We usually like Mad Jacks for lunch. Just a quick decision last night to get something quick to eat. We got calamari for appetizer. Mistake on our part, not fresh, salty, lots of fillers and lacked a contrast of flavor. When something fried with lots of batter/breading, maybe some acid or sweetness will balance it off? I got the short rib sandwich. The pretzel buns were so soggy from the short rib and tomatillo salsa. Maybe serve the tomatillo on the side? Tasted good, just a mess to eat! Finally the place seemed like it lacked a refresh. From the menu, painting to the furniture. It just didn't feel "clean". Overall we'll stick to lunches when needed, but this may even change that for us too. read more

Very cute space with average service and food. We had to wait on drinks for quite some tim and then we ordered everything at once to speed it up, but the drinks didn't come. We asked again and they came but then the refill didn't. It was lunch time on a weekend but only one other table in the dining area so not sure what the delay was. The menu reads like the food would taste elevated but feels like it's missing something in terms of flavor. My husband got the chicken Marsala which was breaded (not expected) and overly salty. Good portion for lunch though. Really want to love the pear and goat cheese salad but again missing acid to brighten it up. My Mom and I decided to try this place off the recommendation of a friend. It's not a very big restaurant, but it is cozy and comfortable. There is a nice bar area to hangout or watch a game. The dining room tables were well spaced for proper social distancing which was appreciated. Our server was polite, friendly and attentive. Now for the food...My salad was tasty, the chicken was chargrilled and complimented the sweet from the fruit. Mom raved about her burger which was done to perfection. I did manage to snatch a fry when she wasn't lookIng and they were crispy. We will definitely be back for lunch or dinner sometime. I admit I was a little hesitant opening up my Yelp app on the way to Aurora Farms Premium Outlets to look for a bite to eat. But several pioneering Yelpers had recommended this classy yet cozy grill conveniently located off the main road, so it was definitely worth a shot. A few minutes after parking and walking the stone path to the door, we were the first ones seated on the covered patio out front. Looking around, you'll notice there's also a side patio strung with lights for those extra crowded summer nights. Though the hostesses greeting us were pretty casually dressed, the waiters were dressed in spiffy black and whites and well-mannered. The lunch menu is filled with all manner of meaty sandwiches, salads, and soups. One of the daily specials was a spinach wrap with a more tropical seafood bent. We ordered the Calamari to start, and even though the kitchen forgot the capers, this is some of the best calamari I've ever had. A light but crispy shell around tender squid and octopus morsels. Drizzled with aoili for extra creaminess. None of the tough, leathery bites that pass for calamari at other pubs! As we found out later though, this is an appetizer you should try to finish in-house... Unless you enjoy the potent perfume of seafood in your car on a warm day. Next we split a Short Rib Sandwich, which we asked them to slice in half and came out presented open faced on a pretzel bun with a side of shoestring fries. The horseradish relish cuts down the heaviness of the juicy meat, and you can never go wrong with a pretzel bun! I realized in the middle of conversing that I had been talking with my mouth full because I couldn't stop eating the fries. They look like your average thin-cut, salted breed at first glance, but something about them brings out the addictive personality in me. Were I to live in the area, I could see this becoming a regular spot to enjoy a patio lunch. Dinner prices would probably keep me away unless for a special occasion. The brief glimpse of the inside on my way to the bathroom leads me to believe the cute interior is no less enjoyable. read more

First time trying this place in Aurora. Super easy to find and park. They have an awesome patio and private room. We did a company diner inside a private room. The staff is really nice and friendly. A little slow to be honest but really respectful. The food was amazing for everyone but the vegetarian choices is pretty much limited to one side salad. The waitress was attentive and happy to substitute a sourdough bun instead of a pretzel bun at our request. The food came out just as we asked. The French fries were hot and especially good. The short rib sandwich was very tasty. Portions weren't overly large but were adequate. The waitress checked back for drink refills as well as to see if there was anything else we needed. This was our first time at Mad Jacks but I would go back again. They have Tuesday and Wednesday night specials so that could be the reason to try them again. read more

This is a super cute restaurant, I love converted homes. Our waiter was very friendly and prompt. I got the salmon salad and it was very good but tiny. I left still very hungry. For $17 this should not be the case. We also got an order of their homemade chips because the girl I was with had about 4 on her sandwich plate and enjoyed them. So we each had about 5 more. They were crispy, flavorful and delicious but another small portion. Overall good food but portions are too small for the cost. I would go back and give it another try however! read more

