Service was great!!! Our server was very attentive & we arrived on a Sunday, and it wasn't madly packed so we were sat right away. The interior is nice & well lit & the music was at a perfect volume. Food was delicious, I think app sizes were a little small for the pricing, however everything tasted great & was very filling. Loved the Brussel sprouts & their fries are DELISH. Will come again.

We came here to see one of my co-workers off to a new adventure. We arrived and some had ordered appetizers and a waiter was going around for drinks. It took far too long to get our drinks and we had wanted to order food but the waiter did not come back after delivering our drinks. We had to flag him down about an hour later to ask for our check. We headed somewhere else for food.

Not the best customer service no sense of urgency the staff .. been to this restaurant a few times and the staff do a poor job of greeting

A coworker had a small party here. We showed up at 5 and it was fairly busy. Orders drinks along with several of the group and were served. Waiter came back once in the 1.5 hours we were there. We were hungry and going to order food. But with an empty glass and empty belly we tired of waiting for service. Got our check and left.

Yummy Burgers and Turkey Club. The fries are unique and delicious! Service was prompt even with a packed house. Music a bit loud for me;) Highly reccomend!

Being a Navy veteran the branding caught my attention when I heard about Anchors Away when it first opened back in April. We were greeted right away when we walked in and told to take a seat anywhere. We had a party of four. Two of our party had been here before and could probably be considered regulars. Not much has changed as far as the physical layout from when it was Wheelhouse. I think a wall or two had been painted, new exterior signage, and some nautical decor items have been added. Same L shaped bar and bar stools. Low top tables and chairs and a couple booths are available for indoor seating. Lot of TVs if you want to sit back and catch a game. There is a nice little patio along the East side of the building and they have a large adjacent parking lot. Caitlyn (might be misspelled) was our server. She came over and introduced herself right away. Took our drink orders and presented us with our menus. Standard table service. Now the menu... That has completely changed! A large selection of appetizers (including fried chicken gizzards), burger and sandwich baskets, and other entrees including pasta, steak, pork chops, salmon, and shrimp. They also offer salads, flatbreads, chili and other soups, and a kids menu. Everything was reasonably priced. We ordered the following: 1x First catch fried shrimp with a side salad with ranch 1x Maritime mushroom and Swiss burger and a side salad with blue cheese 1x 1st mates choice flatbread. Added onions and peppers. 1x An order of tater tots 1x tall white Russian 1x tall cranberry and vodka on the rocks 4x Green tea shots 2x fountain drinks (Pepsi products) The drinks were all good. The food I had was on point too. I normally lean to a medium burger..., but I understand there are health code limitations and most of the time a burger out is served done. I really enjoyed my salad alongside the burger! Their side salads are definitely elevated over what you get at other places with an order. I'd probably explore some of the other different menu items next time... I wish I'd grabbed a a piece of the flatbread... Lol It looked really good! I heard really good things about their wings, the breaded tenderloin, and Philly too. Caitlyn did an amazing job! A couple of the other staff members came over to check on us during our meal, introduced themselve, and visited for a bit. Everyone was very friendly and personable! Overall... An enjoyable first vist to Anchors Away! I'd definitely return for the drinks and the service alone! https://anchorsenterprise3.com/

This month, they have a very tasty beer from Boulevard called Easy Orange for only $4/pint. You're probably looking at $2-$3 more/pint at other places around Ankeny. Small parking lot around what appears to be a house, but it's so much more. It's a dive bar. Multiple TVs had a golf tournament on but that didn't keep the conversations from being lively. Even we were greeted with smiles from the bartender. We bellied right up and made friends. She was so fun to talk to even while being worked hard with the busy crowd. We did discover that the name was changed to Careny Tap about 5 years ago, but there are still hits of the old name, and Google also had an old name on the map. We started a tab and they took a card or cash. We had a couple drinks and I loved watching the bartender work. My husband was very pleased with the beer options available. They had some beers that not a lot of places carry and I think he was so excited to find some unique ones she had to offer. We did not eat anything, but really like this place and its been here forever. I recommend.

There was a small but steady crowd throughout the night and we had top- notch service from our server- knowledgeable about the menu, attentive in the 'just right way' - carefully observing drinks and not interrupting date night more than necessary. A variety of local And other craft beers were featured although surprisingly not any from Firetrucker next door! The holiday decor was still up but even without it has a warm feel- love the various table sizes and heights and the long bar with a pretty decent offering for cocktails. While there, the bartender was experimenting with drinks and having fun. After recommendations I ordered the French dip which was phenomenal! Homemade bread, warm, generous meat and peppers and grilled onions, flavorful dip . I will say if I ordered again I would ask to have the sauce left off as I am not a fan of horseradish sauce. Still, it was tasty! Side salad as option was super fresh with mixed greens and the house creamy Italian was bursting with herby flavor. my husband had the tenderloin and while delicious- it was 'bougie' and not the traditional Midwest. It was generous and interesting as a dinner option. Would certainly return as the patio is inviting (just not in January)!'

I had no idea if there was meat choices (there isn't) or toppings or sides (there are sides like fries) I'm glad I asked for the menu, as I almost thought about the nachos. Which I would have not known about if I hadn't seen a menu. We did not appreciate the rudeness when she asked if we were ready to order and I replied how would we know we haven't seen a menu. Just for her to roll her eyes and come back and toss them on the table. That attitude made me not want to spend my money there and my tip absolutely reflected her poor behavior. She could have earned 20 from me alone out of our group, instead of what was left over from the change. I work in the service industry and I appreciate both good food and service and it also would have been nice if our checks were correct but I have learned to pick and chose my battles but that also helped contribute to her not super tip. To the taco loved the shell it's like fry bread and one taco is the entire basket you have been warned. Sadly it wasn't really warm my fries were not even close to warm and definitely floppy. Really the stinker of the show was the server, so don't expect much.
