I think 2 is generous! I went to Magic Nails Because I needed a little pick-me-up, and Whom doesn't like pretty toe. Well, the hot towel wraps felt amazing. The leg massage was meh. But the pedi? You know how they trim and then shape and then maybe trim the cuticles (or push back... or something). I had the same rough dead cuticles that I came in with. And a crappy gel painting... all over my skin(and not removed and cleaned up) and it didn't even last a week. And a weird pay schedule. Like the fee I was charged wasn't on their pricing board... I paid 60$ for the 35 minute of ____? (Nothing) It's a no from now on! read more

We have been going to Magic nails since my girls were 4 and 6 years old. When my youngest was 12 she struggled with OCD and she asked the lady to paint eyes on her nails. She did and one was smaller than the other two and she struggled with that. She was polite and we thanked her and I left a extra nice tip because I knew it was a challenging request. We haven't gotten our nails done now for 3 years and my youngest is now 15. I made an appointment there to get her nails done as a treat for her birthday. She took the appointment. When we walked in on her birthday she said "no. I won't do your nails you are too picky." And we had to leave. While I respect the right for people to set boundaries when they feel they are being disrespected or ill-treated but I think that banning a person for life after having a hard experience in adolescence is over-the-top. I would have been fine with all of it and just booked another location without having to humiliate her in public on her birthday and also at the time we planned for and drove out there is ridiculous. Keep computer records of your clients and call me back and tell me you won't take her so we can go somewhere else instead of waiting until we show up just to tell us you won't take care of us. It was shocking and my daughter was so embarrassed. She said "mom, I'm not even the same person I was when I was 12!" I told her we will go to LA Nails at Rosedale and forget about it. We did and they did an awesome job. We got in right away and she got gorgeous birthday nails. Very disappointed in shaming my child and how the entire situation was handled. read more

I have to say I'm quite pleased! And I'm not always too pleased with quick, walk in and see if they can squeeze ya in nail salons. I'm notorious for waiting till a nail is badly chipped and my manicure is so banged up that I can't possibly go another day without getting them done. After the nail place by my house was too busy and told me to come back tomorrow, I looked for the next closest one. They quickly fit me in! As I was getting my usual powder dip nail stuff soaked off, Monica started telling me about a liquid Gel that they had, suggesting that it would be much healthier for my nails being that it doesn't have to be removed each time, but Field like or acrylic nails are done. The powder dip is the only thing that has lasted on my nails, Gel nail polish rarely lasts a week for this and chronic handwashing girl! With the liquid gel stuff, I can pick any mail color available. That opened a huge selection of choices for me and I love being extra picky about what color goes on my nails each time! Not only was Monica sweet and cool about me being extra picky about my nail shape, and they turned out absolutely beautiful and I even hesitated putting a color on at all! It looks so natural in both shape and color after she put the liquid gel on them. I think this is by far the best my "natural" nails have looked from any salon so far!! I'm looking forward to seeing how they last and the condition of my nails with this stuff versus powder dip. I'll definitely be back! Today I went in with my mom. It was our first time going there. I got a full set manicure with design, it was $50. $40 for full set because I had no nails and $10 for the design. My mom got a manicure but she already had her nails from the last place we went to so it was $30 for her manicure, she got changing nail color. And she also got a pedicure for $26. It's a nice place, didn't really like the way my nails where done, it wasn't a clean look. Also be prepared to be there for some time, they are very meticulous on their work. But overall okay place. I feel like designs is not their strong point but if you are going for something simple then this place does the job. read more

