The large pavilion is nicely appointed, as are the restrooms, with wrought-iron tables and chairs, beautiful landscaping, tall grasses and hibiscus, and nice background music. It really is a lovely place to sit. Unfortunately, that's where most of the positives ended. Our waitress took about 15 minutes to return after seating us. When I asked how the octopus tacos were prepared, I was told, "It's chopped up in pieces and put in a taco." When I asked how it was seasoned: "There's a bunch of stuff on it. It's blackened." I ordered the octopus appetizer and a baked potato as my dinner, Mom ordered the broiled platter, and we shared fried calamari as an appetizer. I specifically asked that my octopus and potato come with Mom's entrée. Ten minutes later, the waitress returned to tell me the octopus was an appetizer and suggested I order something bigger. I explained again that the octopus and potato were intentionally my dinner. The calamari arrived hot and nicely seasoned, but without the sauce we requested. We also never received the bread being served to other tables. Our entrées arrived about an hour after we sat down. My potato was missing and had to be requested again. When it arrived, it was microwaved--not what I expected for a $6 à la carte baked potato. The octopus was unfortunately inedible. It was so tough and rubbery I could barely get a fork or butter knife through it. When I explained this to our waitress, her response was, "Do you want him to cook it more, or do you want a different knife?" A more experienced waitress later came over and graciously offered me something else. By then Mom had finished her platter, which she enjoyed, and nothing else appealed to me, so I declined. She did remove the octopus from our bill, which I appreciated. I don't normally leave negative reviews over poor service because everyone can have an off day. But when the food itself is inedible and the service compounds the experience, that's different. What makes this especially disappointing is that I've stopped here before to buy seafood to bring home and cook. Based on this dining experience, however, I wouldn't return to eat at the restaurant--and I genuinely feel badly saying that. A knowledgeable, attentive wait staff can make a tremendous difference, particularly when something from the kitchen goes wrong.

This is not our first visit. Today we had fish and chips and fried clam strips meals and we also picked up a couple of dozen blue claw crab to take home and cook for a party. This place is the best of the best. It may be a little far, but it is really good about 25 minutes from the beach.
