This afternoon, I had the pleasure of visiting the Ankeny (IA) Chili's location. This particular Chili's is a favorite of mine, but tonight's trip might have been the best yet. Upon arrival, we were instantly greeted and shown to a table close to the front entrance. I was a little concerned about the table's proximity to the front door, but there were zero issues throughout our dining experience. When we sat down, my friend immediately noticed that the TVs in the restaurant were showing a Dallas Cowboys game (from the past season) on NFL Network. He wondered if we could ask that the TVs be changed to the World Cup match between England and Norway. Like magic, the TVs all changed to the soccer match before we even had a chance to ask. We waited a couple of minutes watching the soccer match before a manager noticed our server hadn't visited our table yet. She immediately apologized and took our drinks and (FREE!!!!!) chips and salsa order. The drinks and chips and salsa came promptly and the manager took our dinner orders. My same buddy who was wondering about the soccer match ordered the "3 for Me" meal, which included a bowl of the chicken enchilada soup. I jokingly asked if they still had chili on the menu, knowing full well that chili hasn't been offered for at least a couple of years now (much to my disappointment). The manager was very genuine in saying that Chili's corporate will sometimes bring items back if customers ask, so here goes. CHILI'S - BRING BACK CHILI!! It was absolutely delicious and it makes no sense that Chili's doesn't offer chili. We continued to enjoy our chips and salsa until our entree's arrived. There were five in the dining party and the orders went as follows: 3 for Me, triple dipper (TD), TD, and southwest chicken salad. My daughter and I split a TD with big mouth bites, fried mozzarella, and crispy chicken crispers (real name on the menu). When our meal was set down, my 9-year old daughter asked if she could do the "cheese pull". We have never ordered the TD before tonight's visit, but somehow, my daughter instinctively knew what a cheese pull was. I managed to capture her epic cheese pull about halfway through and It just kept going and going! My daughter ate her fried mozzarella after the cheese pull and loved it. She also enjoyed the crispy chicken crispers. She did not care for the onions on the burger, but that was my good fortune as I quickly chowed down both of the big mouth bites. Our food was hot, flavorful and served to perfection. The other members of our dining party also enjoyed their food. The "3 for Me" went down quickly until my friend decided he was too full to finish his meal. I was a tad disappointed he couldn't finish, but I believe he went to town on the chips and salsa that I "paid" for using my Chili's rewards. The other TD that was ordered was reportedly good. It included the "Nashville hot" fried mozzarella, which he said was very good. I asked this diner if he was going to finish the whole TD by himself and he laughed and said "no". He thoughtfully ordered the meal knowing he wouldn't eat the whole thing and he was going to take the second half home for his wife. He also noted that his wife enjoys Flavortown so much that she almost brought their young child to the restaurant - 45 minutes away from their home - just to eat it fresh at Chili's. Amazingly, the person who ordered the southwest chicken salad was eating at Chili's for the very first time. I know, right?! She certainly enjoyed the chips and salsa before her meal arrived, but I was curious to see what she would think of her salad. She ate about half of her meal before throwing in the towel. The dressing of the salad was too hot for her tastebuds and she said her "mouth was on fire". I didn't dare question her, but this person is known to be super picky and that is an understatement. Overall, I believe she enjoyed her first Chili's experience. I should mention that our server - Jeremiah - did a lot of heavy lifting after the manager started our dining experience. He was awesome! He was quick to refill our chips and salsa and our drinks. I had trouble deciphering how much each diner owed on their tab using the little table-top kiosk and he kindly offered to print our receipt for us. When I asked him for a chips and salsa to go, he said "I got you bro." Overall, I have always enjoyed visiting this Chili's location but tonight was our best visit yet. Chilis is a top notch place for cheap but delicious mixed drinks for girls night. You can also score meals you can split if you're not hungry or if you're like me you can devour your triple dipper almost all by yourself! Southwest eggrolls are a must try here and the fried mozzarella is a classic. The ladies I went with got the hot Nashville fried mozzarella and the sweet chili thai mozzarella and the sweet chili wasn't fully cooked on the inside as there was no cheese pull. Everything else was absolutely delicious. Our waitress was attentive and nice. She was constantly checking on us and making sure we were topped off! Tbh this is my favorite chilis location in the Des Moines area. Food has always been good. The service has always been friendly, and the ambiance is definitely Chili's. I got the triple dipper, which has been blowing up on my tiktok. And it definitely lived up to what I hoped for. The deep fried mozzarellas are amazing. Been a long time since my wife and I have been to Chili's. Since we always liked it we decided to try the Ankeny site . Food was an 8 on 1-10 scale. Service was a 1 on the same scale. We asked for more salsa and the waitress said her shift was over but she would get the salsa. Nada-she went home. After 10-15 minutes some guy showed up with our order but no salsa. Finally chased a live body down and got salsa. Waited 15 minutes for a bill, got up and asked threepeople for a bill. Five more minutes and a guy we hadn't seen before brought the bill. So I ordered food here lastnight 58.00 for 3 meals I was told it would be ready in 25 mins girl at counter called and said my order has been sitting there on the counter for 15 min already. I was confused cause I just ordered it 10 min ago. I went to pick it up I asked if it was cold since ce the girl at the counter said it had been sitting for there for 15mins. She oh no it hadn't been sitting here that long but honey that's what you just told me on phone. I don't live far but by time I got it home ice cold fries 3 ice cold sandwiches I have never had this problem before at chili's ,But whoever the manager the night of Aug 14th 2025 was rude . Wouldn't refund it or credit.. Don't tell people the food will be done in 25mins and call in 10mins saying it's been sitting there for 15 min already. We will never eat here again . Traveling through on my way to Minnesota. We decided to stop and have a quick bite. It wasn't very crowded but the host