Being a creature of habit I have always avoided that area of town for some reason I decided to go yesterday to Mae's Thai Kitchen and was not disappointed. Not sure exactly how long they have been at this location but I seem to remember a not as appealing restaurant being there before. You walk in and there is enough room for about twenty or so people to dine inside. Always a plus. Staff was super friendly. I'm used to having to pay before served, as that seems to be the norm these days in many placed, not Mae's I was told pay when I leave. That helps to cement in the true restaurant feel. Generous portions and you get a glass of water without even being asked. I did ask and was provided with nice bamboo disposable chop sticks to eat with. I had the Drunken Noodles with Pork. Hot scale 5, and yes it did bring a tear to my eye. Other restaurants can not bring on the heat and flavor. Mae's Thai Kitchen brought on the heat and flavor. I was a bit surprised that there was no hot sauce or soy at the table. Did not ask for any sauce either as was not needed. The noodles and pork were done to perfection. The mark of a good chef is no sauce extra or flavor needed. What came to my table was Perfect. Reasonably priced and could actually feed two people if you wanted. Look at my plate there was a generous supply of pork provided. Yes I'd recommend to friends and family. Hot scale runs from 1 to 5 (I said 100) Food was great!!! read more

Some of the best Thai food we've had in a long while. The super basic decor is irrelevant because the food is awesome! The Tom Kah soup was perfectly sweet/sour - one of the best Tom soups I've ever had! The Cashew Nut tofu was savory and delicious. The veggies were cooked beautifully (not overdone) and the tofu was crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. Add water chestnuts and it would be perfect. Sabrosito! My husband had the Fried Chicken Wings. They looked like Grandma's fried chicken (no one did fried chicken better) and remained crispy and juicy throughout the whole meal. Sauce was served on the side, which helped with the crispness factor. He was very happy with his meal. The hostess/server/cook (she does it all!) was attentive and helpful. And boy, can she cook! I got the green curry, and it was quite good. The umami was soothing and deep. The tofu spring rolls were also good. But, if someone asked me to nitpick, I can do that easily of course. I asked if medium spicy was "Thai" medium spicy or "American" medium spicy. She said she thought it was Thai medium spicy. After tasting it, I definitely thought it was closer to American medium. But it's not a big deal; after I let her know, she gave me a little cup of some chili flakes and seeds. After I put those in, they were closer to what I would consider Thai medium. Although, I would've preferred for the curry itself to be more spicy from green chilies. I believe the color is a shade more yellow than I'd like because there isn't a lot of green chili in it to begin with. The ratio of curry to rice is very American. I immediately ordered a second bowl of rice. I have come back and try more things. read more

My wife had driven by Mai's Thai Kitchen earlier in the day and said it smelled wonderful. She asked me if we should eat take out from there for lunch today. She picked up the food on her way home. I ordered the Drunken Noodles with shrimp at number 3, for spiciness. When I uncovered my food it was hot and smelled well-seasoned. In fact, it looked very inviting. I forked through a bit of the top layer and saw that it had more than a bit of onion, which wasn't much of a surprise to me. Everything in the plate was well cooked but for me I'm sad to say that the overwhelming flavor of onion and I guess basil or something in there, were a lot more than I was looking for. I took a picture here approximately 1/3 of the amount of onion that came in the Drunken Noodle dish. Total it was like 3.0+ tablespoons of large, onion pieces. For my mouth, it seemed over the top with onion flavor. One other minor concern I had was that though we had ordered the noodles with shrimp, I found about 3.5 bites of chicken at the bottom of my plate. Had I been a vegetarian who ate some seafood or a pescatarian, I would have been very upset! Next I tried a fresh shrimp wrap. In the middle of the lettuce there was another strong flavor-- not sure what it was, but it made me so overwhelmed the lettuce and shrimp taste, I couldn't finish it. This was an unexpected find. We read the reviews and thought we'd try it out. We were very pleased with the Resturant. The service was great. It was a very casual atmosphere and would be perfect for a quick meal or a takeout. Very friendly. Excellent food. We had the Tom Yum soup with chicken, medium spicy cream, the Green curry with eggplant medium spice and the Yum Woonsen salad with Glass noodles, shrimp, and pork with a spicy lime dressing with peanuts. We visited the San Ysdro outlet and right after,  my wife got a craving for Thai food . We tried this small Thai restaurant called MAE'S THAI . We couldn't find any review about it but still we went to try it . As soon as we got there, the place is small with 5 tables only but very clean and welcoming look . We were approached by a Nice lady in the counter , gave us menu and we are so Familiar with Thai food so we ordered our food  fast . We Had Pad Woonsen with Pork  , Red Curry w/ chicken , and Tom Yum w/ Chicken . The food came all in to go containers but still we are able to Dine in because  they will give you plates and utensils .  