We ate here for their breakfast/ brunch offerings. It's located inside the historic Magnolia hotel. The interior dining area is nice, modern, folksy with the upholstered pleather chairs at the table. Has a small and rather limited menu though. We ordered the yogurt parfait, avocado toast on sour dough bread and steel cut oats and a plain black coffee. The steel cut coats is good, the oats are smaller cut, which I like. The blackberry compote is good on top of it. The yogurt, granola and blueberry parfait is good. Think it would be even better with a berry compote for added flavor to it. The avocado toast looks decent, but there is barely any avocado smashed onto the sour dough at all. It's quite skimpy. The coffee is average, so was our service, better with another staffer that had noticed our food order was not actually put in by our first waitress. read more

Well.... I liked the place. The bar area seemed to be the general social center for the employees. There was quite a bit of personal chit chat amongst the guys n girls. It was like listening to kids off the school bus talking about what's up , what server doing later ... etc.... "Oh my god" comments. Etc... One tv was playing a stream of you tube videos. ... a channel? Of "sensational " ping pong balls hit into solo cups.... A little immature but then again I'm pushing 60 I liked that the servers felt comfortable and liked their jobs. It's a young persons vibe....real young. The bar area felt a bit open. Tall ceiling. It was a little cold. The two bar tv's were silent. And too far to the right or left to feel like you could get lost in the moment. Tap Beer was cold , selection was 6. Minimal. Food. I had the salmon. Medium portion Crispy exterior , cooked to just a little dry. I wasn't a fan of the sweet glaze. I like less. Less is more on salmon. Opinion. The Brussels sprouts were good. The sweet potato mash was an Excellent idea. Excellent. For the salmon meal. It was watered didn't too much with. Chicken broth ? I'd prefer a less modified product in general. That the theme of critique from me. If the chef tried less hard to put his her own spin on the flavors. Or used less. I'd have enjoyed the rooty basic flavors of Mother Earth better. The restaurant was very clean and well decorated. The servers and hostess had really good service. I order buffalo wings and they were underwhelming. They give you 6 wingettes. In my case they gave me four and split one of the wings in half (the flat). I was kind of disappointed but it was what it was. I didn't complain. I just know when I come back to not order the wings and stick with the pasta. This restaurant was extremely overpriced in my opinion. read more

The District is the restaurant/bar inside the Magnolia Hotel. It was super dead inside around 8p on a Wednesday night, with only a couple other patrons. There was a bartender, a cook, and one other guy who looked like he was finishing up. Service was good as you would expect given the quietness. Prices a little pricey, upscale for Nebraska I take it. I ordered some fish tacos, which sounded good compared to the rest on the limited selection menu. I was largely disappointed with the taste. The fish was heavily fried but decent quality. The diced tomatoes were fresh. That was as far as it went. The flour tortillas were fresh enough but didn't compliment the meal, corn would work better. And whatever lettuce-y runny tartar-y goop drenched the fish was repulsive to say the least. There were also some little japapeno pieces which I didn't realize was in the mix that were tough to pick out. Not that I expected bomb fish tacos in Omaha NE but yeah, certainly weak. Skip em, people! It's a nice clean establishment to down a glass of wine or two, but I'd make plans to eat elsewhere. read more

The restaurant here is what I'm going to be reviewing. The sign says The District, google says Olive and Iras and I'm going to tell you that it doesn't matter what it's called, it is absolutely delicious. The Mrs and I stopped in after the Tom Segura show over the weekend. The pasta Alfredo is MASSIVE and very cheesy. The artichoke dip was delicious and the mrs enjoyed her chicken melt and truffle fries as well. I completely recommend stopping in to this restaurant and having the wonderful staff here find you a seat. read more

Visiting from Cheyenne, WY. to attend my nieces college graduation. Had dinner there. The waiter was very pleasant and attentive. Food was very good. The restaurant was inside the Magnolia Omaha Hotel. We were able to seat ourselves but did not feel crowded or too close to other tables. All employees wore masks and they provided hand sanitizer on each table. Masks were required but you could take them off once seated. read more

