Went for the AYCE sushi on. Atuesday at 5 pm. We had a large party of ~12 people that they were able to accomodate last minute. It was $50 per person, which is pretty pricey but the sushi was good quality. Service was good (got slower as the evening went on) and ambiance was also great. Location was super convenient right in coolidge corner.
Fantastic service! There were only 2 servers and they worked together to make sure every wish/need was met! My straw and chopsticks wrappers disappeared moments after they were removed. If I looked up, someone was at my table to ask if I needed anything. I've never been treated do well! And, there were other customers and tables to care for. Ordered sushi and sashimi and mango sticky rice. The fish was fresh and the sashimi was the thickest slices I've ever had! So good. The sauce for the mango sticky rice was weirdly salty, though. I would definitely go back!
The AYCE review! So it's April 2026 and right now Maguro is still running this all you can eat menu on Monday and Tuesday. You have a choice between a standard menu of items for $40 or a premium menu (includes standard) for $80. The $40 AYCE menu is pretty awesome. Alot of sushi and Thai options. Good selection of nigiri or sashimi. The basics of salmon, tuna, shrimp and all of your standard sushi options. Also includes various sushi rolls. You can get appetizers like gyoza and edamame even. . This menu also has Thai dishes like pad thai Of course had to try the premium which includes Otoro, uni and wagyu as the highlights. There are some upgraded appetizers and rolls also in this menu. Unfortunately, but understandably, uni is limited to 4 per person. No limits on the other items. The otoro and uni were excellent. Same for the wagyu and salmon. Mixed in some pieces of sweet shrimp, scallop, lean tuna and more just to round out the meal. I ate 40 pieces of sushi. Which more or less is $2.50 per piece after including a tip and tax. Was it worth it? I can probably say the for $80 you can get a ton of great sushi. They definitely don't downgrade the quality for the deal. Could I do this weekly? Probably not. I left so full. The $80 menu kind of compelled me to order more than I might eat normally. The$40 meal includes dishes like pad thai anyway so I think i could go back and do a sushi pregame and finish with some Thai food. That $40 is definitely worth it. Anyway, you should try this deal once before it goes. I don't think it's permanent. $80 for the premium is only worth it if you love Uni and otoro. Service was great. The inside was busy. The deal is popular. The inside of the place is warm and inviting even while packed.
Maguro in Brookline is a great restaurant to go to if you enjoy both Japanese & Thai food! They offer BOTH & I've never had a bad experience dining here. Extensive menu and just starting this week, they're running a new, limited time all-you-can-eat (AYCE) menu Monday-Wednesday, from open to close! They have two AYCE options: standard $39.99 & Wagyu premium $69.99. We were very tempted to try the Wagyu premium but ended up doing the standard menu. In my opinion, the standard menu is a great deal! I've been to a few sushi AYCE spots recently & honestly, the quality of fish has gone down drastically for many places. Now, ~$40/pp is the average going price for AYCE... for pretty mediocre food. BUT, the meal I had at Maguro for AYCE last night was awesome! All the fish we ordered was very fresh & the cooked dishes we got had great flavor. I've been here many times before so I have an idea of what their food looks & tastes like, and they did not skimp at all. I'm definitely already looking forward to trying the Wagyu premium menu soon, as it includes some of my favorites such as otoro, Wagyu, and uni! Highly recommend coming here for delicious Japanese & Thai food ;) Parking: meter street parking Also, train accessible & right across the street from Coolidge Corner Green line (C) stop!
I tried this place recently and unfortunately I was pretty disappointed. The Maguro Don was too pretty small in my opinion, and it looks way bigger in the picture. I'm fine with paying a bit more when I order raw fish, but I at least hope to be full by the end of the meal, and I honestly wasn't. Next off the service was super slow, which I can be fine with if that's the only issue, but as noted above, it wasn't. It was nearly half an hour before I even got water, so of course I was also ready to order by then. Overall this was just a pretty disappointing meal here
Limited time AYCE menu. Two tiers ($40/70) We opted for the $40 this go around on their new limited time AYCE menu! Must say this was worth it. Plates come out quickly. Sashimi included which is our favorite. Now if you wanted a5 wagyu don or wagyu nigiri, Otoro etc you'd need to upgrade to the $70 per person premium tier. We definitely had our fill today. Grabbed a lot of sashimi- fresh and chunky! Their fries with the bonito flakes was fire. drunken noodles with shrimp was tasty, could have liked a bit of heat and less bamboo shoots but it was good! The fried shrimp shumai is as expected with a yummy dipping sauce! Salted edamame to end the meal. Miso soup to cleanse the palate. Need to go back for the $70 tier and get a bunch of other wagyu and otoro dishes. But honestly i was happy with the $40 tier. Ample space for a group, couple or family meal!
