Magic Alterations - Two generations, one dress. 1996 to 2024 - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Roselle, Illinois

I used Magic Alterations for my wedding in September and I HIGHLY recommend. I actually found her on Yelp! I had 2 dresses for my wedding due to my ceremony train being so long. Dora fit both dresses to me perfectly. I felt so secure and beautiful all day long. For my reception dress, I had a specific vision of changing the whole neckline to a straight across and shorting so I can dance. She walked me through every step and made sure I got exactly what I was looking for. I received so many compliments on her work! Her pricing is very reasonable and her turnaround time is great. Not only did I have her alter these two wedding dresses, she altered 2 more dresses for me for upcoming weddings and she did a great job. I highly recommend Dora and Magic Alterations. read more

Dora is friendly, fast and very efficient with her work! I bought my wedding dress from Here Comes The Bride but their minimum for alterations was way too expensive. So I did some looking around and found Magic Alterations. Lucky me because Dora was able to let out the top of my dress and replace my bra cups to accommodate for my large bust. My dress fit me like a glove and made me feel so special! Dora is passionate about her work and I highly recommend her services. read more

Dora was amazing, she lives up to the name, Magic Alterations. I took my dress to a different tailor, and it was a wreck, almost destroyed. Dora took on my dress and fixed all of the mistakes from the previous tailor. she did a wonderful job on the dress. I bought the floor sample, and it was pretty big in some places. She took in the top, fixed the bra cups, hemmed the dress, adjusted the straps and added a bustle. The Dress turned out so wonderful. I truly felt beautiful and it would not be possible without Dora. She was so kind and understanding. I liked how she did multiple fittings to ensure everything fit before moving down the dress. I highly recommend Magic alterations for wedding dresses, and I will be back with any other alterations I need in the future. read more

I am so happy a friend referred me to Dora for my wedding dress alterations. My wedding dress was 3 sizes too big, had a lot of lace detailing and I was worried how the dress would look after all of the changes needed. The dress came out better than I could have ever imaged! Dora does incredible work, I never felt nervous that my dress was in the wrong hands or that it wouldn't turn out properly. You can tell she has a lot of pride in her work and won't stop until it is perfect. Dora was extremely flexible and made this part of wedding planning so easy. She also hemmed a couple of bridesmaid dresses for me and it was the best hem job on a bridesmaid dress I've ever had. If you are worried trying to find the perfect person to do your wedding dress alterations - look no further! read more

Dora did a great job on my daughters wedding dress and a mother of the bride dress for me, she was timely and the price was so good! She was very flexible with appointment times also which helped. Dora altered my wedding dress for me and did an amazing job. We met serendipitously before I was even engaged, I saved her card and looked her up. She had told me "if you find a dress that isn't perfect, I can make it what you want!" and sure enough, the dress my Mom and I liked best wasn't perfect, and she made it so beautiful and flattering. I purchased a now discontinued style from BHLDN, the straps were too tank-top-y and I wanted them thinner and more at the edge of my shoulders, and this wasn't as easy as it sounded! The dress was two layers and had intricate flower applique she had to carefully cut and resew. I also wanted more of a kick to the bottom of the dress, slightly mermaid style and she was able to add a crinoline inbetween the two layers so it wouldn't be uncomfortable against my skin and it completely improved the look of the dress! I was so happy with that effect. It made me feel much more "bridal" than before and was an aspect of the dress I felt I was missing with the original style. Dora also made my veil, it was great to have her measure it perfectly, discuss options (we went super simple since the dress was so detailed) and it was perfect. Dora was so sweet, reasonably priced and timely with her alterations. We had almost 10 months in total to do all of the changes which was nice not to feel rushed, for both of us. I highly recommend her for simple to advanced alterations, she is just wonderful and I miss seeing her every few months! read more

