I had the best experience with Magic Moving! Everyone on the team was professional, accommodating and organized. Referred by a friend, I hired Magic to move a 15x40 LOADED public storage full of furniture, antiques, boxes, glassware, fragile artwork and sports equipment from Livermore, Ca to Texas. They meticulously organized, packed inventoried, wrapped and efficiently moved everything first to their Storage Warehouse and then on to Georgetown, TX. They were detailed and took very good care of my stuff! They communicated and updated me along the way en route to Texas. Upon delivery they put all the boxes where I asked, reassembled all my furniture even though they didn't disassemble any of it. They unpacked my artwork, padded and protected my new home, everything stellar! I had a horrible experience with the moving company who moved my stuff into the public storage, so this move was not only impressive but an incredible stress-free experience. My primary guidance is they work on a time and material basis but they do not tell you this when you are a prospect. They sent us pricing which I (incorrectly) believed was a quote, but later learned they treat only as a price data sheet. Once they engage on the move (the day of the move), they feel completely entitled and enabled to use any and all of the possible services on that sheet as they see fit. In our case, they visited our new house before the move and decided to reorganize the move (both without telling us) in such a way that the amount of time spent in the truck was doubled. Coincidentally (not really), the time spent in the truck was, as I recall, almost double all other time. The net of this experience is that the total cost of the move was double the price expectation they signaled to me when sending their quote (mean price data sheet). Explaining this with the back office team after the move was the worst of all. My concerns were met with defiant, derisive and condescending responses. I will not engage Magic moving the next time I move, life is to short to deal with such behaviors. Our move was almost 4 years ago, its taken some time for me to formulate these thoughts. read more

I was very disappointed in using magic movers. As I was unpacking I found boxes of glassware broke. Vase broke and canisters that my mother n law gave me. I did send a email. Quoted me a price of $350 for less than an hours worth of work to bring an armoire (chest dresser ONLY) from my downstairs to upstairs. I was scheduled for delivery the next day, but I received an email the evening prior requesting another $100.00 bringing my total to $450 to move a single item. In the end they did me a favor because I found a reasonable company not seeking greed who is only charging me $200. I would not recommend a company who doesn't stick to their word and calls last minute to price gauge. Keep browsing people & you will find affordability & quality! I verbal agreement was by phone where $350 was set as they said they were doing me a "favor" by reducing the flat rate initially. However, after sending the photo of my Armoire as requested; later.. the evening prior to the movers coming; I was sent an email that read: "We aren't able to do the move". READ BEFORE MAGIC MOVING HIDES THIS REVIEW. They have 145 hidden BAD reviews, making their overall rating look 'good' on their website. This is the worst company I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. We were under pressure to move quickly and asked for a recommendation from a reputable colleague. She now knows never to refer them to anyone further. This company's pricing structure is very deceptive. They charge a minimum of $7000+ and then an additional amount for each additional pound over their minimum. How in the world would we as a customer estimate poundage? Good companies, such as Allied Moving, who we have used in the past, would have come out to give us an accurate estimate. Magic Moving did no such thing. They were quick to make the sale and take our money. We wound up paying double what we had anticipated. $13,000+!! RIP OFF! I'd since been told what a scam many moving companies are when they offer to have you witness the weighing. I call bullsh** for this, as we'd have had to drive 2 hours to witness said weighing while in the middle of a big move. Upon arrival at our destination, they dropped our washer, damaging it (worth $1500 and they offered us $150 for it with the NOT generous $100 additional. WOW!) The attached photo shows the depreciation value of a 5 year old $1500 washer. $562.50. Thanks for the $250. SCAMMERS. In trying to communicate with them after the fact, nobody ever bothered to respond to my emails, questioning their convoluted verbiage regarding the claim. Whoever David is, calling from 'unknown number', he really blew it additionally as a representative of this horrible company by threatening to sue me if I didn't take my bad review down, calling me a narcissist and a troll and ending his message by calling me a bit**. The funny thing is, there was no review, and coming from 'unknown caller' I did not have the pleasure of