Came here on a Tuesday night for the AYCE menu and I really wanted to give this a 5 but they still need to get some of their systems in place to handle AYCE volume. That being said, they only started AYCE on Monday/Tuesday this month, so it's still very new. I arrived at 6:00pm and was told that the wait was an hour. There's not a great area for waiting and people started crowding by the entrance to the restaurant, so we found a bench outside and waited. Inside the restaurant was just so hectic with people standing around waiting for a table, delivery drivers coming in every few minutes, and the lack of an official waiting area. We were seated at around 6:40 so it wasn't that bad of a wait. That being said, when we were seated, we noticed a couple next to us who had been seated about 30 minutes prior without any food in front of them, so we were quick to get our first orders in. Still, we waited 30 minutes for the food to arrive, and we never actually received some of the items we ordered (missing a miso soup, a spicy tuna roll, and a spicy salmon roll). We did get our sashimi and nigiri though, which was really great quality. The sashimi (salmon, yellowtail, and tuna) was really nicely thickly cut and very fresh. It was probably the best sashimi we've had at an AYCE place. The nigiri was also good (squid, salmon, tuna, yellowtail, smoked salmon, octopus), and the ratio of rice to fish was great. We could tell the staff was being pushed so we didn't complain about the missing soup and two rolls. Instead, in our 2nd order, we got the spicy tuna again as well as some sashimi and nigiri again. This time, it only took about 20 minutes for the food to come out. The nigiri and sashimi was great as before, but we weren't a huge fan of the spicy tuna - normally we like when it comes with tempura flakes with the minced fish but this was just tuna with hot sauce mixed in. I didn't taste any mayonnaise or tempura, but it wasn't too bad. For our last order (not pictured) we ordered a chashu bowl and the portion size was HUGE. There was so much rice in it, and it took both of us to finish the bowl. The meat was nice and smoky, but it was just so filling that we couldn't order anything after that - I think it was a full dinner portion. All in all, it was a little hectic and the staff looked really overworked so wait times were a bit higher than we'd like, but the staff was still really nice despite running around so much. I really hope management develops a better system for things to give their staff some wiggle room, but there is definitely some room for process improvement. Still, the quality of the food being served is great and we'd definitely come back in a month or two once things settle down!
Fresh and not too expensive. The vegetarian plate was really tasty and a great variety and value.
I was in town for a family event and we heard about how great the restaurant was. My parents got bowls of ramen but I was seriously craving sushi. I ordered two spicy tuna rolls, a salmon avocado roll, and edamame to start. The sushi was great and although the spicy tuna rolls could have been creamier, they were still really good. I had a diet coke to go with my meal and my dad ordered sake. My parents loved their meals as well though I feel like I should have also gone with the Ramen as well. To be honest everything on the menu looked really good so it was pretty hard to choose what we wanted. We did end up ordering a lot of food because we were starving but we loved everything that we ordered.
The menu is quite impressively extensive at this izakaya, with everything from sushi to ramen to Thai! I've ordered something different each time, and I'm sure I'll be able to find many great dishes without even needing to repeat one. The restaurant itself is classy, though not too high-end to be prohibitively expensive. The unagi avocado roll is inexpensive and surprisingly filling for a small "classic" roll. I can down pretty significant quantities of sushi, but I was surprisingly full after this meal! I've also previously ordered the sashimi deluxe, which is enjoyable for good-quality fish served in a beautiful wooden box. Service is quick and the food didn't take long to come out, though it was a bit slower with a large party.
