My husband and I are approaching our 3rd wedding anniversary and I have yet to ever leave a review for Colonial Gardens Bed and Breakfast, but they've been on my mind, as I would like to stay there again sometime; maybe on our upcoming anniversary. First off, we purchased a wedding package through the B&B, including the extras that provided a video and photos of our wedding. Personally I thought that it was a great value for the money since they literally do all the work. We paid them and they provided everything! We just had to show up. When we arrived, we were late. Coming from the DC area, traffic was a monster and although I arrived late, not showered and scatterbrained, Karen and the crew were accommodating in allowing some time for me to get ready for our wedding (it was an intimate affair with just me and the groom). I'm not sure which room we had, but it was a 2 part room with an area for me to get ready. I was very pleased with the room and the cleanliness. We got married in April, so it wasn't quite warm, but it wasn't quite cold. The grounds were in full bloom and just beautiful. We had the option to get married inside (in hindsight, I wish we had), because although the outside provided breathtaking photos, the traffic was so loud, you can't make out our vowels in the video during our ceremony. As someone else mentioned, the B&B does sit off of a busy road that can get loud and it can be easily missed, but I don't hold this against the business. Although there were other guests during our stay, everyone was quiet and it made for a wonderful weekend getaway. Our room was cozy and comfortable and they provided a bottle of champagne and a 2 tier cake for our wedding, as well as a stunning bouquet with the flowers of my choice. The food the next morning was the best! Probably one of the best breakfasts' I've ever eaten. The only downside to our wedding package was that I just wish I would have hired a professional photographer/videographer. The staff at this business do throw it out there that they are not professional photographers, but they do their best. However, it took FOREVER to get my photos back to me. Every time I would call, she would say that she was busy 'editing' them. And since it was just my husband and I, we didn't actually have that many photos (they did offer to take more and we declined). But I would think that it would have been a lot easier since there were so few photos. The video was a waste. Unfortunately, you can't hear our vowels over the traffic. I do know that they tried their best to eliminate the traffic sounds from the video, but were unsuccessful. I definitely recommend this place. It's small and not fancy, but it served its purpose for us, and I do not regret for one moment that we chose Colonial Bed and Breakfast for our special day.

It's located a few blocks from historic Merchants Square and across the street from the College of William and Mary. It's a great place to stay if you're exploring Colonial Williamsburg or visiting someone affiliated with the college. We stayed one night in their George Washington suite which has a queen and a twin bed (separated by a wall). The bathroom is really tiny and the shower a little weird. The shower stall is very narrow and because the shower head is too high, you can't adjust it. You have to stand against the wall in order to shower. Not great. The place was quiet and the bed quite comfortable. We missed breakfast (8-9 am) as we got up late. My sister and I are both night owls, so I stayed late reading and didn't get up early enough for breakfast. If they have a room with a bigger bathroom, I'd consider staying here again.

There may be a family that benefits from housekeeping that swings a door into your feet at 9am, because they are hanging off of a creaky bed, but it certainly wasn't mine. Never mind the pretentiousness of a pretend cigar lounge, meaning not one to smoke in but just an aesthetic throwback to a time when people actually enjoyed themselves at this location. Not that one would want a cigar after eating chocolate pudding that tastes like it was infused with Trix cereal or any of the other dishes who sacrifice taste for novelty. I would have at least been frightened by the Colonial Williamsburg ghost tour, but after staying at this location, I realized that even the spirits probably wouldn't stick around.

