Lemon cake with lemon curd and Passion fruit icing. Delicious!
    A. M.

After seeing a number of photos of their desserts, me and my husband decided to order our wedding cake from Mad Batters. When we attended the cake tasting the baker, had everything ready and had some very nice flavors for us to choose from. We immediately found our favorite.. We got an individual cake and cupcakes since we had a very small wedding. The cake we selected had passion fruit icing and a delicious lemon curd. The cake itself with lemon as well. I requested kind of an ombré color effect on the cake and tropical decorations for the cupcakes. All were delivered as requested. When I picked up the cakes, they looked absolutely beautiful and more perfect than I could've asked for. The guests raved about the flavor, especially the frosting. I couldn't have asked for a better cake and I will definitely order another on our one year anniversary. If you were looking for a special occasion cake, I believe this is a great choice. They also have an adorable café that serves coffee and desserts with a very whimsical theme. Do yourself a favor and try them out.

Absolutely a must!! First off you should really go to their location they have espresso drinks and desserts/ pastries and the best Alice in Wonderland themed cafe!! Even just seeing the decorations is a must! Great for a mother daughter date 100%! This is a local business! I was looking to support a local business when purchasing my daughter's birthday cake! I brought in my own cake topper and disco balls and showed them picture of my inspirations and they made it come true!! I would highly recommend them! I will return!! Thank you again for the beautiful cake my daughter loved it!

This is such a cute bakery! I absolutely love the Wonderland theme and all of the decor feels so special and magical. I believe you can reserve the side parlor room for gatherings as well, which would be so cute for a kid birthday, baby/wedding shower, etc. On my first visit with my young daughter, the woman who helped us (I think she is the owner) asked if we'd been in before. When I responded no, she looked at my daughter and said, "I have something for you then..." and picked up a small bronze colored key out of a cabinet and handed it to her to keep. How cute! Your food and drink options here are plentiful! There's a full coffee bar with lots of special drinks options, homemade chai and other sauces, and I noticed the pricing to be very reasonable for all the drinks. As a bakery, the food selection leans heavily toward sweet items (cookies, cupcakes, cheesecake slices, bars and the like) but I did spot one or two savory options on display. My daughter selected a peach/raspberry cupcake and I went for one of the shortbread bars called a Wonder Bar, which seemed to be a caramel and chocolate option. I was surprised to find that the cupcake tasted very fresh in the fruit flavors and wasn't overly sweet. It's not something I would typically choose, but was impressed. My bar was good, but actually a little flat in flavor. I think a good sprinkle of salt on top would have really helped! Mad Batters has kind of odd hours (only open certain days of the week) and I'd stopped by once before when the bakery was said to be open but wasn't, so be sure to check! A few parking spaces are available along the east side of the building.

    Awesome wedding cake

The best little tucked away bakery with an awesome Wonderland vibe! She bakes the best cakes, cookies and a wide selection of baked goods made from scratch with wholesome ingredients. I love that it's along the bike path so we stop in often for coffee and treats! She also did my daughters wedding cake and wine and beer infused cupcakes ...thee best!

Although the location may be off the beaten path a bit, it's well worth the trip inside this super cute bakery. I take my 3 year old for a treat here every now and then, and they do catering. The cake pops, coffee cake, Italian sodas, and home-made chai are some favorite menu items. But we really just love the whimsical atmosphere, with everything decorated in an Alice in Wonderland theme. There is also a separate sitting room with a couch and children's books that we love to visit. It would be wonderful for a small tea party gathering.

Cute hidden gem of a bakery/coffee shop! Great place for a meet up or to take your child for a special treat. It is decorated beautifully with a cute Alice and wonderland theme. Tea is served in a proper tea pot and my toddlers cake pop was served on a cute tea pot plate. Atmosphere is great. Multiple specialty coffees and teas. I got a orange roll cinnamon roll that was delicious.

Went here recently with my two elementary-school-age boys for a reward for doing good at school. They picked a snickerdoodle hero and a chocolate cupcake, and I got a white peach green tea. All was delicious, kids were so happy! They let us have a sample birthday cake truffle, as well. The wonderful owner gave my kids some faux skeleton keys and they were off attempting to open every lock and key hole. This place is so cute and the little back room lounge area is magical the garden out front is also a wonderful place to take pictures!! Definitely captures magical and mystical world of Alice in wonderland!

