We got here early to meet friends and grab a good seat for the live band. Sadly, the band ended up sequestered in a closet-sized space on the main level since the wind made the rooftop off-limits. Bummer! The Service: We were eventually seated at a booth (the one with no working TVs), and while we were quickly greeted by Jennifer--who was our waitress for the night--we ended up waiting most of the evening for her to come back. We did get waters and drinks while waiting for our friends to arrive. Once they showed up, it took a little while to get the rest of our order in, but it all worked out in the end. They were very busy that night--between the Indiana Fever game, graduations, and a band crowd. Jennifer was hustling, along with her husband and one other waitress, trying to cover the whole place. So, while I can't (and won't) complain about the effort, they clearly needed more help to reach that 5-star level. Same goes for the bar--it was overwhelmed and absolutely needed more than one bartender to handle that crowd. Just a note for management: the team was working hard, but they were outnumbered. The Food: The kitchen was on the ball. Our appetizer of Brussels sprouts was delicious--great flavors, perfectly cooked--and they hit the table just moments before our entrees did. I had the jalapeño burger with the ridiculously long name (you'll know it when you see it), and added the $4 onion rings. The burger was fantastic--well made, full of flavor. The onion rings, while not quite worth the $4 upcharge as a side, were the crispiest onion rings I've ever had. Really good. Kim's wrap, on the other hand, was underwhelming--$14 for a tortilla shell mostly filled with lettuce and not much flavor. Our friends seemed happy with their meals and later ordered a bread pudding to share. We all had a sample, and while it was decent, it was definitely missing a sauce or something to make it pop. The Value: Our bill--1 appetizer, 2 meals, and 4 drinks--came to over $100 plus tip. (Now that I'm writing this, I kind of wish I'd looked at the receipt more closely.) Still, that seems to be the going rate for this kind of night out in the greater Des Moines area these days. Pro Tip: Try coming during happy hour to stretch your dollars a bit further. read more

Boyfriend and I both ordered burgers and they were both good. Mine could have used more sauce, but the place was busy I never got the chance to ask for more before I was finished eating. We tried both the signature fries and the double batter fries. The double batter fries were my favorite, but both options are good. Service was good, but sometimes a little slow. We sat at the bar and they only had one bartender on a Friday night. It didn't bother us much since we were just hanging out watching football, but could be bothersome if you are in a in a rush. This is a great sports bar in Ankeny. The vibe during GameDay is great. They have great specials during games, too! I appreciate they have an adequate amount of staff working and they all seem relatively happy to be there. The space is large with high tops and low top tables and plenty of booths with tvs in them. I had essentially a breakfast burger: donut bun, American cheese, bacon, fried eggs, smashed tots and a set of double smash patties. It was supposed to come with syrup, but i did not receive it. It was perfect without so i didnt mention it. Surprisingly, the donut was my least favorite part. It just doesnt hold up to everything on the burger. I love their signature fries. My husband got their jalapeño burger. He enjoyed that it came with fresh jalapeños and not canned. He opted for the double battered fries and enjoyed them a lot. Came in and it seemed like no one actually wanted to greet us. Finally when we were greeted the people seemed confused about where to seat us. But they figured it out and gave us two of the ugliest, worn, ripped up menus you could imagine. We found out that the new ownership had only been there for four months and the menus looked like they had been worn out even longer. The staff was sitting together and loudly complaining about number of tables, lack of tips, and their gossip nonsense. At one point someone who I am assuming a cook came out and talked to the group of FOH staff at the table and he was so gross looking with no apron and all the grease and drips all over his shirt. He also wore his pants extremely low- like it was strange. And he was huge. I mean, it was for real just gross. All the stains and grease and drips- not what you want to see when you're eating. At least wear an apron. The place was equipped with TVs on both sides of any given booth which was awesome for watching the game but it didn't have any speakers- I wish it did. But nothing was amazingly clean or nice looking. It just looked like no one really cared. One of our beers was served in a dirty glass and right after our food come out a different serve brought us "fresh fries." Nice, but slightly alarming. Our server was nice. So we clearly got the best one out of the bunch. She is the reason she gets even 1 star. We will prolly never come here again. read more

