Lots of beers from all over Iowa on a revolving stock, Always pretty ok service and just a cool overall vibe. They have stuff going on almost every night, trivia, bingo, food trucks. Great indoor and outdoor spaces. Live music , tvs playing sports and more. Come check out on of my Ankeny favorites!

I came in during happy hour, an incredibly spacious place with lots of seating. Definitely a kid friendly with a kiddy corner full of toys and a tv. Noting that, drunk people and kids, means it can get pretty loud inside. But there's also a nice patio outside. They had bingo going on when I came in and that was pretty fun. Like the comments, this location is more of a taproom. I got to try the blueberry lemonade sour, which was my favorite. My friends got the blood orange wheat and they felt it was a strong good choice. They also have non alcoholic choices which is great. Out at the patio there was a food truck that I got to order food from. I had a brisket sandwich with fries. The brisket was definitely delicious. Overall i had a pleasant experience. Definitely kid friendly and a good spot to host a lot of people.

Nice big TVs for entertainment while at the bar.

Now that I've visited several times I am confident in giving this spot a full 5 stars. I really do like this smaller local spot. It defiantly gives me garage beer feels which I am a big fan of. Bar tenders have always been very helpful and attentive. Most of the time they have some type of entertainment going on. FYI 1 Monday a month they have puzzle races which was fun to see. Lots of good beer to drink and all around great place to check out any day of the week.

With the word Brewing in the name I assumed this place would have their own brewed beers but was misinformed. They only host other local breweries, which was great and familiar! They also didn't have food due to the cold as they only host local food trucks in the warmer months out on the back patio. I love the support to other local businesses and they have a great atmosphere for hanging out, especially on Tuesday's for the free bingo night (kid friendly!!) Will for sure be giving this place another go come summer as this is the perfect hang out spot for groups!

Came here for Halloween and didn't really enjoy the place. They are not a brewery, just a regular bar selling other brewery beers. Didn't feel like we "fit in" in this crowd and the people that worked there didn't make that any better. We tried ordering from the bar and were ignored several times before another female bartender came up to wait on us. Place wasn't all that busy when we were there so I was surprised by the lack of service. Probably won't be back...

    Great beer selection

Neat place! I like that inside there is plenty of room and it's not crammed with tables. We sat outside. It was nice. The patio is in the back on an alley so there's not a lot of traffic going by. Not a great view, but very nice to sit out there. We did flights to sample everything and didn't find any we didn't like. The staff was friendly and helpful. They even had a play are inside for kids. Next time I'm in Ankeny, it will be on my list to hit again.

Extensive beer selection, organized beer menu, and friendly staff! When looking at the menu, the waiter answered my questions thoroughly and recommended a great beer for me based on my preferences! The space is large accommodating for many people to enjoy brews. Come here for a beer and check out the different specials each day of the week!

    Drinking delicious Iowa beer!

This is one of my favorite places in Ankeny to try Iowa beers. It's very loud, but also very fun. They are family-friendly, with board games inside and a food truck outside that changes. A fairly impressive rotating list of Iowa beers and ciders, and you can do flights or get crawlers. The service can get pretty slow when they are busy and some bartenders will avoid eye contact when you are trying to close your tab, but they also give good beer recommendations, so I always give them a pass.

This has become one of our favorite places to have a couple beers in Ankeny. The place is big and spacious, they have a good selection of beers, rotating pretty frequently. The inside has a lot of great older signs everywhere. The patio here is very nice too. Have been here for a Bingo night and when they have music, both a good time. We have seen people bring in food from around the area before too. Overall a great place in the downtown Ankeny area

Ask the Community - Uptown Garage Brewing

Do they have any snacks or food? Like if I'm a DD what do I get

Hi Christine, we have a variety of snack foods including chips, pretzles, and muddy bites. We also offer a large selection of non-alcoholic beverages, including lots of non-alcoholic beers.

    Outdoor pet friendly?

Hi Rebecca! The patio is very pet friendly, though we ask that dogs do not go on the turf, as they cannot tell the difference between fake and real grass. Thanks!

If you haven't been to Twisted Vine Brewing - you should check it out. Their new location in…read moredowntown Des Moines in East Village is killer. They have two bars on the inside, a large outside area that has views of the Capitol, and furniture made by one of the team members that uses floorboards from the historical building (the building dates back to 1857!).  The brewery started as a passion project for a few of the original founders who were homebrewing by opening a three barrel system in a 20 by 20 space inside Madison County Winery. Since then they have moved twice (now into this new location), as they keep needing more space and keep improving! I got their newly tapped Kolsch and shared a flight while checking out the space and getting a tour by one of the owners. Capitol View Kolsch: A Kolsch served in a German stein. It uses an ale yeast, noble hops that provide a low spicy flavor / aroma, and a light pilsner malt with doughy notes. Light bodied, crisp, and dry. Refreshing on a hot Summer day. Their flights are HUGE, so I had to call in re-enforcements, but got the job done. The flight included: First Run Blonde (Blonde Ale), Bob's Ale (Cream Ale), Cali-Steam Collaboration (California Common), DeVine IPA (IPA), Triclops Tripel (Tripel), There's An APPricot For That (Guest Apricot Sour from 7 Hills Brewing), and Copper Alt (Guest Altbier from Zipline Brewing). A couple of my favorite are below. DeVine IPA: A Session IPA at 4.4% ABV. Mild fruity flavors reminiscent of pear, apple, and pineapple. Medium bitterness and a white bread malt profile. Similar to a West Coast style iPA with some low pine / resin flavors as well. Bob's Ale: A classic Cream Ale. Light-bodied, straw/yellow colored, with a low creamed corn malt flavor. Dry, crisp, clean and easy drinking. Cali-Steam Collaboration: A California Common brewed in collaboration with O.S.H.O. out of Arizona. A slight toasted bread-crust malt flavor with a hint of fruitiness. Nothing overpowering, but with a tandem of flavors for this hybrid lager-ale style. Enjoyable on a warm or hot day. Give Twisted Vine a shot next time you are in Des Moines! _________________

This location is nicely situated in the heart of Johnston and offers a fantastic menu and a wide variety of house made beers and they even have some guest beers on tap. (nice touch). They have mini bowling here and the venue is a grand 2 story building with high lofted ceilings and huge rollup doors to let the outside in. But not today...to hot ! Why only 3 stars? We opted to sit at the bar, because that is what we do. After a while the bar tender finally took our orders, and honestly he was not busy enough from my perspective to warrant that long of a wait. After the initial pause (and honestly we did almost get up ad leave) He was decent enough but left us wanting a more attention the entire time. Moving on....
