Great Scott! No, not Winfield Scott or Sir Walter Scott, but Scott, the innkeeper at the Magnolia Manor B&B!! What a wonderful host! We called for a last minute reservation & Scott immediately accommodated us! We asked for a 2 bedroom suite, as I was traveling for a weekend getaway with my BFF (and fellow "Steel Magnolia") for a girl's trip & Scott graciously offered the entire 3rd floor rooms to us @ a terrific price! He sent us emails with arrival info, weather updates & activities to enjoy during our stay. We were immediately impressed by the façade of this magnificent brick structure featuring several magnolia trees on the manicured lawn. Walking in was like stepping back in time! We loved the entry room with its immaculate wooden floors, showcase w/ books & antiques, stunning brick fireplace & hearth, w/ the mantle displaying pewter. We were absolutely drawn in to the Colonial Williamsburg feel! What a perfect welcome! The sitting & dining area were decorated w/ the same colonial vibe, a cozy sofa, a corner secretary, a grandfather clock & a set of comfy wing chairs matched w/ an antique table, by the white wooden fireplace accented w/ a copper tea things, candles, clocks & figures. This room also had a buffet table where breakfast was to be served. It had a huge selection of teas & snacks which were available all day. The rooms were exquisitely furnished; we loved the antique colonial feel. My room 3, was beautifully appointed w/ a grand four poster king bed that was high as the clouds! I loved the vintage step stool provided in each room to climb the stairway to heaven!! The bed was soft & comfy as the clouds too! I felt like I was truly sleeping in the heavens! The room was equipped with all the amenities necessary for our stay! A small frig & a luggage rack were tucked into the dormer windows w/ floral valances, a brocade camel back settee, plenty of outlets for your devices w/ free wifi, lamps, and closet space. The closets had nice wooden hangers and ironing supplies. I loved the burgundy oriental rugs & the creative way the flat screen tv was mounted to the wall. There were built in drawers on either side of the room, but the top drawers were taken out to attach the tv, yet the integrity of the colonial look was kept in tact. Clever! As this an old manor house, the floors creaked as we walked on them adding the the colonial charm of the place! One has to remember that this is an old manor house not a modern hotel, yet it was just as comfortable to us as a newer space. It was so homey and warm. The bathroom had cool, brass vintage fixtures, a large shower w/ great water pressure, plenty of towels & washcloths & a hairdryer (which dried my long hair super fast) in the vanity. Shower gel and conditioning shampoo is provided in dispensers in the shower, but you may want to pack some of your own conditioner. The highlight of the bathroom, and indeed, my experience in this inn, was the huge bathtub with a jacuzzi! I'm so glad I brought my bubble bath because I used this relaxing tub both days of my stay and it was so relaxing! The beveled mirrors were interesting additions & the recessed lighting on dimmers added to the chill vibe. There are extra towels downstairs by the staircase should any guests need more than the ones provided. My friend's room, 4, was just as special as mine, w/ a pretty cream settee at the foot of the bed. The bathroom to this room is private & is exclusively for the guests in room 4; it's about two or three steps from the room. But certainly not inconvenient. After our restful nights, we awoke to simply breakfasts that were diverse each morning, accommodating a variety of dietary needs. One morning it was French toast stuffed w/fruit compote and powered sugar on top (a guest fav!) along w/turkey bacon, the next morning was egg, veggie & cheese sandwiches served with fruit & muffins (which were homemade & delectable!) There's also oatmeal & energy/granola bars offered. Due to COVID, the meals are served in wax paper, individually wrapped, which took away from the B&B experience but was certainly understandable due to the circumstances. Scott let us know that this was a temporary feature, although many of his guests love the "grab n' go" convenience of the wrapped foods. Pots of hot fresh coffee were on hand as well! Although the breakfasts weren't my fave, I appreciated that Scott can always accommodate his guests preferences such as keto, gluten free, vegan, etc. He's a hard worker! He was always so cordial & hospitable to everyone! In the back of this gorgeous estate is plenty of parking for the guests, Adirondack chairs encircling a fire pit, a deck w/ additional seating & a welcoming "pineapple" sign! The owners here truly live up to the pineapple symbol of welcome w/ their friendly demeanor! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Magnolia Manor B&B and we will without a doubt return to this charming, stately, historic inn! read more