Sunny the cashier and server at the same time was very nice and very friendly . My Wife made the first impression of the food and she said she Loves the food here . And I agree as well that the food here tasted  good  . Plenty of Parking around . We finally got to try Mae's Thai Kitchen on Coronado Street in San Diego, and we're so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, the place had a warm, welcoming vibe, and the staff was super friendly and attentive. We ordered the chicken black pepper with broccoli, crispy spring rolls, red chicken curry, mango sticky rice, and Thai iced tea--and honestly, every single dish hit the spot. The chicken black pepper was flavorful and had the perfect kick of spice, and the broccoli was cooked just right--not too soft, not too crunchy. The crispy spring rolls were light, fresh, and not greasy at all, which I really appreciated. One of our favorites was definitely the red curry--it had such a rich, creamy coconut flavor with the perfect level of spice. We were dipping everything in that curry sauce! For dessert, we shared the mango sticky rice, and it was the perfect ending to the meal. The mango was sweet and ripe, and the sticky rice was soft and warm--just how it should be. And I can't forget the Thai iced. Portions were generous, and for the price, we felt like we got a really good deal. You can tell the food is made with love. We left full and happy. My go-to Thai food spot! I religiously order the Pad Thai with fried tofu, medium spicy. I highly recommend this restaurant. The uncle at the front always greets me with a smile and he's always so happy and cheerful. He always provides excellent customer service and makes sure my to-go order has everything (cutlery/napkin). He'll even walk it out to me when I'm sitting in my car. He's amazing! Thank you, uncle! And my favorite is, the portion of the food. I eat half for my lunch and save the other half for dinner. The restaurant is always clean, spotless and chill. This spot is a must visit! The food here is absolutely delicious! The Isaan-style som tam (papaya salad) is bursting with authentic Thai flavors, and the crispy chicken wings are perfectly seasoned and so satisfying. Pretty tasty. I just ate a tofu curry plate that I picked up there. It was sooo good. My stomach made me write this review. It said "Dude, you need to write a real good review for this place because that stuff was bomb! More importantly, you need to get back there real soon and try more items on their menu!" I like my stomach to be happy. I generally listen to what my stomach says. So ya... this place was real good and I would emphasize the word "Fresh". They made that stuff fresh. Food was pretty good. I loved the curry and fried tofu i ordered on the side. I had passed this place about 3-4 times because I live 1 block away and today i decided to give it a shot. O.M.G! We just moved to the area and I'm so glad i tried Mae's!!! Yall my mouth is watering just talking about the food! The curry, i usually order Panang curry but read that red is closest to it without the nutty flavor! The curry is amazing and so sad I've never tried red curry before this! The spice is perfect, didn't need to add chili to it. The soup...the lemongrass aroma is amazing and all the flavors!!! I love the variety of the vegetables as well! The fried rice is not just a basic fried rice, the flavor is delish and i stole some from my kids haha! I've also never had sweet sticky mango rice before...and it's now a new favorite dessert!!! Well ... the gentleman who took my order was very very nice. Although I was eating in, I placed my order at the counter and paid with 18% tip, prior to food. Sat down at nice clean table, to my dismay the windows were blocked blocked by Very Bad menu item pictures. Please remove immediately. They detract from your business. The food was mediocre. Because we get take out from Mae's, I cannot comment on the service and the ambiance of the restaurant. We have ordered take out several times and each time we are wowed by the delicious food. My favorite is the yellow curry with vegetables. The curry is warm with lots of flavor and the veggies are plentiful and cooked to perfection. My daughter orders noodles with shrimp or a shrimp and fried rice dish which she loves. We always have enough food leftover another meal. I highly recommend Mae's Thai Kitchen! read more
