Macy's is one of my favorite places to shop! How could I give only 4 stars rather than 5? Well... it's smaller than other Macy's, and the "sales", and deals aren't as impressive as other Macy's stores I've visited. The makeup section had very limited help. There was literally NOBODY at any of the makeup counters to help. I think there were about 3 salespeople at the sunglass section, two dealing with the name brand purses, and nobody to be found to help us with the makeup. Very disappointing on that account, but- it was during the holidays, so I guess I should give them some leeway, although maybe they should have staffed a little better. (It was Christmas week). Some good sales, some not so great sales, and some typical "Macy's" outrageous prices. I was excited when I first entered and saw 50% off signs, but those were a bit misleading. The things I thought were 50% off were 'next to' the real items that were half off. Of course you don't find that out until you get to the register! Macy's is right on the corner, plenty of parking, and at least 2, if not 3 different entries from outside. read more

The Make-up Artist Extraordinare who selected the perfect foundation, powder, blush, and concealer for me at the MAC counter today was named Leayla. She applied it expertly and gave me a how-to-do-it illustration. She did not try to sell me more products than I needed. She was not pushy. She made me look naturally beautiful--even my husband said as much. This was the best makeover I've ever received at a cosmetics counter! Thanks, MAC and Leayla. I'm getting married in August, and since I had a huge career change 5 years earlier that switched me from wearing Alfani or INC and from wearing Franco Sarto shoes, to wearing sneakers and scrubs every day. I needless to say, truly forgot how to shop. So, I used Macy's free personal shopper service. WOW was I impressed. I went to Macy's web site, and sent them an email letting them know what my occasion was, and what store I was looking at going to. I received an email the next day thanking me for contacting them, and gave me the name of the personal shopper - Lorene Timko, her contact information, and told me I'd be contacted by her directly. I received an email from Lorene the next day. We sent Lorene about 18-20 pictures of what I was looking for, and we scheduled a day for me to go in. I arrived on time, and met her. I had my own dressing room, where she had pulled from the floor about 20 different options. I tried them all on, she gave me her honest opinion, got different sizes, and talked me through the whole process. By the time we were done, we had a good idea of what I was looking for, and had a great starting point. I've made another appointment with her for 2 weeks to finalize my outfit, and to look at shoes, under garments, and accessories. I was extremely satisfied, and if you're on the hunt for new items, but don't know where to begin - call Lorene! You wont' be disappointed!! read more

I've been to this MAC several times and look for the same talented MA who always helps me out. I get caught up in trying and testing things, I forget to ask her name. Anyways, I suggest go during the week but on this occasion I went on the weekend which was my bad and the experience was totally different. The two girls working were so caught up in there conversation, they didn't acknowledge me but then comes along a woman (I'm assuming she was the counter manager) who greets me. Macy's Northgate has really gone downhill in recent months. It's always been my go to for good sales and service. I tried 4 cash registers on the 2nd floor today and no one was at any of them. Finally, a clerk came by. She had been walking around the aisles with a cross-body purse over her shoulder. I do have to say that the lady in the 3rd floor bedding department was all alone and managed to help 2 people at once. Kuddos to her. They really need more help or they're risking losing customers. Macy's used to be the place to find well made items of good taste, and the sales associates were of a higher caliber of customer service. There was a time I would have given Macy's all five stars, but not now. It's messy, the customer service is hit and miss, and the last time I tried to shop at the cosmetic department, I had to leave out of self respect. I don't need to put up with rude, disrespectful sales associates. While looking for a foundation that I described as leaving a "dewy" finish, the sales woman at the Elizabeth Arden cosmetic counter looked like I had just asked for a foundation that would look good on a martian. Next, she bluntly said "sit down"... I thought, this doesn't seem to be going well, but I sat. Next she tried a skin tone match. I was't sure about the finish of the foundation, so I asked to see it on my hand. That's when she said, "Why do you want to put it on your hand? Your hand isn't the same color as your face." I explained I wanted to see the finish, but by then, I was ready to leave. I told her I would come back another time. But I doubt it. Hey Macy's, when your customers can't trust your employees to treat them with dignity, we lose interest in returning. I haven't been back to that Macy's since. No interest in returning. read more

Going between Forever 21 and Macy's junior's department is like going between a hip young store ready to take on the world (a la H&M) and a basement rummage sale. After the horrible service and selection from the Coddintown location, I decided to try this location. They had way more employees working, better selection of shoes, but you have to hunt down a sales associate if you want service. I believe the lady I hunted down was Saitip? I was not the only person hunting her down, for there were 3 other people trying to get service. I really liked how she was able to multi-task. If you give her the shoe you want, she'll find the size for you and if your size ain't there, she'll tell you which Macy's location has your style and size. read more