I stayed here with my boyfriend when we came in town to explore Jamestown. The house is so beautiful, this was probably the biggest house Ive ever stayed in for a weekend. The inside of the house was more beautiful then the inside and it was decorated with colonial style curtains, pillows and even old style chairs. When it came to the room, the room was great! The best part was the huge bath tub with the jets! The jets felt amazing! and the tub was big enough for 2 people, which was a plus. The shower was really large as well and had a shower spout for your bottom area, which I have never seen before but it was very interesting. The bed was very high and I could barely get on top of it but luckily there was a step stool next to the bed to climb up to get in bed. It had a mini fridge in the room as well which was good, but it would have been better if there were some free beverages inside, like I have seen at other B&B I have been to. The breakfast was just eh and kind of weird honestly. Day one breakfast was like this piece of bread with maybe apples inside and they were individually wrapped and put out inside of a cake dish for whoever is staying at the B&B. There was only lemon water and plain water, and there wasn't much else as far as drinks. I was expecting more than just a weird piece of apple bread for breakfast because we were set for a long day of exploring the town and we wanted to have full stomachs while we were out, but that wasn't happening. There was literally nothing else to eat.....t was kind of strange. The next days breakfast was some sort of breakfast sandwich and that's it! They got the bed part on point in bed and breakfast, but the breakfast part sucked. They need to do better on that end. Magnolia is a mixed bag when it comes to a B&B. Check-in is a breeze since it's done via access codes you get in advance via email. It's a very nice house with nice rooms. The spa tub in my room was awesome and the shower is very spacious. The bed is large and comfortable. Other B&Bs also provide sodas and wine at no extra charge and this one does not. They do put out cookies in the afternoon. Other than that one small complaint of no drinks other than water they have the "Bed" part covered. The "Breakfast" part is not so well covered. It starts at 8:30 am which is too early for my tastes and the food isn't good. I don't even know what I ate the 1st day and the 2nd day was a breakfast sandwich which I didn't even eat. The spa tub is the main thing that would draw me back to Magnolia Manor. But I'd bring some sodas and wouldn't plan on having breakfast there my entire stay. read more

Beautiful location not too far from Colonial Williamsburg. I have been here twice and have really enjoyed my stay. Scott was also very helpful when I showed up early on my recent visit. My Room was on a somewhat busy street but I didn't hear much road noise. The floors are creaky, but the guests during both stays here were tame. Sadly, breakfast was served later than my schedule would allow, but I was able to eat some of the snacks they leave out for guests. The parking was easy and is off the main road. Really seamless stay here. Walkable into town too. That and its affordability mean I'll be coming back yet again! read more

Was going to Williamsburg to check out William & Mary with my kid and wanted a place within walking distance and also near the 'Historic Triangle' to see the sites. Magnolia Manor B&B met both of those criteria and also had such a great, quaint atmosphere. It's in a lovely, historic home and was beautifully furnished. Everything you'd hope to see in Williamsburg. The owner--Scott--was very personable and the breakfasts were delicious! There were also tasty, homemade snacks in the afternoon. Within less than a mile from great restaurants too. Free parking, WiFi, and cable were also provided. If my kid decides on W&M, would definitely stay here again when visiting! read more