returning his call. This is the worst experience I've ever had with any business. They would not come out and give an estimate because of (Covid). They told us they didn't need to because they were professionals. When they came over to pack us they never mentioned that it was going to be a lot more than they said. We sold three rooms of furniture before the move and yet the price was 3 times higher than they said. If you're going to move out of California please check out your mover, there are a bunch of unscrupulous contractors out there. MM&S packed up our 1700 sqft house into a 26' truck in just one day. And they moved us to our new home 40 miles away the next. Not one thing was broken or scratched. Absolutely an amazing service. Two excellent crews, excellent customer service, and fast. Removing the empty boxes and paper after the move was hard, but we hired someone to take it all away. I would not recommend Magic Moving & Storage. At first, we thought things were going to go well. The movers arrived on time and prepared for the move by wrapping furniture and putting down mats to protect the carpet. The movers were very friendly. Our complaints have to do with the aftermath of the move. First, we were charged much more than we were originally led to expect. The job came in at almost double our quote, despite the fact that we were very explicit about the amount to be moved. The biggest problem is the damage done. They ripped the top of one of our cabinets off. They precariously put it back together, balancing the pieces, so that, at first glance, it appeared fine. It was only later that we realized it was essentially destroyed, unfixable. They also lost a box of valuable items. We have now contacted the company several times, hoping for some sort of recompense, and have received no response at all. read more

The woman I spoke with was friendly, kind, and clearly communicated the price to me. They were able to assist my moving needs. I was quoted $159/hr with a minimum of six hours (including drive time). She also clearly told me how much it would be if they went into OT which I appreciated because since I was doing move from one city to another, it helped me have a full picture of my potential cost. We contracted with Magic Movers to move our belongings from our previous home and storage unit to our new home, the time of which was estimated to be 8 hours. We discussed and agreed upon these details, including the items that needed to be moved, prior to signing a contract. Shortly after the move began at our previous home, a dresser that was part of a match set, was damaged to the point of being unusable. While loading the rest of the items from our previous home, the truck was not packed in such a way that there was room left for the items in the storage unit. When we arrived at the storage unit, they initially refused to load any of the items. After a difficult conversation, they began loading random items and stopped after the storage unit was only partially emptied, leaving several larger items which were not possible to move without a moving truck. This move happened under quarantine protocols and, at various points throughout the move, masks were left off entirely. Upon receiving our initial complaint, Magic Movers has been uncommunicative and will not respond to messages, phone calls, or voicemails. They did not complete the job we contracted them to do, they did not complete it in the time frame discussed, they damaged our belongings, and did not follow COVID safety protocols that were agreed upon. My experience with Magic was great! I needed to store my stuff for a couple of months in between my two homes. Movers were quick but very careful, very respectful. Well - it has been a year and not a word from the owner of Magic Moving! He stood in our home in La Quinta and assured us we would be made whole. He even told insurance adjusters same story. The moving truck ran off the road on the way to our new home on La Quinta. We actually drove to accident site off of Hwy 5 in the middle of nowhere. There was NO ravine as he had told us. WORST MOVING COMPANY I HAVE EVER USED. THIEFS, LIERS, AND INCOMPETENT. SO BAD THEY ARE A DISGRACE TO THE TRADE. The only "MAGIC" involved is how their charges (qouted hours) change the day of the move when they know they have you and you have no choice (can you say bait and switch) and how they make your belongings disappear. The truth is in my review and based on facts. Jan L was not involved with my move and was no where on site the day of the move. I experienced the incompetence and deceitfulness of this company and employees first hand. I am not surprised by the company's rebuttal to a complaint, it just once again proves their lack of integrity and unwillingness to take responsibility for their actions and actions of their employees. Initially when I called to book the move I was very clear on the scope of the project. 1. The move had to be completed the day the move was scheduled. 2. My house was sold and I was moving to my new house. 