My wife and I went here last night with some friends. It was our first experience at Downtown 140. This place was very busy, so if you're going on a weekend, highly recommend a reservation. Even Uptown 140(upstairs bar with appetizers available) was super busy. Kind, nice, and attentive service from the staff. The atmosphere was perfect for a date night or special occasion. Our friends hold this place in high regard and had us hyped up to try. Good variety menu for drinks and food. I was told they rotate the menu to always introduce new dishes. Our friends ordered a red blend that was very flavorful. I had a lavender cocktail that was strong yet good. We had calamari for an appetizer and it is one of my favorite experiences with calamari. Very flavorful in a crisped bun with a savory sauce. My wife had a crab cake and I ordered the chicken dish. Chicken is often not very exciting to order, but this dish caught my eye when browsing the menu. I was blown away by how well they had the chicken prepared and how flavorful the sauces and additions were to this dish. Even my wife loved it. My wife enjoyed her crab cake. This is a pricey restaurant, but you get what you pay for. I saw several menu items I have interest in trying, so it's safe to say we'll be back. read more

Acoustics did not allow for easy conversations as were craned to hear the person across from us...I ordered the fish special, nicely cooked but paired with sweet ube mash, didn't really enjoy the match. First time coming to Downtown 140. We were a group of 4 with a 7:30pm Friday night reservation. Service was attentive and spectacular (multiple people checked in on us to make sure we were happy with our food and drinks and they were incredibly kind). Food was delicious and well timed (probably top 2 out of all of the restaurants in Hudson/Stow/CF). Ambiance was intimate, warm, and inviting. What more could you ask for?! Been a while but we thought it was about time to return to "Downtown 140" in beautiful Hudson, Ohio. The quaint little village is as picturesque as can be. Easily equal to Chagrin Falls, Chardon Square or any other in northeast Ohio. We arrived and parked along the main street, strolled down the block to the front door. Upon entering you desend the stairway to your left. At the bottom you pass through a glass door into a very nicely appointed dining room (see attached picture). This is a "below the sidewalk" establishment and gives off a smokey, speakeasy type vibe... very classy. As you enter you will discover the hostess is at the far end of the room where the entrance from the rear parking lot is. Evidently that is where the majority of customers enter. I prefer the front... no matter. She saw us right away and immediately walked over and greeted our party. We were quickly seated at our table for the evening. A nice gentleman introduced himself as Christian, our server for the evening. He was quick with a smile and full of knowledge and energy. We placed our drink order and began to peruse the menu. The regular and evening specials menus are more than satisfactory to make any pallet happy. We began with "Deviled Eggs" topped with Caviar, need I say, they were marvelous. Also, the "Oysters Rockefeller" were excellent. The choice of entree's are very nice. My wife chose "Chilean Seabass" Spice Rubbed Carrot/Ginger Puree Haricot Verts Almond/Yuzu Chimichurri. I went with my absolute favorite, "Lamb Chops" Herb Crusted Dijon Crispy Gnocchi Green Peppercorn Jus. So did my brother. And his wife ordered the "Sea Scallops" Roasted Beets Humboldt Fog Pistachios Orange/Saffron Butter. Everything was exceptional as always. KUDOS to the entire kitchen staff. We followed dinner with a fine cup of coffee and shared a couple orders of "Whipped Chocolate Mousse" infused with chopped hazelnuts... fabulous. So, as I have said before, if you enjoy "Fine Dining" that is consistently excellent; make the trip to Hudson, Ohio and visit "Downtown 140". You'll be glad you did. read more

My wife and I dined here for the third time in three years. Overall, this is a great restaurant. The location and setting in the restaurant is very quaint and interesting with us, exposed brick, and wooden pillars. Our server was very attentive and did a great job with our table. My biggest gripe is the slow service coming from the kitchen. We were told the escargot would be a longer wait due to the cooking process, but it came out over an hour after we sat down. I feel this is extensive and by the time we got the appetizer, my patience had boiled over, and I didn't enjoy the food as much as I would like. The escargot, however, is exceptional and certainly a different touch with the puff pastry. I ordered the rack of lamb and was hoping for something different than my usual steak. It was good, but had a little more fat than my liking and for the price it was not worth it. The grilled gnocchi with the meal was just OK but not the type of gnocchi I like you would get at an authentic Italian restaurant. My wife had the chicken fried lobster meal and it was fantastic. It was actually better than the lamb by a long shot. This is a great restaurant, but I do agree with other reviews that it is over priced. I have also experienced slow kitchen service three times now and you just need to be patient if you want to enjoy your experience. From Andy and Bridget making you feel like family to Sara's personal attention, this is a must for anyone looking for a guaranteed great foodie experience. Chef Clinton House and his team brought their A-game as usual. For a best in the area experience you must dine at Downtown 140. Each dish was topped by the next. Do yourself a favor and reserve a table soon. One should not be in a hurry and treat this like the typical restaurant who's primarily interested in turning tables; rather this is a dining experience to be savored. Wow. My wife and I went here for our 5 year anniversary and both agreed this was the best dinner out we've ever had. We were looking for a place we could try multiple small plates that were unique, intricate, and delicious and Downtown 140 exceeded all of our expectations. From duck with fig jam, to lamb chops with gnocchi, to lobster Mac and cheese, the food was both picturesque and still filling and so tasty. Avoid!! Food is terrible. Owner is arrogant! Patrons do not want certain foods on the menu and paying hundreds of dollars to sit in exposed windows seeing protestors is not with it. The owner needs to get educated!! The process of producing foie gras involves force-feeding the birds (gavage) to enlarge their livers, which is a practice that has drawn criticism for animal cruelty. If read more