disgusting. Our stay at this B&B was absolutely miserable. When we arrived at the home, it was extremely under maintained and uninviting, besides the magnolia trees on the property. We thought it was a haunted house, but it turns out that it was only haunted by our deluded host, Scott. When we knocked on the door around 11:30 AM, no one answered. We had to call the hotel number and get Scott to open the door for us after we had been standing in the heat. When we entered, he was friendly but had to run errands, which we found extremely odd as we had just arrived. He also said that our room was not ready, so either we had to sit on their uncomfortable, old fashioned couches or walk around Williamsburg in the blazing heat and humidity. We chose the second option and got lunch until about 3:00. We got back to the Magnolia Manor and had to call their phone number again to get back inside the house (although later the host gave us a code to the back entry) and we went up to our room called the "guest room". Immediately we had been wondering what the hell they had been doing for the past three hours. The decor was absolutely revolting and not in the charming colonial B&B style you would expect. The bathroom had a disgusting used hair tie next to the bathtub, and the room looked like it needed a deep cleaning. It was a total fucking nightmare. Since we had been walking around all day, we decided to go to bed early, hoping to escape from this hellhole. We put on our PJs and went to bed, at least expecting a comfortable mattress. The mattress was hard as a rock, our heads kept banging on the cheap headboard, and we only had one pillow. The sheets were also suspicious, as anyone who works in hospitality knows that sheets must be white to assure guests that they are clean. I didn't want to know what the guests before us had left on the sheets. We were seriously considering going to the Holiday Inn 5 minutes down the road at this point, but we decided to see how the rest of the night went. We quickly realized later on in the night that the walls were completely paper thin and we could hear every movement of the guests above us. We also had to make sure that the door was locked multiple times as it always felt like someone was coming into our room when someone passed to go down the staircase. The worst were the people in the room next to us who were watching TV (which was connected to the wall that our bed was up against) and laughing loudly until 1:00 am. We finally had to tell them to "SHUT THE F UP" for both of the the two nights that we stayed there. At one point, myself and my mom woke up to the sound of the man next to us burping and farting. I thought I was on PUNKD it was so disgusting. In the morning we were hoping that at least the breakfast was good, but it was truly disgusting. We came downstairs to see no host serving or talking to guests. He simply hid away in his home that was next to the B&B (which was much nicer and well maintained). We had coffees that were unbearably bitter and tasted watered down. We found that the breakfast "made from scratch every morning" was simply soggy food heated up in cheap warming trays. We had a blueberry french toast that had clearly frozen berries haphazardly stuffed into chewy bread. We also had Turkey bacon (yuck) that made me want to throw up on his carpet right then and there. It looked like a used bandage. It was all shoved into paper bags that were wet and gross. We needed to shower, so I went first. I opened the curtain, and what I saw was absolutely horrifying. A rusted, yellow tub that was clearly not cleaned, a used gross hair tie, hair in the bottom of the tub and yellow ceilings that looked like something out of a sci-fi film. They also only had body gel and shampoo, no conditioner to be found. The next day, we snuck out early so we did not have to be confronted by Sneaky Scott or see anyone else. Our stay was awful, and no one should stay here. You may be tempted by the close proximity to town or the good reviews on here, but I am convinced they are fake. My husband and I stayed one night over the weekend as a short little get away. I was bummed to have to leave such a nice room and spa-like shower. My husband booked the Governor's Suite, the nicest, most spacious room and bathroom we have ever had on a get away. The shower was awesome, felt like being in a spa with beautiful tile work and high ceiling. A clean, comfortable stay with a king size bed, mini fridge, a fireplace in the living room, and a faux fireplace in the bedroom. This bed and breakfast also had ample parking, free wifi, a water cooler downstairs (which is isn't always available or free at some stays whether a hotel or B&B), and a friendly, helpful inn keeper. The location is very convenient to Merchant's Square and W&M. The only reason I took off a star and rated this place 4:5 is because of the lack of variety with the breakfast. I guess I always imagined the breakfast at a bed and breakfast to be bountiful with a home cooked quality. In the future I would stay again in the Governor's suite but have plans to eat breakfast elsewhere. read more

My husband and I have been here for a total of 4 stays and it's become a special place to us. Every time we come we get room #2 which is like a mini apartment, beautiful walk in shower, and the most comfy bed you will ever sleep in! Breakfast is always so yummy and the treats during the day is always so nice to have! Very disappointed. The owner greeted us in workout shorts and bare feet. Really? Yep! The room was filthy. The baseboards and window trim were excessively dirty. The light fixtures in the bathroom were dusty and never cleaned for years! The breakfast was an after thought that was thrown together. The sausage was a hard dried up disc the size of a quarter. The Jacuzzi tube jets were all caulked and filled with mold. No kidding. Maintains the facility is not their priority. I left after one night and moved to another B&B. Robert W. What a delightful bed and breakfast. The breakfasts were great and our host was friendly and helpful. A few things to note. 1. There are steps to get into bed if you are short. 2. The photos showing really light breakfasts are misleading. There is usually an awesome main piece, some form of potatoes, a fruit dish, cereal and toast. 3. We had the third floor bedroom and while the fixtures are dated for the jet tub and the shower, they work. 4. They leave your room alone when you are in, so don't think anyone will make your bed daily. We would definitely stay here again. read more

