Nigella is a beautiful floral shop located right on Market Street, in a super convenient area surrounded by lots of businesses. It feels like the perfect spot for foot traffic and events. I actually visited for the first time during a company offsite where they hosted a bouquet-making workshop, and it was such a fun experience. It was surprisingly challenging in a good way! It really made you think about placement, balance, and technique. We learned from two florists who each had their own style, which made it even more interesting. They also shared insights about different flowers, the history of the shop, and their personal journeys into floristry. I'd highly recommend this as a team offsite if you have the budget. It's a great mix of creativity and critical thinking, and it's something a little different from the usual team activities. Beyond the workshop, the shop itself is full of great finds like beautiful plants, Compartés chocolates, candles, pots, stickers, and other giftable items. It really feels like a one-stop shop if you're looking to put together a thoughtful gift. Also, fun personal note, I hadn't realized until this visit that they were actually the ones who made our wedding boutonniere, which made the experience even more special. Absolutely wonderful florist. We worked with Anna Hu, who we gave some minimal direction and a color palette, and she completely overdelivered. She nailed the look and feel we were hoping for (coastal, lichen, foraged, wild - our boutonnieres even had mushrooms in them!), and she was so warm, friendly, and professional. TL;Dr - Inspired arrangements with a certain flair, and they take direction on the deliveries well. Price is a little higher than some, but you get what you pay for. I've used these folks in multiple occasions to send my wife flowers at her office. What sets them apart are the arrangements, I think are a step above most of their peers in the area. Definitely more thought goes out into the variety of flowers, the vase, everything. My wife is usually the talk of the office whenever I send one of these over and that's what its all about right? The pricing is a little high, so bear in mind if you have a budget of sub $70, this is probably not for you. Most smaller arrangements will come out to $100 with delivery, so be prepared. On the delivery, I've regularly left instructions that have been always followed, and that is equally important. Would highly recommend these folks to anyone looking for flower deliveries downtown to "extra special" someone's. read more

There is not enough to say about Nigella. Their storefront is in my office building and I often go there to pick up bouquets to get for my now wife. The staff is amazing, friendly, and helpful. In December, 2022 Nigella made the flower arrangements for our wedding. We went in to the store on a Saturday morning and my wife told the owner JR our wedding theme and that him and his team could take complete creative control with our arrangements. Everything looked perfect and my wife was so happy with their work. Nigella flowers always bring a smile to her face and they will bring a smile to yours as well. read more

They completely ignored my request for the flowers to be delivered in the morning- it was a birthday gift and I needed it delivered in the morning. Poor customer service. I have bought several lovely floral bouquets and table centerpieces from this florist. I have seen that they carry beautiful and unusual flowers and do extraordinary, artistic flower arrangements. With that in mind, I enthusiastically hired them to do the flowers at my wedding. I'm sorry to say that, with hindsight, using Nigella for an event was a big mistake. I had been very taken with pictures on their website where the flowers were in a colorful palette they call "peaches and cream". That was what we ordered for my wedding flowers. It was an unwelcome surprise that for my wedding they used predominantly white flowers with a few pale pastel accents. The bridal bouquet they made for me was a too full all-white bunch of limp flowers with abruptly cut off short stems instead of the simple few long-stemmed "peaches and cream" colored flowers we'd specified verbally at the shop. And despite my sending them three emails to confirm that they had noted the kind of bouquet I told them that I wanted, they got it completely wrong. The wedding arch was to have been decorated to match an inspiration photo with a combination of flowers and greenery and while what they did looked nice, they used a small fraction of the flowers shown in the photo upon which they had determined my cost and invoiced me. After the wedding I reached out to JR, the owner, about all of this. I'd hoped that he would help me to understand what had caused them to miss the mark so badly. An apology would have been appreciated, too. Instead, with a dismissive and defensive attitude, he conveyed his opinion that nothing had gone very wrong. He took almost no responsibility for the discrepancies between the orders we agreed to in advance and what they produced. The one exception was that he mentioned that he had considered refunding $60 for the cost of the bouquet, but we both agreed that was hardly a remedy. I would still recommend Nigella for those who are looking for a specific floral item, like a gift bouquet or table centerpiece. They are good at that. For a large event, however, if my experience is any indication, this business cannot be trusted to do what they say they will do, and I don't recommend them. read more