3. Move involved 3200 SqFt 4 bd, 3bth home, dining room, patio furniture, furniture and two mirrors to be wrapped for storage and boxes and furniture in the garage. I never stated I was quoted 4 hours, however I was told on the phone it would be under 8, but probably around 6. When their people came out he said it would not be done under 8. When their guy onsite said more than 8, I offered all 4 men an extra 100. tip on top of the 50.00 each I gave them if they could keep it under 8. If Jan wants to call that a bribe, well I think she needs to look up the definition of "bribe". I thought it would be an incentive to hustle, but when your getting double time I guess it has no incentive value. Having to call for 4 hours until they finally decided to bring another guy to the job that could actually do the job while I had to continue to pay for someone that could not and would not do the job is unacceptable. If they would have sent the appropriate number of competent individuals for my size of job, I believe I would not have went into overtime. I PACKED AND COLOR CODED EVERY BOX MYSELF PRIOR TO THE DAY OF THE MOVE. THEY PACKED NOTHING! I am a very organized person and as you can see by my picture, I color coded each box with duct tape and wrote the location (storage/garage) on each one so there would be no mistake of the placement. Blue tape - Storage, Pink tape - Fragile, Black + white tape - Garage. By color coding and writing on each box, I was hoping it would be clear enough that even a monkey could figure it out. The only items not packed were my husbands tools which we moved in his truck and the movers didn't have to deal with it at all. As for your accusation about what was to be moved or what could stay and myself not knowing what was to be moved and your statements of me changing my mind. 1. Look at your notes from when I called and set up the move. I explained, I had to be out by midnight the day of the move. The person on the phone offered a different date and I told them I could not move a different day that the day scheduled was the last possible day I could move because the buyers of my home were moving in the next day. 2. NEVER ONCE DID I SAY DO NOT MOVE SOMETHING. I made it EXPLICITLY clear that everything had to be moved as I had to be out of my house by 12 midnight. This was stated to your head mover when he did his walk through and two more times during the move. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT! When the truck was loaded and we left to the new house, your moving truck left the same time as we did, BUT SHOWED UP 30 MINUTES AFTER WE DID. I even called your office and asked where they were. I'm sure 30 minutes is plenty of time to drop some items they wanted. By the way, I paid overtime for that 30 they were missing. Jan, tell me how I could be under construction when I only got the keys to the new house at 10:00am the morning of the move. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT and stop lying to try and deflect your incompetence and incompetence of your business and employees. The FACT is... your crew didn't have to put anything in the house except my bed and flatscreen TV's. I told them to place the items as they were coded in the shop and the garage as I was going to start a remodel in the coming weeks. So, this should have been very easy because all they had to do was put the furniture and boxes marked storage (blue tape) in the shop and a few boxes (black+white tape) in the garage. Most everything was moved into the shop. This company and employees need to take responsibility and make things right. AT THE VERY LEAST I WOULD LIKE MY STOLEN ITEMS RETURNED. Magic Moving did a great job on my move from our old house to our new home. The truck showed up on time and after a quick walk through to scope out the move, the movers got to work. They were careful with each item and wrapped things thoroughly. Once we arrived to the new home, I did a walk through with the driver and then the guys got to work--nearly all items were put exactly where I wanted them. Then the next day the cable was installed and when the tv was turned on, I discovered the screen on my smart tv was damaged...1/4 of my screen looks like a Picasso painting. Geno, David and Omar are awesome. The company called me when the crew was on the way. They got to work promptly and took great care to not damage the doorway and walls. They covered the door with a moving mat and put runner runners down on the carpet. We did a lot of packing ourselves and they grabbed our boxes without hesitation. I had a couple things to go elsewhere and they were kind enough to stage them for me. The crew was easy to talk to and I didn't feel creeped out by any of them. DO NOT DEPEND ON THIS COMPANY. We moved from Hayward to Walnut Creek with a clear system in mind. The process should have taken 2.5 hours at most. The movers who arrived intentionally extended the time to 3.5 hours AND charged us for 4.5 hours citing travel times. To be clear, NONE of this was mentioned in the initial call. We clearly stated that: - We needed to to make two stops: a storage unit where everything was moving ready with the exception of a few