My wife is a cheese curd snob and absolutely loved them here. Battered, not breaded, and fresh.

Best wings in town! Service was incredible and atmosphere was fun and lively. Lots of locals, which is always a good sign.

Many bars serve Guinness on tap. It doesn't make them Irish Pubs. Do they serve Fish & Chips? No. Do they serve Shepherd's Pie? No. Do they serve Corned Beef & Cabbage? No. Are they an Irish Pub? NO WAY!!! read more

This place is okay! Typical bar food and a cozy atmosphere. It can get a little loud with lots of people, and I felt like our service was quite slow. The food was also subpar. read more

4.0* (out of 5) Food: 4* Atmosphere: 4* Value: 4* Service: 4* 08/21/2023 I picked up my wife here after a post-work party and have since wanted to stop back to try some of their food. I got the chance while doing some 'R&D' for HappyHourDesMoines.com recently and found it to be a solid stop for Happy Hour. Since they advertised $3 Guinness pints and I enjoy Guinness, I started with a pint while perusing their food menu. Since it was Monday and their Daily Special was $12 Appetizers, I settled on an order of wings (see picture). I opted for half Jalapeno Honey Lime Sriracha and half Mango Habanero and would recommend both of them - moist, juicy wings with just the right amount of 'kick'. While nothing stood out as outstanding enough to warrant a 5* rating in any of my categories, all aspects of my visit were well above average and deserving of 4*s across the board. As far as my experiences with Irish Pubs, this is in the upper tier and worthy of a stop when you are in the mood for a Pint and some solid bar food. My wife and I stopped here for a quick bite during a date night. It was our first time here, but it will certainly not be the last time! The food was very good, and our waitress was phenomenal. And, being an Irish whisky lover, I can't complain about their selection! (I enjoyed a glass of Tullamore D.E.W. 12 and Green Spot.) I had the Sully Burger, and she had the hot dog. She said her hot dog, smothered with toppings, was hands down the best dog she'd ever had. My burger was also very good, with my only nit to be picked was the burger being slightly over-cooked. Otherwise - what a fantastic meal, finished off with an order of fried Oreos. Fries always seem to be a subjective thing, where some like them soft, some like them crunchy, salty vs. seasoned, etc... to us, the fries were perfect. A little bit of crunch and seasoned nicely. It wasn't overly busy, as it was a Sunday night. The Chiefs were playing their AFC Championship game, and there were quite a few Chiefs fans in the place. But it was still just a nice, cozy evening, and we really enjoyed our visit. We're unfortunately an hour away, but we see ourselves making a few trips down there anyway over the next year! read more

This is such a fun little place! It was a gorgeous day, so I grabbed the dog & off we went to enjoy some food. (Did you know the patio is dog friendly) They have a little outdoor water station & waitresses are prepared with yummy dog bones! Definitely a favorite for my guy. Each waitress goes above & beyond to accommodate & serve making it a place we will continue to visit I will rave about the Cheese Curds to anyone willing to listen & now I can officially add Nachos to that list! The homemade chips make things a bit more unique & flavor is . read more

Sully's Irish Pub - Raspberry Mule, Cheese Curds & Nachos. - Irish Pub Near Me - West Des Moines, Iowa

I finally stopped here after years of wanting to! I've heard so many great things about this little Irish Pub, and they were exactly correct! I had not had fried food in quite some time and decided to have cheese curds and a deep fried burger! You read that right, a deep fried beef patty. Where has this been my entire life?! Wow, you've got to try this Bubba Burger for yourself when you stop by. The toppings for the burger were all fresh and crisp. Also, the cheese curds have the best breading you could ask for. It's not the cornmeal breading, but a light flakey and crunchy breading that is perfect for your taste buds! The wings here are also just as good! I'd compare them to the ones you can get at "Gerri's Bar" across form the fair grounds. Definitely worth it when you want some buffalo sauce and blue cheese! The building looks much bigger from the outside, but once you're inside, there is less room than you'd think. There is a large bar that does take up most of the room inside, along with a good amount of high-top tables for patrons. There are plenty of televisions mounted on nearly every wall, playing golf, basketball, football, trivia... you name it! Just ask the bartender for a specific game and she can change the channel for you. When the weather is nice and if inside is too crowded, Sully's has you covered; literally, with their patio! They've got outdoor seating for those that want to enjoy the weather while they enjoy some food and drinks. One plus that I didn't realize is that they allow dogs on the patio! This is a huge plus for our family because I would absolutely bring our dogs during nice weather! Next time I'm craving something deep fried or have a hankering for Sully's I will make sure it's not years before I stop back! read more

