Miss Lucy's shows up on many people's "must see" lists for St. John. We went on Thursday night, which is "Open Mic Night," and I got to play keyboard with the excellent house band! A great evening. We spent the late morning and afternoon at Saltpond/Ram Head, which meant we were already on the Coral Bay side of the island, where Miss Lucy's is. The VITRAN bus picked us up at Saltpond, and kindly dropped us off at Miss Lucy's a bit before dinnertime. The VITRAN bus is a great option, if you can make it work in your schedule, but be sure to check when they're coming. (The website schedule has almost nothing to do with the actual schedule!) We were glad we had some OFF insect repellant lotion, as were a few other people who asked to use some of ours! The band was setting up, and new members kept coming, even after the evening started. Apparently, the chef hadn't shown up yet, but they took food orders, served drinks, and the music got going pretty close to on schedule, 5:30 pm. It was a great evening! Lots of folks--singles, couples, families--and everyone was into the music. Lauren and Bo Magnie (and their wonderful kids) really make it happen, along with a large cast of friends. The music ranged from reggae to folk to jazz to rockabilly, with lots of folks stepping in for a few numbers. Someone was making balloon animals, someone else was blowing bubbles. There was lots of dancing, and people jumping in with the band. There was even a guy playing spoons. The food came out incredibly LATE, like over an hour after we ordered it. But to be honest, no one cared very much. Everyone was having a blast, dancing, singing, and playing under the colored lights on a beautiful St. John evening. The place was packed. Oh, back to the food! We had fried plantains, and kallaloo and crab soup. Presentation was super informal, but the flavor was off the charts "top shelf!" It could've been something we got at a fancy place. So good. One thing: if you're relying on taxis, make arrangements beforehand. We got stranded, there was no cell service, and the restaurant wifi was down. So we bummed a ride (thank you, new friend!) until we got into cell range, then called our favorite taxi driver for the ride home. But this just added to the wonderful adventure of Open Mic Night at Miss Lucy's. Don't miss it!

Dear Baby Jesus, thank you for blessing us with Miss Lucy's! It took almost our whole stay to get there. If we had made it on Day Two, we would have eaten there daily. We finally got our fritters. Duh-lish-us. Best view ever watching birds dive in the water for fish. We each ordered fish dishes with rice and peas...I honestly could eat there every day. Next time, we plan to do just that! Amen

C Closed today but delish when open! they have the best Keylime coladas, as well as painkillers, and every kind of frozen mixed drink you can think of the fish sandwich is my favorite on the whole island. Problem is you never know if they're going to be open or not. But if you happen to be passing by, you should definitely stop in for a bite or a cocktail or both!

Superb lunch along with great views. Loved the grouper Reuben...might be my favorite thing on the island. My husband loved the Johnny cakes as well. Great cocktails or as they call it fu-fu drinks. Servers here are so nice and friendly DMG as well.

Husband and I decided to make the trek out to Miss. Lucy's since I was looking for the best conch fritters on the island. I have a fond memory of tasting conche fritters for the first time, on St. John and although I anticipated that the location I first had them is long gone (30 years ago), I still was determined to relive the experience and the ones here are delicious. Light batter and tasty dipping sauce. Husband har the crunchy fried fish and was equally happy with his selection.

Best food in St. John. My Grouper Reuben was to die for with a perfect crunch, yummy slaw. Got the plantains to start, also great. Any blended drink is a good choice--honeydew colada, lime n da coconut, and bushwhacker are all amazing. Service can be slow but don't be grumpy about it, food and view are worth it! You're probably on vacation if you're reading this and should have nothing better to do, so chill out!

BE READY TO WAIT FOR YOUR FOOD. (1-1.5 hrs) we waited over an hour for our food and they were not even full. I'm sure lack of staffing and the nature of their food makes it take a while. If you have patience and would like a good meal, then this is the place for you! Enjoyed the Reuben fish sandwich and plantains. Unfortunately they were out of theJohnny cakes. Of note their mixed drinks are amazing. Best colada I had during my entire trip! Got the melon dew colada and was very tasty

Chicken roti with fries, fried plantain and Kallaloo & crab soup

We got dinner here one evening and it was delicious. They had a limited menu that evening so we ordered the Chicken roti with fries, fried plantain and Kallaloo & crab soup, they were all good. It was open mic that evening and the atmosphere there was lovely with great music and great views.