items that needed to be wrapped and then to the current apartment to pick up items that were ready to be moved. - We were told $149/hr. We mentioned the multiple stops and were given no information about double time or travel fees. - As the first stop was at a storage unit (and arrival window is within a two hour period), we were told that we would receive a courtesy call. We received no such call. The movers said they'd arrived at 7:30, they called at 7:46, we arrived at 7:54. We would have been there if we'd received the call as we were only 10 minutes up the SAME STREET. - When my partner got to the storage unit, they were parked wrong so she had to wait several minutes for them to adjust that and then another 10-15 minutes for them to adjust the ramp. There were FOUR MOVERS. So essentially, 40 minutes were wasted on their own incompetence. We were charged for that. - while waiting for the movers and my partner to return to the apartment (stop 2), My sister-in-law and I moved everything from the bedroom that was packed up to the parking lot to reduce time required to pack the truck since they were taking so long at the storage unit. - they arrived at 8:45am to the apartment and moved very slowly - picking up one box or bag at a time, when we'd moved everything (2 of us) in 15 minutes. They took nearly an hour. - then they were slow to unload into the apartment - finished at 11am (7:30-11 is not 4 hours). And it should be 8-11 AT THE MOST - they were lagging, seemed uninterested and underenergized - meaning they seemed like I do after a long night. Which is fine but so your job. - I held my tongue for the sake of professional courtesy. What should have taken 2.5 hours, took 3.5 AND they charged us 4.5, with FOUR MOVERS by adding additional minutes to their arrival AND included the time we were on the phone to dispute the charges with management. First off I checked out Multiple moving companies. These guys offered the lowest price but also the lowest number of movers. Everyone else...about 5 bids ....had 4 movers..these guys said all I needed was 3. Hindsight they would have been wrong. I chose these guys for the price and because I was in a good spot. I had my new house and old house for 2 weeks.....so I figured I could move a bunch before these guys got here. I basically needed them for the hard to move and the bulk items..ie boxed up stuff. I did all the pictures, delicate kitchenware, TV's and even some take apart items like kids beds. So I was very confident the 3 movers would get our house moved in the 6 hour minimum....we were only moving 12 miles away...Castro Valley to San Ramon. We were told the day before to be ready between 7 and 8am. And we were....up at 5:00 am to get all the last ditch items packed and the kid shipped off to a sitter for the day. Imagine getting a call from a panicked driver at 8am...telling me everything was going wrong....but don't worry we will be there by 10am....WTF...but ok...there goes our few hours of no traffic and cooler temperatures. I make two more trips in my truck to lesson the load. It's going to be 105 today in San Ramon. 10am comes...nothing....10:30 I call the driver back...nothing..no answer....11:00 am try again...same results....I call the website number and get someone that says they are a call service only ...that can only fax info to Magic Movers at this point....WTF....no one communicates by fax ....getting worried. 11:00...nothing 11:30....nothing.... Holy crap...what are we going to do? It's Saturday and we have to be out by Wednesday...you cant get a mover by then...you cant even get a rental truck to DIY ...as I freaked out and started calling friends and rental truck places..... The wife is crying...its freaking hot.... 12:00 Magic Mover guy calls and says they will be there in 45 mins....oh my...I'm so mad at this point but so relieved something is going to happen.... Between my wife and I we have about 60 years in military service so have been moved many times more than the average couple. To say that this company is the absolute worst in our vast experience is an understatement. Unfortunately they were recommended by our real estate agent. They only moved us 2 miles for a 3 bedroom home and only the major furniture. We packed everything else ourselves. In spite of that they charged us almost $1,000 more than the quote through overtime, which resulted from a visible effort to bust the 8 hour OT demarcation. At hour 13, and at $2.5K, my wife just kicked them out in spite of half the furniture not being put together. My family were in tears due to the stress.. Then they damaged my brand new $3,000 refrigerator, new patio furniture, and the walls at my new house. Have now written to them 4 times to put in a claim...crickets... The staff was unprofessional, treating our new appliances like garbage and putting stainless steel components on bare floors in the garage. Every other word out of their mouths were curses, even with my 13 year old daughter present. They emptied all of my daughters candy without permission, throwing wrappers all over the front of my house. My wife had to walk up and down the street picking up their garbage in our new neighborhood. They left all kinds of garbage all over the old house as well. The only magic in this moving company is how they took our quote, and presto-chango; just about doubled it through invisible effort. Oh yeah, and the disappearing act they did when trying to put in a claim for the damages they caused. Maybe for their next act they could do their industry and consumers a favor, and magically disappear as a company. read more