5 star Mani-- I got my nails filled and he completely fixed them...while making a comment about how this place "does a better job than those other guys." The man speaks the truth. I did a gel polish and it stayed on FOREVER while looking perfect. I couldn't stop looking at my nails. He does a much better job than "the other guys" and for a SUPER reasonable price. This place pretty much fit my bill for a nail place w/ cheap and good service. I called in for an appointment, which is kinda pointless because it's basically first come first serve. Once I got there I was worried that I wasn't going to be helped right away but he had me pick out a color and started the spa bath. I sat right down in the 'massage chair' and spa bath and enjoyed reading about celebrities while he finished with the other customers. They do a pretty good job of juggling each customer. Communication was kinda difficult. Its really hard to understand them on the phone let along in person. If I would have gotten a French pedi it would've been nearly impossible to tell him exactly how I wanted it. (I'm picky when it comes to French tips) However, I just got one color so it wasn't a big deal . Brian gave me the WHOLE sha-bang when it came to the "spa-pedi". Spa-bath, steam towels on my feet, dead skin removed, massaging of the calves, salt scrub on calves and feet, the cheap lotion etc. The only thing that didn't go perfect was the way my toe nails were shaped, kinda flat and didn't all match. I'll admit, probably my fault for not saying anything or noticing at first. The place wasn't a luxury spa. It was just a normal nail salon w/ no swanky atmosphere. All the old ladies who came in knew him by name and he recognized each one. It was cute. I'll definitely go back there when I need a pedicure again. Brian was great! read more

Eh. This place is pretty run down, but usually does a great job. I don't think Brian is there anymore- can't seem to get service in a reasonable amount of time. They often only have 1 or 2 folks working and say they will be right with you but 20 mins later I'm still waiting. The mani was well done but was peeling the next day. The pedi was fantastic and the polish is still holding strong almost a month later. Atmosphere is odd, it's just a weird part of New Brighton/Minneapolis but the people were great and it is super close to my house. The guy that did my nails was super fast and took breaks during my pedi to help some of his regular customers who had been waiting a long time for eyebrow waxing (it was a busy day). I am not much of a talker when it comes to getting my nails or hair done and he didn't seem to mind that I was so quiet. I would definitely go again but just for a pedicure (my home manicures last a lot longer). VERY inexpensive so I tipped well. Great service, just make sure you are ready to wait if it is busy, they have a limited staff and it is pretty much first come first serve (even with an appointment). read more

Terrible! I called ahead and she told me the best time for a walk in. I did a walk in. They asked what I wanted and I told them. I wanted gel pedi and mani...of course they want to offer the massage .. didn't need it but go ahead. The lady doing the pedi refuse to cut my pinky toenail. I had to cut it myself. It's just had a lil extra growth. No one has EVER had a problem cutting it down. Then the nail tech was was so sloppy. I broke a pinky nail and she REFUSED to fix it saying she's booked and I was coming at a bad time. I just went somewhere else. THEN I wanted a fill just because I like the same person to do a fill. Usually after that I pop them off and start over. She flat out refused service. No reason I can find. I didn't complain about anything. It's a pretty dusty dirty ran nail shop. My first walk in a relative was there and said she does a job, that's the only reason I didn't walk right out! If you have standards don't go here! read more

Super nice lady but I'm just being honest, the work is sloppy. I got dip nails and had so much left over around my cuticles and a thick layer under my nails. Also the shiny coat on my nail lacked on some areas so I came home and had to put a shiny coat on myself. Their prices is less than many other places but I guess the quality of work kind of explains why. At least she's super nice. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I have tried this salon a couple times now as they are close to my house. The first time I asked for coffin shaped nails and they came out completely crooked and lopsided. Not to mention two of them broke within 24 hours of having them done and when I went back in the next day to have them fixed, they charged me $5 a nail. Today I went in after scheduling an appointment at 430, I got there at 435. I asked for a simple French tip on coffin shaped nails and was told the technician was not able to do that because she wasn't trained and could only do solid colors, French tips are one of the most common requests in nail salons. If they can't do that, I definitely don't trust them to put permanent gel on my fingers. Tiny salon that is poorly run and terrible customer service. Not to mention I took mandarin in college and she cussed at me as I was walking out, presumably thinking I couldn't understand. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