I've been here numerous times over the years, as we are season ticket holders at the Orpheum. We love coming for dinner and drinks before a show. This past Friday night (October 1st) was no different. My friend and I brought our kids before going to see Cats at 7:30. We sat down at 5:15, didn't get our drinks until 5:45 and didn't get our dinner until a few minutes before 7:00pm. We had to flag our waiter down multiple times, and every time he'd come by he'd barely stay long enough for us to tell him what we needed. The food was mediocre at best, and the service was even worse. Hopefully, the restaurant will truly consider this feedback as I'd love to come back. read more

Stopped in for an early dinner before going to the Orpheum. The place is very nice and comfortable. The wait staff was exceptional. They have happy hour until 6, which worked out great for us. I ordered the chicken caprese, with a side salad, and it was excellent! We had also ordered a half-price appetizer of the egg rolls, and I would highly recommend them. There were 5 of us for dinner, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The french fries were thin and crispy, and when I sampled them, I regretted that I got the side salad. I am looking forward to going back to The District for dinner again! read more

The service was so bad I'm not even considering the food quality in this review. I would have walked out but my coat was in the car and I gave my keys to valet and was too po'd to try to ask for them. So, I checked into the Magnolia hotel for three nights at $179/night and they give me a free beer coupon. Cool, thanks. I go to the bar and I order this beer that sounded magnificent (Keg Creek barrel aged imperial rye stout). Omg! WANT She starts out by asking me to wait, okay no problem. 5 minutes of tidying up and asks me what I'd like. "No, you can't have that beer with the coupon." ... "Okay I'll start with a Bud Light." Bud Light is gone in 10 minutes, she lets my glass stay empty a good 5 minutes. I thought maybe I offended her somehow so I strike a friendly conversation with her. I ask again for the beer, "yeah you can try that just give me a couple minutes" A couple comes along and is served immediately. She taps the computer like she's reprogramming it. Goes over to the other side of the bar, "is there anything I can get for you", has a chat with them. Comes back over to me, "so where are you from?" I'm thinking, "I'm from give me that damn beer and I'll be more friendly", and all sorts of other things. I did not know what to do. She went on and was sorting her tickets and doing other tidy up. I got up and went to the front desk to ask if I could be seated so someone might actually serve me. I had to wait another 10 minutes and the same lady, Susie was her name, came up and instead of offering an apology and asking what I wanted, she started arguing with me. This is where I storm up to my room and then realized I didn't have my coat, so I had to come down and face the lady at the desk again, who probably felt attacked by my frustration, so I apologized to her and she offered me a discount for the meal - so it was made a little bit better, but now I feel like a d-bag sitting here eating a cookie and trying to enjoy my beer but I'm furiously yelping instead. The food was pretty good after all, but if Susie is working the bar, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. ...went somewhere else...had to walk in the cold, even if I actually wanted to stay and enjoy that good beer Came back, asked the front desk about the breakfast, they asked Susie. Susie comes back with a breakfast menu after about 10 minutes of me waiting, sees it's me, stops, rolls her eyes, and sighs as she hands it to me. Seriously? Why is it so hard to understand, as a bar tender, patrons expect their damn glass not to be empty and they might be hungry too!!!!! read more

I had one meal at The Lounge and hung out at the bar a couple of times during my stay at the Magnolia Omaha. The restaurant is large, with plenty of table seating, outdoor seating, and bar seating. If you are a hotel guest, there is a gratis cocktail hour from 5:30-6:30 where they serve the house wines plus Coors or Bud Light draws. They didn't ask to check my key or anything, but I assume everyone there was a hotel guest. Needless to say, when there are free drinks involved, places get crowded quickly. I stayed 3 nights and the place was always jumping when it was cocktail hour. My one meal The Lounge was lunch. I arrived later, around 1:45. The place was empty, so empty I didn't know if it was open. But, a server found me and assured me it was. I went with the Magnolia salad, which is field greens with onions, parmesan cheese, cucumbers, and tomatoes with a vinaigrette to start. For lunch, I went with the buffalo chicken wrap and parmesan fries. The salad came out in less than 5 minutes. It's a reasonable size for a starter salad. The dressing was good, thicker than a typical vinaigrette. I'd order this again. The wrap and fries came out after another 7-10 minutes or so. The wrap isn't huge, but that was fine given its price and the fact that it was lunch. The fries are thin and were clearly just fried. They were not seasoned, or if they were, I didn't detect any. All they had was a lot of grated parmesan cheese dumped on top. I love parmesan, so that's not a problem, but I wouldn't call them seasoned fries. Once I added a lot of salt and pepper they were pretty good. The wrap was decent, but I wouldn't order it again. The fried chicken is doused in standard buffalo sauce. The menu says it comes with cheese and ranch dressing, but all I could taste was buffalo sauce. The tortilla maintained its integrity throughout the meal, so the thing never fell apart. But, I didn't finish it as it just didn't do a lot for me. The bar is decently stocked for a hotel bar. There were a few single malt scotch choices as well as wines by the glass or bottle. The bartender was very friendly. As far as hotel bars go, you can do a lot worse. Were I to stay at the Magnolia Omaha again I would definitely get a drink at this bar, but I likely wouldn't eat at the restaurant again. read more

