp on quality or quantity. ## Overall While it wasn't the fastest pickup experience, the staff's positive attitude and the excellent sandwich quality more than made up for the slight wait. The Ankeny location seems well-managed even during the dinner rush, and I'll definitely be back (though maybe avoiding peak dinner hours if I'm in a hurry). Next time I'll remember to take pictures before devouring everything!

Also not to mention every time she is apart of building my sandwich whether it's doing the slicing or the toppings she messes it up and if I respectfully ask for it to be fixed I get even more attitude and horrible glares. The first few times I chalked it up to her just having a bad day but the fact that this has happened 6 times in a row isn't by chance. Horrible service and she clearly hates her job and she ruins the whole experience every single time and whenever I come to this location I cross my fingers she isn't working. She needs to be talked to by management because I know I'm not the only one to experience this HORRIBLE service

The monthly flavored shakes are also a nice treat. And where can one get some of the best Brussels sprouts at a chicken place? They are delish! You can get your sandwiches grilled, fried, in a wrap or in a salad. For me, all great options but the original fried is my go to- large, always perfectly cooked and juicy chicken. The service is as fantastic as the food- always friendly. And- dogs allowed! Outdoor patio seating in addition to indoor and (let me repeat what exceptional service) they find you even when you change your mind and start one place and end in the other. Drive through is a nice option and the only (good) problem for this business that started out as a food truck is that at peak times parking and pulling out can be tricky with the drive through. I've saved one of the best customer- friendly mentions for last- when you pay by card, the highest display for tip is 10%(starting at 3%). I mean- the service is always worth 20+ but I appreciate this range as opposed to so many that start at 15% or higher. Dumb me. Lol Fair warning the pin on Apple and Google maps is a little off. The restaurant is in the corner of the building nearest to NE 14th. I want to say there was a Family Cafe or something like that there before... I was greeted right away by a young lady who was updating a sign board. Seating is a horseshoe shaped bar as you enter. In a dining area off to the Left there are both low and high top tables with chairs and a few booths. I went a little unconventional for BBQ... A cheesesteak combo with fries and mac n cheese and a golden fried catfish combo with fries, fried okra, and a cornbread muffin. My order was placed to go and the wait wasn't long. I'd seen someone post a picture of their cheesesteak a while back... This is something I am unnaturally passionate about. I was stationed in Philadelphia PA for about two years. The metro has a lot of steak and cheese sandwiches, but not many true cheesesteaks. The picture I saw looked legit so this was a must try for me. As they would say in Philly these are served "wit" so if you don't want onions make sure you let them know. It did not disappoint! The chop on the flat top was traditional and not just strips of more or less stir fried beef. The roll...while not entirely traditional...does its job. Soft enough to the bite, but firm enough to hold everything together and it didn't get soggy. It fits the mold of a true cheesesteak. The catfish is fried in seasoned corn meal. Mine was a thick nice fillet. If you don't like catfish because it tastes "fishy" this is not for you. It's not tilapia or a different mild white fish. You're going to get exactly what you ordered. I loved it! But I love catfish. The only thing that would have made it better was if it was whole and bone-in. The mac n cheese was made with a fusilli style pasta. A little funny to the eye but the taste is beyond reproach. Some of the best mac n cheese I've had in a long time! The fries and fried okra were cooked perfectly. I have plenty of those left over. Hopefully they reheat up well in the air fryer! Don't make the same mistake I did by waiting so long to stop by Leachmon's!
