The ladies I went with got the hot Nashville fried mozzarella and the sweet chili thai mozzarella and the sweet chili wasn't fully cooked on the inside as there was no cheese pull. Tbh this is my favorite chilis location in the Des Moines area. Food has always been good. The service has always been friendly, and the ambiance is definitely Chili's. I got the triple dipper, which has been blowing up on my tiktok. And it definitely lived up to what I hoped for. The deep fried mozzarellas are amazing. We asked for more salsa and the waitress said her shift was over but she would get the salsa. Nada-she went home. After 10-15 minutes some guy showed up with our order but no salsa. So I ordered food here lastnight 58.00 for 3 meals I was told it would be ready in 25 mins girl at counter called and said my order has been sitting there on the counter for 15 min already. I was confused cause I just ordered it 10 min ago. I went to pick it up I asked if it was cold since ce the girl at the counter said it had been sitting for there for 15mins. She oh no it hadn't been sitting here that long but honey that's what you just told me on phone. Traveling through on my way to Minnesota. We decided to stop and have a quick bite. It wasn't very crowded but the host sat us where they had everyone gathered at 5 different tables/booths. I'll never understand why some restaurants pack everyone into the same area and by the restrooms!! We started with chips and salsa. I just wanted to make a post and let everyone know that this is the spot to propose to your girlfriend, or should I say my now fiancé! We came here for dinner on our 15th month anniversary and I just so happened to have the ring in my pocket and asked our very lovely server to help me propose to my girl. She ended up putting it in our desert for her to find, which she struggled to find it but that's okay. When she found the ring she immediately said yes and then the entire Chilis congratulated us. I am leaving a Five star review for this specific location. We had a party of 15 we needed to accommodate for a team dinner. They took a waitlist call 4 hours in advance for one. Second, our server was absolutely on his A game. Efficient, funny, organized. And the staff was as well who accompanied him in taking care of us. I mean seriously it's corn chips, cheese, whatever meat you select, some pico, some sour cream, and maybe some guacamole. I don't know what the meat was on these nachos but they were all flavorless, lifeless, and about as fun as a surprise colonoscopy. Nachos should be fun but they should also taste good and these did neither. Even the chips themselves were burnt. The ribeye. Who remembers the movie Smokey and the Bandit? There is a scene in the film where Sherriff Buford T. Justice is speaking to his son and he says... "There is no way, NO WAY, that you could come from my loins. Soon as I get home the first thing I'm gonna do is punch your mama in the mouth" Well, there is no way, NO WAY, that whatever they served Scotty was a ribeye. It didn't look like a ribeye, it was grey unlike a ribeye, and it sure as hell didn't taste like a ribeye. Ribeyes have fat on and in them. Fat equals flavor. This had almost none. Just like the meat in the nachos, it was flavorless and lifeless. I will bet my left testicle, which no doubt has much more flavor that what Chilis calls a ribeye is nothing more then pressed meat, injected pressed meat. The good here is above average, good. The chicken tortilla soup is AWESOME! The taste is addictive. Salads are fresh. The downfall that we experienced was the chicken fingers. They tasted rubbery. They were cooked through, but maybe in freezer too long? I've no idea. But rubbery was the texture and taste was overwhelmed by that rubbery texture. I used to come in all the time alone, years ago. The last time we came in, I had a coupon and the manager didn't want to take it, even though it had the Ankeny address on it. If they aren't going to accept the coupons, they probably shouldn't issue them?!?!?! She did accept it and warned me they generally don't. Again, wth?!?!?! In the past, I would get the Chili's emails from the parent company and this Ankeny store has refused to accept them. I don't know if that has changed. We ate at Chili's in Ankeny on Saturday, May 21st. Got there about 1pm as the noon rush was getting over, and were seated immediately. Our waiter arrived promptly and took our drink order, and by time he returned, we had decided what we were getting. We both ordered the "3 for Me" Chicken Fajitas, which came with an appetizer (we chose fried pickles.) The fried pickles were amazing, and when the main course arrived, I was expecting a scaled down version of the fajitas off the dinner menu, but that wasn't the case. You can judge for yourself, this was a monster meal, complete with 4 flour tortilla shells. After having the fried pickles, and knowing that were were having a cookie with ice cream as dessert (sorry - I forgot to take a pic of the cookie in it's own pan) we decided to take TWO of the tortilla shells home with enough fixings for lunch the next day. This is an awesome deal, folks. OK, now for the (men's) restroom. If you follow me or read other reviews of mine, I tend to visit