First of all, there was an instruction card that came with the reservation however while it did indicate that there is a backdoor, it did not inform that this was the 'main' entrance. There is very limited parking and if you want to park across at the church on or the street, you are at risk of towing. They have no passes for parking in these locations. The beds are their own issue. If you are vertically challenged, you will have great difficulty getting into the main beds. We stayed in a 'suite' (I use this term laughingly as it was just two connecting rooms) that had another room with twin beds. While the main bed seemed to have a mattress from the last century, the twin beds were ancient. The "pillows" that they give you are quite literally flatter than a pancake they would serve you for breakfast. The suite we stayed in was in the front of the house and there is no insulation to cancel ANY of the traffic noises from outside. It was very very stuffy inside and I wasn't able to open a window. We asked for a step stool and were given one that wasn't even as high as a normal step on a staircase. It was still very difficult to get in to the bed. At no time while I was there did I see, hear or meet the host/hostess of the B&B. The only time we met any employee was in the morning during breakfast. These ladies were AMAZING. They almost made up for the lack of any other service or greeting in their friendliness. The breakfast was late the day I was there. There are signs everywhere stating that it would be served at 8:30 but it was closer to 9:30. I'm an early riser so this was a bit of an inconvenience. At least the coffee was available. They had eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, toast, cereal etc. It was set up as a buffet style in a very stylish area of the serving area. The dining room table is gorgeous but there are no placemats to put your plates on, I felt very worried about scratching this gorgeous table. The non guest rooms were fit with comfy areas to just relax and chill after a day of being a tourist. The furniture may not have been the most comfortable, but given how cozy each area was this was easily forgiven. I really enjoyed that each room had a Christmas tree already set up. This is not very handicapped friendly as no matter which way you enter, there are very old steps. The front steps were especially bad. To sum up; Parking; F Comfort; B Room Comfort: C+ Breakfast: A Location: A- Price: C (for our experience it was really really pricey)

The wifi worked great and there were lots of convenient plugs, There is a nice lounge area with a lovely adjacent terrace and snacks and tea and coffee available along with a nice continental breakfast. We called for a last minute reservation & Scott immediately accommodated us! We asked for a 2 bedroom suite, as I was traveling for a weekend getaway with my BFF (and fellow "Steel Magnolia") for a girl's trip & Scott graciously offered the entire 3rd floor rooms to us @ a terrific price! He sent us emails with arrival info, weather updates & activities to enjoy during our stay. We were immediately impressed by the façade of this magnificent brick structure featuring several magnolia trees on the manicured lawn. Walking in was like stepping back in time! We loved the entry room with its immaculate wooden floors, showcase w/ books & antiques, stunning brick fireplace & hearth, w/ the mantle displaying pewter. We were absolutely drawn in to the Colonial Williamsburg feel! What a perfect welcome! The sitting & dining area were decorated w/ the same colonial vibe, a cozy sofa, a corner secretary, a grandfather clock & a set of comfy wing chairs matched w/ an antique table, by the white wooden fireplace accented w/ a copper tea things, candles, clocks & figures. This room also had a buffet table where breakfast was to be served. It had a huge selection of teas & snacks which were available all day. The rooms were exquisitely furnished; we loved the antique colonial feel. My room 3, was beautifully appointed w/ a grand four poster king bed that was high as the clouds! I loved the vintage step stool provided in each room to climb the stairway to heaven!! The bed was soft & comfy as the clouds too! I felt like I was truly sleeping in the heavens! The room was equipped with all the amenities necessary for our stay! A small frig & a luggage rack were tucked into the dormer windows w/ floral valances, a brocade camel back settee, plenty of outlets for your devices w/ free wifi, lamps, and closet space. The closets had nice wooden hangers and ironing supplies. I loved the burgundy oriental rugs & the creative way the flat screen tv was mounted to the wall. There were built in drawers on either side of the room, but the top drawers were taken out to attach the tv, yet the integrity of the colonial look was kept in tact. Clever! As this an old manor house, the floors creaked as we walked on them adding the the colonial charm of the place! One has to remember that this is an old manor house not a modern hotel, yet it was just as comfortable to us as a newer space. It was so homey and warm. The bathroom had cool, brass vintage fixtures, a large shower w/ great water pressure, plenty of towels & washcloths & a hairdryer (which dried my long hair super fast) in the vanity. Shower gel and conditioning shampoo is provided in dispensers in the shower, but you may want to pack some of your own conditioner. The highlight of the bathroom, and indeed, my experience in this inn, was the huge bathtub with a jacuzzi! I'm so glad I brought my bubble bath because I used this relaxing tub both days of my stay and it was so relaxing! The beveled mirrors were interesting additions & the recessed lighting on dimmers added to the chill vibe. There are extra towels downstairs by the staircase should any guests need more than the ones provided. My friend's room, 4, was just as special as mine, w/ a pretty cream settee at the foot of the bed. The bathroom to this room is private & is exclusively for the guests in room 4; it's about two or three steps from the room. But certainly not inconvenient. After our restful nights, we awoke to simply breakfasts that were diverse each morning, accommodating a variety of dietary needs. One morning it was French toast stuffed w/fruit compote and powered sugar on top (a guest fav!) along w/turkey bacon, the next morning was egg, veggie & cheese sandwiches served with fruit & muffins (which were homemade & delectable!) There's also oatmeal & energy/granola bars offered. Due to COVID, the meals are served in wax paper, individually wrapped, which took away from the B&B experience but was certainly understandable due to the circumstances. Scott let us know that this was a temporary feature, although many of his guests love the "grab n' go" convenience of the wrapped foods. Pots of hot fresh coffee were on hand as well! Although the breakfasts weren't my fave, I appreciated that Scott can always accommodate his guests preferences such as keto, gluten free, vegan, etc. He's a hard worker! He was always so cordial & hospitable to everyone! In the back of this gorgeous estate is plenty of parking for the guests, Adirondack chairs encircling a fire pit, a deck w/ additional seating & a welcoming "pineapple" sign! The owners here truly live up to the pineapple symbol of welcome w/ their friendly demeanor! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Magnolia Manor B&B and we will without a doubt return to this charming, stately, historic inn!

