I see several low reviews recently, so I need to share my experience from this week. I'm a visitor to St Thomas every year, for the past 10 yrs. I've been to Mafolie restaurant several times. The view is always the best, and no can debate that. So let me review the food & service. Service, 5 stars. Our server was phenomenal, very attentive, helped answer all our questions, always kept our drinks full, and even helped us split multiple checks. The food was also amazing, even better than I remember from years ago. Yes the menu is small, but everything they have is fresh, and delicious. I ordered the chickpea pasta which was so unique and so good. It's like a creamy hummus pasta! My mom had fresh local Wahoo, just caught the same morning. Grilled perfectly cooked medium rare. Melts in your mouth. My aunt had scallop cakes, which was so delicious that my mom ordered another plate of them for herself. The only item that was just average was the red velvet cake. We were very impressed with the entire dining experience, and will definitely come back next year!
We've been regular visitors to St. Thomas over the last 17 years. Besides the beaches, we love the dining experiences the most. We try new ones each visit and have a list of old standbys. We are very tolerant of mistakes. Mafolie Restaurant was on the must-visit list each year, and we last visited two years ago. Never again. It was a disaster that merits one star only because of the fabulous view and the drinks. Here's how this year's visit went: My wife could not find an online menu, something that is a practice with her. We showed up and got a one-page menu. A handful of selections. "Where are your frozen drinks?" My wife asks. "We no longer offer them. New owner." "I don't see your Caribbean lobster." "No longer offered. New owner." "OK," she says. "How is the red snapper." (A menu item) "We don't have it tonight. We are substituting Wahoo." I ordered the lamb shank and she settled on the Cornish hen. A few minutes later the waiter returns: "The lamb shank is not done yet." So I chose the wahoo. How was it all? The wahoo arrived lukewarm and quickly was cold. The Cornish hen was warm but overdone. The breast meat was dry and stringy. A terrible disappointment. No "oops" but a real disaster. No longer one of our old standbys.
You CANT beat the view from this restaurant! Absolutely spectacular! When you approach the restaurant you will need to park on the narrow street.. a bit scary at first. The dining room waa all open and we were able to sit next to the rail for an amazing view. Come before dusk so that you can experience the view from the day time then after the sun sets. My husband had fish and I had steak. Both meals were amazing only one downfall with mine is that it tasted like the mashed potatoes were instant vs real potatoes. I could be wrong but that is what they tasted like.
Mafolie is one of the best restaurants on the island hands down. You need to make a reservation online or through Yelp. There is usually plenty of parking, which is free on both sides of the street. It is a bit steep but very doable in my hybrid. First off the view is breathtaking. I'd highly recommend going near sunset and you'll have a colorful sky and be able to watch some cruise ship leave the harbor. I got the chicken on top of a bed of mashed potatoes. The helping was generous and the gravy and potatoes where so yummy. My friend kept stealing forks full. He got the ribs. He also got a lot of food and the ribs fell off the bone. I let him eat my green beans and he said they where equally delicious. The service was excellent! From the hosts to waiters to the bar service. Everything is in prime view of the harbor and city below.
Chill atmosphere with food well done, and yes, an amazing view. The conch fritters and garlic bread delicious, the wings and charred shark bites a little disappointing. The beet and Caesar salads huge, tried the seafood kallaloo which was delicious. Mains were tuna and snapper, huge portions accompanied by lots of sides and well seasoned. A little pricey but excellent dining option.
First off, BEAUTIFUL VIEW. It's high up, so you get a wonderful view overlooking St. Thomas. Staff was nice and friendly. Appetizers were just okay. We got the garlic bread which was very dry, did not like. Conch fritters were okay, just a little too much breading for me. For entree, I got the Island Rum Lobster in the large size -- DELICIOUS. My friends got the Caribbean Lobster and the Mahi Mahi, also delicious. Everyone loved it. I would come back.
The view from this restaurant was exquisite and the food was so tasty! We ate the red snapper and the servers made certain the kitchen knew about my gluten-free needs. We tried four different starters and were so impressed with the Mahi bites and the beet/pistachio/goat cheese salad. Richard and Britney were our meal servers and ensured our meal wasn't rushed in any way. Both nights we continued to enjoy the evening breezes from the open bar area.
Reading these reviews it's sounds like it's all dependent on what time you go. I'm a first time visitor of the island and saw this place with great reviews. We had an amazing time, the ambience is quiet, clean, and very Caribbean. The view was incredible and food was delicious. I highly recommend the shrimp alfredo (very light and creamy not heavily fishy) and Cesar salad (the croutons are to die for). My husband got the chicken breast which was a bit dry. Rosie our server was extremely attentive and personable: granted there were only 3 other tables. Parking tip: there isn't a parking lot, so go earlier than you would and try to find a good spot on the side of the restaurant.
Beautiful view, good painkiller, good lobster (my dinner) with a rum Parmesan cream sauce, good coconut snapper, loved the spicy garlic bread as well. The service was very good and wine is reasonably priced. The food prices are upscale, but they should be. The breezes through the open area coupled with the view make for an excellent dining experience!
I don't often give five stars based on a single visit, and that's the basis for this review, but compared with several other dinner places on the island, Mafolie's restaurant deserves it. It won't be my last dinner, but it'll be hard to top. The view is excellent, the service is friendly and helpful and totally not rushed even though they're busy. On my first time in, by calling ahead they had a seat saved and I felt like an old regular, which was a great start to the meal. The French onion soup is pricy, but homemade and very hearty and cheesy; it got compliments for its smell from another diner nearby. They make their own fruit juices and ginger syrup, and can whip up drinks using them to good effect, on menu, off menu to order, and bartender's choice. One of their signature dishes is their mango avocado salad, and they can add a protein to it for a delicious, healthy, efficient meal. I addd some seared tuna and it worked very well. It's romaine, maybe half a mango, half an avocado, a filet of tuna, and a vinaigrette applied not too aggressively.

