    Their delicious Wednesday special, Meatloaf!
    Daniel E.

An outstanding dining experience without huge expense, Tribute is a great addition to the Ankeny eating scene. Absolutely great customer service throughout! Thoroughly enjoyed my Wednesday night Meatloaf Special, which was highly recommended by two friends and our server. Oh my, outstanding! Good-sized portion with tasty gravy, garlic potatoes, and vegetables. Delicious, definitely returning for it again! Booths, tables, and also a nice bar. Please type of space for romance, catching up, business, or just relaxing with friends and family. Parking not an issue in The District. Casual attire. The place oozes with kindness.

Checked this out but was pretty disappointing. It's nice inside, clean and spacious. Service was the best part of the meal. We tried the seared tuna salad, lobster bisque, burrata, Mac n cheese, fries, and cocktails. The greens of the salad was so so but the seared tuna was grey on the edges, tasted bad, and didn't eat any of it but the bite to try it sadly. The lobster bisque was brown like a thick gravy and also almost tasted that way. We barely found any lobster or the taste. Burrata and the fries were the best part of the meal as the Mac n cheese and cocktails also fell short. Mac and cheese wasn't flavorful and extra thick and heavy while the cocktails weren't well balanced and just plain didn't taste good or high quality. Sadly I wouldn't recommend or come back.

Not sure...but he liked it. I think this is the paloma

Welcome to Ankeny's Newest Gem: A Tribute to Fine Dining! We are the lucky ones! I was invited by a friend to the soft opening of Tribute Eatery and Bar, located in the former 30hop space in the District at Prairie Trail in Ankeny. It's a perfect corner spot with both indoor and outdoor seating. You enter to an inviting reception area that is nicely appointed with classy lighting and clean, contemporary decor. The owners (who also own 30hop) have completely revamped the place with a fresh and clean look, transforming the interior from its previous iteration as 30hop. We were quickly greeted and seated at our requested high-top for four. Upon seating, we were immediately recognized by Samara, the general manager. She has a cool and important-sounding title, but she was very courteous and welcoming. She knew our friend Brian, who had invited us along. This was a nice personal touch and you could tell how excited she was to be opening in this new location! Soon after, our server, Kylie (I hope I remember her name correctly), came by and gave us the scoop on the menus. We all ordered a first round of drinks and a couple of appetizers to share. The drinks we tried throughout the evening included the Bonded Manhattan (Excellent), Violette Squeeze (Pretty and also excellent), Paloma Rosa, Prickly Pear Margarita (tasty) , and the Strawberry Basil Mule (We got 2 of these, delicious) . They were all very well crafted and I would order any one or two of them again! For appetizers, we shared the amazing Deviled Eggs, which were not only fun to look at, they were perfectly creamy, with a nice touch of prosciutto. The General Tso's Broccoli, while not overly impressive to look at, was packed with delicious flavor. For dinner, we ordered Sam's Rigatoni, Seared Scallops, Tribute Roasted Chicken, and the Steak Frites. The presentation of each dish was beautiful, and the execution was flawless. I was lucky enough to order the scallops, and they were fresh, clean, and melted in my mouth, just as I'd hoped. The corn purée was a perfect partner. I did not share! However, I did get to try the roasted chicken and the steak, and everyone at the table was extremely happy with the quality and taste of their dish. So was I! We didn't have any dessert, but the menu items looked amazing, as did their intriguing daily specials. We look forward to returning soon to try more of the menu.

I hope more people come out and try this restaurant. Its only been oped for a month, but there were only 3 people dining in around happy hour. They have a great meun but I only stopped in for light bites and a drink, I did the happy hour, picklery, pear Margarita which was fantastic. devil eggs, so good they melted in your mouth, and Bouji Baby BRG & Fries so good hit the spot. Service was fantastic I can't wait to come back and try more.

Service sub par at best,…read more STOP assuming everyone that walks in the door is a lifer and knows that just because the locals know it's Taco Tuesday that it means no point in the menu, except it doesn't. I had no idea if there was meat choices (there isn't) or toppings or sides (there are sides like fries) I'm glad I asked for the menu, as I almost thought about the nachos. Which I would have not known about if I hadn't seen a menu. We did not appreciate the rudeness when she asked if we were ready to order and I replied how would we know we haven't seen a menu. Just for her to roll her eyes and come back and toss them on the table. That attitude made me not want to spend my money there and my tip absolutely reflected her poor behavior. She could have earned 20 from me alone out of our group, instead of what was left over from the change. I work in the service industry and I appreciate both good food and service and it also would have been nice if our checks were correct but I have learned to pick and chose my battles but that also helped contribute to her not super tip. To the taco loved the shell it's like fry bread and one taco is the entire basket you have been warned. Sadly it wasn't really warm my fries were not even close to warm and definitely floppy. Really the stinker of the show was the server, so don't expect much.