The inside of the house was more beautiful then the inside and it was decorated with colonial style curtains, pillows and even old style chairs. When it came to the room, the room was great! The best part was the huge bath tub with the jets! The jets felt amazing! and the tub was big enough for 2 people, which was a plus. The shower was really large as well and had a shower spout for your bottom area, which I have never seen before but it was very interesting. The bed was very high and I could barely get on top of it but luckily there was a step stool next to the bed to climb up to get in bed. It had a mini fridge in the room as well which was good, but it would have been better if there were some free beverages inside, like I have seen at other B&B I have been to. The breakfast was just eh and kind of weird honestly. Day one breakfast was like this piece of bread with maybe apples inside and they were individually wrapped and put out inside of a cake dish for whoever is staying at the B&B. There was only lemon water and plain water, and there wasn't much else as far as drinks. I was expecting more than just a weird piece of apple bread for breakfast because we were set for a long day of exploring the town and we wanted to have full stomachs while we were out, but that wasn't happening. There was literally nothing else to eat.....t was kind of strange. The next days breakfast was some sort of breakfast sandwich and that's it! They got the bed part on point in bed and breakfast, but the breakfast part sucked. They need to do better on that end. On a plus they had fresh baked cookies out for guests to have throughout the day and they were sooooooo good!

I mainly wanted to support local business so opted for a B&B rather than a chain hotel. When we arrived there was a key in the mailbox. We were the only ones here. The owner had stepped out. I didn't expect that level of trust but it immediately made me feel at home and we explored. What a house! Super clean but there are treasures in every corner. Who does the dusting! Barely saw a fleck. This house holds many memories from this family and this city and you can feel it. We stayed in the Captain John Smith suite. The suite is amazing and super cozy. The separate seating room is such a bonus and I agree with the other reviews it's worth the upgrade. As the only guests we looked in all the rooms and you cannot go wrong. Suite or not. First time experiencing a steam shower. It's a nice upgrade. Took me awhile to adjust the power of it. Warning unless you are tall don't go in and turn it to full power. I did stumble across a first. A black makeup rag. How smart. Ladies tend to ruin white rags with our makeup! Breakfast- oh the smells! I was worried that being the only 2 here the breakfast would be lacking. How wrong. I actually feel guilty this food wasn't shared by a larger group. It's indulgent and it was delicious. Southern at its best. I would come back just for that! There was yogurt and fresh fruit, fresh Ike made muffins, skillet potatoes, fluffy eggs, crisp perfection bacon, and peppered tomato slices. They were out of ketchup which turned out to be a blessing bc everything was seasoned perfectly. I ate every bit onmy plate. What a great spread! They normally do buffet style but since it was only us they didn't which did not take away from our bellies! Overall what a treasured stay. The conversations were easy and natural. Very down to earth people who make you feel at home. Ike is warm and inviting and his smile makes you feel warm. I highly recommend the splurge to stay here and make sure you save time to just lounge around!