the restroom and make a comment, because I think these facilities are every bit important as the waiters and food. Well, like I said, the noon rush had just gotten over, and I found a number of paper towels on the floor, as well as water slopped around the sinks. This is my first time saying this about any restaurant: horrible. Garbage servers. Zero people skills. It felt like simply ordering my food made the waitress roll her eyes. And all I did was say "Can I please get the Ribeye. Medium-well please." It wasn't busy at all, probably just how they like it. The water cups look ancient, had small particles of food on the inside of the glass and tasted like moldy food. Took a sip hoping for the best and spat it out within a split-second before my brain could even catch up to how disgusting it was. I received my Bloody Mary with no garnishing at all. The waitress simply came out and said that none of the garnishes nor salt was available (really, even the salt?) because of how late it was (9:15 PM on a Sunday). I wouldn't have minded if I was informed beforehand; I would have ordered a different drink. She told me--with all the irritation in the world in her voice, tense brows and wide-open glaring eyes--that she could bring me out a celery stick and a pickle (if you could do that, why didn't you just do it the first time?). I said that at the least, I would be happy to pay for my drink if she could do that. 1 minute later, the bartender quickly comes by (at a much quicker pace than when first seating us), very briefly and passive-aggressively plants another cup with a salted rim and a probably past-the-expiration wedge of lime on the rim onto our table, as if to say "here you f*ing go!". No celery or pickle, which is what the waitress said would be brought out. I was just amazed that they actually had the salt, despite being told it was "unavailable". I've had wrong orders given to me before, but how do you screw up a stick of celery and a slice of pickle? Atrocious customer service. It took us about 10 seconds to decide to immediately leave. I told the bartender to cancel our orders and we promptly left. I'm genuinely disgusted by their behavior and if ever see either one of them working in there again (if I EVER am desperate enough to eat or drink there EVER again), then I'll know not to waste another second in that restaurant. This is what happens when you skip or don't take seriously the employee training videos or if you just hate your job or people in general. Please, save yourselves. I've been to a Chili's one other time in my life somewhere and don't really remember my experience, so we can count this as my first Chili's experience. It was fairly busy when we ate dinner here as it always is. Everyday driving by the parking lot seems to be packed. It is much less crowded inside than it appears outside. Decor wise, it is pretty much an Applebees layout, nothing too special. The menu is also very similiar to Applebees with more focus on their southwestern dishes. Our server was very friendly and answered our questions about the menu. All the tables also had this electronic devices to look at menu items, pay the bill, or play games. Don't play games unless you want to pay a dollar! We got the Tableside guacamole, Texas cheese fries, half rack of ribs, and chicken and pork fajitas. The latter three items were part of the dinner for $20 deal (sound familiar? Applebee). The tableside guacamole was new, they make the guacamole at your table and you get chips to dip. The guacamole was very good, but not the best I've had. For the Texas cheese fries, it tasted alright, but it definitely was left sitting for some time before being brought to us as the melted cheese was more solid. This appetizer was also brought out with our entrees which was not planned correctly. The ribs and fajitas were both excellent, pretty good for the price! We were seated in the tightest spot and waited quite some time before our server came over (the hostess came by twice to check on us). We ordered and my husband did not get the correct order. The kids food was dried out. I asked for an extra plate as soon as we got our food so I could share with my three year old. We waited and saw our server coming and going... no plate. Another server came by and asked if we needed anything... yes, please, an extra plate, thanks. She, too, came and went.. still no plate. I used the tiny plate that came under my husbands soup bowl to avoid waiting any longer. (My husband opted to just eat the food he did have instead of making a big deal out of anything...) Both servers came by at least 2x each (almost obnoxiously too much) to ask if everything was okay. Note: neither of them ever brought or offered said plate. We asked for our bill. Server asked "cash or card?" And we answered cash. He proceeded to pull up our bill on the tiny electronic tablet at our table (which, if you have kids, is an instant tantrum-inducing device. I'd say if people want to use this method, it should be an option, but not placed at the ends of every table. My kids got distracted by them just heading to the bathroom as there is one at the end of every table and they have games etc on then...just my opinion, but I could do without them...end rant.)