I love Mac but the girls who work here need a serious attitude check. There completely inappropriate, standing there on their cell phones chewing gum, and when you ask for help they finish they're text message. Wow. I would give them no stars to begin. So yesterday MAC released the new cinderella collection, a week or 2 i was approached by one of their employees while i was browsing... I always shop at sephora because i've never been a MAC fan but wanted to give them a try again...she asked if i wanted to have my makeup done when they released this collection with a min $50 spent i was like ok ill give it a try. My app was at 10 am yesterday, the counters were full, lots off people wanting to purchase the product. While i was waiting, i told them i had an app and they said it will be just a moment, so i wait 15 mins pass and im still not being helped i approach them again and say " if i have an app at 10 what time does it really start?" again they say they will be with me in a couple mins, i get helped after 10:30 by this time im over it and the girl who does my makeup does not meet my standards, it was a mediocre makeup application that i could have done on myself and it would have looked 10 times better. I don't see what the hype is about them, I have heard MAC does a better job at makeup applications but this was not the case. If you want to sell a product and want to get new clientele make sure you have enough staff so at least you handle your apps at the time given, especially of you know you are releasing a new line. I visit Macy's about 1x a month and I always leave thinking they didn't have much to choose from. This place was different. It seemed to have newer brands (some really pricey stuff) and a wide selection. I ended spending much more here than I do at the Macy's in my hometown. This place is doing something right! Standard Macy's. No one watching the fitting room, which I prefer, because then you can try on clothes in peace. The bathing suit section is HUMONGOUS, which is why we came in. Got a really great, all-white suit. They really pushed the Macy's card, which I don't need and don't want, but they're told to do that. Can't really blame the employee. read more

Overall this store usually has what I want, there have been a few times I've had to order something but in those cases the staff has always been very helpful- not very fast but very helpful. This location definitely has more to offer than the Coddingtown location. I'm registered here for my wedding and everything on the registry has gone smoothly as well. read more

Shopping during Super Bowl was a very good idea. Once we figured out the layout of Santa Rosa Plaza and parked, we were pleased by the friendliness of the staff, so helpful! And our purchased dresses were hung and wrapped in garment bags--a nice touch that my mother, an avid Macy's shopper, says isn't offered at all locations. We also stopped by the Bare Minerals counter, which we had to ourselves. It was nice to not be in a chaotic shopping environment. read more

First time getting my make up done at MAC and probably my last. I booked an appointment for 2:30 and wasn't seated until 2:50! There was a girl who came in a few minutes late and that backed up everyone else's appointments which was so annoying. While I was waiting (my friend got seated so I was watching her make up being done) the make up artist working on her was so rude to me! Asking harshly why I was just standing there, if I've been helped yet, and just overall gave me a rude attitude. I didn't catch her name but she definitely got me in a bad mood after having to wait 20 extra minutes to even be SEATED. However, Sarah P. did my make up in about 30 minutes! She made me look my best even though she was working a little faster than usual (I had a hair appointment to go to right after). I did like my look except I thought my make up would've been more "glammed up," I feel like most of the things she did to my face could've been done at home if I bought the products myself. But nonetheless I appreciate her working with me and she was so sweet! The quota to get a free make over is $60, but always expect to spend more because everything is just so pricey at MAC. Overall, I don't think I'll be getting my make up done anytime soon here at this place. Just wasn't really worth all of the negative energy. read more