Disappointing. Sushi was stingy. Small fish to rice ratio. Pad Thai was not cooked enough, had hardly any eggs and very few shrimps. Will not be coming back.
This place markets itself as Japanese / Thai fusion , but the quality of the fish is cheap. Most of the high ratings seem to come from people who simply don't have much to compare it to. First off, the restaurant is clearly owned and operated by Fuzhou-style Chinese staff and chefs. It feels like just another spot targeting non-Asian customers who may not recognize the difference. I ordered a sushi don, a sushi platter, and basil fried rice. The basil fried rice was especially disappointing. It was wet and soaked in sauce. Authentic basil fried rice should have the basil deep-fried first to release its aroma, then stir-fried with the rice. This was nowhere close. I'm so mad I don't have their basil fry rice to show. As for the sushi, the fish quality was on par with low-end buffet sushi--maybe slightly better, but not by much. Overall, this restaurant failed to properly represent any Asian cuisine, whether Chinese, Japanese, or Thai. This was a total disappointment.
Pictures can be so deceiving. The rating is 2.5 stars!!! The pics of my dinner looked pretty decent. But taste wise, it was boarder line an average. Maguro omakase A: Chu toro sashimi: small but thick slices, tasted pretty good. Chu toro sushi were good. They were garnished with peppered yuzi The tuna truffle oil maki was nice too! However the maguro aka tuna didn't taste or look fresh. It was an odd dull red colored ... Shrimp temp maki was delicious, nice crunchy texture with asparagus inside! Appetizer: fried fish snacks ( forget the name) but they were great Torched salmon toro sushi came with three nigiri in an order. They were just ok... Ikura and quill egg ... too much rice and not much Ikura!!! Ikura were not marinated so tasted ok... Miso soup was just lukewarm?! The jumbo nigiri set: sweet shrimps and scallops were the better ones! The biggest mistake in this was the rice ratio!!! Tooo much rice and even the sashimi was big ... the ratio is still off!!! Also the sushi rice was not seasoned well and a bit mushy! Service was below average. Staff were friendly. Took us a lot time to place our order although we were the only one there at that time. And took a long time to get notice to pay our bill too.
The vibes and art are very creative and chill -- very vibrant! Great and quick service as well, but it was emptier on a Sunday anyways so probably a good time to come by. Personally wouldn't do take out from here since I don't think it tastes as good compared to eating it fresh when dining in. Ramen was okay but we really enjoyed the torched salmon toro!!! All in all, a decent place in Coolidge corner. read more
Ok y'all. Let me tell you about the best life hack I've encountered. UberEats + Maguro pad thai. Maguro somehow always has a buy 1 get 1 promo on UberEats, and sometimes UberEats gives you a 40% entire order promo. When this happens, I'll be able to get two of their pad Thais for only $16! I've tried both their chicken and tofu options and both are amazing. Very generous portions too and reheats well from the fridge. I can't say much about the interior as I've only ever ordered delivery, but Maguro gets an A+ in my book. read more

I tried their lunch special today. I found it on Google that they do lunch special and I decided to try. When I got there I first checked out their lunch special menu. The server said it is dine-in only. It is $15.95 + tax + tip for three courses meal. The menu of lunch special includes two starters (a soup or salad and small snacks (4 pieces of maki of choice or chicken karage etc.))and a main course (choice of ramen/thai stir fried/rice don etc.) There were plenty of choices to choose from. I was debating between eel don or Tonkotsu ramen. I ended up getting Tonkotsu ramen ramen, chicken karage and coconut soup. The restaurant has about 16 tables and a sushi bar area. The server sat me right away. Once I am ready to order she came to take my order and gave me water after. I waited about 8 minutes-ish to get my starters. The coconut soup is surprisingly good. I usually don't like anything coconut but decided to try it anyway since I'm not a fan of Tom Yum soup. There are good amount of chicken and mushrooms inside the coconut soup. The chicken pieces are tender soaked up the flavor of the coconut soup. The chicken karage is the best dish of all three items. The chicken was juicy and tender. It was cooked perfectly. I was a little disappointed at the ramen. The soup wasn't hot. It was has no bone soup flavor but heavy on sesame oil. Overall I give it a 10/15 4/5 star on the service 3/5 on food 3/5 on ambiance I think I'll go back to try the Eel Don next time read more