sat us where they had everyone gathered at 5 different tables/booths. I'll never understand why some restaurants pack everyone into the same area and by the restrooms!! We started with chips and salsa. I decided to go to the restroom and about 3 booths down the entire area smelled like raw sewage. I could not believe all those people were eating with that smell. I just wanted to make a post and let everyone know that this is the spot to propose to your girlfriend, or should I say my now fiancé! We came here for dinner on our 15th month anniversary and I just so happened to have the ring in my pocket and asked our very lovely server to help me propose to my girl. She ended up putting it in our desert for her to find, which she struggled to find it but that's okay. When she found the ring she immediately said yes and then the entire Chilis congratulated us. (Not good for the middle of a pandemic by the way these people are disregarding your health all together) We waited forever to be seated and there was no one there, we went on a Sunday evening. I'm surprised that I have yet been disciplined by the foodie gods for putting my highly evolved palate at such risk. Even though I am a professional that does not make it ok to put myself at undo risk. Men and women far stronger then me have been taken out by lesser things then Chilis. This place is god awful. Nova ordered some burger I don't know what the hell it's called and she actually said that it was OK. First off the nachos. How do you screw up nachos? I mean seriously it's corn chips, cheese, whatever meat you select, some pico, some sour cream, and maybe some guacamole. I don't know what the meat was on these nachos but they were all flavorless, lifeless, and about as fun as a surprise colonoscopy. Nachos should be fun but they should also taste good and these did neither. Even the chips themselves were burnt. The ribeye. Who remembers the movie Smokey and the Bandit? There is a scene in the film where Sherriff Buford T. Justice is speaking to his son and he says... "There is no way, NO WAY, that you could come from my loins. Soon as I get home the first thing I'm gonna do is punch your mama in the mouth" Well, there is no way, NO WAY, that whatever they served Scotty was a ribeye. It didn't look like a ribeye, it was grey unlike a ribeye, and it sure as hell didn't taste like a ribeye. Ribeyes have fat on and in them. Fat equals flavor. This had almost none. Just like the meat in the nachos, it was flavorless and lifeless. I will bet my left testicle, which no doubt has much more flavor that what Chilis calls a ribeye is nothing more then pressed meat, injected pressed meat. I am leaving a Five star review for this specific location. We had a party of 15 we needed to accommodate for a team dinner. They took a waitlist call 4 hours in advance for one. Second, our server was absolutely on his A game. Efficient, funny, organized. And the staff was as well who accompanied him in taking care of us. The good here is above average, good. The chicken tortilla soup is AWESOME! The taste is addictive. Salads are fresh. The downfall that we experienced was the chicken fingers. They tasted rubbery. They were cooked through, but maybe in freezer too long? I've no idea. But rubbery was the texture and taste was overwhelmed by that rubbery texture. I used to come in all the time alone, years ago. The last time we came in, I had a coupon and the manager didn't want to take it, even though it had the Ankeny address on it. If they aren't going to accept the coupons, they probably shouldn't issue them?!?!?! She did accept it and warned me they generally don't. Again, wth?!?!?! In the past, I would get the Chili's emails from the parent company and this Ankeny store has refused to accept them. I don't know if that has changed. We ate at Chili's in Ankeny on Saturday, May 21st. Got there about 1pm as the noon rush was getting over, and were seated immediately. Our waiter arrived promptly and took our drink order, and by time he returned, we had decided what we were getting. We both ordered the "3 for Me" Chicken Fajitas, which came with an appetizer (we chose fried pickles.) The fried pickles were amazing, and when the main course arrived, I was expecting a scaled down version of the fajitas off the dinner menu, but that wasn't the case. You can judge for yourself, this was a monster meal, complete with 4 flour tortilla shells. After having the fried pickles, and knowing that were were having a cookie with ice cream as dessert (sorry - I forgot to take a pic of the cookie in it's own pan) we decided to take TWO of the tortilla shells home with enough fixings for lunch the next day. This is an awesome deal, folks. OK, now for the (men's) restroom. If you follow me or read other reviews of mine, I tend to visit the restroom and make a comment, because I think these facilities are every bit important as the waiters and food. Well, like I said, the noon rush had just gotten over, and I found a number of paper towels on the floor, as well as water slopped around the sinks. I would say solid 3.5 stars. Service was slow at first, but improved during the late dinner. Server acknowledged he had several tables and apologized. Ordered the chips and guac -- crispy chips and okay guac. Select 3 items to make an appetizer -- for the price it was a very small portion compared to other chain restaurants pick 3 appetizers. I've been to a Chili's one other time in my life somewhere and don't really remember my experience, so we can count this as my first Chili's experience. It was fairly busy when we ate dinner here as it always is. Everyday driving by the parking lot seems to be packed. It is much less crowded inside than it appears outside. Decor wise, it is pretty much an Applebees layout, nothing too special. The menu is also very similiar to Applebees with more focus on their southwestern dishes. Our server was very friendly and answered our questions about the menu. All the tables also had this electronic devices to look at menu items, pay the bill, or play games. Don't play games unless you want to pay a dollar! We got the Tableside guacamole, Texas cheese fries, half rack of ribs, and chicken and pork fajitas. The latter three items were part of the dinner for $20 deal (sound familiar? Applebee). The tableside guacamole was new, they make the guacamole at your table and you get chips to dip. The guacamole was very good, but not the best I've had. For the Texas cheese fries, it tasted alright, but it definitely was left sitting for some time before being brought to us as the melted cheese was more solid. This appetizer was also brought out with our entrees which was not planned correctly. The ribs and fajitas were both excellent, pretty good for the price! We also got a watermelon lemonade which was refreshing! I would return again, great place! read more
