We dropped in at lunchtime on a summer Wednesday having never eaten at Mae's before. It took a minute or two before someone was free to seat us-- outside under the amazing old maple. It was clear that our server was stretched to cover the tables, but that was okay, except for the temptation provided by the glass cases of baked goods. We ordered (eggs benedict and lamb sausage benedict) and our food was on the table and we'd eaten within 45 minutes-- perfect for a work day lunch. The lamb sausage is hearty-- would have been a meal in itself, but as part of the benedict it was yummy sin city. The iced coffee tasted great black and our server was gracious and competent. Folks at another table asked her about going to Bar Harbor and she offered good advice to them. All in all, we'll be back. read more

Mae's has been a great breakfast/lunch spot for many years now, food, service, and atmosphere have been super. On our last visit in late August or early September 2023, they had just changed the menu, which was down sized by about 50 percent. EVERYTHING on the menu is made with love, and you can taste it. My go-to for a really nice breakfast or lunch, they make fantastic eggs benedict, french toast, sandwiches, and salads! Personal favorite is Gavin's Eggs Benedict- the lamb sausage is delicious. read more

Really great food but the service is sub par. The two times we went here the wait to be seated was at least ten minutes longer than the 20-25 minute time we were told. The wait to see our server after that was another 10 minutes. Refills were sparse and our toast didn't come until we were over half way done eating. Once we were finished there was another significant wait to pay. Food was great and everyone was very nice but our "quick" breakfast turned into an hour and a half ordeal. read more

I grew up going to Mae's and the former Kristina's, and have always had a wonderful experience. I cannot relate to the bad reviews below. 9:30am on a Sunday it was busy, but we were seated right away, our waitress was kind and attentive, and I swear our food came out within 10 minutes. This is the Mae's I know and love. The menu did downsize quite a bit, but it still had my favorites, so no complaints here! read more

We stop in here for breakfast every year on our way back home after a week at the beach. We've always sat outside on the porch. I wouldn't recommend it on a hot day as the sun was unbearable! Maybe some shades could help with that. The service is always friendly and the food? It's delicious. I haven't had a bad meal here. The oversized cinnamon bun always come home with us. This year my daughter had the avocado toast with scrambled eggs and parfait (so much food!) son had the pastrami benedict skillet (I stole many bites) and I had the stuffed blueberry french toast. It was like an hour long wait for the food. I ask for a root beer and she brought a cup full of ice and a root beer and she didn't refill my water. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich and my brother got a grilled chicken sandwich and he asked for avocados on the side and they put it on. The sandwich and the chicken was burnt. It's just breakfast and sandwich's and they don't have honey mustard. read more

Best French toast ever! They use a cinnamon swirl bread (almost a cinnamon roll without the icing) but then they keep it simple - so you get this nice unique taste without going to the "too much" point. Good service and espresso also! read more

How could a restaurant go downward within a week? Training new staff and cook during the weekend. I'm so sorry to leave this kind of review but the owners need to be aware of how the customer feels after spending money and it was expensive plus tip! Our server was very polite, however the food was terrible and the coffee was awful. Please make a change as there are few eateries worth visiting. read more

Breakfast anyone? This place is a must for that. I popped in there this morning to get a quick bite as I was craving some pancakes. I ordered the Morse's Mountain which had a few slices of bacon, in-house made sausage, two eggs, a mound of hash browns, and two small pancakes. None if it disappointed at all! The ones that really stuck out was the sausage and the pancakes. The blueberry option had a hint of cinnamon which tasted amazing with the real maple syrup (and don't forget that real maple.. leave that fake flavored corn syrup out of the equation). Being completely happy, I had to get a cinnamon roll to go. This was also a surprise as the icing had a twang to it - like a sour raisiny sweet icing - and it was delish. If in town, i'd recommend checking them out! No regrets will be had. :-) read more

Woke up and did a search for breakfast as the brown bag breakfast at the Hampton Inn leaves a lot to be desired. Came across Mae's and I'm glad we did. Huge and diverse breakfast menu! The cinnamon buns/pecan rolls are definitely a must for your warm up to breakfast but be prepared to share... they are big. We will be back! Thank you again! read more

