So all the sub-par reviews are right on target. First, it appears that the townie bar patrons from olden days at the Deer Park have migrated over to this place. Outside having a smoke on our way in were a couple of groups of guys so drunk they were having to hold each other up and dropping F-bombs right and left. Second, I asked the waitress, it took her 10 minutes to find our table before we got a drink, to tell us what the on tap list was since there wasn't one on the table. She proceeded to list off the usual Miller & Bud light and then told me that the only "craft" beer they had on tap was Yuengling. I would describe Yuengling as the beer of my misguided youth but I and most others would never describe it as "craft". So I proceeded to order a Marguerita which was a Happy Hour special and a decently made drink although it was surely a pre-made mix. Some friends then joined us from the bar and walked in with a couple of pints of truly craft beers. When the waitress returned I asked her what the deal was and she told me that she had given me the beer list of what was on special for Happy Hour. That's not what I asked you sweetheart. Third, my friends asked her for the size of the mac and cheese portions, small versus large and instead of bringing out the dish they are served in she made the exact same size gesture with her hands to describe each of them. As it was, neither of my grown men big eater buddies could come close to finish the large portions of the dish. I tasted it and the mac and cheese was nothing to write home about, kraft is a close enough second place. It was way too salty. I ordered app's for the table: Walk about chicken rolls (meh), cheesesteak rolls (decent but not as good as Iron Hill's) loaded potato balls (AWESOME), old bay fries (way over salted). It wasn't terribly expensive because it was Happy Hour prices which is the only redeeming quality of the meal other than the potato balls and the Marguerita. TGIF's would have had a better quality food and a much classier clientele and service. read more

Tuesday was my first visit. I had $2 Tacos and they were delicious. I wanted to try something different so I ordered the WalkaBout Chicken Rolls...OMG! They are amazing! A little bit of kick, drizzled with a sweet "secret sauce" is the perfect combination. My friend and I shared fries that came with their Cowboy Ranch dip and it was so good I was dipping everything in it. We had INCREDIBLE, friendly, quick service from Ashley. She was busy with lots of tables, but still took the time to chat with us and answer all of our questions about the food and drinks. We will definitely be back sooner than later!! In Newark, Delaware there are no shortage of eating spots as one might suppose with a large university in the center of town. But for a little Australian twist on the usual pub fare, Mad Macs on South College Avenue is a good bet. On a recent dinner here, I ordered their famous Kangaroo burger. This was a very tasty burger - a bit different from a beef burger as it is juicier with lots of flavor. Toppings are included as are french fries. Aussie roo burgers aren't going to replace standard hamburgers any time soon, but you might at least want to try one at Mad Macs to find out what you think of them. The worst customer service experience ever. Mac was pretty terrible, and i know good mac. It was 95% cheese 5% mac. Pretty bad presentation as well. I told my waitress we didnt like our entrees and she brought us the bill with 10% off. We literally had 3 bites each. Was stuck between two and three stars, but I will go with two because, despite the quite good namesake mac n cheese, everything else was sub par. Mad-Macs is a great example of all the things that can go wrong with a restaurant other than food. Dining with my wife and her brother, she said, upon being seated, that this place "could be on Restaurant: Impossible." Couldnt agree more! It's dark, its attached to a crappy bar, there are stupid signs on the wall in the waiting area (ala Applebee's) and the entire dining room just is awful. A good rule of thumb- carpet in restuarants SUCK. Also, there was a fruit fly problem. Ewww. All this criticism being said, the food was good. Great? No, but good. We started out with apps. The Chesapeake Philadelphia Crab Pretzel and their version of mozzarella sticks. Well- thats what we ordered, but out came our fries first (which we ordered with our meal of mac n cheese...) The Chesapeake Philly Crab thing was ok. It was a legit Philly pretzel, baked with crab, cheddar and old bay. I must admit, though I love Philly pretzels as much as any red-blooded South Philly boy, cooking with them usually ends in disaster. This doesnt quite fall into disastrous territory, but it was a failed experiment. Had a similar dish at the Pop Shop in South Jerz, with similar results. The mac n cheese was good! I had a featured flavor- "The Fiesta." It was filled with pork and salsa and cheese. Very Americanized- and I mean that as a compliment. Loved it. The baked on top cheese was awesome. Huge portions! My wife and brother in law got a classic and a pizza mac n cheese, respectively. I have bites of both, and they were both tasty. Very good beer selection. Maybe catering a bit to the big companies, but made an effort to get some micros on tap. Very tasty, especially for a place so far from anyone with good beer taste (no offense, Delawarians...) The desserts were... crappy. I dont feel like talking about them, honestly. Sorry. Overall, I really dont know what to say. I wish as much effort was put into the seating, cleanliness and overall presentation as is the delicious mac n cheese. Someone obviously has a passion for baked pasta and cheese here, and it shows. I have to say I was pretty excited about coming here- Although experience proved otherwise. Anything with Mac and Cheese was very good. Imaginative, rich, And cheesy- you can taste the sharpness of the cheese. We had the Mac and cheese with brats, and the chili Mac. We also had the Mac and cheese bites. Sandwiches are another story. The burger and sandwich list are extensive . I had the gaucho burger, asked for it medium. The burger came out well , and was uninspired. For a place that has several gourmet burgers on its menu, I expect better . Fries were good and crunchy. My mojito was just sweet and fizzy- no lime or muddled mint. It looked like someone just got some Sprite and threw a couple of mint leaves in there for decoration. Overall , an okay experience and will return to give them a second chance, but I'm certain I will not have cocktails or sandwiches here again. read more