They showed up. My belongings did not show up. I had jewelry stolen. Missing items from my kitchen and linens. Broken China. Three 11 year old boys showed up later in the day. They didn't help load or pack. Why were they there. Worst movers we've ever had move us. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY- I was given a quote over the phone based on the size of my apartment. I told Nancy that I had a lot of stuff and that I needed someone to come out. She said that they don't do that. So I hired them and the move was estimated at 8 hours with 3 guys moving us. After 8 hours they weren't done and were going to leave because they said that that's what the contract read. We had to have another guy come out and sign another contract. The rest of the move took another 6 hours. The crew was fast and didn't take a lot of breaks but a new 3 litter bottle of olive oil has never turned up or two of my husbands golf hats. Also we had a small chest freezer that we kept on a furniture dolly outside on our deck. When they moved the freezer they didn't put my dolly into garage. I had stuff in storage and told them to put all that stuff in the garage. By the time I cleared out the garage and realized that the dolly never made it to our new home, I called the company and spoke with Nancy. When I told her what happened she just laughed. She did nothing to replace my brand new dolly and blew off the fact that items were missing. We had this company do all our packing and moving and while I had all the food put away the first week, I was hoping to still fine the missing items somewhere in a different box. (ie olive oil) Well now that every box has been emptied those items are still missing. DO NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE! read more

My husband called Magic Moving for our move from Discovery Bay to Pleasanton. We were originally quoted a total of $1700. That price was already higher than we've paid before, but supply and demand and inflation prices etc fine. We anticipated a max of $2000 including tips. We had 4 movers who were nice and nothing against them personally. Most didn't speak English so my husband spent a lot of time (on the clock) repeating instructions and explaining...keeping in mind everything we had was already packed and ready to go yet they kept asking "does this go?" At least one worker took breaks during the move and was on his phone in our new house. They also packed our custom wood pieces and some broke (didn't know that until after they left). At the end of the long day, we were hit with a $2500+ bill NOT including tips. Suddenly there was all this "overtime" and "double travel time fee". Why was this all not part of our estimate?? For the estimate and actual bill to have a difference of $800......something is not right. I've called the number 4 times. 2 times they say "I can contact the office to have someone call you" ...why not connect me directly? Both times, no one called me back. The other 2 times I spoke with the same person and got no where. I asked both times to speak with a manager and still waiting over a week later. Avoid this company if you can! read more

Wouldn't recommend them as Magic broke a couple antiques that couldn't be replaced. Was compensated nowhere what they were worth. Little to no response from customer service. If you have any valuables, move them yourself. read more

I'm going to fair as possible and only state the facts and not emotions. I've used MM twice. 1st time was wonderful. MM did a great job! 2nd time I used them was 5 weeks ago. Move went off pretty well until they arrived at the new location. This review is all based around the movers putting 2 very noticable dents in our brand new $2,400 refridgerator. The head mover took pics and said he would report to his boss "Nancy" and that i` could follow up with "Nancy" in a few days. I moved on a Thursday and followed with "Nancy" on Monday morning. "Nancy" requested that `i send pics and the claim form she just sent me back to them asap. Did both immediately. I spoke to "Nancy" 2 weeks ago via phone and she said "she's still waiting on the insurance company to make a decision on the claim". I called today and was forced to leave a message for "Nancy" to call me back and NO call back. My refrigdgerator is still dented on the front panels and MM has DONE nothing to right their wrong. I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN AND I HAVE PLANS TO ACTUALLY FILE A SMALL CLAIMS IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY AGAINST THEM FOR THE REPAIR OF THE DAMAGES THAT THEY WERE AT FAULT FOR. read more