Whether your local or rolling through as a tourist to your destination, make it a point to stop here. You will not be disappointed. However, I would make note that most of their baked goods like they're famous cinnamon rolls sell out rather early in the morning. Everything we had was excellent. Ample portions, very seasoned & tasty, Real maple syrup, excellent bread choices, gluten-free options too. Beautiful homemade desserts and baked goods are definitely a highlight. Their corn beef hash was full of corn beef so if you're a fan of that you'll love their take on it. The menu offers many breakfast and lunch choices as well as specials but the eggs Benedict options really shine. I loved the Mexican w avocado. Outdoor seating on the porch. Local artists paintings adorn the interior walls. Good acoustics allowing for conversation. Service is friendly & accommodating but defiantly a hurried style. read more

We come here all the time. I think I have tried almost everything on the brunch menu and have yet to find anything I dislike. There is a good range of options and both inventive and traditional menu items. The pancakes barely need syrup, the Benedict's always come out hot and well prepared. My favorite item they serve is their house made lamb sausage. We have ordered morning cocktails, and were happy with both the mimosa and the Bloody Mary- both were well balanced. We have tried some baked goods-- I adore the carrot cake, and my husband was very happy with their chocolate cake. Additionally, I recently attended a dinner catered by Mae's. The food was well prepared, flavorful and widely appealing. Love this place- highly recommend. read more

One of the best Eggs Benny dishes I have ever had. They have so many choices I almost couldn't decide. I got the Benedict on gluten free toast with homemade lamb sausage, spinach, and feta. It was so delicious I am going to be dreaming about it for years to come. The only inconvenience was around getting seated/paying our bill. You do both of these things in the same spot inside and things get a little congested and confusing. When I went up to pay the tab, I was in line behind a woman buying baked goods from the case and behind me was a couple looking to be seated. It was a little weird. I would recommend getting up to pay the check as soon as you get it, so you are not rushed or inconvenienced by a potentially long line. read more

I went here for a late breakfast with some friends. The food was good and the service and ambience was open and friendly. I loved how much light there was in the dining room. This is a great place for a casual breakfast or light lunch out. It's not fancy, but the dining room has wonderful artwork and an artsy vibe. Three of us got the "Morse Mountain," (eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon) while one got stuffed French toast. The pancakes were light and fluffy, and the eggs were good. The French toast was good, although a little on the sweet side. All in all, definitely going back! UPDATE I ordered the wrong stuff the first time. What a great breakfast spot! My husband and I came here two days in a row for breakfast and left so satisfied both days. I'm a vegetarian while he is not and we both had SO many options. Such a treat! We are both in the service industry and have worked at many restaurants so when we get great service and great food, we stay loyal to a spot. Wish we remembered the name of our waitress yesterday but today we had Liz. Both were friendly, efficient, and made us feel at ease so we could enjoy breakfast to the fullest. The host, probably the manager or owner, was super welcoming and made sure to say a nice goodbye as we left the building. Thanks for being such a great place!! read more

Mae's is under new ownership and the staff are more organized and service-oriented than they were with prior ownership. The staff no longer ignore potential customers waiting to be seated or informed of wait times and how to put one's name on a list for a table. We look forward to returning now that the staff understand that seating hungry potential customers and not ignoring them benefits both the customers and the bottom line of the establishment. read more

When another customer raised concerns with server, the server went rogue, shouted at the customer while calling the older man "Honey" and "Dear" and ultimately asked him to leave. Have always loved eating at Mae's but this Covid19 2020 summer we ate here only once. Really felt safer on the deck but was told no on this day. So we were seated inside. Surprised that another party was then seated back to back from our booth. Third issue was my husband's breakfast choice had crabmea, sadly from a can. Been here twice. Once was with a group function where we rented out the upper level private dining area. It was a nice set up, especially for the limited dining establishments in Bath, and it worked. Also ate here for a late breakfast/early lunch, so basically a brunch, and it was great. The atmosphere was cozy and bright; the menu items all sounded quite appetizing; the food was excellent; and of course, my company was amazing... but I digress. Went for breakfast and had the blueberry pancakes. They were delicious but unfortunately still runny in the middle. The waitress was kind enough to take a little off the cost and offered to make another. I declined on having another made but appreciated them taking some money off the total. The bacon was very good and cooked perfectly. It had a very nice maple flavor with just the right amount of smokiness. The restaurant itself has a very nice atmosphere and the baked goods looked very yummy. I felt the prices were a bit high. It was $2.50 for coffee. However the portions were a good size. It was fairly quiet when I went but I noticed a book shelf with books for both children and adults. Their was also many very nice framed pictures on the walls. Really sweet people work here. Every time I come to dine, they've got good chill tunes and a dining room filled with other people's grandparents. It's a place loved by locals AND very few of the items are fried - both high on my list. The menu features daily specials, local bread and lots of warmth.
