I'm so glad that we found Magee's on a holiday, as it was a superb and unique dining experience. Located amid Ankeny's District area, parking is no issue, and they offer both inside and outside seating. The interior is a great dining/bar with a cool vibe, while the outdoor area is more casual and well-shaded. We chose to sit outside and had a great server in Cortney, who guided us throughout the meal, offering terrific suggestions from their menu that we acted on. We loved the Reuben eggrolls, a tasty combination of corned beef brisket that lasted only a short time on the table--adding that to the checklist for our next visit! My Tipperary Irish Stew was fantastic as a main course, a superb meshing of lamb, filet, veggies, and herbs served with delicious mashed potatoes. It was presented well on a skillet and tasted even better than anticipated. I am looking forward to exploring Magee's menu more!!

I went out for a night cap with my cousin. She recommended this place. Nice restaurant and huge bar on the wall. Whiskey selection mostly. We sat at the bar to see what kind of drink options were available. Bartender gave us his opinion on a few scotch I had in mind. I went with Johnny Walker green. I didn't realize how late it got, we were so busy talking. Someone in the bar ordered pizza and offered to everyone there. The Bartender gave us a plastic plate for pizza. I would go back for lunch or dinner next time.

I like the cozy feeling of this place during colder temps. It also has great space for a private event. Likes: beer and whiskey/scotch menu, Irish food offerings, great kids menu, ambiance Improvements: to play only Irish music, serve bread warm, brussel sprout salad hardly had brussel sprouts.

Really enjoyed our experience at Magees for the first time. We ate for Mother's Day dinner, it was a seat yourself at the door. Our waitress came right away, it was a great pace and she was very attentive. Our kids both had the chicken tenders and fries from the kids menu. I tried the salmon which was very flavorful. We had the asparagus fries as an app, they were really good as well. The restaurant was busy but but not overly crowded which was nice it wasn't to loud and the atmosphere was nice. Not a place I'd frequent every time, as I do think the menu is a bit pricey but great for a special occasion dinner.

We went to Magee's for a private party and loved the Irish vibe of this bar. The party food (sliders, scotch eggs, boneless wings) were all good and the beer was cold. Its also located in the entertainment district so lots of shops and other restaurants bars to walk to in the area. Loved the street musician playing outside.

4.33* (out of 5) Food: n/a Atmosphere: 5* Value: 4* Service: 4* 06/25/2022 Had some time while in the area and this place looked interesting, so my wife and I stopped by to have a Harp and a Guiness. We sat at a table outside to enjoy the summer warmth. We had just eaten, so will have to stop by for a meal on another day. The exterior was very inviting (see pictures), the beer selection was good and the bar looked great (see picture). I recommend a stop to whet your whistle...and the food looks great also! Came here for lunch and I ordered Salmon BLT with fries and Ice tea. Food was good and ice tea was okay, nothing special. Server came by few times but we didn't have a chance to hold her while we are eating because she seemed busy and left us very quick without any conversation. My husband couldn't order a beer because of that. (Obviously, he can't talk with mouth full. ) Server came by for a check and handed us electronic payment device which already had a default setting of 23% tip. I would you to suggest bring cash :)

Carter was an awesome bartender. Very strong pours, but the drinks were absolutely delicious. The boneless wings were served with the sauce on the side, which I thought was odd. Figured they would be tossed like most places. The buffalo sauce itself was spicy and not overly-vinegary. This is not the place for large groups to take numerous shots and to "party". This is a place with a quiet ambiance to relax and enjoy good quality drinks.

Second time here and it was great once again. Had the seafood soup and the Belfast Reuben! Oh and a black and tan to wash it down. The service was pleasant attentive. Prompt as well. I love the feel of the Irish pub!

