Magnets, magnets, and more magnets!! This store is on Pier 39, and curiosity pulled me into this store, or maybe it was the magnetic pull. Whatever it was, there were magnets everywhere, even on the ceiling in the back, This is the kind of store that makes you want to buy something when you had no plans to going in. Or maybe I was just magnetized!!! Hey, who doesn't need a few more magnets to throw on their fridge!! The doughnut magnets looked super real, had to take a 2nd look at them. I went to buy something at the store and presented my debit card and they attempted to charge me a $1 dollar fee. Firstly, it is against the law to charge any surcharge whatsoever on debit cards, secondly, you cannot charge more than 4% on a credit card. This store is breaking the law do not buy anything from them. read more

At first this looked like a cool store to get a souvenir, I mean, a magnet that looks like a doughnut, a hot dog, or even a banana, how could I say no, but as I walked in nobody in the store was wearing a mask and one person was coughing. Definitely not sanitary. The line was about a mile long But that's the price you pay at Fisherman's Wharf. A lot of things were scattered on the floor, and even the employees were not wearing masks. I think I was one of the only people in this store wearing one. They do not care about elderly people or people at higher risks of getting covid, also in general, the store was not the cleanest. The tile floor was damp and kind of muddy, and a lot of people were sneezing and coughing, I was really disgusted so I tried waiting outside thinking at least a few people would leave but it stayed packed. Don't come here, Everything is overpriced and the store is a mess And if you do come, expect only a few generous people to be wearing masks Thanks! read more

A magnet store on Pier 39? Sounds like a tourist trap to me! However, I was attracted to this store because of the realistic doughnut magnets adorning the store doors. They had a magnetic pull on me that I couldn't say no to, even at $12.50 a piece. Although that is a bit pricey for a magnet, the fun I will have with this realistic looking doughnut magnet at my office will be priceless! Aside from realistic looking doughnut magnets they had other foods like ice cream and hot dogs. In the touring category they has all sorts of tacky San Francisco magnets. Finally, they had thousands of rectangular magnets with funny sayings and popular quotes on them. read more

I was headed north on Pier 39 when I spotted this shop and felt attracted to it. Although this shop seems to be poles apart from the local population, there were a few of them mixed in with the tourists OK enough of the not very good magnet jokes! This was one of the most original shops I've seen around. An extensive array of different magnets up for sale on the walls. These cover everything from touristy sights of SF to sage sayings. so I'll tell you something about myself and it deals with a magnet...and no I am not magnetic.. Anyways, I was a wee kid at the time. My mom was carrying me walking around in the kitchen. So with her back was facing the refridgerator, I was looking straight at the fridge..and there was a bagel magnet. And....I ate it.... Now I dont remember this happening, but my mom stated that she felt that I had put something in my mouth, by that time I coughed a little and swallowed it down. Yes the whole bagel magnet. Apparently I thought it was food and ate it. Why do I bring this story up? Well a lot of the magnets here are in the shape of food items. Foam food items that could possibly passed up as somewhat real food. Its really neat and amazing from when food magents were hard and artsy looking. If you saw one of these donut magnets in the kitchen on a table or something you wouldnt suspect it was a magnet until you picked it up. Now imagine if it was a kid that liked donuts? I bet they would of took a bite out of it first before realizing it was a foam donut magnet. They have other magnets here but the food ones brought up the memories hahaha. I love this place. It's very cheesy but they have some fun stuff!! I love their magnets...I own only three of them surpisingly...:-) "Fork you!" My sister owns their flying pig item, and some other stuff. My s.o. has the little motorized hamster on a wheel. Prices are reasonable too! The people here are quite friendly and helpful. Although kitchy, this little store has brightened up my work cube. I am an instant gratification type of gal and didn't want to order on-line and then, have to wait...and wait...and wait for my magnets to arrive. Now, my office is decorated with sayings such as "Put your criticisms in the form of a compliment" and "Where is your off button?" I'm sure that my office mates are NONE to pleased when I smile and point to the applicable magnet, but whew...it saves LOTS of time from constantly "communicating" with co-workers... The down side, it is located in the horrendous tourist trap Pier 39. Upside, there are a LOT of Jim Benson "Happy Bunny" magnets. You can't say that you didn't know what you were getting when you walk into a business called "Magnetron." What drew me in was the donuts shaped like magnets.. complete with soft squishiness which made me go "mmm donut" a la Homer Simpson. The prices were a bit on the high end due to being "Pier 39" but good place to pick up some souvenirs if that's your thing. read more

Pier 39 is a tourist trap and why is it a tourist trap? Yeah, I get it that boat rides are popular but what makes this place great is the quirky and interesting stores. I am thinking of stores like this that are hard to find and oh yes, they definitely have personality. When I walked in, I immediately saw not too quirky magnets. They were California license plates with names which I like though. The further I walked through the store, the more personality the magnets gained. By the time I left the store, they were shouting wisecracks at me and cracking me up too. Anyway, right after the license plates were the guitar magnets. A sign said "Please do not play the guitars." I do not see why anyone would because those guitars were really tiny. I first thought they did not have strings but they do. They were the first of the many unexpected magnets here. After passing a few TVs (no TV magnets though,) the magnets with even more personality popped into view. They had pictures of people on them and there was a quote with them. One particularly funny one was a magnet with a stereotypical 50s lady saying, "I want to get on American Idol" and other magnets with 50s people talking about modern stuff. Last but not least, there were the yellow magnets with the funny wisecracking quotes. For example, one of them said, "Kids are spoiled because you can't spank grandparents." Overall, if you want to spice up your refrigerator door, stop here. Just remember, this store is a magnet for magnets that have personality. read more

I use to work here about 6 years ago and I loved it. This is a really neat store and sometimes it can get a bit messy since there's so always customers picking stuff up and putting them back in the wrong places. They have ALL sorts of magnets, from food to neat and hilarious phrases and they also have a variety of cute little toys. Attractive magnets galore all over the walls. Probably one of the largest collection of SF themed magnets I've ever seen. But most are fairly large. Some of the disc ones are 3-4 inches diameter. So, you've gotta have a large space to put it up. Most cost about $5. Some are on sale, 5 for $12. Cute shop to swing buy and buy souvenir gifts. They have all kinds of touristy magnets as well as decorative ones. Some of them look like realistic food such as doughnuts and hot dogs. I even found one with a small teeth marks, looked like a small child thought it was real. They are life size and truly look realistic, hands down the best fake food magnets I have ever seen. Bad experience here! They were offering a promotion for $1 off a baseball cap with any purchase. When I went to pay at the register the manager told me I did not qualify for the $1 discount because I had planned to buy the hat anyway! I told him that it an add-on purchase then he sniped that he didn't want to argue over $1 but still proceeded to complain about how we were cheating him of $1! Ridiculous and not service oriented. I run my own company and am involved in sales as well and would never treat my clients this way. read more