There was a small but steady crowd throughout the night and we had top- notch service from our server- knowledgeable about the menu, attentive in the 'just right way' - carefully observing drinks and not interrupting date night more than necessary. A variety of local And other craft beers were featured although surprisingly not any from Firetrucker next door! The holiday decor was still up but even without it has a warm feel- love the various table sizes and heights and the long bar with a pretty decent offering for cocktails. While there, the bartender was experimenting with drinks and having fun. After recommendations I ordered the French dip which was phenomenal! Homemade bread, warm, generous meat and peppers and grilled onions, flavorful dip . I will say if I ordered again I would ask to have the sauce left off as I am not a fan of horseradish sauce. Still, it was tasty! Side salad as option was super fresh with mixed greens and the house creamy Italian was bursting with herby flavor. my husband had the tenderloin and while delicious- it was 'bougie' and not the traditional Midwest. It was generous and interesting as a dinner option. Would certainly return as the patio is inviting (just not in January)!'

Being a Navy veteran the branding caught my attention when I heard about Anchors Away when it first opened back in April. We were greeted right away when we walked in and told to take a seat anywhere. We had a party of four. Two of our party had been here before and could probably be considered regulars. Not much has changed as far as the physical layout from when it was Wheelhouse. I think a wall or two had been painted, new exterior signage, and some nautical decor items have been added. Same L shaped bar and bar stools. Low top tables and chairs and a couple booths are available for indoor seating. Lot of TVs if you want to sit back and catch a game. There is a nice little patio along the East side of the building and they have a large adjacent parking lot. Caitlyn (might be misspelled) was our server. She came over and introduced herself right away. Took our drink orders and presented us with our menus. Standard table service. Now the menu... That has completely changed! A large selection of appetizers (including fried chicken gizzards), burger and sandwich baskets, and other entrees including pasta, steak, pork chops, salmon, and shrimp. They also offer salads, flatbreads, chili and other soups, and a kids menu. Everything was reasonably priced. We ordered the following: 1x First catch fried shrimp with a side salad with ranch 1x Maritime mushroom and Swiss burger and a side salad with blue cheese 1x 1st mates choice flatbread. Added onions and peppers. 1x An order of tater tots 1x tall white Russian 1x tall cranberry and vodka on the rocks 4x Green tea shots 2x fountain drinks (Pepsi products) The drinks were all good. The food I had was on point too. I normally lean to a medium burger..., but I understand there are health code limitations and most of the time a burger out is served done. I really enjoyed my salad alongside the burger! Their side salads are definitely elevated over what you get at other places with an order. I'd probably explore some of the other different menu items next time... I wish I'd grabbed a a piece of the flatbread... Lol It looked really good! I heard really good things about their wings, the breaded tenderloin, and Philly too. Caitlyn did an amazing job! A couple of the other staff members came over to check on us during our meal, introduced themselve, and visited for a bit. Everyone was very friendly and personable! Overall... An enjoyable first vist to Anchors Away! I'd definitely return for the drinks and the service alone! https://anchorsenterprise3.com/

Mullets in Uptown Ankeny - Brunch Review…read more Well, we finally made it here for a meal! Brunch it was, and I am glad we did! Mullets in Uptown Ankeny is a relatively new business in the uptown area. They are right off of the High Trestle Trail and provide plenty of parking for cars and bikes. They have a very nice main bar on the first floor and ample comfortable seating at the bar and at tables. But they also have a full bar and expansive rooftop dining area. And on a day like the one we had, it was picture perfect! You can get to the roof by stairs or elevator! Big bonus. The rooftop has nice views of the downtown area, and plenty of seating in or out of the sun. We were seated quickly upon arrival and greeted by our waitress within minutes with ice waters. We quickly ordered Bloody Marys, which are a house recipe ($9). They are plain but flavorful. I like mine spicy, so I asked for Tabasco - the waitress had to go on an excursion but didn't give up until she got it for me! (Thank you!) We finally found the breakfast menu (not pictured), which is a ridiculously difficult thing to navigate, because my desire and my inclination was to just order one of everything! (I guess we will have to keep coming back). We finally narrowed it down to the Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes and the Eggs Benedict Flight. We were not disappointed. The Pancakes are among the best I have ever had! While the Eggs Benedict were delicious, they are almost impossible to eat without a sharp knife and an extra plate. Pro tip - if you get the Eggs Benedict Flight, ask for an extra plate - the delivery presentation is fun to look at but horrible to eat from.

I and my amazing woman ordered the Grilled Buffalo Chicken Cobb along with a half Very Berry Salad with added grilled chicken, and overall it was a satisfying, hearty meal. The Grilled Buffalo Chicken Cobb was the standout. The chicken was tender and well-cooked, topped with a bold buffalo sauce that added heat overpowering the dish (heh). The salad itself was generously portioned and visually appealing, loaded with fresh ingredients like cherry tomatoes, avocado slices, blue cheese crumbles, crispy bacon, hard-boiled egg, corn, carrots, and mixed greens. Every bite had a good balance of textures and flavors--creamy, crunchy, savory, and spicy. The Very Berry Salad (half portion) was fresh and light, making it a nice contrast to the Cobb. Adding grilled chicken made it more filling, though the upcharge felt a little steep for the portion size. Still, the greens and toppings were fresh and well-prepared. Service and presentation were solid, and the food arrived looking just as good as it tasted. One downside was the added 3% swipe/tap fee, which bumped the total up a bit, but the quality of the food helped justify the overall surprise. Overall: A flavorful, filling meal with fresh ingredients and strong presentation. A good choice if you're craving a substantial salad that doesn't feel boring and looking for a place to hide from a rain and talk to your loved one. (5/5)