Food was great! Started with the corn ribs which were interesting and good but wouldn't necessarily get those again. Got the pretzel rods and they were soooo good. And i rarely think restaurant pretzels are good. Had the Surf n Turf pasta and their steak dinner. Both were way better than expected. Burgers looked great from what i could see. We were there on a trivia night which wasn't ideal for us with the extra noise... but it is cool that they do that. People seemed to be having fun. Only negative was that they seemed to be pretty severely short staffed. We weren't greeted for a little while and our waiter was covering quite a few tables so things moved a bit slow. But the waiter was very friendly and helpful and was working hard all night so we didn't mind the slow-ish service. Would of been 5 stars with better staffing.... Maybe 3 stars if our waiter wasn't fantastic. Overall a pleasant night with great food! read more

Imagine this... it's your birthday and you're in your mid-20's. You're simply looking for a place to sit back, have some beers, and enjoy your bros. Unfortunately, this came to a very abrupt stop for me. I had had 2 drinks, then went to the bar to order another one. To my surprise, a completely random, irrelevant worker was standing there telling me that I was cut off. Very confused, I asked why and where I was being "too drunk" at. She proceeded to say "you don't need to be so aggressive", when I simply asked in a calm, respectfu, way. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend the Oxford. This place though??? Take your grandmother here for her bday, surely they won't kick you out for unnecessary stuff. But who knows, when they have these emotional bartenders on a power trip. It's really hard for me to rate this place 2 stars. Our location data shows we were on this property from 5:49pm to 6:17pm. I will give them a couple minutes because we have a 3 year old. We were sat and greeted fairly quickly. We received our waters within 2 minutes of ordering them....... Annnd that's it. No one ever came back to get our order or check on us. The place wasn't super busy. We have a 3 year old so decided if no one wanted to take our order by 6:15 that we were leaving. We never saw our server after she dropped the waters off. My husband let the bartender know we were taking off because no one came over again to get our order. As a former server myself, the decision to walk out doesn't come lightly. I've never walked out of a restaurant, ever. Until today. I'll give it two stars because we didn't have the chance to even try the food. First and last time we will be here. read more

Another review criticized the tenderloin sandwich. I had to check it out for myself. She was right. It was not very good. For the price it should have been a slice of pounded pork tenderloin not deep fried processed meat. To be fair the menu never referred to the sandwich as a pork tenderloin. I don't recommend the WOF tenderloin. Other than that, I'll be back to try another choice on the menu. read more

We went there on Friday, June 30th during their soft opening. I was willing to give them grace as it was their first night open. Didn't have to--service and food were excellent. A group of six of us were seated immediately at a booth. Our server came almost immediately to take drink orders. She was super friendly and attentive the entire night. We ordered the dip trio as an appetizer. The dips were amazing--jalapeno popper dip, buffalo dip and a french onion dip. SO good. My only complaint was that they were served with homemade potato chips. Dips this good should come with tortilla chips. Save the potato chips as a side to a sandwich. Two people in our party ordered the burgers with bacon jam. They loved them. Another order the steak bruschetta--so original and delicious. One ordered a club sandwich and she thought it was really good. Most of us had the flat fries as a side to our sandwiches. These are excellent and we used them (instead of potato chips) to dip in the dips. I ordered the pork tenderloin. It was the disappointment of all the things we ordered. I am in the pork industry and have had some of the best tenderloins around, so I'm pretty picky. It was a little on the skinny side and not as flavorful as I would have liked. Again, I'm picky. I'm so happy this restaurant is here and I hope they do a great business. We can't wait to go during football season, there are TV's everywhere to watch your favorite game. i went there Dec. 15 2023 around noon with my brother who is handicapped. when we walked in all the customers looked at us and said nothing their was a girl behind the bar so we stood waiting to be seated and nothing. we waited as this one girl made drinks still never looking at us or speaking to us, then she took menus to a table, then took orders at 2 tables then went back and started making drinks again. we stood there for 15 minutes and customers would look at us and they would not say anything either. what a joke, only one waitress who can't even look at you and say something like take a seat or be right there and then rude customers that wouldn't even say it's a long wait or only one girl here. this place is a complete joke won't ever try it again. good luck with service if you go there. we were never spoken to one time in 15 minutes from anyone in this place Dianne Wales read more

The food is awesome. My husband and I took our daughters there and all of us thought it was great. This is the second time for my husband and me and we have never been dissatisfied. The burgers are great. My husband really likes the club sandwich. Atmosphere is fun. We intend to go this summer when there will be a band.