The wife and I wanted to grab a couple beers and had a free beer from Magee's on pub pass so we stopped in for a couple. They had NFL games on at a reasonable volume so that was a bonus. The bartender was friendly and made my wife an espresso martini and it was delicious. They have a descent beer selection. I tried their wheat beer but I didn't like it. I do like their hazy ipa though so I had 2 of those. My wife also had the beer of the month- leinenkugels toasted bock. Then we got hungry so we tried the Guinness dip -a reuben cheese dip with flatbread (pic attached) it was very good!

It occurred to me that even though I am of Irish decent, I know nothing of Irish cuisine.  My knowledge of anything Irish is pretty much limited to green beer on St Patrick's day, Conner McGregor, shamrocks, frosted lucky charms, Irish whiskey and Guinness.  Of course I've had corn beef and cabbage but I have no idea if it originated in Ireland and I'm too lazy to do the research. It's one of those dishes though that I have every St Patricks day and I can't tell you why because it's so damn delicious. I should make it more often. I was on a mission for a reason I can't remember.  Somehow Scottish eggs and bangers and mash were stuck in my head. I don't remember watching any video's about either of those at 2AM on YouTube which pretty much sums up my nights as of late.  I can't sleep even though I need it badly especially with my current state of health.  I take enough drugs already.  I dont want to take another on to help me sleep. "We're going out.  Wash your nasty ass, doll yourself up and let's go" Didn't take her long to get herself ready.  I have found that over the years your wait time on a woman can be greatly if food is involved and she is hungry.  In other words, if you value your time, stop feeding her so much.   Magee's is locate in the District area of Ankeny.  The district itself is a bit to hipster for me but I was able look past it.  The whole are was packed, but after finally finding a parking spot somewhat close, there was a short walk to Magee's.  Lots of folks walking around the area a it was a nice night and lots of folks standing out in front of Magee's.  "Looks like there is going to be a wait but, I don't want to go anywhere else so whatever it is is fine." Walking through the door, we were immediately seated  and approached by our waitress within seconds to get our drink orders.   While she scoured the menu trying to figure out what she wanted, I went ahead and ordered the Scotch eggs.  I wish I had got the name of our server because she was amazing.  She took our order's. Bangers and Mash, Corn Beef and Cabbage. I knew that she was going to order the corned beef because she was familiar with corned beef so it was the safe choice. The eggs arrived.  Not sure what I was expecting.  They were very good and even had a bit of spice to them.  I kind thought that they would have more sausage wrapped around them but I also have nothing to compare them to.  They were delicious. The Bangers and Mash were just that.  3 sausages on a bed of mashed potatoes with some, I believe, onion gravy.  The sausages, Irish herbed banger sausages were not the same as what is wrapped around the eggs, at least I don't believe them to be.  These were the most tender sausages that I have ever had and delicious.  Not much snap when biting into them but maybe that's the way it's supposed to be.  Again, I have nothing to compare to.  A great plate all around. The corn beef that I was allowed to taste was moist and delicious.   Magee's is just a great place.   Great food.  Great atmosphere. Great service.   Looking forward to going back and trying some of their other options.

Very good food & service. The music was nice and not loud enough to make conversation a problem. The server was friendly but not intrusive.

Out of town for the weekend and looking fot someplace new and unique to dine. We hot the jackpot. Such a cool venue. Felt like I was in an Irish pub. We were excited to try some different beers and while the selection wasn't large. They had some real European style gems. If you're a whiskey fan. This is definitely the place! They had a large selection of whiskeys in all proce ranges. The place was packed, but our waiter was freaking despite running like a mad man. We started with the rueben egg rolls. They were tasty. I personally thought the rice paper wrappers were a little light fir the filling and may have enjoyed an eggroll type wrapper more. Now onto the star of the show. We ordered both the seafood chowder and Irish stew. The Irish stew was one of the best, if not the best soup I've ever had! A hearty soup with tons of flavor. I had the Irish breakfast which was good. A friend had fish and chops which was very good. We were having fun watching all the food come put and all of it looked amazing. Yes I will bebdriving 100 miles to come back here.

I'm so excited to try this