If you're looking for one of the best views on the island, this is it. The overlook is absolutely unreal especially around sunset. Shout out to the manager, Robin. She was incredibly kind and welcoming, and the service overall was exceptional. We started with the Virgin Islands crab cakes. Two flat crab cakes, packed with real lump crab meat. Moist, flavorful, and not stuffed with filler. They came with a sauce that had this cinnamon apple ketchup vibe to it which sounds odd but somehow worked. I was skeptical at first, but I ended up loving it. For the main course, we had the Filet Mignon ($68). The menu mentioned that it was served with honey spiced asparagus but instead came with carrots. It also came with mashed potatoes and a coconut green peppercorn sauce. I asked for the steak to be cooked medium rare and they delivered on that. We also tried the Whole Snapper for $55. It was deep fried and served with peas and rice and carrots. Packed with flavor and very crispy. For drinks, I got the Golden Hour Martini $16. Slightly sweet, citrusy, and refreshing. Easy to sip while watching the sun set over the island. Mafolie is on the pricier side and I do recommend making a reservation prior. But between the view, the quality of the food, and the service, you are paying for the full experience. If you're in St. Thomas and want a memorable dinner with a view that actually lives up to the hype, Mafolie delivers. read more
Best view on the entire island! I stayed at the hotel so I ate at the restaurant many times. They include a free breakfast for hotel guests and it was awesome! My friends and I also loved grabbing drinks with a view, and a nice dinner at Mafolie. They have some great appetizers, we tried a ton of them. The ceviche was my favorite. We of course tried all the desserts and the key lime pie was the winner! The staff was super friendly and remembered us every day. Overall a great spot on st Thomas with views for days, delicious food, and friendly people. read more

As everyone else comments, the view is absolutely stunning. And from there it just gets better. Our means (Cajun salmon and grilled mahi-mahi) were delicious. Pre-dinner cocktails were excellent - ended with bread pudding (outstanding). Our service was top notch. read more

We wanted to get this restaurant a 3.5 but that was not an option so we were generous and gave it a 4 because of THE VIEW. The food was just OK and the service was just OK. The view was amazing!!! The bottle of wine we ordered was excellent and I felt was reasonably priced (compared to the Ritz where we were staying!) But we are really disappointed in the lack of conch in the conch fritters and the fact that I only got half a Lobster when I thought I ordered a whole one. It does seem to be the traditional way of serving lobster here, but I think you should get a whole lobster if you spend $70. My husband had the Creole Snapper and thought it was OK. Under seasoned but cooked nice. Make a reservation and get here early. The longer the night went on, the longer it took us to get simple things like salt and pepper and the check. Also, parking early (6 PM) was pretty easy but looked like it was a lot more difficult when we were leaving around 8. read more
We had a big party and they accommodated us at the last minute. The view is great and the food was outstanding. The wine though was over priced 2buck chuck :) The had bottles of Cooks priced like bottles of Dom. The good food made up for it though. read more