Very cute restaurant with very good food. I was there on a Tuesday night. Upbeat music with dimmed lighting. Comfortable seats. I had a miso soup with the Pad Paradise. It was fresh and tasty. I didn't noticed that it is a BYOB. I recommend the place. read more
Solid sushi place in Brookline! Their Yakitoris were okay, I'd skip the salmon one but their chicken skin yakitori was much better. Chirashi Don had plenty of sashimi and rice for two (in case you want to share). Their rolls were good, but not mind blowingly delicious. Service was good, our waitress always made sure we had plenty of water & everything came out pretty quickly. The only reason I docked a point is because there's nothing special about the sushi. It's decent but you've probably had better elsewhere. read more
I came for the soft opening with a friend and this was the perfect casual spot to go for a quick bite and to chill over drinks. Despite it being an Izakaya I don't believe they had any alcohol for the soft opening or at least there wasn't any listed on the menu. The skewers come in twos so that's convenient for sharing but I'd say they honestly skippable and weren't worth the cost except for the chicken skin ones. For an appetizer the Maguro Cubes were perfect and tasted light and refreshing with the flavor of the perilla leaf permeating onto each bite. I also recommend getting the Chirashi Bowl over the rolls if you're a sushi lover. It's better bang for your buck and is overall extremely fresh, delicious and offers enough variety of flavors to keep your interest. Definitely a spot worth checking out at least once! read more

Maguro always hits the spot! Super busy on a Friday night, busier than I'd ever seen it before. I'm glad the community is giving it the love it deserves! Highly recommend any of the rolls or thai dishes! Yum. And of course hamachi kama is a must! The char on it is so good. Kudos to the servers always. They look so busy but still have such good attitudes! read more
Got the pad Thai through Uber eats and overall it was decent. A bit too greasy and salty in my opinion but it hit the spot and satisfied my cravings. This was part of a buy 1 get 1 free deal so the price was great but I think I would also be willing to pay full price given the substantial portion size and plentiful amount of shrimp. They seem to have a huge menu so I look forward to trying more of the items they offer! read more
I ordered Maguro from UberEats because they were running a buy one, get one free special for the spicy tuna roll and Pad Thai. What a great deal! The spicy tuna roll was delicious. Some places add too much mayo or crunchy stuff to cover up the subpar fish, but Maguro did it right. The tuna had the perfect dark pink flavor and totally hit the spot. I think they forgot to add the spicy mayo, though, but since the quality of the fish was great, I didn't mind. The Pad Thai was also really tasty and the portion size was pretty substantial. They added plenty of nuts and there was a good ratio of chicken to noodles. It's pretty unusual to find a place that can do all sorts of Asian dishes well. Looks like I've found one of those spots! Hoping to go to the restaurant in person next time. read more

Disclaimer: we were lazy and decided to order in via Uber eats. 90 mintes late for delivery. That said, the pad thai was the worst I've ever had. Noodle were dry, beef was flavourless and everything was lukewarm. The sushi, salmon avocado was passable with the most lenient grading scale. I would easily grade this 1 star, but uber eats has a hand in this debacle... so 2 stars. If your food is better in person, you should ban uber eats from working with your restaurant. They will bakrupt you. This should be featured on Gordon Ramsy's Hell Kitchen. Ughhhh get the pepto bismol read more
A surprising Thai find in center Coolidge corner. Buy a phone at At&T, complain about your charges, walk into the adjacent Maguro and eat. It's a bifurcated mind-- Japanese and sushi, or Thai. We took the latter, in thai takeout. flat noodles, green curry etc, all in the figure caption. i might skip the avocado spring rolls. but i'd readily re-order all else. definitely many cuts above the tinned sauce thai that plagues most-speed thai places, meh. some good complexity in the red curry. i'd dig deeper into the curries next read more