Stopped in with a group during happy hour to watch March madness basketball. We were excited to be able to watch multiple games at once. We ordered the homemade cheese curds with homemade ranch dressing. The cheese curds are huge and the absolute BEST we've ever had! The happy hour is BOGO drink. Our waitress was very attentive and stopped by frequently to ensure we were able to get our fill of drinks! Free fresh popcorn too! The pub is upscale and very clean including the restrooms! The atmosphere was electric with a lot of people watching the Iowa basketball game. read more

I wish I could like this place but the service with this grumpy lady made me not want to come back. After what she realized she said to me she started to get nicer but you know what? Your first impression sucks. I won't be coming back. Don't know what crawled up your butt tonight but I was going here to relax. Didn't get a good vibe. Get better customer service! read more

Stopped in on an nfl Sunday was great atmosphere with good deals - 14.00 wings, 15.00 domestic buckets and 18.00 seltzer buckets. Also 3.00 Guinness drafts all day every day. Friendly bartender! Minus one star for being a Vikings bar :) read more

Stopped for drinks after work with peers. Great at atmosphere. Ordered drinks and the bartender and wait staff did a great job of keeping our drinks filled and water at the table. We happened to stay just long enough to start playing Rock N Roll BINGO. We ended up staying all evening and having a blast. Great adult fun and beverages. Definitely will be back with new friends read more

Absolutely love this place. Best wings in town. Food made fresh, including all their sauces and dressings. Free popcorn - my kryptonite. Many regulars here but always welcoming to new people. Super great staff. Can't recommend more. Nice patio as well. Located close to Val Air Ballroom if looking for a place to hang out before a show over there. read more

The service was very nice, loud Irish bar feel. The wings with the Irish hot sauce is to DIE FOR. These wings were probably the best I've had, also one of the hottest and that's saying a lot coming from a Bdubs blazing challenge finisher. The burger had a nice char and was cooked well. The other MUST GET item is the cheese curds. Sorry Wisconsin but this place takes the gold for best fried cheese curds. Lightly battered, chewy, and served with house made ranch, a true match made in heaven. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for someone Irish-ish fare! read more

Three of us went about a month ago. We sat out on the patio. It was a beautiful day. They have a big beautiful patio. The service was good. I ordered the chip nachos. They were good, but not great. This is not something I would probably order again. My son had a burger and requested no sauce on it and it came with sauce. Fortunately it was easy enough to scrape off. My dad had the most beautiful burger. The cheese was a checker board! Food was decent bar food, nothing fancy. Service was good. Bathrooms were clean. read more

We stopped in for some drinks and dinner as we enjoyed some good times at the old location in the past. We were there on burger night, so it's a good deal to grab a sandwich on a Tuesday. The burger was OK - a bit dry and served on a fresh bun with a very fun cheese presentation. There are the usual condiments, and we opted for the homemade chips, which were pretty good too. Drinks are very reasonably priced and I had a martini, which was very good! This is certainly a great place to stop for a beverage and the new location offers much more room and good indoor and outdoor seating options. Food is OK, but wasn't remarkable. I'd certainly return to hang out on the patio or grab another well-crafted martini! read more

Service and drinks were good. We got the Irish nachos and the paddy melt and they were not great. We wouldn't come back for the food

Waited longer expected to get served on a Sunday of what seemed to be a not busy night. Wasn't offered any specials and ended up Paying $4.25 for a 12 oz Busch lite. For equivalent of $102/case, not feeling the luck of the Irish and I will stay home and serve myself. read more

Sully's is a gem in Des Moines! We stumbled upon it, and I'm so glad we did. They make some amazing nachos with homemade potato chips smothered in so much goodness. Their cheese curds are the best I have ever had. They are better than state fair cheese curds. Great staff! They are friendly and efficient. Come on the weekends during the day and give Kim some love, she's awesome! If we lived in Iowa we would be regulars. read more

I must admit I missed the old Sully's a bit but this new one does have Touch Tunes, and a giant PADDY-O see what I did there! The old location had some much divey charm that this dark, but cleaner spot does not quite have the same vibe! Staff is usually pretty nice and the drinks are still pretty cheap, but the pot of Gold was at the old Sully's for sure! read more

Great food and great beer specials. Had the "Paddy" melt and cheese curds. 2 for 1 domestics and 3.00 Guinness pints on Thursday nights.

