The area is very moody lighting and even has small lamps on each table. Our server and staff were great and everything came out timely. We got an old fashioned and a sangria. The sangria is strong but you won't know it until you stand up. We started with the cheese puppies and they had a fantastic pull to them. Some of the best version of cheese curds I've had in a while. My husband and I both had salads and the bowl was too small for the salad but it was a decent salad I do wish the cheese was sprinkled on top as it ended up going to the bottom of the bowl. For an entree I had steak frites. Fries were solid and the cooking of the steak was good with the charcoal but it didn't have much flavor. The chard on the side was also good considering I've never had it. For dessert we had the valentine special chocolate cake and again it was good but nothing super special. We didn't stick around the bar too long but enough to get a winning pull tab. I would come back for the bar tenders they seemed chill.

Would have loved one green item (veggie) on the tray, but obviously that's just personal preference. We had friendly and efficient service. The haddock was excellent. The homemade tartar sauce was also delicious, and the simple fries were the perfect accompaniment. The fish fry came with biscuit that was not good or edible, and the coleslaw wasn't our favorite although some people would probably love the unique flavorings. We were seated in the bar, which was lively and full. If we return again for a date night, I would ask to sit in the dining room.

The dipping sauce may have just been sweet eggroll dipping sauce from the bottle. The papaya salad has pretty much all the ingredients an enthusiast would want. Only thing missing is pork rinds (which you can purchase from the market). Just be sure to specify how you like your salad done. Overall, great bang for you buck. Good portions and flavors. Friendly staff as well. Would be nice to have more options.

I have tried the following (starting with my faves): - Stuffed Wings (5/5): Packed with filling, and flavorful! - Chicken Eggrolls (5/5): Filling is very similar the stuffed wing, and good sized! Perfectly golden sand crispy. It comes with a sweet and sour sauce (1/5). I would prefer a spicy peanut sauce. - Papaya (5/5): Legit, with remnants of tamarind and crab! Definitely why I will be returning to the deli. This is made more Laos-style (dark and fishy), rather than Thai-style (light and sweet). - Purple Sticky Rice (5/5): Pairs perfectly with everything on their menu! - Steamed Tilapia (4/5): Good flavors! But if you're not a fan of picking thru all the little bones, this may not be for you. - Hmong Sausage (3/5): Flavors are okay, but nothing special. I would rather buy the frozen ones and cook them at home. - Pepper Sauce (1/5): This comes with the meats that you ordered. It's watered down, sweet with a couple slivers of Thai chili and cilantro. I did see that they sell small containers of a more potent pepper sauce for an extra $1. I assumed that was what came with my order, but it was completely different. Will definitely pay extra for that next time!! The seating area is clean and very spacious. The new refrigerators look beautiful and hold a lot more products--from Asian greens, to dairy products and an array of beverages! The owners are great, and have reached out to the community for feedback on products and services. Aside from Asian products, they strive to provide African, Latino and American products. This includes fresh produce and meats, dry/canned goods, sweets, frozen products/foods, and so much more! Check it out for yourself!

We came later in the day on my Sunday visit, so a few things were already sold out, but I was able to order the most delicious selection of vegetarian sides and it was so filling. The sauce that came in a little dish was extraordinarily delicious. I would have ordered a whole jar to go if that was possible. The restaurant is spacious, well-lit, clean, and the artwork is beautiful. Great date spot. I loved the vibe and everyone was in a great mood. The two women who were working that day were super kind and answered all of our questions. They made us feel very welcome and it was a beautiful experience. I can't wait to return, every week. Or more! I am hooked!

I'm always looking for meat sticks which I couldn't find and the guy carving a spine on the table asks can I find you something so I say meat sticks and he says like regular or hot and I say hot. He goes in the back and packages me up some on the spot. I asked the guy as someone traveling through what's a must have take with me and he says the summer sausage so I grabbed one also. The place looked clean with a country charm. The hot meat sticks were very lean and almost a jerky like texture with some nice heat and tasty. The summer sausage was also really good and I'm glad I got some. I also grabbed some real dog bones for my friends dogs and they loved them. If your in the area I recommend stopping by.

We arrived at 9 and tried to frt seated early. No dice. But we sat the bar and had spritzers and appetizers. Not bad! Lots of local brews and ciders, plus plenty of open sparkling wine. The signature sardines were imported and served in the tin. What, you thought they came from lake Monona? It's across the parking lot, but these were from Spain. I'm told they were good. Let my take a moment to mention how friendly the service was. At the bar and all the helpers, I can't believe how kind and friendly they were. Order a little or a lot they were there to serve. By the time we got a table we were well on our way. Our server was excellent. Super nice, and knowledgeable about the menu He talk to us about the menu and took our orders from memory. We ordered everything from his suggestions. It was good move. We had the special scallops. They were 10U size, meaning 10 her pound. Each plate came with three peices. Th hey were good. We also ordered the lamb chops. Seated with a burnt crust. I think wrapped in bacon. Wow we really enjoyed it too. Dessert almost got skipped we're so full from a weekend of eating. He highly recommended the butterscotch pudding. It was like a big cup of pudding. It was amazing, highly recommend. We also shared a standard vanilla crème brûlée, which was merely very good. Light fluffy and perfectly crusted. Yes the food was good. The vibe was energetic. But what really made it enjoyable me was the friendly service and knowledge of the food.

Located in the Machinery Row Building at the large intersection of Williamson Street and John Nolen…read moreDrive, Sardine is a local, modern and elevated spot serving up fresh and creative dishes with a menu rooted in local and sustainable dishes, especially of the seafood variety! We found our way to Sardine after their recent nod in the NY Times, so we made a reservation for a Thursday evening and off we went! The location is stellar, not only is the space expertly curated to give a slightly elevated vibe, but it also provides a fish house-y feeling as the colors, decor, lighting and wood throughout lend themselves to a spot known for seafood. In addition to the interior, they are located right on the lakefront, which creates calming and gorgeous views from inside or outside! Before diving into the food, we landed on a few cocktails to start the night off with. The cocktail menu was well laid out with house and classic cocktails along with a section solely dedicated to tableside served Absinthe! We went with a classic and house cocktail respectively. I seemed to enjoy my Pimms Cup a bit more than my buddy enjoyed his Old Fashioned, but he made a pivot to a beer for his second drink, so all was saved! Food wise, as noted, they are seafood forward, but have a few other offerings for those land dwellers! The menu is not expansive, but it is robust in the areas of offerings from apps to oysters, salads to sides and of course entrees. For our starter, we went with the warm goat cheese, because I am currently obsessed with warm fancy cheese dip style dishes, no shame! The cheese came with grilled bread, however the bread was a bit hard and made enjoying the creamy texture and feel of the goat cheese complicated. I would have much preferred a softer variety of bread or toast, or a less grilled portion. For dinner once of us went seafood, the other steak. The swordfish was light, well cooked and delightful. The steak frites were a bit heavier with less components, but no less tasty! The mustard sauce served on the side was perfection and a perfect accompaniment. For a fairly plain dish, the simple preparation was good, and the fries were crisp and well seasoned. It was not the best steak frites I have ever had, but it was a steak dish from a seafood spot, so I respect it and still enjoyed it quite a bit! Service was stellar from entry to exit. Getting to the host(ess) stand can be a bit confusing as it is located in the middle of the restaurant, but once there, they take care of you! Our server was kind, friendly, helpful and a joy to interact with. Overall, Sardine was a great evening with a solid meal, good drinks, great service and a uniquely Madison vibe!