Just dined for the first time at Uptown 140. Everything is BEAUTIFUL, quaint, charming, special but... it was an extremely disappointing experience. We ordered onion soup, a salad, the chicken entree and the short rib entree. Everything was delicious EXCEPT the short ribs were SO fatty and spongy I absolutely couldn't eat them. The sauce was delicious and I was trying to find some meat that wasn't coated in slimy fat, but there just wasn't any. $48 entree and all could eat was the polenta it was sitting on. The worst part was, after the server said he'd take it off the bill, it was still on there. When I asked about that, I was informed that the owner said not to take it off. Not only was my meal inedible, but I was made to feel like I was trying to stiff them on my bill. I had to leave as I was on the verge of tears. The highlight was the large party at another table laughing loudly and yelling obscenities. I just don't expect to hear someone yelling "No f*cking way!" The food was good, but terribly expensive. I'm attaching hopefully a picture of my husband's steak dinner which is you can see it was mostly fat. The worst part was a table 2 tables away from us. They were so loud, screaming, laughing so loud it totally disturbed all the people in the restaurant and still the management would not do anything about it until much later. I'm not sure if I can post this picture of the fat from my husband's steak, but it was criminal. I'm giving five stars because I was delighted. And that's not easy. I haven't had good service since 2019. I haven't been surprised by food since Polska Chata (Rochester NY) in 2017. From the time we walked in, we were made to feel special. And we crashed the gates on a Saturday night with no reservation. They found us a table for two. Lovely place! We came here for Sunday dinner with the good friends. The place was much nicer inside than outside. The restaurant offered modern American food with the touch of French cuisine. The restaurant is wasn't spacious but cozy. I liked the red sofas and dimmed light. Our waitress was smiley and friendly- she willingly answered the questions about the menu and gave good suggestions what to order. Everyone ordered different entree. I started from the appetizer- escargot. Honestly? It was wonderful but not for the appetizer. First, the preparation time was 30 min. Second, The portion was huge and made me instantly full. I would suggest to order escargot as a main dish not as an appetizer. For my entree, I asked for seasonal fish with the sides. I enjoyed my meal and the atmosphere. Absolutely AMAZING food. My wife and I celebrated our Anniversary at Downtown 140. Everything was incredible; the service, atmosphere , and food! They have a great wine list so we started with a bottle of 2016 Jordan cab. We started with the breads and spreads which were three delicious, warm homemade breads and three spreads that were all wonderful. Next we had their baby romaine and charred sprout salads that we split do we could try both. They each had incredible flavor. The baby romaine salad had nice bright citrusy flavor that the pickled onions cut perfectly. The charred sprouts salad was rich and one of the best salad/appetizers I've ever had. Amazing! For entrees she had the hanger steak and I had the scallops with crab fried rice. The chef at downtown 140 has mastered how to combine sweet, savory,and decadent in every bite. Again we shared the entrees and were loving every bite. I travel for work a fair amount and have been fortunate to dine at some of the best restaurants. Downtown 140 is right there with the best. Truly a hidden gem in Hudson. We will be back for sure! read more

The service is excellent. It's a smaller restaurant, lower level (park in the deck on the backside). The tables feel close together, so not a, private feeling. Nice Long Bar on one side of the restaurant. It's a good idea to get reservations, because it fills up quickly especially weekends. They have a rotating Seafood food menu, basically what's fresh in the Market. Along with more traditional restaurant fare, chops and steak. For dessert I had the chocolate pie. It really is that stunning. Ironically, romantic and intimate places don't make for the best IG photo spots but there are a few well lit areas in this cozy little restaurant. Downtown 140 feels like a speakeasy. It's dimly lit and you can see every corner from wherever you sit. Our table was a high top near the bar, which given the choice, I would not choose again. When you dine here, it is an extended period of time. Your meal is paced to a certain rhythm and sitting on those high chairs gets leg numbing. Additionally, my napkin kept slipping off my dress and onto the ground. I have to give big props for the staff for picking it up and even refreshing my napkin as I dropped it around 8 times-no joke. Our server was very knowledgeable about every wine we asked about and the ins and outs of the menu. I LOVE a savvy server. So- the food. What we came here for: Absolutely stunning. Everything from the complimentary bread to the charcuterie board to the steak frites to the cookie dessert was incredible. My boyfriend surprised me with this amazing little place! Even just walking up to the place I was amazed! the atmosphere is fantastic, I love the little outdoor seating area. When going inside it's downstairs in this little basement wine cellar type feel. It's so orignal and different! We ordered the bread appetizer with 3 different spreads, all were amazing. Then my boyfriend had the duck and I had escargot, both were fantastic. the risotto that came with the duck was the best we ever had and the duck was perfect. The escargot had puff pastry and a truffle butter with it. Best cooked escargot i've ever had! For dessert we then had the scones and it was a great way to end the evening. The Hudson residents gather here to talk about how busy they are and to savor the refined culinary talent of chef Clinton House III. We're here for the escargot mostly and secondarily the hanger steak. It is always a delight to spend the evening with Billy. He is jovial and knowledgeable about the menu. The escargot is what I really want to talk about though. I've thought about ordering it to go (escargot to go), but I don't have the balls. I've thought about how I want to be buried with it...or buried in it? One day? I know that every time I eat it, I feel like I can die happy. This is not an exaggeration. Cutting into the flaky puff pastry is like exfoliating angel skin. It. shouldn't. Be. Allowed. The sinful sauce (what even is it?) is more inspired than your traditional garlic and oil snail bath.