A fun Irish sports bar with good food and great drinks. Plenty of TV's for sports watching, a nice outdoor patio where I enjoyed the weather with a lady friend. I've discovered the #1 Iowan craft beer brewed by Exile Brewing called Ruthie's! A very good golden lager and it's been my go to brew in the Great State of Iowa! read more

All of our food was burnt/charred. Reuben was super burnt. Sent it back and the waitress said she had debated on whether she should have brought it out because it smelled and looked burnt. Ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich. Came with no buffalo sauce and charred bun. Soggy cheese curds. Even with all of the issues - no discounts on the food. We are not people who send food back or complain but it was not edible. read more

We went to Sully's on the 2nd day at the new location. It was suspiciously clean and oddly new! It still smelled of new paint and varnish. I will probably get used to it but it is just not the same without the pickled eggs in a jar on the bar. The same old characters are here so it is kind of homey still! Bonus - They have amazing drink special each night and they have a late night happy hour too. They have fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and vodka (Greyhound) for just $3 after 10pm. That is a real value. read more

I've had a lot of good memories at Sully's! Unfortunately I'm not that big of a fan of the new location/remodel. I really miss the divey feel of the old Sully's. That being said it still is a great bar. Very clean and big-very loud and echoey. Of course still lots of drink choices-had my first Zima here! The bartenders are always super friendly and ready to join you in a conversation. The bathrooms are clean. It has lost a lot of its charm for me but as long as they keep the popcorn, It's still a bar I'm sure I'll be back too.. read more

My husband and I stopped by this Irish pub because that's what we do. We seek out Irish Pubs. I normally don't eat at them , just usually stop for a beer. Today was different and I thought I'd try something different. I had a Ruben and we got some cheese curds and my husband got a bacon chicken wrap. When the food arrived I dove into the cheese curd first. Um - yeah that was amazing, like there's not a cheese curd on the planet that was that good. The Ruben , well that was just as good. The breath had grill marks in it which gave it a smoky type flavor which I feel paired it well with all the other ingredients. I wanted to take some cheese curds to go, but the cook walked out in the middle of his shift leaving them short staffed with no cook. It wasn't overly busy, so I'm not sure why the gal wouldn't throw some in the fryer. At any rate, dear cook who left on May 15th your food was fantastic. Come back. read more

One star docked for service issues alone. We ordered the curds, Shirl burger, and buffalo chicken wrap. It did take quite a long time to get our food and the curds came out with the entrees - not a huge deal, but still. My boyfriend got a chicken bacon ranch wrap instead of buffalo chicken he ordered. When he told the waiter it was incorrect, he kindly took it inside and asked about it but came out and said it was the buffalo wrap. He was a very nice waiter - not his fault at all. Definitely wasn't a buffalo wrap though. I will say the curds are the bomb and I really liked the Shirl burger. I would try again but definitely disappointing service-wise. read more

My first time here and Im bummed that I didn't get pics but will have to get them next time. This place was PACKED! If you are an IOWA fan (GO IOWA) this would be the spot to go! We happen to show up there randomly on a Saturday and it was definitely jammed packed. I like that this place is close to my house and serves good food and drinks. I will have to experience this place again when it is less crowded, but for it being super busy I was still happy with the service. They do have a pool table in there incase you get bored with the person you are with lol. Our poor waiter I could tell was frazzled and super annoyed with all the crazy drunk people around, but she still kept up the great service. I tried the Sully's Irish Dog and it was actually pretty dang tasty for a hot dog. Had pickles, tomatoes, onion, and jalapenos topped on the bun! Our group also shared the French fries, wings, and nachos-everything was really good. I will definitely be back to watch the football here! read more