Wow! Food, service and ambiance! Just wow. The view is the best. Dusk to sunset can't be beat. Just beautiful. The avocado, mango salad with star fruit dressing was delicious. Lamb chops prepared perfectly and the pasta, lobster, shrimp dish was yummy. Our server, Toovin, was very attentive. Thank you for a wonderful evening. read more

What a view! This is worth a visit just for the ambience but I do not recommend driving your rental car. Take a taxi. Outdoor with a tremendous elevated view of the harbor. The food was good as were our drinks but the whole dining experience was outstanding mainly due to the setting. read more

Go there, eat and have a beautiful view, while you dine. Wife and I had Surf & Turf. Filete with a lobster, bit pricey $80 ea, but if you are on vacation, you will enjoy. St Thomas. read more

It's rare that you can anywhere in the world enjoy a view as beautiful as the view from this restaurant. It's spectacular especially at nighttime although the brunch ambiance might be rather special as well. The staff is friendly and patient and they all seem to have lovely smiles. Did I mention the food? Naw; I didn't and I won't. The vibe and the view make it a requirement in any restaurant crawl on the island but nothing I ate was worth more than a bite and I left hungry and considerably lighter in the pocket. read more

We ate here on our last night in St. Thomas. We didn't know where to eat and our hotel's concierge recommended this place when we checked in. I was lucky to be able to score a last minute reservation for 7:45pm. I wish I made it a little earlier because the views are amazing here. It's a little tough to find parking, if you rented a car, but we were able to find a spot. The restaurant is located at the Mafolie hotel. It's a small boutique hotel situated on one of the steeper hills in St. Thomas. We were warmly greeted when we checked in and showed to a window side table. It was absolutely breathtaking. Liz, our server, was awesome. She made sure we were happy the entire night. She doted on our kids and helped us pick out what to eat. We ended up ordering entrees because the portions were pretty big. I got the coconut crusted snapper, my husband got the potfish, my older son got the island lobster and my younger son a pasta from the kid's menu. Everything was outstanding! My coconut snapper was perfectly fried, but not oily. You can really taste how fresh the fish was and the coconut crust added so much flavor. My husband loved the potfish. It was a whole fish fried with special seasoning. The island lobster was delicious as well, but not for me. I like lobster steamed with a little butter. This was in a creamy rum sauce. My son, however, loved it and I barely got to taste it. We also decided we had room for dessert. We picked the pineapple upside down cake and their rum crème brulee. Both were yummy, but I really enjoyed the crème brulee. It came out flaming and turned out perfectly torched. It was a shame that we discovered this place on our last night, but will definitely make sure to come back when we're in town. read more

Chef Emmanuel has kicked this restaurant up to 5 star quality! Since we were staying at the adjoining hotel for a few days last week, it was a no-brainer to try out the attached restaurant. (We have eaten at this restaurant many times in the past 17 years, but honestly it always seemed to be "hit or miss.") Not so this year. I ordered the rum buttered Caribbean lobster with Spanish rice, carrot and carmelized purple cabbage. Absolutely outstanding! In fact it was so outstanding that we ate 3 nights in a row at this restaurant. Bartender Jess was awesome...and of course, the view of the harbor is world famous. read more

We had an absolutely fantastic dinner watching a beautiful sunset from this restaurant. The service was fantastic. We had a group of four at our table. Everything we ordered was superb. I should've taken more pictures of the food. In fact, I don't think I took any pictures of the food. We had appetizers. I ordered the large lobster tail that was also stuffed with crab meat at one end. It was amazing. One of our other guests ordered the crusted yellow tail. It was also fantastic. We ordered the chocolate cake and the coconut cake for dessert. Both with her amazing. The views from this restaurant are stunning. All tables have a beautiful view of the entire bay and city. I would definitely put this on the list. They also had live music with a man playing a jazz guitar. The ambience was fantastic. read more

Absolutely amazing experience. You must try the kallaloo along with the mahi, the beet salad was refreshingly light. It was evident that everything is done with care. The painkillers were also delicious. We had Kay as a server. She was attentive to our needs, and even talked to us about local spots to go and explore. The view from the restaurant provides a gorgeous panoramic view of the island of St. Thomas overlooking Charlotte Amalie. read more