If you are in Newark, Delaware and you like macaroni and cheese, this is a place to try. It's a bar so expect a bar menu. I had the Mad Mac with 6 cheeses and thick cut bacon and a beer. The bar was not crowded when I went and the service was quick and pleasant. The dish I had was quite tasty, the macaroni was well cooked and the combination of cheeses and bacon was very good. The atmosphere of the place was pleasant. It's not immediately visible from the road coming into Newark as it is on a bit of a hill so you have to be looking for it. Parking is ample and there handicap spaces and east curb access. I would go back again just to try some of the other mac and cheeses on the menu. read more

My waitress was great. My only complaint - she didn't write anything down so my burger didn't have mushrooms and my mojito never made it to the table. Loved the chicken rolls and potato balls, didn't care for the very plain tasting buffalo Mac, complete with 1 uncut chicken tender in the middle of the Mac, and the steak rolls left something to be desired too. Decent selection and great Mac and cheese dishes. Lobster Mac and 4-cheese are favorites. The only problem we had was the volume and cacophony of TVs (20 TVs) and juke box on the bar side (right hand side). Left hand side is family dining and a bit quieter. Whomever was controlling the volume at the bar was cranking it up on all screens. Food wise, they also will fix a party sized Mac and cheese tray. Don't know that I'd dine in again though, especially if we'd get put on the tv/jukebox side. read more

Ok- the Mac and Cheese varieties are great!! I def recommend trying them out. Unfortunately, I haven't been too impressed by the rest of the menu . Mostly bar food-think a step above BWW or Friday's. Service is typically slow, but the servers make up for it in enthusiasm with the frequently themed evenings at the restaurant. I've only ordered delivery from this place and the food comes in a reasonable amount of time, still hot. I LOVE the buffalo chicken mac and cheese and I would recommend it. I've had it twice and it was awesome both times. Even though there is shredded chicken throughout the dish, they place a boneless buffalo bite on top of the cheese crust, which is such a cute touch. I didn't like their version of mozzarella sticks (the name is escaping me at the moment). They were cooked too long and very greasy. The delivery guy was very friendly. This is a friendly atmosphere restaurant, the owner is a really cool guy, and the two young blond bartenders with elaborate tatoos on their arms are really hot. This is a great place to drink beer while watching sports. The local crowd is mostly hill billies and blue collar grey-haired down to earth dudes. Anybody who does not look like this is probably a guest from one of the nearby hotels. It was packed around the bar today, not a single stool available. I ordered a martini and it was okay, not too great. I also ordered an appetizer recommended by the cute little waitress: tuna in sesame with wasabee, and it was okay, although cold ( I had to wait for it a little longer than normal, so it probably just sat on the counter for a while). I give it fours stars because I like this place. it has a very friendly service and several TVs strategically placed around the room. If you like a lot of cheese on your mac n cheese, this is the place for you. It wasn't bad though. The mac yielded in a good way despite the abundance of liquified cheese. I had the Chili mac. Great flavor. Would have liked more jalapeños than just the one for presentation. There was a french onion soup type crust around the perimeter of the dish. The larger portion needs to be shared. If you eat the whole smaller portion, you'll be full for sure. I also had the steak n cheese spring rolls with a semi sweet spicy dipping sauce. Beer selection was good. Let me tell y'all about my first and last experience at this shit-fest. Ordered the lobster Mac, buffalo chicken Mac, and the appetizer sampler. There's no way in hell the macaroni & cheese was freshly made. When it was served, there was no steam radiating from the top, the macaroni wasn't hot, and the sampler was luke-warm. We had a family sit down 10 minutes after we did, and they received their macaroni five minutes after they ordered, which was before we even placed our order! No way that was fresh! They gotta have this food pre-made in large vats and then microwave reheat it upon order. Asked the waitress about it and she said each dish is made individually upon order. BULL.