Dora is the absolute best ever!!! I've been taking bridesmaid dresses, formal dresses, and other clothes here for years and she always knows exactly what to do to make the most out of your pieces. Her pricing is fair, turn around is fairly quick (obviously giving her ample time to accommodate), and appointments never take long. We are so lucky to have her in Roselle! read more

Dora was very attentive to my wedding dress! I was extremely nervous because the sales woman at Anthropologie said the tailor would need to remove a whole chunk of embroidery, but Dora was able to shorten the dress a few inches without removing any embroidery. It fits amazing, feels great, looks amazing! I would highly recommend Dora! read more

When I first showed up at Dora's door with this wedding dress that need so much work I thought I had a vision of this dress in my head on how I need it to took. The dress was way to poofy and probably like 4x to small but I loved this dress. Dora took this dress and blew it way past my vision she turn my dress into something I loved. When I first put it on I was so sad it was such a pretty dress that didn't fit. But when I put the dress on at my last fitting I felt like Cinderella. I've never felt more beautiful. I was never looking more forward to wearing a dress in my life. Now if only I could wear this ever day and not get weird looks! I also needed dresses for my wedding for my girls. I couldn't find anything that matched in store and it was frustrating Dora took it into her own hands and made me the most adorable matching dressing! They looks amazing! I got married last Wednesday on the beach and everyone was telling how cute the looked! I've never been more happy with a place in my life. I'll be bringing everything here!!! Before and after pictures of my dress attached! read more

Of all the decisions that go into planning a wedding, Magic Alterations was easily one of the BEST choices I made! My wedding dress alterations were done very timely, at a fair price, and with extremely high quality and precision. I couldn't have felt more beautiful on my wedding day, wearing a dress that fit me perfectly, had the unique personal touches I asked for, and that was altered with immense care. By the time I wore it, it was a brand new, one-of-a-kind vintage dream dress. Dora did my alterations and did an INCREDIBLE job and was so personable. Words won't do it justice so I included before and after photos. My wedding was in December 2020, so it was planned on short notice due to COVID-19 and shifting plans. Magic Alterations worked with my needed timeline, and even made touch ups on-the-spot at my final fitting so that I could take my dress home that day. With the franticness of wedding planning, it was SUCH a gift to have peace knowing that my wedding dress was in great hands - Dora is so trustworthy! Details on the alterations: Dora said "You find a dress you like, and I'll make it perfect for you," and she absolutely blew me away! I got my dress at a second-hand boutique and had a vision for what I wanted it to be. The top was ivory alencone corded eyelash lace, and the bottom was silk chiffon, with a satin slip. Dora brought my vision to life and made it better than I imagined! Changes include: Changed the lace top from a high halter neckline to a deep V, and added lace to the edges so that it blended in seamlessly; re-did the cap sleeves to be more comfortable; added a lace trim to the waistline; made the A-line waist fit my figure perfectly; shortened it; added a clear strap across the back to make it feel more snug; added a zipper and redesigned the inner satin slip to match the outer layer's new shape; flared out the skirt to give more shape. I will be going back to them any chance I get, and HIGHLY recommend them for any alterations! I can't thank them enough! read more

Dora is a kind and hardworking woman. She altered my wedding dress for me and helped me feel absolutely beautiful on my wedding day. She added special buttons to make sure that my dress was easy to bustle. She is amazing and I'm so thankful I trusted her with my dress! read more

Dora is a magician! I brought her my wedding gown that I wanted remodeled, and she nailed it! It had a sheer panel between the bust that I wanted sewn shut, beaded off the shoulder straps that I wanted sewn to the top to create a strapless dress, a hem, and a bustle. In the process of converting the dress to strapless, we had an issue with support in the bust, so Dora hand beaded straps to match. You'd never know they didn't come with the dress! She also hemmed my rehearsal dress. I cannot say enough good things about Dora and would recommend her to anyone needing alterations, no matter how extensive or small they may be! read more

Came in to get a suit altered. Alterations were fine. My suit was not done till the very last minute, the day I needed to wear it. Showed up at the time I was told to pick it up and no one was there. The suit still needed to be steamed when I picked it up. It's unfortunate because it's a small local business that I'd like to support, but I won't be going bac. read more