My boyfriend has gotten me flowers from Nigella before and every time, I was in awe at how beautiful the arrangements are. However, this year's Valentine bouquet was FAR BEYOND DISAPPOINTING. I bought and picked up a bouquet on 2/13/24. Upon receiving it I didn't notice that half of the bouquet was already withering/dying. I had bought flowers from Nigella before and this had never happened. I reached out via email and Rubie responded promptly, letting me know they would make it right by sending over a new bouquet by delivery. The new bouquet was stunning and what I expected from Nigella. I understand that it was probably the busiest week of the year for a flower shop but the fact that Nigella was able to make a new bouquet and send it out on V-day shows how much they care about their customers and their experience. They were incredibly communicative and responsive, detail-oriented, and beautifully manifested everything I had imagined and more. What's in a name? Nigella: a plant of a genus that includes love-in-a-mist. After Nigella exceeded mine and my family's expectations this past Tuesday, Nigella has me seriously homesick for the Bay Area. San Francisco is a city, technically, but it isn't. It has a 'small town vibe', made famous by small businesses like Nigella. Listen: no matter the big money that moves into San Francisco, and the corporate flower/delivery players that try (and fail) to enter the floral market in San Francisco, Nigella slays them all. My sister and I wanted to send our sister, who lives in SF, a special floral arrangement for her birthday. She has quite the green thumb now, and succulents have become a passion of hers. We were thinking about sending her an orchid, but after a bit of Yelp research, I found Nigella, a small, blooming San Francisco business, well loved by their customers, and who (Yes!), specializes in botanicals! After perusing their glowing reviews, and further, their website, I knew my sister and I had found our new floral home in the bay area, and THE perfect florist to gift our birthday girl from. The online form was a breeze to fill out, and we appreciated that special delivery notes are seriously considered by Nigella...more on that in a moment. We decided on the lovely succulent terrarium for our sister. Photos on their website do NOT do this arresting succulent terrarium justice, and my sister was thrilled with her gift. It TRULY IS a one-of-a-kind, delightful gift. I would end the review here, but I have more to say about the delivery process: Amazon, and ANY business offering delivery, should take lessons from Nigella on how to go above and beyond, when delivering an item. So, let's be honest: 99.99999999% of the time, when delivery notes are added to a delivery order, they are ignored. Generally speaking, to deliver a package, flowers, a pizza, groceries, etc the vast majority of time, it takes a few extra steps, that require time. Especially with large corporations (yes, I'm looking at you, Amazon), it's become usual practice to ignore the notes and leave the package/item in a place, that saves the most time. If you've had packages stolen from your doorstep, even though your delivery instructions were to explicitly NOT leave the package at your front doorstep, you know what I mean. When my sister requested, in the delivery notes, NOT to leave the item at the door, or in the lobby (as my sister's building has been dealing with massive package theft), but to call me, if the delivery driver couldn't reach anyone on the call box, and I'd make sure my sister was there to receive her delivery. When I spoke to my sister about her delivery notes, we were hoping for the best, but with most deliveries, the driver may not pay attention to the notes, and we'd have to prepare for the worst. The morning of the delivery, around 10am, I called Nigella, just to reiiterate the delivery instructions (Now, I wasn't doing that to be a 'Karen'! I just didn't want her delivery stolen from her building). The woman I spoke with delivered 5 star customer service, and assured me their driver would follow our delivery notes. I crossed my fingers, and dove back into my day. At 2-ish, I received a call from Nigella's delivery driver (!!!! He ACTUALLY called me!), who let me know he was in front of my sister's building, and couldn't reach anyone on the call box. I immediately called my sister, who had taken a nap (hey, it IS her birthday!), but hiked it down to the front gate and was hand-delivered her beautiful terrarium (see photos). I mean.....what delivery company ACTUALLY delivers on their promise, to follow your delivery instructions to a T? VERY FEW. It's akin to a freak sighting of a whale, swimming about in the bay waters. Nigella, THANK YOU, for massively exceeding our expectations, and helping to make our beloved sister's birthday so very special. My sister and I, up here in Portland, will recommend you to our bay area community, and look forward to working with you again, when we order flowers, in the future. You. Rock. read more

Within the same day I had to exchange them because they broke in half. 2 weeks later I found fungus all over both plants. When I took them back to the store I asked for a return. They took the plants and REFUSE TO GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK. It has been a month and I still do not have a credit. The employees in the store state that only the owner can give me a refund. I have called him 4 times. He will not return my call. The employees in the store have an overall attitude of not caring. I had my bridal shower at Nigella and we did a private floral arranging workshop for 10 people. We had an AMAZING time; everyone got to take home their arrangements in their vases, and I couldn't have asked for a more delightful and memorable experience! The workshop: -- Rubie did a wonderful job leading the workshop, providing lots of helpful info about the cut florals and plants. Everyone had fun learning the floral arranging and artistry techniques that she demonstrated; we are all beginners and I could tell that some of my guests are ready to take up floral arranging as a serious hobby. ;) -- JR walked around the group and offered really helpful individual advice and suggestions, and answered questions -- Rubie prepared the workshop florals to match my wedding color scheme, which was such a nice touch! -- We all received some extras like an additional Dalia stem to really elevate everyone's arrangements! -- At the end of the workshop they packed everyone's arrangements into individual travel boxes with tissue paper The event: -- Rubie and JR were so accommodating in every way. They set up a table for me to bring in and serve snacks to my guests, along with providing some space in the back room to store personal affects and keep party supplies out of the way, and had a setup with chairs and stools in their front window for gift opening after the workshop was over. They also lent us a rolling cart for quickly transporting our party items, food, and gift boxes back to our car which was temporarily parked around the corner -- My guests and I had the whole space to ourselves throughout the event which was really fun and awesome -- Their whole space with cut flowers, potted plants, retail items, and window installations is BEAUTIFUL and I didn't need to bring much additional decoration I'm so happy with how thoughtful Rubie and JR were with organizing the event and couldn't be more thankful with how it all turned out. I went into the shop to find a nice arrangement/bouquet for a gift. The selection was nice, but the staff were grouped together making arrangements, and I barely got a short greeting before being ignored. I wasn't even sure who spoke to me, it was off putting. At some point I did get the standard "Let us know if you need anything", but again, I was not sure who said it. I felt like I was interrupting their work. So I grabbed an orchid. From the start, Adama was kind and thoughtful through the intake process. I had a moodboard and rough color scheme (our wedding did not have a theme and was pretty minimal in look and feel). She walked through ideas and provided a clear proposal with flowers in season and talked through price options until I felt comfortable. The team was stellar! Not only were the designs memorable and not over the top (per my minimalist request) but guest were so complimentary of the unique combinations of florals that somehow seemed so "us." They also made sure my bouquet and his boutonniere arrived on time for first look photos, that we decided to do only few days prior to the wedding. We agreed to bring back the vases we rented, as the 4th of July followed our wedding directly. When we arrived at the shop, each employee was so lovely and it was clear we made the right choice.