Great overall lodging in Williamsburg. It's in a beautiful old but well-kept neighborhood in close proximity to everything you would want to see in the area. The innkeepers were very welcoming. Our room was very nice, the bed was quite comfy. My only comment would be to have a little more creativity with breakfast. We've stayed in a number of B&Bs over the years and feel like one of the hallmarks of a good B&B experience is a creative, whimsical breakfast of some kind. Not the worst hospitality experience I've ever had or anything, but as far as B&Bs go, this place is very meh. It suffices, but it's nothing special and in some cases is just not anywhere near up to par with other B&Bs I've been to. The house itself is nice and has a great location if you want to walk to downtown Colonial Williamsburg or the campus of William & Mary (it's basically right on W&M's campus). But it is on Richmond Road and not secluded or in any really peaceful area or anything like that. So it's give and take there. The home is beautiful from the outside, and has a regal, colonial, classic look inside. But the downstairs is a bit small without any suitable sitting areas for reading, playing games, etc. There's a living room, but the fireplace appears to have fake logs in it and isn't functioning. The couch and chairs in there are awkward to sit in if you're trying to read or need like a side table to put a coffee cup on or something. The rooms are spacious enough, but the big colonial style beds with canopies make them feel tighter. (You'll have to use the provided step stool to get in these extra-high beds if you're old or short.) But the rooms are in dire need of some updating. Paint was chipping and peel off of the ceiling. The bathroom door didn't latch closed. There was water damage in the bathroom wall/floor in one spot. The tub (separate from the shower) was either dirty or very worn. The shower had four heads (two top, two lower), but they aren't positioned correctly for you to get the full effect of all of them at once. All the fixtures and such just look dingy and many have greened because they're bronze or something and haven't been cleaned. The rooms are very stuffy, and with no central air, it's up to a window air conditioning unit to keep you comfortable. It works fine, but the unit had mold inside of the blowers and presented some breathing issues the first night. The final thing about the rooms is that if they do modernize them a bit, they should add some outlets -- finding a convenient spots that's easily accessible for electronics charging is tough! So that's the bed, but what about the breakfast? Well, I don't have much good to say about that either. I've come to expect B&B food to be some of the most amazing, memorable food of my life. That's one of the main reasons I've come to pretty much just stay at B&Bs exclusively instead of hotels the last couple of years. Usually, you get served courses by the proprietors and someone is always standing by to refill your coffee, etc. (Speaking of the coffee -- it was horrible, really watery and weak.) But here, they just put the food out buffet style for everyone to fight over. It's kind of awkward, but even worse, the food was bad. The potatoes, regardless of form, were always undercooked. Of three breakfasts, none involved bacon or a decent egg. One morning's baked egg souffle was severely overcooked -- the center was like a hardboiled egg. Yuck! Then there was quiche -- a lazy, not-so-great egg dish. And there was also a weird bread with a few apples on it -- was it supposed to be some kind of French toast? Everyone around the table sort of talked about how it was dry and we had no idea what it was. They also keep out INSTANT OATMEAL packets on a side table. Mmmkay. The only thing I really liked was the appetizer pasty each morning because it usually tasted the most homemade and fresh. I didn't see a single vegetable the whole time I was there (no onions or peppers in the potatoes or eggs... maybe the quiche had a tomato or something, but that's really a fruit and just...meh, no), and nothing was really seasoned. The hash browns, for example, weren't browned and they didn't have any seasoning on them at all -- they were basically little raw cubes of plain white potato. Even the mid-day treats kept out in the living room weren't great. Most B&Bs put out ooey gooey chocolatey brownies or chewy, moist cookies -- but Magnolia just does tiny little hard-as-a-rock cookies. The husband in the ownership duo was extremely friendly and helpful. Very talkative, nice guy. He was great. The morning that the wife did breakfast, she just sat it out, told everyone, and disappeared. Definitely not as personable. Overall, Magnolia Manor has a long way to go to compete with other great B&Bs along the East Coast. They could really take a page out of the Laurel Lodge's book in Harper's Ferry, W.Va. The thing is, other B&Bs in Williamsburg don't seem to have reviewed quite as well, so I'd be cautious about ever staying in one again down there. From what I've now learned at the area, staying at the hotel associated with the winery may be the way to go. read more

