If you haven't been to Twisted Vine Brewing - you should check it out. Their new location in downtown Des Moines in East Village is killer. They have two bars on the inside, a large outside area that has views of the Capitol, and furniture made by one of the team members that uses floorboards from the historical building (the building dates back to 1857!).  The brewery started as a passion project for a few of the original founders who were homebrewing by opening a three barrel system in a 20 by 20 space inside Madison County Winery. Since then they have moved twice (now into this new location), as they keep needing more space and keep improving! I got their newly tapped Kolsch and shared a flight while checking out the space and getting a tour by one of the owners. Capitol View Kolsch: A Kolsch served in a German stein. It uses an ale yeast, noble hops that provide a low spicy flavor / aroma, and a light pilsner malt with doughy notes. Light bodied, crisp, and dry. Refreshing on a hot Summer day. Their flights are HUGE, so I had to call in re-enforcements, but got the job done. The flight included: First Run Blonde (Blonde Ale), Bob's Ale (Cream Ale), Cali-Steam Collaboration (California Common), DeVine IPA (IPA), Triclops Tripel (Tripel), There's An APPricot For That (Guest Apricot Sour from 7 Hills Brewing), and Copper Alt (Guest Altbier from Zipline Brewing). A couple of my favorite are below. DeVine IPA: A Session IPA at 4.4% ABV. Mild fruity flavors reminiscent of pear, apple, and pineapple. Medium bitterness and a white bread malt profile. Similar to a West Coast style iPA with some low pine / resin flavors as well. Bob's Ale: A classic Cream Ale. Light-bodied, straw/yellow colored, with a low creamed corn malt flavor. Dry, crisp, clean and easy drinking. Cali-Steam Collaboration: A California Common brewed in collaboration with O.S.H.O. out of Arizona. A slight toasted bread-crust malt flavor with a hint of fruitiness. Nothing overpowering, but with a tandem of flavors for this hybrid lager-ale style. Enjoyable on a warm or hot day. Give Twisted Vine a shot next time you are in Des Moines! _________________

Stopped in today for a flight of craft brews. The building is absolutely beautiful. The bartender was attentive and even designed my flight of IPAs. If you find yourself in the area, check it out. There was about 30 beers on tap today!

What is a stout and what is a root beer?

Stopped here after an Iowa cubs game. Sat outside and enjoyed our drinks. The place is set up well and very pleasant. Bartender was nice. I had a kombucha. Friend had root beer on tap. The guys had a couple of brews.

We found this place via a travel app and we're so glad that we did. The atmosphere is amazing and the staff is so friendly and helpful. Keith is the awesome man behind the bar. Top notch Master of the Taps. The selection of brews is truly widespread and you will find something you like. Have a seat and you won't regret it.

Quite a selection of tasty beers!!

New location is a big plus. Near downtown but far enough away to avoid the headache of Court Ave. beautiful outdoor seating with an inside bar accessible through large garage door type opening. Inside is another bar with an event space off to the side. Clean and modern with lots of good beer on tap and sports on multiple big screens. Some prepackaged salty snacks available for purchase. I think this was an excellent move for them.

Location is super clean, cool, and large.

Recently we had a cool dude retire from our company. We wanted to treat him right so we had a a retirement party for this good fellow. Twisted Vine just moved to the brewery section of East Village. In the end the place is amazing. They closed half the place and we were able to have a great party with about 60-100 people. The prices were reasonable and the beer was fantastic!! The staff there treated us like King's and Queens! It was super cool. Would absolutely do this again and again. 12 out of 10 stars!

Ronery, oh so ronery. Where is everybody? Huge brewery tasting room with an abundance of parking, but no one to be found on the weekend afternoon we had stopped by. Anyways, I imagine this one could be quite the spot to meet up with large groups and kick back a few, watch a game, enjoy some company, play some board games, or even some of several arcade coin machine games they have to offer. But all in all, just wasn't feeling the lonely vibes here when we visited. Sampled a few IPAs, pale ales, and stouts while we were here. Not bad. Anyhow, maybe I just visited at the wrong time. Definitely could be the spot to meet up with the hophead gang. 'Til next time, cheers!

This was a stop on our beer tour. Is anyone else out there remember when this place was Coconut Joes? Well, this is a great stop right off the interstate. There is seating inside and out. TVs and lots of seating. They have all that you would expect for a brewery. They have their stouts and even a cider that I enjoyed. We lucked out and grabbed a seat outside where it was nice and warm. If you love your beers have this be one of your local stops and enjoy. This is just south of Valley West Mall.

Visited twisted vine tonight for a jewelry making event. What a blast! For a special event fee, we had access to instruction, materials and all the needed equipment to make a silver wrap ring. Plus a ticket to get a beer from the bar. It was our first time here and I was surprised by the huge space. It had almost a coffee shop vibe with tons of board games and quirky art on the walls for sale.

For something a little darker, full bodied, we enjoyed old Crusty's Scottish, Tsunami Porter, and Valley West Stout.

The Smush Burger with American Cheese, fried onions, pickles, and Lua Sauce. I wasn't expecting it to be so incredibly delicious. I got the Lua Sauce on the side because I wanted to taste just the burger. This has to be one of the best burgers. How does this place not get recognized or have I just been sleeping because the burger is phenomenal. Juicy, great flavor, and the Lua Sauce is excellent as well. The fires were very good too. The Service was good. A minor annoyance is the 3% fee for CC. Paid cash and still got the 3% fee. Just figure it into the price of business if you're going to get charged for it either way. Just an annoyance. Will definitely return for the burger. Sorry haters I felt it was better than Lachelle's, better flavor. Just my opinion.

It was a touch past lunchtime but the bar area was still busy, yet had seats open. We sat at the end and after some time was given some a water carafe and 2 small glasses (with no ice). She (never gave us her name) then came back for our drink order. And immediately asked for food, which we were not ready for. We gave her our drink order, after that we never seen her again. Sat there awhile. For so long we started looking at other restaurants around to eat. Then we she finally looked our way my husband made a motion to pay so we could just leave. It is right off the trail, has free water, free live music, free bike parking, and a great patio. Add in cold local beer at fair prices, and it is pretty hard to complain. The people serving were mostly friendly, the beer was very good, and the selection is always great. If you go inside and head up the stairs, the selection gets even better. My only suggestion: please consider selling mix-and-match 4-packs or single cans to go. We wanted to buy some to take with us, but we could not agree on one flavor, so we skipped buying more and just stuck with what came out of the tap. For cyclists, bridge beers and bike beers are a real thing, and it feels like there is a missed opportunity there. That said, we will absolutely be back for all the "free" stuff, the local beer, and that amazing patio. Great trail stop, great beer, and a perfect place to take a break. Keep up the Lord's work.
