I've eaten here once before for dinner, but I tried their bottomless brunch this time around. For $16, it was a pretty good deal since most of their food is already below $14. Ultimately, it is just bar breakfast food so don't have super high expectations. There are many better spots known for their brunch in the city. Stopped in for brunch on Mother's Day, there was 10 of us and we had no complaints about the service. There was a couple other groups of 6 or more people and we were well attended to. We all chose from the brunch menu but had the option to select from the full menu. I picked the sliders with egg, cheese and sausage. I expected a sausage patty but it was a larger link cut in half making for a more difficult sandwich to eat but it was good. Not greasy or dry. I requested a spicy Bloody Mary and it was delicious. They also had an all you can drink BM option but I chose just one. I would be interested in visiting for lunch or dinner some time and I recommend others do the same. read more

Our server, Ashley, was great. It looked like a busy night, but she working hard and tried to make right for any mistakes. Our group came in for the Thursday night wings. Food was pretty average, nothing special but not terrible. 20% large party gratuity was added to the bill, to be expected. The thing that threw me was a 4% ESF, whatever that means. A surprise 4% hidden behind some acronym is pretty lousy. At least just price it into the wings so I don't even notice. read more

Stopped by for a brunch on a Sunday and was impressed with the amount of choices on the menu all at reasonable prices. Out server was very friendly and checked back on us multiple times. I had the hash dish which was really good while others had pancakes (they're huge!), eggs, and bacon. Overall the only complaint was most of the food came out lukewarm. The patio area is exactly what we needed. There was shade, and it was cozy and draped in vining plants. There was even brunch being served! The inside seems more sports bar style, but the patio is one of the best in the city, it huge and is risen on a deck so you over look the business of Ingersol ave! It's perfect! This was my first time eating here in over ten years. The service was great and the various salads we ordered were fresh and unique. My brother ordered the Cajun seared tuna and it was perfect. I brought my 9 month old daughter to meet a friend for a quick bite recently and just loved Wellman's. The patio looked amazing, however we ended up inside due to the heat. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip and chicken nachos, both of which were so fresh and tasted great! I look forward to coming back, as their extensive food and drink menu have tons of good options. Inside had a fun and relaxed sports bar feel. Service was fast and helpful... my only complaint was that it wasn't super baby-friendly (what can you do right?). Was really hoping to be able to enjoy an evening on the Wellman's patio. Unfortunately though it was closed due to inclement weather earlier in the day. Not letting this ruin our night we decided to stay and just eat inside rather than trying somewhere else. It took awhile to get drinks and a food order in. Then when the food did come we asked for condiments that never made it to the table. Our server disappeared for most of the night making it really hard to get refills and the check. Both my dinner date and I got burgers. They weren't the best but weren't bad either. The real star of the show was the french fries, perfectly crispy! Wellman's is a solid neighborhood bar with lots of wooden booths and tables inside - and a great patio outside.The crowd can get a little sketchy on the weekends, but on a weeknight this is a pretty good place to meet up with friends for a couple of drinks. Their patio is one of the biggest on Ingersoll, and the beer selection is pretty good. That said, the food is not worth ordering here, so if you're after bar food, I'd go down the block and hit up Zimm's instead. I would probably not order food here again - that bad. Just got off work was very hungry and remember that the chicken parmesan was on special this evening for $8.95. The food was delicious and decided to stay around for a couple drinks. I took a phone call on the patio and to my return to the bar I saw a young "professional" celebrating her birthday. Her gentlemen friend must have been a gynecologist, I've never seen more fingers dissappear so quickly. It reminded me of a puppeteer. I love Wellman's. The staff is always friendly and courteous, and the drinks are great. I also LOVE the Portabella Mushroom pizza with adding chicken. It is my favorite pizza, anywhere. It is the default watering hole for my best friend and me. We are here at least 3-4x a week. It can get pretty busy on weekends, but our personal favorite time to go there is during the daytime when it's a calmer atmosphere. I have never had a bad experience there. Good food, courteous staff with good service (especially when seated at the bar), and reasonably priced, well-made drinks. I really can't ask for much more in a pub. We've been here a few times, and it's fine as a stop along Ingersoll or for a drink on the patio before heading downtown. But we came here on the Sunday before Labor Day for a friend's birthday - we were bar hopping down Ingersoll, and this was stop #2. Now I get it that it was a Sunday, so maybe they weren't expected 12 people to roll through their door at 7pm, but it was Sunday on a long weekend. If I were a bar owner, I'd be staffed up and running specials all night long! Anyway, we got the dimmest waitress in all of Des Moines. When we asked for menus, she brought one. One menu for 12 people. Our drinks took forever, they came out one at a time. She messed up two of the drink orders. It took her days to come back with a few more menus for the group, and by that time, the couple with us who had ordered at the bar were already done with their meals. By that point, when she finally came and asked if we were ready to order, we were done and decided to move on to the next stop (Star Bar, BTW, where we had pretty darn speedy service despite being pretty packed, and the food was delicious!) read more

Wellman's is average at best. From the menue, prices, drinks, pretty much everything. That doesn't mean it ks terrible but it isn't particularly memorable either. Also, don't order their pizza. It really doesn't sound like a good idea anyway. Pretty sure it is just a cheap frozen pizza that you could make yourself for less $. read more

Been to Wellmans quite a few times now! They have one of the best bar Patio's in DM. You can enjoy your brew and food while taking in all the action happening on Ingersoll. Inside it's pretty much a sports bar. Lots of memorabilia, and games playing on the tvs. There is a nice room with a pool table where you can play and not worry about being in anyones way or anyone being in your way. The prices are pretty typical, they have specials that change daily. Ive had a few different meals here but the last one I had was the street tacos and they were delicious! My friends got burgers and a chicken sandwich that must have also been good because they ate them up real quick! They don't really have much for vegetarian or vegan options so if youre looking for a good meal in that direction, I'd probably go elsewhere. I would have given Wellmans 4 stars but couldnt for two reasons. 1) the bathrooms have a really strange odor, kind of like chewing tobacco-I don't know what it is but they need a new air freshener or something. 2) the last time I came in with a few of my girlfriends we had a really rude bartender. He was pretty vulgar and even "jokingly" called my friend a b****. It was really unprofessional and unless you really know your customer I dont think that's something your business should be known for. Other than that I have had pleasant experiences with the other staff I have encountered and will be back to Wellmans for sure. read more