A little pricier than the corner dry clean and alterations places, but absolutely the best work I've seen. I just brought a few shirts here to get tailored, expecting decent but not fantastic work and was pleasantly surprised when they turned out really fantastic. I normally spend more to go to higher end tailors for bigger jobs like suits, but I will definitely be bringing all of my tailoring jobs here from now on. Their work was timely, clean, and accurate. There were no loose threads or crooked stitches, and everything came out flawless. read more

I did not have the same experience as others. I was referred to Dora from a friend of mine. I brought her a bridesmaid dress and the bust area needed to be brought in a little and my criss cross straps that had hooks needed the hooks moved up/shortened. While I was there we decided if I wore 3 1/2 inch heels and the dress was altered in other ways we discussed the dress wouldn't have to be shortened. We added cups as well. I paid $90 for the dress and she told me the day I brought it that those alterations we discussed would be $50 ($25 for cups and $25 for alters)so I was happy with that and left my dress with her. I called two weeks before and was given a date she would text me for pickup and never heard. Called again and given another date and never heard from her. Called the week of the wedding and finally was given a date and time to pickup. When I got there the bust was not taken in and the straps were not only still too big but for some reason she sewed the straps in so I could barley get my head through to get the dress on. So I realize now it being days away from the wedding I'm not even going to mention the bust being too big still (seemed like it wasn't taken in at all) but I ask if she could adjust the straps but with the clips not sewed in because I wouldn't be able to get my head through plus we never discussed sewing them in. She asks me to come back in an hour. Mind you I have my daughter with me and I live 40 mins away so I'm like "okay I will sit in the car". She ends up doing it really fast and when she calls me to go back in the dress is bagged (so no trying it on again)...and she says "okay your total is $105"...I was confused and said "you told me $50." And she said "well I shortened it, and did the other adjustments we discussed and added the cups so it's $105 but if I told you $50 it's fine give me whatever I guess." We specifically spoke about me getting 3 1/2 inch heels so we didn't shorten it so that's what i went and got so I was confused. I ended up giving her $100 and walking out. I had other dresses for wedding I was standing up in this year and will NOT be brining them here. I think the "cherry on top" of it all was the day of the wedding when I put the dress on another bridesmaid was clipping my straps in and says "your straps are twisted because it looks like the hooks were put on backwards". read more

I chose this place because I saw all the great reviews and figured since the experience was as good as everyone said I should really give her the praise she deserves. I brought 2 suits 1 for myself and my 15 year old son. Mine were small tweaks but his suit needdd a little more work. Knowing that he is a growing teenager she hid the extra fabric from his pants in case he needs more length down the road and the work was incredible. Had a chance to chat with her and she mentioned that she was a JOS A. Bank seamstress for like 7 years. You can definitely tell. Great work! I'm glad I drove out all the way from the city. read more

Dora was very nice and very helpful. I had a bridesmaid dress that was too big in the top. She did all I asked and sewed in cups to help it fit better. She was quick and efficient. First pinned to make sure I liked how everything would fit, and then sewed. She Steamed my dress and since the wedding I was in was not for another month told me that I could go back and she could steam it for me again if I needed. Not sure what a good price is but it seemed reasonable to me. I will be going back next time I need something else altered! read more

I came to Dora with a bridesmaids dress skeptical that it could be altered to my liking since I didn't love the dress to begin with, thinking the parts of it I wanted fixing wouldn't be possible. I put it on and Dora just began pinning and tucking to adjust things I wouldn't have even thought about. It came out absolutely beautiful, the fit is so much more accommodating to my body and I'm thrilled with the result, Dora really turned my dress around and now I can't wait to wear it! Will definitely return! read more

I requested alterations (taking out the chest, removing pads and adding material to cover the low bust) less than 24 hours for a dress that I was wearing or a wedding.
