I went for a retouch of my hair and Shaheen did such a wonderful job with the blending. I'm someone that does non bleach, leaning for a darker balayage than the typical lighter colored one and Shaheen always does an exceptional job. Owner is really greedy . I came for blow dry she said $45. I was waiting in the waiting area for my turn there was an Indian woman with thick hair who got a blow dry and went to pay.the owner said $35 for her. I asked her why is she charging me $45 she said my hair is thick. No it was because she was Indian and I was white. She charges customers who are not Indian way more by $15-20 dollars beware !! read more

Yaay!, Mahrose reopened today, the first day of Illinois' Phase 3 Reopening.  They have been my barber for the past couple of years and I guess I didn't waste a day to get back in.  See the accompanying photo for their current pandemic business protocol.  The wait wasn't as bad as I thought it could be for a barber shop, and there were 6 ladies and a couple of men, myself included and I only had to wait for 1 customer at 6pm on a Friday.  Lots of ladies' eyebrow work while I was there apparently.  I've been happy with the various barbers here, their past bargain-basement $5 men's haircut prices, and I'm not a tough customer.  The current men's haircut price has just been raised from $5 to $8, but c'mon, who's complaining, and like all brick-and-mortar businesses, there's a lot of catching up to do if at all possible, so more power to 'em and I'm happy to support them. Besides, I'm very happy I don't have to trim my own hair anymore which I had to do a couple of times for the first time ever just to be comfortable.  I thought I did a decent job on the irritating sides and back corners, but I don't know how anyone does their back hairline on their own.  I thought the back looked decent, but as the wife said it looked terrible and even though she exaggerates sometimes, I thought I shouldn't wait long to get back to the pros, so thank you for being back Mahrose Salon! read more

I went in for a permanent burgundy highlights. after just 1 wash, my hair highlights turned gokden and brown washing away all the burgundy color that was done. I am very disappointed on how the stylist didn't tell me that she's using a temporary hair dye for my highlights. it's just a waste of my precious time and money just to watch my hair back to the color they were before with each wash. read more

I am giving this review only on false lashes... I have been coming to this place for about a decade and love the work with eyebrows....lashes not so good. Please please listen stay away... the lashes were done improper by being glued to my skin and then it wasn't individuals she was just adding pieces to save time I guess. She glued my skin to something and was pulling to get it fee... I was left with a ball of massive glue which I had to go home oil really well to have my husband remove with tweezers and it was still painful. She doesn't have the knowledge or experience and I don't want anyone to deal with what I had to deal with. It was an hour and 15 mins with her not doing it right and telling me to return Tuesday ( appt was on Sunday) to have the glue pile up removed. I ran out frustrated and upset. read more

Love this place! The price ($5) and quality of the threading is perfect for me. I've been coming here for months, probably over a year. The wait can be long but I don't mind. Unless I do, then I just come back another time. All the ladies are very nice and do a good job threading my brows. After threading, they ask if you want lotion. Having sensitive skin, the lotion soothes my skin and lessens the redness. They also massage your head a bit when applying the lotion and that's always a plus! read more

If you have an eternity of time to wait for haircut come here. Understaffed and they don't value your time. I have been sitting waiting here for a haircut for more than 30 minutes but still no luck. Better pay more and find better place which value your time and presence. read more

Mahrose is great! I've been going to Pinky for about six years now and I only trust her to do my eyebrows. She does my daughter's as well. She is professional, friendly, and incredibly hard working. I also take my mom there for a haircut and style. She will go in cranky but leave all smiles. The staff is very patient and calm with her. Overall great place with excellent customer service. She always considers how I want my hair to be as well as recommends and suggests what will be good for my hair type. Before Mahrose, I would travel a good 30 minutes to just get my eyebrows threaded in Skokie. Now that I have found a place closer to home, I save gas and time! The staff is also really nice and they get the job done as best as they can. They would always ask if you would like lotion after they are done with your eyebrows... take it! They would apply lotion to the area they worked on and give a short massage with a rose scented lotion. (Now if you dislike that smell, or have sensitive skin, like me, think about it-- I love getting it, but sometimes I would have a slight breakout because of my sensitive skin.) I know some places raised their prices to $6 for eyebrows, but this place keeps it at the even $5 price. They offer threaded for other areas of the face, as well as $5 haircuts and henna at different prices (depending on size). Also, in the backroom they offer body waxes (which I haven't tried--yet). The service is also fast, and the wait isn't bad at all (I guess depending on day and time). But I usually have no need to wait too long and would be in and out for an eyebrow threading within 5-15 minutes! The only reason I didn't give a full Five Stars is just because they just drop the thread to the floor when they're done. It's not a totally bad thing-- I'm pretty sure they clean the floor everyday, but I have walked away with string on the bottom of my shoes once. I'm pretty sure I'll be going here for years, there's no other place I would go to. =) read more

I used to go to Saba's before and I always got cut up and she would be talking on the phone while doing my eyebrows. They never ended up that great but I felt like I didn't really have that many other options. When Mahrose opened, I thought I would go give it a try. They are great!! The staff here is very nice and there are three people specifically that I wait for to get my eyebrows done. You have to make sure to get there early enough in the day or be willing to wait. After you get your eyebrows threaded, they even put lotion on to decrease redness (which always happens to me), so that's always a nice touch.They have such excellent customer service that even when I go back to them like 6 months later (because I currently live in Denver for school), they remember me and ask me about school and life in general. I've had more good experiences than bad. I only come here for eyebrow threading and they do a pretty good job. If you get a chance, ask for Pinky, she always gets it right. The service however, leaves something to be desired. If you ever see more than 3 people waiting just walk out and come back later! They have a horrible habit of saying 5 minutes when they actually mean 35. I don't think they realize that frustrating their customers is what will actually hurt business. I don't trust many people with my eyebrows and I'd rather wait 10 mins than end up having to sharpie my eyebrows in. read more

For a brown place ( indian/paki/bangladeshi), i am definitely dissapointed. She did not know how to use the thread as well as the Indian places i normally go to. If you are brown and are used to getting your eyebrows done at devon then you will definitely notice the difference. If you have been cursed with a lot of facial hair ( like me), then maybe this is not the best place. But dont get me wrong, it WILL get the job done for a reasonable rate, but in my opinion it was very shabby. Also, most brown places u go to are slightly unprofessional in terms of speaking in hindi/urdu all the time.. so i guess im kinda used to it. But, if you can find another place locally, i suggest go ahead and try. If you do not have must removal to be done, then this place is not bad.. just didnt work out for me :-/ read more

Sadia always has me satisfied with my haircut and eyebrows every time. she's very consistent and attention to detail when cutting. After an unfortunate incident in high school in which I over-plucked a chunk of my left eyebrow and it took nearly a year to grow back, I prefer to leave my brows to the professionals. I discovered this place when I complemented a girl I was taking a class with on her eyebrows three years ago (I know it's a weird complement, but they were that beautiful). One day I decided to go and I have been a loyal customer ever since. Threading is basically the love child between waxing and plucking. It does hurt, but definitely yields the best results. For $9 (before tip) you can get your eyebrows done, your upper lip waxed/threaded, and a nice little face massage at the end. Considering that you will spend more than that just to have your eyebrows waxed at most places, this is a steal. read more