Fairly new spot and glad I tried it. I was skeptical at first since places that offer various cuisines tend to disappoint me but everything tasted great and I am excited to try more. What we ordered: Yellowtail carpaccio: very fresh, I was not totally sold on the sriracha on the fish but it's fine, still tasted good! Eel sushi: nothing special, tasted good Caterpillar roll: very little eel in it but made well. Sweet potato roll: kind of like 2 sweet potato fries rolled into sushi - very crispy and tasty Pad c u - lots of veggies and crispy chicken. The chicken was SO tender which impressed me. The noodles however are extremely salty. Still yummy though! Thai ice tea- pretty standard and sweet. Could have more Thai tea flavor but that's just personal preference. Some notes: - not a huge fan of their specialty roll offerings. Many of them have cream cheese in it which isn't for me but if you like that, great! - definitely closer to the expensive side. Each specialty roll ranged from $18 to $22. I'm going to guess and attribute it to the fact they have really high rent on beacon st?? I can't wait to come back and try their ramen and Izakaya dishes! read more

Came in once and ordered takeout once. The service was good, nothing out of the ordinary. The sashimi and shrimp tempura was also good and however the spicy tuna maki was not. It was mostly crunch and sauce so that was disappointing. read more
Really nice location in terms of access to the T and also plenty of metered parking. Ramen 4/5 - Ok, so I had my doubts of ordering this outside of ramen specialty places like Yume Wo or Santouka but I held my expectations in check and hoped for the best. Now, I was very pleasantly surprised by Maguro's quality. Everything about this ramen bowl was done right (besides ok soup base but I gave them leeway cause they were not a specialty ramen shop). The ingredients were good quality and correct in the traditional sense. The noodles were done perfectly el dente. The char sui was perfectly portioned with the right fat to meat ratio, well marinated and freshly torched to leave that lingering char taste on your tongue. The egg was well marinated and tasted just right balance of soy and sake/mirin. The yoke was slightly runny and presentation was good. Overall, must order to try. Hamachi kama 4.5/5 - Slightly overdone but was very well made and the amount of meat that was on this fish neck portion was amazing. I've been to places where the meat was stringy and barely able to eat much of but Maguro came through with a very meaty portion and well flavored. Sabe Sushi and Yellowtail roll - 3.5/5 Good quality mackerel and yellowtail, was on point and would have been a solid 4.5/5 but the biggest downfall was the sushi rice. It was cold and bit hard meaning that it wasn't fresh warm sushi rice but might have been leftover sushi rice. Hotate 4/5 - Very well done and presented. All the hallmark's of a Hotate except the sauce was a bit too sweet. Other than that, it has the scallop and imitation crab meat, shrimp throughout. Bubbly hotness and they lit the sterno. Okonomiyaki fries. 4.5/5 - Eventhough this seems like a simple toss of okonomiyaki toppings on french fries, this was delicious for me and satisfied that hunger for salty fried goodness. They had all the right ingredients for topping like nori and bonito flakes, okonomiyaki sauce and mayo. It came hot and fresh and the bontio flakes were still fluttering from the hot steam coming off the fries. And these were the above average fries that is bit thicker with crusty coating. Service 4.5/5: The ambiance is very modern with fresh decor and definitely awesome for groups or dates. Everything is clean and service was phenomenal. Waitress attentive and was very thoughtful bringing us extra napkins and also when I asked for bowl to share the ramen with my wife, she actually brought two bowls with sets of utensils for each where normally I've been to places where they would only bother with one set. Overall will definitely come again. read more
Came on a Sunday around 3pm so there was no wait. Even though they just recently opened, we did not feel like the service nor food were lacking. Great service throughout our meal. Food came out quickly. The soft shell crab and hotate kayaki had the honey mayo sauce which was delicious (if you like a hint of sweetness in your sauce). The miso ramen was good, light and not too salty but the char siu (pork) was thick and chewy. The sushi were very fresh. The torched salmon Toro melts in your mouth. We also got the ikura, looked so fresh, we ate it before had a chance to take a picture. If you like sushi, they have a decent variety and can't go wrong. The yakitori was ok. Not much flavor and did not get that "grilled" taste. But will be back to try the other yakitori like the chicken skin and also other sushi items! read more
Solid 3 stars. Stopped here for lunch at noon on a Saturday and the place was empty. They had a few take out orders, but very few patrons dining in. Service was prompt and efficient. We ordered the salmon sushi Al la cart, salmon roll, beef noodle soup, and the drunken noodles. Salmon was fresh, but would've been better if it wasn't room temperature. Beef noodle soup had flavorful broth and wasn't too heavy. Drunken noodles were good but the chicken was way too dry. Overall it was a decent meal, would come back in the future if craving sushi and thai but I wouldn't hurry back here. read more