We had a wonderful lunch at Miss Lucy's yesterday with an amazing Oceanside view and a visit from St. John's wild donkeys. The conch fritters appetizer was delightful. The ox tail and fried plantain special was tasty. I think they were low on staff which made for a slow truly relaxing Island dining experience. I would not go here if you are looking for a quick lunch but overall our dining experience was tasty and memorable. With appetizers, frozen drinks, and tip our lunch for 2 was $100.

Great drinks and great food if you're on the East side of the island. The fried grouper sandwich or the grouper Reuben are the way to go. Waterfront view too.

Finally made it Miss Lucy's. Now open for lunch. What a view. Great service. Limited menu but well prepared food. I had a grouper sandwich. It was delicious. We hit Miss Lucy's after hike to Rams head. Followed by a stop at Skinny Legs. Great day on the East End.

We have been to Miss Lucy's many times. Quick summary: Excellent food, drinks, and a beautiful view. Miss Lucy's is a casual restaurant and bar on the east end of St. John. The view of Coral Bay from the restaurant provides a stunning backdrop for lunch. Fir my cocktail, I tried the Lime in Da Cocunut for the first time here. Really refreshing and delicious beverage. For lunch I had the West Indies Fish Fry (local grouper) with remoulad. Simply and perfectly prepared fish dish! We also had had the Johnny Cakes (order of 3) which is served with butter and honey. Local style biscuits that are prepared fresh. Get an order when you visit! If you rent a car while on St. John's seek this place out!

The atmosphere and view was great. Food was great. Drinks were cold. Friendly staff. I would definitely check this place out if you are in the area of Coral Bay.

The menu is big. It's local. They sell out as the night goes on. All of the servers do not speak English really well. But, honestly, if you have a question that can't be answered, there's someone around you can talk to. We ordered sautéed fish and the stewed chicken. Each entree comes with three sides - my favorites were the plantains, red beans, and Cole slaw. Rice was also good. The cook was also grilling pork that smelled AMAZING and when I asked my server if I could have whatever he was making, she literally snuck me over a side plate of smoked and grilled pork. So freaking good. This is not your typical Cruz bay restaurant. This is local. It's delicious. There is live music. Appreciate what you are getting. If you want cute fish tacos, this place isn't for you. We had a cocktail at the Windmill Bar during sunset and then popped over here (practically next door), to order some food. Our original pick was closed for the month of May and by happenstance the owner recommended Sylvia's. We walked in and the place has just the essentials. There's a bar on the right and then the kitchen, tables on the left, and bathrooms in the back. The menu is on a white board with a cash only sign right below. There were about 6 mains and each came with two sides (4 options, the 5th sold out). Sylvia took our order and between the 4 of us we tried 3 of the mains and all of the sides. I had the fresh fish of the day, grilled in butter sauce. It came out head, tail, scales and all. Sylvia explained this as I ordered and let me know it was to keep all of the flavor. She also showed me how to slice it to avoid the bones and it was flat out delicious. We shared the sides among us, my favorites being the mash and spinach; though all were good. My boyfriend ordered the jerk chicken and it had some serious heat. He asked about the recipe and Sylvia mentioned that everyone on the island had the same request but no one ever got it. My friend ordered the homemade key lime pie; best she ever tasted. Some quirks: There's a bar and the restaurant that operate as two different businesses, so you'll get your drinks on one bill and the food on a second. Also, they are CASH ONLY; It cost us about $150 to get out the door for dinner for 4, drinks, and a generous tip. Sylvia serves her food in Sputnik Bar. If you're approaching from the northwest on Rte 10, keep straight instead of turning into Coral Bay (at the 107 split). It'll be about 1/2 mile down the road on the left.