I grew up on the San Francisco store, which is pretty much the flagship of northern California. Anyone can get spoiled shopping at that store, since it pretty much has everything and encompasses the area of a square block!!! Comparing San Francisco to Santa Rosa is pretty much comparing apples to oranges, so I won't attempt to do that here. I just think that with all of the comparisons I've seen in these reviews, it's not fair to expect a small store to give you everything that a big store can. That expectation just has no basis in reality! What I will say instead is that if you are shopping in Sonoma County and don't want to make the looonngg drive to a bigger town, this Macy's is THE place to go! The store carries most everything you need, and they have a great selection in a large array of different departments. I frequently shop in the big women's section [Macy Woman], and they have a nice selection of different items, although the tops do run a bit small, and the jeans stop at Size 24. If you want something with a bit more edge (as I frequently do) or if you need a Size 26, I would suggest checking out Torrid - also at the Plaza. The website Torrid.com is also great, edgier and more gothic. I also shop the home store at Macy's. They have a good range of colors in the towels (although I would love to see more black towels), and they have a pretty good selection of pillows. I recently went shopping for my mom and my husband and checked out the Petite Women's section and the Men's Department. The Petite Women's section is across from Macy Woman and they have a lot of nicer items there that you don't usually see in Petites, like Calvin Klein T-Shirts (Mom loved it). What I don't like are the current lengths in the jeans. I saw lengths anywhere from 26" to 30", which is kind of ridiculous. I am 5'8" and have a 31" inseam, see what I'm saying? My mom is about 5-foot-nothing, with a 22" inseam, so my only hope is to buy her the capris after summer! I guess they are thinking that the petite women are wearing the jeans with heels in the style of the moment. They are forgetting that some petite women have no interest in wearing heels, especially the older ones, so it would be nice to see some pants and jeans that are shorter. The employees in these two womens sections are on the ball, however. When I asked for short jeans, the sales girl said, "The shortest I have are 26" or 27". Damned if she wasn't right, too! I went over there with my tape measure and that was right on the money. The men's section had a good variety of both sizes and styles. They had both older and younger style garments and the sizes were right up into the plus sizes. Many of the shirts were available up to a 2X. The sales people were really busy because of the holiday season, but I waited in line and they walked around with me on two different occasions, helping me to find the items and the sizes I needed. This individual service that you get at Macy's is important to me because my time is very limited. I also found some great wallets on sale in this section, and my husband fell in love with one of them, which is amazing, since he is sooo picky! I also like the regular and fine jewelry sections as well as the cosmetics counters. They are able to give you individual attention there as well. Across the board, the employees try hard, the selections are great for a smaller store, and the service is excellent. The Macy's here far outshines all of the other department stores in this area. As far as cost goes, yes the prices are higher, but you can offset that by getting a Macy's Credit Card and following the sales. They send all of the Macy's Credit Card holders regular coupons by mail and a lot of them can be combined with the sales prices to get you some great prices on quality goods. read more

I had such a great experience here the other day that I had to take a moment to write about it. The women who helped me was named Max and she was working on the third floor. I had ordered a robe online and gotten a great discount because of a coupon (it was a one day only sale, because it was black Friday), but the next day I got an email telling me my order was cancelled because the product wasn't in stock. I decided to go in there and was so happy I ended up talking to Max! She honored the online (expired) coupon, and even let me apply it to a different robe, basically saving me $40. Customer service is what Macy's is known for, other than their high end brands. I love shopping at Macy's because of that. The reason why i only gave 4 stars is because of the paid parking garage which i know isn't their fault but it still makes me prefer shopping at the Coddingtown Macys. MACY'S FINE JEWELRY In July '13 my wife purchased a ruby ring on sale in the fine jewelry dept at Macy's Stanford store, at an original price of $8000 marked down 50%. We had the ring evaluated by a GIA gemologist and appraiser whom we have used in the past for gem evaluations. The gemologist informed us that the ruby was of a quality equivalent to "aquarium gravel" and "extensively glass filled," extremely fragile, and had "no resale value whatever." The ruby was of such poor quality that the gemologist would not charge us for the evaluation. The salesperson apparently wasn't aware of the ruby's poor quality when she sold it, and took the ring back. Since the ring contained ruby material, I suppose we can't complain about its being displayed in the jewelry case with a prominent sign proclaiming it RUBY. I'm personally astounded, however, that the jewelry manager either wasn't aware of the quality of his material, or was aware but did not inform his sales staff or the buyer. My advice: caveat emptor, and don't buy fine jewelry from Macy's. read more

SO , I bought a 700.00 leather recliner last nov. the weld broke so it is not usable. no worries macy's says we will pick it up and give a credit on my card. That's GREAT I think. the girl on the phone tells me they can pick it up either thanksgiving day or Christmas eve. WAIT I say to her, well i can deliver it to YOU. NO she says the stores do not accept furniture returns. Sooo you may have a WARRANTY RETURN , BUT GOOD LUCK GETTING THEM TO COME AND GET IT. the end result is like having no warranty. Macy's clothing quality has been in decline for years, to the point I no longer buy anything there. There are two stores in Santa Rosa and they are both equally dismal. I can't tell the difference between Macy's, JCP, Kohl's, Sears, Target, Kmart or Walmart - it's all mass produced, low-quality clothing. The most recent disturbing trend is the store environment is a mess, making it feel much more like TJ Max or Marshalls - clothes piled everywhere, and it is so crowded with sales racks it is difficult to walk through a department. read more

I returned a kitchen appliance to Macy's that was given as a gift to me but was missing a part. When I opened the replacement it was clear that it had been used previously and returned. There was food crusted on parts of the machine, it was also missing a part, and it had scratches all over it. I called Macy's, sat on hold for 15 minutes only to learn there was nothing they could do. I had to drive back to the store and return it again and get another replacement. Horrible customer service. Macy's has the worst customer service ever. Their sales associates are unknowledgeable and no one seems to care if you actually make a purchase or not. When I asked if I could use Apple pay the associate literally told me she had no idea if I could or not, then stood there and looked at me. Today, I called about a coat and they found it in SF but said they could not help me order it. I could either call myself or drive there to pick it up. No customer service!
