The pub was pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon at 2pm. They have an outdoor seating area. The pub is decorated with British signs and posters. The service was very good for how busy it was inside and out. The food was delicious! We had the cod & chips (added coleslaw) and the German platter (a bratwurst, weisswurst, pork schnitzel, mashed potatoes & gravy, red cabbage and sauerkraut). Packed house on Summer Friday night at 8:30 but still able to find a seat quickly! Stephanie brought us some menus and told us about the restaurant. We ordered the Bangers N Mash and the Fish and Chips and we loved both! The tartar sauce was the best I've ever tried!!!! Also tried the Orange push pop and a cider that we liked. Good vibes. I wanted to love this place. I really did. The atmosphere is a perfect combo of British style pub and Midwest bar and grill. The wide availability of British goods for purchase/take home (teas, sauces, biscuits etc) is adorable. The service was first class. The UK beer choices were wonderful despite not having Speckled hen available. I was torn between the fish and chips and the pork vindaloo having been a fan of across the pond fare for decades. I opted for the former. While the chips were perfect and the curry sauce second to none, midway through the meal I realized why I didn't love the fish. The batter. On advice of other reviewers I ordered the dish crispy and I think that helped but I finally realized not only did I not love the fish-the batter made me hate it. I finished the latter half inside out if you will and that made it acceptable. Maybe the vindaloo will turn my opinion but in inquiry I was told it was a medium hot-which in the Midwest typically means mild. Maybe next time. read more

We were happy to find this place! It is a very fun vibe. If we did not have 3 hr drive ahead we would have enjoyed trying some of the many many unique beer offerings! What an unexpected gem. Not a large space and very popular. There is a nice outdoor space and sometimes live music! Cool imported sodas, beer, cider, mead.... Wow. And then there is the food. Solid. Delicious. Fish and chips, Shepard pie, some curry. So much more! The whole place is an homage to all things British. Okkkkkk excellent fish and chips. TBH I have no idea what "real" English fish and chips are supposed to be like, but these were 10/10 in my book. Huge portion of fish well-coated in crispy batter with thick, salty fries (doused in malt vinegar, of course). The staff were very friendly and the decor was pretty spot on as far English pub decor goes, per my friend who has been there. I loved how they had English food items for sales (Heinz beans, canned mushy peas). It definitely had a grungy vibe to it, maybe a little too much to be completely comfortable. read more

My daughter and I popped in while visiting ISU. It is an excellent hole in the wall that we'll definitely go back to. We sat at the bar and the staff and locals were very friendly and made recommendations. Our food was great and the portions were generous. Get here early as this place is busy. read more

Brought another couple and it was karaoke night. Outside was packed, but we were there for nice quiet meal inside. We enjoyed the fish and chips very much. So disappointed tonight. I've been coming here once a month, when I'm in Ames, for the past 3 yrs. Ordered a cocktail the waitress told me that they haven't been able to get a certain gin for 3 months. I had the same cocktail in here the last 2 months I've been here.? Ordered the special; a soup that was watered down. Found out later it was the special for the last 3 days. This place is hit or miss. We love their Fish and Chips! You can order the fish extra crispy. Be sure to go hungry because their portions are huge. Great atmosphere too. It's not a huge place but we've never had any trouble getting a table. They also stay open later than most restaurants read more

Found a new place to eat in Ames, and it was such a fun and unique food experience. It's a British pub, so its menu isn't your typical one, and our server did a fabulous job informing us of what they entailed since many were a bit out of the usual options. I loved the interior. Plenty of outside parking. Had some tasty, non-caffeinated tea, followed by a tasty chicken and bacon sandwich that was yummy. My way significant other shared her pasty dinner choice and it was darn good. Loved their fries. But, I have to add that the best element was their fabulous music throughout our 90-minute stay. It was an amazing collection of the 60s and 70s hits ranging from The Stones to Janis Joplin to the Moody Blues. I loved it, was seat dancing throughout! Whoever picked the music needs to post a Spotify playlist. Absolutely no doubt that I will return here, and next time it's the fish n chips! Or, maybe the bangers and mash. Service was excellent. I had a very attentive server who kept checking in on me and refilled my drink without me having to ask. I love when servers do that. The food was very good. I ordered the German Platter, which comes with two types of sausage, red cabbage, mashed potatoes and gravy, sauerkraut, and pork schnitzel, all for $15. The schnitzel was a nice piece of pork, breaded and fried perfectly. Red cabbage was tangy and had great flavor. One of the sausages was more "smoked" than the other, but both complemented each other well. When I asked my server for a better mustard than what was on the table, she happily obliged by bringing me a cup of Colman's--a true British product. It had good heat, but a more pronounced flavor than Chinese mustard. She also said it would be no problem bringing more. They also have other British items, such as HP Sauce and Heinz Baked Beans. Highly recommend this place; I don't give out a ton of fives. read more

My husband and I came here for lunch last week and loved the pub fries. As close to being in London as you can get.

I had my apprehensions about ordering vindaloo here but it was as good as one might get in London herself. Robust, tender meat, maybe a scooch more heat would have put over the top! Fish and chips were solid. Great atmosphere, friendly but inefficient service. Very good beer selection. I will definitely try and get back here next time in Ames. read more