Not the cheapest place around, but there is one reason I keep coming back - one of the best burgers I've ever had. I don't know if they put crack on their burgers or what it is - there is no special ingredients, nothing out of the ordinary, just a damn good burger. Mad Jacks is located in the heart of Aurora OH, a beautiful town full of historic homes, a white steepled church, and some great restaurants. Mad Jacks menu is eclectic with grilled meats, burgers, steaks, chicken, you name it. We sat outside on their patio and ordered a mushroom Swiss burger and a grilled pork chop. Both were yummy. There was a wait for food and server forgot about us for a long time. During our dessert we were told they were closing. I found this to be disappointing because some of delays weren't on us. How is this place even still open? The dirty 20 year old carpeting throughout sets the expectation as soon as you walk in. Zero atmosphere with neon bright white lighting, it's loud loud loud, service is horribly slow, and the food is worse than an airport buffet. I got the short rib sandwich.... it was clear the hard pretzel bun that was impossible to chew threw, had been freezer burnt for at least a year... The "short" rib name was a fitting description because it was very "short" on the amount they offered between the buns....Just an all around bummer and buzz kill. Won't be back. When an airport Golden Corral would be a better option.... yikes...Mad Jacks needs to rethink what they are doing. I'm not sure a Complete remodel, staff and management would even help though. Fabulous! We had a party of 8, so they put us in a side building where we had the room all to ourselves. Ryan our server was great and very accommodating. The food was excellent, especially the planked salmon (and Ryan arranged to substitute the Brussel sprouts side for the corn, which was a very appreciated suggestion). In my mind, Aurora always had a bad reputation for not having many good restaurants. I think I feel differently now. Mad Jack's is tucked away in an old house right before the main stretch of Aurora Farms. You probably wouldn't find it unless you were looking for it--it blends in so well, and has but a small outdoor sign! This place is really cute. Because it's in an old house, the inside is quaint and cozy. The tables, chairs and décor remind me of being at a relative's house. The walls have paintings of dogs in proper black tie, and the main indoor seating looks like it could be closed to be a private room. They also have an outdoor patio, and a tented patio with additional seating. The acoustics indoors are a little odd, so just be prepared that it can be pretty loud inside. The menu at Mad Jack's was really enticing. My Mom and I both had salads (I had the salmon salad, she had the harvest chicken), and both were huge. All the ingredients were fresh, the portion was super generous, and the salmon was cooked well. I'm not normally a person who craves a salad, but I would come back here again just for the salad. Mad Jack's was a really excellent choice for a quick lunch en route to Aurora Farms! read more

Aurora is a quiet suburb in the southeastern outskirts of Cleveland. So no, this ain't Tremont or Ohio City. But out of this farmland crops up this place that offers food that would be, in my view, the best you can get that's similar to a downtown foodie spot. Not at par with being adventurous or eclectic, but very good enough to intrigue the palate. I'm giving in 5-stars just for being the only such place with imagination in the whole town. Patio seats are plenty! And... more importantly it is NOT located in an architectural monstrosity we call a strip mall -- but in some strip that resembles a refurbished "old" barn town. Charming feel. The calamari passed what I call the rubber band test, it was soft and extremely tender. The rib-eye steak was cooked to the correct temperature and was tastily combined with their own horseradish sauce (although without the dark charred crust you'd see in them fancy steakhouses which I feel is the best way to have steak). Bottom line though -- it's what I'd call a great steak for the price. All food was served hot. Service was excellent. read more

This place is truly a foodie's delight. The menu rotates each season, and I always struggle to choose an entree because it's hard to choose just one. They also make excellent cocktails, which is an especially strong compliment coming from someone who lived in the South for nearly 10 years. On our latest visit, we sat on the patio. There are two patios - one large one in the front under a tent and a smaller courtyard patio in the back. It was private and quiet, perfect for a date night. We ordered the pecan-crusted goat cheese with blueberry compote, and it was delicious. For my entrée, I selected the Lake Erie Walleye, and my husband got the salmon. Both were perfectly cooked. To drink, we tried the spicy old fashioneds. In a word - AMAZING. I'll definitely frequent this place. The inside is also quaint as it appears to be an old house, but the dining rooms can get a little loud in the winter when there's a large crowd.
