I love the crowd, people like a shot&beer and the bar is down to talk. This last point is lost on almost any bar in a city. Our bartender Sam was FANTASTIC! Such a fabulous person, our drinks were amazing! She was warm and friendly and offered amazing advice on fun things to do to a couple of out of towners! She is a gem for this establishment! read more

I have never felt so insulted in my life. I sat at the patio bar on a very slow evening. The bartender kept making rude comments and jokes. Then told me it's how all bartenders interact with their guests. He told me 1. I would've guess you to be 68. (I'm 48, and he was eavesdropping to hear my age) 2. When I asked (paying cash) how much I owe the price increased each time I ordered. 3. I've worked in the service industry most of my life, told him I didn't appreciate his behavior and being a bartender I've never treated anyone so rudely. He then got aggressive asking me to "validate" myself and demanded to know where I work. I told him. Hope he reads this. Come on in! read more

Nice little pub. Went in winter so the patio was closed, but cozy inside. Great prices on drinks, tvs and board games to play at tables.

I have been to the new Mickey's downtown patio a couple of times since it has opened. Both times, it was a Friday night. It gets packed rather quickly and you can end up waiting in line on a nice night. My suggestion is to get there early and stake your spot. Tables are really hard to come by too (unless you get there early enough). The first Friday I was there, it was a brief stop in after attending WineFest. I swear half the people moved to this patio after WineFest so it was really busy. The second Friday, we started our night downtown here so we eventually got a table! There was also a good band playing. It did get really packed and was hard to get through the crowd to leave. We had a little bit of a sketchy waitress who asked one time about getting paid before the drink came...not so sure what that was all about. The mixed drinks are small but the atmosphere is good. The bartenders were amazing, even the security guy who was forced to escort me out after the whole situation; he was very kind and apologetic. The issue was with a worker whom I'm not allowed to name to spread awareness. Me, three other women(strangers), along with my group had concerns with this man. People were pushed aside to get out of this workers way whenever he chose to walk by and the way he put his hands on people was so ridiculous I had asked my friend if she was O.K. Moving forward, he had screamed at three other women, including myself because we thought his attitude was out of control and we chose to stick up for the woman he was yelling at at the time. He continued to get upset because of the situation he put himself in then personally attacked my appearance. He knew he was wrong and had nothing else to use, so of course, best thing is to attack someone's appearance to hurt them, right? He made fun of my hair amongst other things, saying disrespectful things when shaming my appearance. He was obviously drunk(or an a**), extremely angry, AND HE WAS WORKING! Horrible experience I could not believe it; still in disbelief that a worker is allowed to act like that AND be allowed the privilege to kick out anyone who dares to defend themselves from malicious intent. I do need to point out just how aggressive this man was. I walked away from the argument- went back to where my group was sitting and spoke to a family member over what had occurred. The same worker saw me speaking with her and from across the hall I hear, "WHY YOU TALKING S***!" (he thought me telling him to calm down was "talking s***" and he continued to say it repetitively thereafter) he stomped over to my group and made a point to get uncomfortably close into my personal space as if to threaten me... plenty other good spots to give your money too. read more

Pretty laid back on a Tuesday night, dollar off drinks til 8, nice patio with heaters and Guinness on tap...I can recommend. No food though...not a problem when on a liquid diet. read more

Went to Annies for a bachelorette party and went to use the restroom. As there was a line for the girls, I asked the guy if we could use the mens restroom. He said no, which was fine and we joke about it. He then proceeded to tell me to stop joking around and then proceeded to escort us out of the restaurant? I was the only one of the bachelorette part to get kicked out because I guess I was being disrespectful? I got separated from the bachelorette party and went home. Loved this pub! We were in town from KC for the Eric Church concert so there were quite a few people there. The atmosphere was great, décor is awesome, bartending staff was topnotch. We hung out there for about an hour to kill time. If we didn't have somewhere else to be we could've stayed there all night. Like I said, atmosphere was awesome. Been here several times working on trying to like this place. We have sat both indoors and out. Inside is dark and woody reminiscent of an Irish pub in Ireland. It is not comfortable though. I don't know what it is about the seating or the set up but it doesn't support a longer visit. Outside can be nice on a decent day. It is not covered but there is a bar and a lot of seating available. The music can be very loud which is not really conducive to having conversations. The crowd tends to change from day to night. The entire downtown area changes for that matter. The vibe completely changes and there is nothing Irish left. Rude patrons, loud music, cups thrown all over the place, horrible bathrooms, service diminishes..... We finally stopped going here because it was more of a hardship than enjoyment. There are so many places to go that there is no reason to go here. If they put some money into the place and rebranded it they could make bank. Perfect corner setting with a huge patio. Mickey's is a place I don't frequent to often but have been a few times for a drink before! I dig the outdoor seating in the summer! They have one of the better patio area's downtown. Plenty of room to hang and sports always on the tv's, yes they got tv's outside! They sometimes have bands playing outside too, during the Farmer's Market's and or special events! I once came to a Party here that my friend DJ'd and it was kinda the perfect outdoor environment for hanging. Now the inside is nothing special, a typical -trying to be an Irish bar! They sell lots of Jamison and a few Irish brews.. Now the crowd can get a little rowdy at night so beware, but the times I have been here during the day and or afternoon were great! read more