I went to Magic Nails three weeks ago and it was my first time since the new ownership, I was very happy! For $30 I got a manicure with Gel color changing polish and a complimentary paraphane wax on my hands. My nail polish lasted for two weeks with minimal wear. Did I mention that they have Color Changing Gel Polish! Call me crazy but I get a kick out it and it can be difficult to find a shop that carries it. I will definitely be back! read more

Very much disliked this place and would never go back!!!! When we got there (3 of us) there was only 1 person working. 30 minutes later a second person came. There were 7 people at the nail place while we were first there. Instead of them telling you that they are busy they sit you down to soak your feet. We soaked ours for well over an hour!!!! It took over 2.5 hours to get out of there! I'm from out of town and this is the worst place I've been to! The nail design was so tragic also!!! A true hidden gem in Northeast Minneapolis! I was trying to find a local nail salon without spending the time and money required for hair salons that do nails. Unfortunately, there are a few nail salons in the area that have been reviewed less than favorably on Yelp. But then I discovered Magic Nails. I called on a Saturday morning and they got me in right away for a mani/pedi. Located in a rather run-down strip mall, I wasn't sure I would be happy there ... until I walked through the door and was greeted so warmly by the staff. Nancy was amazing and treated me to the best pedicure I've had in years! The chairs are retro-wonderful, and their cleanliness is top rate. I truly enjoyed my mani/pedi experience and definitely be back! I love supporting small, local businesses. They may not have the flash of the chains, but they make up for it in personality and attention to detail! read more

I went here to get a fill... the place I originally went to get my nails done- I wasn't impressed by so I decided to go here. It was close to home and had alright reviews. I was a walk-in and had to wait about a half hour because only one person was working. I am amazed at how my nails turned out. Not only did Brian do a great job (they look like a piece of art) but he had to correct my extremely messed up nails from the previous place. He had his work cut out for him. He also was able to combine all of my requests, and ideas which was awesome. I told him what I would like and he out-did himself. It was relatively cheap too for how long he had worked on them (correcting the terrible full gel set before). The only thing I don't know yet is how long the polish will last. If it lasts the full time with minor chipping I will be back for sure..Very happy customer so far! read more

These reviews MUST be fake because this place is s hole in the wall and highly overpriced. I went in for my first ever gel overlay and deluxe pedi , I chose here because of the previous reviews and its rating..also it is nearby. The pedi was great - however the pedi spa chairs are all extremely worn and tattered, and most functions of my massager didn't work. The shop was very small, and dirty. The nail polish selection is terrible, small, and lacks variety. I was charged $35 for a gel overlay, where pricing lists that as the same price for a fullset. Not only was I over charged for my overlay,I was informed by my newest technician I was NOT given gel at all. Just a clear gel polish finish. And to top it off, the employees were very rude, cold and distant. Not a relaxing environment. I spent most of my pedi watching hulu, rather than attempting to be social and building a long term relationship with them. Such a rip off and scam. I highly recommend you go to Golden Nails down the street if you're looking for something in this area. This place is a waste of your money. read more

I have gone to Magic Nails for many years as a loyal customer. I am very unhappy with the quality since ownership has changed. The previous owners, Bryan and Thanh always did such a wonderful job, but the new ladies (who seem very sweet and give great pedicures, at least) have done a horrible job on my acrylic full set of nails. I even gave them a second chance just to be certain. After getting my full set and later my first fill, I would have to go home and file my own nails to get the shape and length even. The acrylic is very thick as they don't seem to use the fine dremel tool to file them and I've had a lot of "lifting". Now, about a month later, I am developing a dark spot under a couple of the nails that I fear is fungus. In the many years I've had acrylics on, I've never once had this happen, only heard horror stories about it. I've since started going to a cute little place in St. Anthony Village and they seem to do a much better job overall. I'm sad to lose my "regular" nail spot because of a lack of quality/skill, but having my nails done is a special splurge and I will not continue to go somewhere that doesn't treat it as such. Hopefully they can turn things around. I will say that the shop is much cleaner and decorated nicely, compared to before- but I'll take quality of service over ambiance any day. read more