The menu was extremely small and the bartender was such a snarky know it all with no courtesy or social cues. As I walked up he was saying "if you're gluten free or vegan or have any food allergies that is the last thing we want to hear and the first thing that will make your server dislike you." I know it complicates things when people have these issues but if you're a good restaurant it shouldn't be a difficult task to feed people with different needs. I don't even have these issues of food sensitivities or a very restrictive diet (I ordered right off the menu with no special requests) but for him to first approach me like that when he knew nothing about me seemed weird and honestly really rude. If I had been with my mom or several of my good friends with food allergies or dietary restrictions I would have immediately walked out and in retrospect I wish I had anyway. I felt like I couldn't even eat my meal in peace because he kept coming by and badgering me about how dumb GF & vegan stuff is when again I do not qualify as either nor did I care about his opinions on the matter. Friendly banter is one thing but this was just obnoxious overkill bordering on belittlement. The food itself was average which is why I gave it two stars instead of one but it's nothing I'd ever crave or think about again. I stopped in Omaha on my way east and was lucky enough to come upon this restaurant. They had a sea bass special that rivaled a fresh catch I had over ten years ago in the Caribbean. However what really made the meal incredible was the bartender, Rex. Every now and then you come across a bartender that is MEANT to bartend. The bar-side manner, attentiveness, conversation, and speed is something you rarely see apart from black and white movie bartenders. I cannot recommend this restaurant and hotel enough. You'll be especially taken care of if Rex is at the helm. read more

I chose the Magnolia as a quaint, boutique in the Haymarket district of downtown Omaha. My wife and I intended to do a little shopping and dine at an upscale restaurant. Unfortunately, it was raining when we were ready to head out. We chose instead to have dinner at the hotel restaurant. They have a nice looking bar and there was a big wedding going on, so we thought there may be spill-over entertainment from the wedding. The menu listed "Omaha Steaks - MP". To me, that was a good sign that the chef chose meats based on today's prices and served a good meal. I was wrong. My wife ordered the filet, I ordered the ribeye. It was obvious as it arrived that it was a breakfast steak (1/8 inch thick and trust me, Denny's does it better), but I accepted it and enjoyed the evening. After dinner, we asked for dessert and coffee. The coffee was delivered and the waitress said she'd be back for the dessert order. No problem. Over an hour later, we asked if we could order dessert. Now this became our problem. I asked what could have happened that she could completely ignore us for an hour. Without any apology and offering the excuse that she was overwhelmed (there was one other couple in the restaurant), desserts were delivered to-go. As she delivered the bill, she stated that she'd adjusted it to take off the desserts and a 20% discount. Still no apology, I asked to see the manager. The manager was obviously irritated when he came out - no mask, pulled a chair up to the table and asked, "what do you want?". I could tell at that point that this was not a "how can I make this better" kind of conversation. After explaining the situation to the manager he stood up and took a step toward me. I know a fight when I see one, I stood and readied myself for the first swing. He argued that I'd made his employee cry (by asking to see the manager) and that he was there to protect her. My wife pulled at my shirt to create some distance and reminded me that going to jail over dessert wasn't worth it. I was then asked to leave, the bill was charged to my room and I was thrown a card for the hotel's GM. I called the GM and received no return call. Don't eat there. Don't stay there. There are plenty of places in that nostalgic little piece of Omaha that know hospitality and how to treat a "guest". This is just an example of maximizing profits by hiring unqualified staff to fleece the unsuspecting patrons. read more
