We've came here many times for a drink, to participate in puzzle league, or play bingo. They have lots of large tables, some outdoor seating, and bar seating available. I usually drink a cider or the root beer on tap. I've enjoyed all the ciders I've had. Some days the staff come to your table and take your order/wait on you, other times you're in a line ordering from the bar. Overall, we enjoy some of the activities they offer and food trucks that come in for food options. read more

I came here when visiting the area for a work trip - what a great little (large) neighborhood spot! My GPS took me through a quiet residential neighborhood and I was beginning to think there was no way a large brewery would appear... but there it was at the end of the street :) I was looking for a brewery to enjoy alone after work, and the other spots I'd looked up weren't open on Mondays, so Uptown Garage won out. I'm glad they did. It was surprisingly busy for a Monday evening when I walked in, but I later found out it was a competitive jigsaw puzzle league hosted at the bar on Mondays. I love this, and it also meant the place was a bit quieter than it might normally be with a crowd that big. If it were busy and super loud, I might have given it more of a 4 star rating... the concrete floor and high ceiling won't lend themselves to keeping noise down, but I don't like rating based on hypotheticals. So for a quiet-ish weekday evening -- fantastic! There was a nice mix of families with children and adult groups gathering together. If I did have an actual complaint (ish), it would be that this isn't actually a brewery. I feel like the name is misleading. However, they do specifically serve beer from Iowa breweries so they still get full stars for having an incredible tap list and supporting local! I sat at the mostly empty bar since everyone else was at their tables doing puzzles, so my service was very attentive. I chatted with the bartender about the puzzle league and my beer preferences, and she made some good recommendations and let me try a few to see which I liked best. I had a darker stout and a hazy IPA. For a lot of the beers they also offer a 5oz pour instead of a full pint. This is genius; I don't know why other places don't explicitly offer this as well. I highly recommend Uptown Garage if you're in the area, and in the nice weather months I'm sure it is even more amazing. read more

I came in during happy hour, an incredibly spacious place with lots of seating. Definitely a kid friendly with a kiddy corner full of toys and a tv. Noting that, drunk people and kids, means it can get pretty loud inside. But there's also a nice patio outside. They had bingo going on when I came in and that was pretty fun. Like the comments, this location is more of a taproom. I got to try the blueberry lemonade sour, which was my favorite. My friends got the blood orange wheat and they felt it was a strong good choice. They also have non alcoholic choices which is great. Out at the patio there was a food truck that I got to order food from. I had a brisket sandwich with fries. The brisket was definitely delicious. Overall i had a pleasant experience. Definitely kid friendly and a good spot to host a lot of people. read more

Now that I've visited several times I am confident in giving this spot a full 5 stars. I really do like this smaller local spot. It defiantly gives me garage beer feels which I am a big fan of. Bar tenders have always been very helpful and attentive. Most of the time they have some type of entertainment going on. FYI 1 Monday a month they have puzzle races which was fun to see. Lots of good beer to drink and all around great place to check out any day of the week. read more

With the word Brewing in the name I assumed this place would have their own brewed beers but was misinformed. They only host other local breweries, which was great and familiar! They also didn't have food due to the cold as they only host local food trucks in the warmer months out on the back patio. I love the support to other local businesses and they have a great atmosphere for hanging out, especially on Tuesday's for the free bingo night (kid friendly!!) Will for sure be giving this place another go come summer as this is the perfect hang out spot for groups! read more

Pulled over today outside Uptown Garage. Google showed they were not open just yet. Some guy came out walked behind my truck to look at my license plate then went back inside. A minute later a younger girl came out and blocked off my area with orange cones like it was all of a sudden a no parking area. There were no signs that said no parking there. And there was another vehicles parked two spaces away from me. I couldn't even back out to leave how I came in. I had to get out and move the cones to get out. In the future just motion for me to roll down my window and ask me to move. Don't put cones around me. Just a weird way to do things. read more

Came for the Oktoberfest stein holding competition (way harder than it looks) for my 1st visit. Great TV setup to watch games and a solid selection of beers. Outside is nice and has a food truck. Small snag with my tab amount but got it easily rectified with an email to the manager. read more

Came here for Halloween and didn't really enjoy the place. They are not a brewery, just a regular bar selling other brewery beers. Didn't feel like we "fit in" in this crowd and the people that worked there didn't make that any better. We tried ordering from the bar and were ignored several times before another female bartender came up to wait on us. Place wasn't all that busy when we were there so I was surprised by the lack of service. Probably won't be back... read more

First time visiting last weekend. Excited to go back when we have more time and bring some friends. Love the atmosphere!

Neat place! I like that inside there is plenty of room and it's not crammed with tables. We sat outside. It was nice. The patio is in the back on an alley so there's not a lot of traffic going by. Not a great view, but very nice to sit out there. We did flights to sample everything and didn't find any we didn't like. The staff was friendly and helpful. They even had a play are inside for kids. Next time I'm in Ankeny, it will be on my list to hit again. read more

This is one of my favorite places in Ankeny to try Iowa beers. It's very loud, but also very fun. They are family-friendly, with board games inside and a food truck outside that changes. A fairly impressive rotating list of Iowa beers and ciders, and you can do flights or get crawlers. The service can get pretty slow when they are busy and some bartenders will avoid eye contact when you are trying to close your tab, but they also give good beer recommendations, so I always give them a pass. read more

This has become one of our favorite places to have a couple beers in Ankeny. The place is big and spacious, they have a good selection of beers, rotating pretty frequently. The inside has a lot of great older signs everywhere. The patio here is very nice too. Have been here for a Bingo night and when they have music, both a good time. The beer flights are great, nice to be able to sample all kinds of beer. The staff is very knowledgeable about their inventory and take the time to describe their beers and make suggestions. Great place to watch a game too.....I just don't understand all the children in this place along with all the kids activities. I really want to like this place but can't get over having children running around when we're trying to enjoy an adult experience. read more

Love this place!! Great beer (awesome for my beer snob husband) and nice staff. The best part for us though is how kid-friendly they are. Not "here are some crayons" friendly but "we have a kids area with toys and a tv" friendly. Plus a great outdoor patio with room for games. Definitely our new go-to!! read more

Disappointing is a generous description of my experience. Their beer list was updated the same day I went, but they didn't have 4 of 5 beers I ordered. They were selling A LOT of Michelob Ultra for a "brewery" that doesn't even brew their own beer. read more

If you haven't been here, you should go.. like tonight or tomorrow or now! This is exactly what uptown Ankeny (and Ankeny in general) has been missing. Unlike another uptown institution, this place is huge and doesn't feel so "local". Lots of tables and room at the bar, plus a really cool patio area with fake grass and games and lots of TVs that they actually use to put on different games (instead of every tv showing the same game). I don't think they brew their own beer yet but the selection on tap and in cans is very good. There is no food served here but you can bring in your own or order it or there's sometimes a food truck. Almost everyone brings pizza from Caseys or Leaning Tower. The staff is VERY cool about clearing away your plates and pizza boxes from outside vendors. This is probably the most kid friendly bar I've ever been too, so be warned that on a Friday night there might be 10+ kids running around outside or in the play area. Since it's right off the High Trestle trail its the perfect spot to ride a bike to from almost anywhere in town, if anything they could use a few more bike racks. read more