Stayed at this spacious bed & breakfast just down the block from Colonial Williamsburg and William & Mary for 4 nights last week. Our hosts rented all the rooms to my family for a reunion, and we made best use of the common areas that were large enough to accommodate more than 14 people. The bedrooms are large and very comfortable, complete with all the amenities you'd find in a hotel. Most rooms had a bathroom within, the exception being my room with the bathroom outside off of the hall, but very convenient nonetheless. We were a loud group, early risers and late niters, but we heard no complaints from the folks that ran the b&b. Speaking of the 2nd b - breakfast - we had 4 great sit-down/buffet style meals, enough to start the day and last us well into the afternoon. Our host/chef was eager to give us his recipes, as we especially liked the cream-poached egg with cheese topping. Overall, I'd recommend Magnolia Manor for comfort, cost, convenience and the warm, welcoming feeling of being at home. read more

Wonderful location, the room we stayed in was amazing. I'm not a breakfast guy, so I slept in (the mattress was literally the best I've ever slept on), but my girlfriend said the food was great. While most reviews were very highly rated we must have been given a room that hasn't been used and cleaned in years. As you can see from the pictures the entire room needs an overhaul of cleaning. The breakfast was also inedible- frozen quarter size sausage patties that were microwaved, potatoes that were not cooked and some type of egg product. This was my fiancé and I's first B&B experience, and it was absolutely lovely! Scott was a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome. The location close to campus and Colonial Williamsburg can't be beat. The bed is seriously the most comfortable thing we've ever slept on. We missed the first morning's breakfast because we slept in the beds were so cozy!! But the second morning we did have breakfast and it was also very nice. Overall a very comfortable experience and at an extremely reasonable price (especially considering the same amount would get you a chain hotel much further away)! Other reviewers have mentioned issues with heating/AC. We did not experience that, and I think the owners must have installed new systems because they were working really well when we were there. read more

Upon some reflection we are updating our previous review to 2 stars. We have stayed at several VA B and B's and the Magnolia Manor is just not deserving of such a rating. The breakfast is a true disappointment as is the parking and overall condition of the guest rooms. One could and should look for other lodging when traveling to Williamsburg. read more