    Hero cookies

Mad batters is doing preorders with pickup right now- I ordered some heroes which look amazing! Without even tasting them though, I have to commend them for the steps they are taking to ensure customer safety. After I paid they wiped down the card terminal, and as I left the door knob. As a customer, I appreciate these steps. I worry about the terminal that everyone is touching to sign, and knowing that this was wiped down between the last customer praying and me is awesome. I did try a nibble for this review- the first one I bit into was a ginger snap/molasses type cookie with a marshmallow type filling. I am not a ginger snap fan, but this was quite good! The cookie had a good texture and the flavor wasn't overpowering. This will probably be my least favorite in the variety pack and I like it- which means the others are going to be amazing! *Update* I ate the rest of the gingery cookie. The texture is literally perfect. I would order this by itself anytime! I did try the sugar cookie as well, and it was delicious. Order from this bakery and get your yummy treats here! I'll definitely support them in the future!

    Fluffernutter

After a relatively crappy morning, I decided to reset my day for the better by visiting a new-to-me bakery. Enter Mad Batters. I'd seen lots of their posts on Facebook and Instagram but hadn't made the time to visit yet. I'm glad I did. The shop is small but cute with it's a Alice in Wonderland theme. Their display case is small yet packed with items in and on top of it. After asking some questions to the very helpful associate, I decided on a Fluffernutter bar and a Cheshire Cookie bar. The Cheshire Cookie reminded me of a 7 layer bar: white and milk chocolate chips, I think there was butterscotch, coconut, some condensed milk, maybe oats? It was tasty, but really outshined by the Fluffernutter bar. The Fluffernutter was delish: a chocolate shortbread-like cookie crust topped with peanut buttery, marshmallowy, fudgey layer and a chocolate ganache layer. Super sweet but so, so good. I'll be back because there are some other items I want to try, like their cupcakes and heroes, which are oversized cookies made into sandwiches with buttercream filling.

Don't skip this part when you drop by. A friend warned me that Saturday market was happening so parking might be difficult but the 30 minute and one hour slots in front of the bakery are very helpful. I ordered a 20 ounce Matcha with water, a 20 ounce iced black black tea infused with vanilla bean -- it's incredibly refreshing! -- and one of their amazing freshly squeezed orange juices. It's a bakery to be sure but don't let that fool you: the beverages here are just THAT GOOD. One drink doesn't feel like it's going to be enough... and in my experience, it's usually not. There are staff are all very helpful...there but today one young woman stood out fif only I could remember her name!) but she has glasses with hair tied back and was going through the line taking orders to ensure that customers were greeted and welcomed and had a chance to place their orders in advance. Their jalapeño biscuits are outstanding -- don't skip the honey butter... it deserves to be slathered on -- and if you're looking for comfort food, try their banana bread loaf or their zucchini bread. One more thing that I find really wonderful here: at 2 o'clock there espresso goes on sale. Yes. You heard that right. So for those of us who feel that coffee should happen all through the day... This is your place for an espresso deal.

When I was growing up we didn't really visit bakeries, I don't drink coffee, and my mom was a black coffee only sort of person, so not really much need. Whilst visiting Saturday Market I stopped in with my tired, grumpy toddler to get her a hot chocolate. I got myself one too, and it was excellent. The whipped cream especially was nice; I am positive it's made from heavy whipping cream and it was so yummy I just wanted to eat some whipped cream. I know my kiddo enjoyed hers, especially if the state of her face and clothes was any indication. I've had a lot of hot chocolate, including from Mindy's in Chicago which many like to claim as the best (it's good, but honestly a bit too thick for me), but I think Palace may have the best. The secret is that they use ganache for their hot chocolate. It's the ganache that they sell in the shop, so it's easy to acquire. The staff member mentioned that she likes to dip strawberries in it, and she said they keep it in the fridge and it stays good for a while. I'm not sure I'll pick some up this time since we're heading into the warm weather months, but we'll be getting some (or having my sister send some) as we move into autumn for sure. I will say that if you get hot chocolate you will need to check work--TWICE I asked for whipped cream, at two different visits, and they didn't put any on (though they left space for it, so either fill it with chocolate or add the cream please). I was planning to get a maple bar here, but when I saw them changed my mind--they didn't look particularly appetizing. They had several other pastries though so it was an easy swap out for a kouign amann, my favorite pastry, and a marionberry strudel. Both were great. The marionberry strudel was particularly special since marionberries are more tart blackberry variant native to Marion County, Oregon; marionberries are rarely found outside Oregon, and if so not much beyond the border states. It was overflowing with marionberry and hit the spot, and my little one was a fan too. There was a good amount of seating, too, spread across two rooms. There's an entrance both from the Park Street side and Pearl; on the west side you'll get to see the bakers hard at work. They had some huge breakfast burritos that looked really good, but since I wasn't heading home immediately we took a pass on them--this time. Parking is street only, though it's not unlikely that you'll find parking on Pearl, Broadway, Oak, or Park.
