John really went above and beyond for us and I'm so grateful we found someone we can trust with our roof and any other future roof maintenance needs. We got a notice of non renewal from our home insurance company. The insurance contact told us we needed to get someone to clean or power wash the roof and show proof to refute the non renewal. Once I got in touch with John, he has been very honest, earnest, and accommodating. John told us not to power wash our roof as it would take off the finish of our cement tiles and damage them - even soft washing would introduce chemicals that I did not want around our house. He asked for the insurance company contact so that he could call them to verify what they needed from us and to tell them a power wash is not recommended. Once he determined what they needed from us, he offered to brush the moss off the roof. I found his assessment of the work and pricing to be extremely fair compared to the 2 other quotes I got. John is just the best. I put together a project through yelp with details and pics to replace a leaking vent. He was the only company out of 5 to respond with an actual estimate without needing to schedule a whole consultation. I assumed it wouldn't be exact since there's likely variables I can't see without removing shingles, but he estimated $300 and charged me $300. While he was replacing the one, he inspected the others and recommended replacement as well (they're old) and did 3 for $800. I work with vendors and contractors regularly, so I see upselling a lot, but John's was genuine and honest. During this last rain storm, I noticed a small leak coming from my skylights. They're pretty old and the glass had lost its seal for a while, so I decided it was time to change them out. I sent out a request for service, and John responded right away. I thought I was out of luck since it was 3-4 days of heavy rain in the forecast, but John came out the same day, within a couple of hours even, and took a look at the damage. He went over what he thought would be the best option, and after a firm handshake, the deal was done. The quote was very competitive and he seemed like a very honest and knowledgeable guy. He and his crew of 1 other returned the next morning, with brand new skylights and rebuilt the frame, changed out a few crumbling shingles, and mounted the new skylights in just a few hours. Needed a flasher installed for bathroom exhaust fan. Maginis was only roofing company that does not charge minimum rate, which is the cost of 3 flasher. John was very response and straight to the point on the phone after sending him roof photos. He was able to squeeze me in next day being only 15 mins from another job. During install John even inspected all other flashers and solar panels making sure screws are all sealant correctly and giving roof maintenance advice. Honestly, I think the work John did was good. However, he ended up costing me a lot of money, as he never provided me with an invoice to submit to my insurance company for reimbursement. I called and texted him multiple times on the same number he used to call me to confirm the appointment. But he never answered the phone, nor did he ever return my calls and texts. I worked with John (owner) of Maginis roofing. I found him on homeadvisor.com. The initial setup was very easy. I got a call from their customer service rep who was very polite and easy to explain the problem to. She then had John call me the following day to setup the appointment. (I have to say that homeadvisor does a very stupid thing of cancelling the appt if the provider does not contact the user within a set time. So other than that, the setup was very quick). When John actually came to inspect my roof, it was great to interact with him in person. He is honest, hard working and has a lot of experience with roofing and gutters. He inspected all aspects of my roof which were on roughly 3-4 different levels. Some he got onto, while others he visually inspected. He repaired a large 2-3ft gaping hole on my garage roof through which rats were entering. He put the tiles in place, and used glue to keep them there. He also fixed the chimney which looked like had been compressed down. He put some black trash bags to fill in the cap around the chimney to prevent rats crawling in. Its been 2 months since this job and NO RATS! So ***** 5 Stars for this repair! GREAT JOB JOHN! Then he went onto my 2nd story roof to inspect it and reported there were no issues. He also visually inspected all of the other tiles and said that everything else looked in good shape. This completed the roof inspection. So thanks again. I also had an issue with one of my gutters that had come away from the wall. he removed 8 tiles at the problem site, and re-screwed/nailed the gutter back in place. A definite improvement from what it was previously so thanks! Unfortunately there is still a gap between the two the metal gutters at the joint, which still leaks in the middle instead of through the drain. I noticed this a lot during the January rains. So the problem is just alleviated and not solved which is what I would have liked. For all the above, the repair, full roof inspection and gutter repair, I paid $300. I do not know if thats a good price or a great price or too much. All I know is that at that time I was able to afford it and it was a little less than what I was expecting (first time roof repair) so i have to say it was a good price.