Never having stayed at a Bed and Breakfast and never really having a desire to I was pleasantly surprised and delighted with our stay at the Magnolia Manor. Our room was huge, clean, very comfortable and the mattress on the king bed was beyond wonderful! Typically I wake up every morning at 3:30am but my husband actually had to wake me up at 8:30 for breakfast!! Getting out of bed is usually a very easy thing for me to do - on this mattress I could have slept all day - so utterly unlike me!!! The location to dining, Colonial Williamsburg and shopping was excellent. Parking at the Magnolia Manor was ample, located on the property and just steps away from the entry door. I read the review about being greeted by Scott the owner wearing work-out clothes.... well, I'd have to say.... this is his home and apparently he works out - big deal! We were provided home and room entry information in an email once we secured payment for our stay. We entered the home and Scott came out to meet/greet us - he was very pleasant, welcomed us, explained where our room was (though we had that info from an email he had sent us) and then left us to enjoy the public spaces, refreshments and our room. I thought being in a 'strangers home' would feel odd but I felt very comfortable and welcomed. My husband, who has stayed at a few other B&B's told me that I was being spoiled because Magnolia Manor, in his opinion, is several notches above the B&B's he has been to though price and location to the venue was comparable. We stayed at the Magnolia Manor for two nights. The house was very pretty and comfortable. Our rooms were also very clean, comfortable, and cool during a hot summer. The house is very conveniently located to colonial Williamsburg and the College of William and Mary both of which were our destinations. Scott was very friendly and helpful. While the breakfast served was unique-- and there were some items I could not precisely identify-- it was very tasty. The owners are not around much except at breakfast and check-in (I never met Jennifer), I appreciated that they weren't skulking about. It allowed for you to enjoy a comfortable home without the "guest feeling." My only complaint would be that coffee was not readily available. It is true it would be set out about half an hour before breakfast and remain for maybe an hour after breakfast. Teas and water (and a little baked treat) were available 24/7. It would be nice if they had a Keurig machine that allowed you to have coffee when you want. I am an early riser (6 AM) and it was hard not to have access to coffee at that time. This was our first attempt at staying in a Bed & Breakfast. The booking process was easy enough, filling out an online form and then waiting for an email confirmation. I had some questions about late check-in so I called and Scott was eager to accommodate. We did end up arriving late, after 8pm on a Friday evening. We had called ahead and Scott gave us the skinny on how to find the place, enter the home and get comfortable in our room. There is ample parking in the rear of the house, and a rear entryway that opens up into the dining area and the adjoining sitting/living room area. I did not really know what to expect not having stayed at a B&B before, but the decor and atmosphere felt colonial and cozy. Upstairs we stayed in the Magnolia room, which is on the left hand side of the house if you are looking at it from the front. The doorway on the back of the house opens into a large sitting area, with a couch, a chair, TV and a gas fireplace. We made good use of this room, sitting and relaxing while the fire kept us warm and the kardashians kept us entertained (don't judge). Connected to the sitting room and on the front side of the house is the bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom is large enough for the spacious raised king size canopy bed and just a few bedside tables and a chair. The shutters on the windows area a nice touch. The bathroom was somewhat modern and fit our needs just fine. Overall the area you pay for is spacious, comfortable and relaxing - just what we needed. The breakfast provided on both mornings was fantastic. We are vegetarians, but did not think to say anything about that to the owners - however each breakfast was centered by a fantastic egg dish where meat was a side dish - so we were able to chow down with no problem. It was not a glutenous buffet, but just enough food to get you going. There was tea, coffee, water and goodies laid out in the living area 24/7. I found the owners to be a good balance of hospitable without hovering. They made sure we had what we needed and engaged slightly in the morning discussions over breakfast with the others staying at the Inn. The other couples staying at the Inn were all interesting and did not detract from the experience even for an introvert like myself. There were only a couple of negatives about our stay, and none of them deal breakers. The doors were hard to open, both into the room and the bathroom. They would stick and we found ourselves having to push quite hard to escape from each room. Also it was hard to regulate the heat/cooling in the room. There was a fireplace in the sitting area, and a small heater in the bedroom, with a window AC unit to round it out. I could not tell if there was central heat/ac at all, but the issue we had was that it was quite hot in the room(s) overnight, and we found ourselves opening a window to keep cool enough. Which leads me to the last negative, which was the outside noise. The Inn is beautiful and regal from the outside, and fits into the area quiet well - but sits right on Richmond Rd just half a mile or so from colonial williamsburg and equally as far from the campus at William & Mary. So from a location perspective it was great, but heavily trafficked both by vehicle and foot. The road noise was not overwhelming, but noticeable. The foot traffic however was an issue - as college kids were meandering by until the late/early hours of the morning. The room on the opposite side of the house (not up against the road) might have been quieter, maybe we can try that next time. Regardless I don't expect the negatives are enough to keep us from returning in a future trip to Williamsburg, and also the experience as a whole has opened our eyes to the benefits of staying at a B&B over a hotel/motel chain. read more

This B&B is the best ever. My wife and I were on our Honeymoon at a resort. Their amenities were horrible. I called Magnolia Manor by the suggestion of our Daughter who stayed here 8 years ago.