First impression was wow the servers here are so nice and personable. The ambiance is nice with murals and beautifully lit. The seating is a mix of bench and tables which made it comfortable for a solo dining experience as well as dates and groups. Menu is a mix of sushi and Thai. I tried the patriots roll and salmon don, both nicely prepared and delicious. I'm already planning my next visit to explore their Thai selection. read more

First impression: Great service!! When you walked into a restaurant 25 minutes before closing on a Saturday, you will know if they have great service. Everyone was very friendly even all the patrons have left. We ordered almost immediately and then finish as fast as we can but the servers still come and chat with us. It was impressive. Chirashi/Hokkaido don: The fish was fresh but what impressed me most with my Hokkaido don was that they fried the shrimp head. If you have been to many popular and authentic (Japanese run) Japanese restaurant, you will noticed often, they just serve the shrimp and the head as decoration. Some knows what they are doing and deep fried the head. It was delicious. Yes, crispy enough that you have to finish the whole head! The uni was also very fresh. I just came back from Japan few months ago in Sapporo. Was having my Kaisen experience at 二条市場, the fish market in Sapporo. And Maguro's uni was as good!! And there were 4-5 pieces of scallop which was fresh and delicious. Only thing is, I'd prefer thicker than numbers. The texture is different. The squid deserves a shout out. Japanese master sushi chef will cut it nicely but still a piece of squid, they did it so beautifully here at Maguro. Just check out the pictures. The Foie gras was a delightful surprise. The sauce it uses was very tasty, I like this fusion idea. We finished with the mango sticky rice. Mango was excellent... Set but with a tint of sourness, along with the coconut cream (with condense milk I think), it's perfectly blend together. Sushi rice in the Hokkaido don... It's warm! I know many places made them warm as well but not everywhere and the taste was perfect. Not too much sugar and vinegar just the right balance. The funny thing is I was so enticed with the Thai dishes I almost ordered basil fried rice and some other Thai dishes. That'll be the next time. read more

I will never return to this restaurant. We wanted to love this place because it looked so cute online, but this has been the worst sushi experience of my entire life. The texture was tough and dry, and the flavors were all off. The ramen was also disappointing, the broth tasted very metallic-y... I tried to love it because I've never complained at a restaurant before but after spending nearly $75, it felt necessary. The waitresses response was not understanding even though I tried to discuss my issues in a respectful manner. She told us there was nothing she could do and forced us to pay the majority of the tab after adding that we don't have good taste. My advice would be to avoid this establishment if possible. read more

We got here on a Thursday evening. They don't accept reservations but we didn't have hard time getting a table for 4. My partner and I got sushi party boar A and uni shot. First of all, uni shot had an amazing taste, with their own house sauce. It was tad expensive and i did wish it had more of uni taste than the sauce but overall it was still good. Sushi party boat A was a perfect size for two hungry adults. It came with 2 rows of rolls, 9 sushi and 10 sashimis. Each sushi and sashimi was cut so thick and meaty it was so satiating. The interior is really nice, clean and spacious. They've got nice murals and decorations. I'd definitely come here again AND bring guests :) read more

Most of the current reviews focus on the Japanese food at MAGURO so I have to share my opinion of the Thai. I got the pad thai and my partner got the sweet and sour stir fry both with tofu. The pad thai was SO salty it tasted like someone just dumped fish sauce and lime on some noodles and called it a day. The sweet and sour just tasted sweet, a tiny bit sour, and basically had no spice at all. I thought it was weird that they didn't ask what spice level we wanted since that's a standard where we're from. The tofu on both of ours was also rubbery although it was probably good when it was fresh. The service and ambience were both okay. No issues with either but nowhere near good enough to make up for how bad the food was. Is this the standard for Boston Thai food? I sure hope not. read more