A Tale of Two Mickeys. Afternoon Mickey's: Awesome Nighttime Mickey's: Everything I loathe in one convenient location Mickey's is the best place to day drink in the city. The patio is fantastic, (if it isn't a holiday) the place is only moderately busy. They have comfortable bench/tables that fit groups, free peanuts and tolerable prices on everything. They also take credit. When it gets dark out, abort your beer mission. Mickey's is a two headed dragon that only rears its ugly head once nighttime hits. The music changes, the crowd thickens to an uncomfortable type of crowded (no dancing) and they stop taking credit. Seriously. Cash only at night. Time warp to 1992. They even have port-o-potties permanently on the patio because they understand how awful and ridiculous the bathrooms inside are (2 tiny stalls, 2 broken locks, 1 sink and 0 additional people that can fit inside it). However, the patio isn't covered. The inside is awful, covered in peanut shells and dark, so if it isn't a nice day, just skip it. read more

Can't say I am much of a fan. Besides the large patio in the summer, it is always overly crowded and the inside is small. If you are going out for late night drinks downtown, I would pass on Mickey's. read more

Just stopped by for wine and beer at their outside serving venue. The bartenders were great! Very attentive and helpful and this doesn't always happen at a youth oriented spot when we are clearly in our 60's. My major concern was the lack of compliance with the Iowa Clean Air Act. People were smoking. Employees were smoking and because this patio serving area is attached to the restaurant which serves food this is a clear violation. ( I get that vaping is not yet defined and the owner needs to prohibit that individually. There was vaping.) I am talking about cigarette and cigar smoking in an area that the law is clear about. I have not yet decided if I will file a complaint through the website. We should be over this by now. It's illegal folks. read more

Mickey's has an excellent outdoor bar seating area which attracts all walks of life. The staff have been friendly and the drinks reasonably priced for the area. The inside is starkly different, definitely more of a pub vibe that you can take your friends inside to if you want to avoid the swarm of yuppies. I would definitely add this place to your stop while boozing downtown. read more

Stopped in for a drink after walking by heading elsewhere. This is a cute place...not big inside from what we saw in the bar area, but they have a nice, big outside patio area. The drinks were very good, and the service attentive. It's cozy, and the decor is fun so we enjoyed some laughs looking around at all the stuff on the walls and ceiling, some of which we remembered from our childhood. Of course then we laughed when realized in our late 40's that we must be relics/antiques too. So we had another round and toasted to that! ;) read more

we stopped in here on their newly built outdoor patio to have a drink and do some people watching during the des moines farmers market. great patio with lots of seating and/or standing options. our waitress was friendly and funny and didn't rush us off the table even though we sat there for some time nursing a couple of beers. later that evening, we saw the place packed to the nines so i guess it's a very popular spot. read more

Smells like dog kibble/fertilizer and my draft beer was skunky. They claim to be an Irish pub but just played lame edm remixes of pop songs. A little dirty too. A real disappointment for having such a large patio space with so much potential. read more

Rude female barmaid. Her name is vatna . Skipped over me and my friend . Then she called us needy and told us to tip her . We did tip her 4$ on a 10$ order . She picked up the 4$ tip we left her then she told us to tip her and not to be so needy next time ! She didn't even say sorry after I told her I just tipped her and that I watched her pick it up !! I have a job where I work for tips as well and I would NEVER talk to a customer like that !! That's the quickest way not to get tipped . And If you hate your job that much to where you feel like you need to be rude maybe bartendiNg isn't the best job for you ! read more

Amazing environment and the Friday night band played the 4th best version of the Star-Spangled Banner that I've ever heard, first being Celine Dion during the 2001ALCS (obviously), second Bruno Mars at a Philippines relief concert and third Motley Crew at a concert in Indianapolis during summer of 1998. Did someone say smoke show? Plenty of does at Mickey's. But be careful of Steph, she's there every night and is incredibly clingy. Good beer, better band and amazing fireworks. 4.1 stars. read more

Crowd is usually alright but the manager is a real B*TCH!!! Drinks are very inconsistently made, which is probably attributed to the bartenders always being completely wasted. Logan is by far the worst, but closely followed by Ashley (manager). Is it just me or is it weird that the manager of this place is also a bartender there?? i like the bartenders alot but the place smells like urine because they never empty to portapoties which sit next to the door. wtf is up with the owners Anne Baldwin. my GF actually got sick from smell which we all agree would give even pig farms a bad name. iowa doesn't have sanitary codes obviously. read more
