We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who was just as sweet and wonderful as her shop. She designs and makes her own dresses, and we were lucky enough to find some amazing one-of-a-kind pieces that we absolutely love! We also picked up the cutest claw clips and several other fun little goodies. Everything felt so special and unlike anything you'd find at a typical store. Incredibly fun and funky shop with a very sweet girl behind the register yesterday! I found my new favorite purse and a succulent necklace that I just had to have. My mom found a couple pairs of beautiful earrings and almost bought some of the fun hair clips as well - they had hair clips in the shape of lobsters, possums, sewing machines, kitchenaid mixers, popcorn buckets, etc - something for everyone. This was our experience - - so amazing!. It's nearly impossible to walk in, look at everything and walk out without buying some thing! Mad Mod Shop offers a wide diversity of beautiful things and unique clothing made on-site by Andrea, master seamstress, and all-around positive vibes woman. I found a beautifully crafted hair tie and asked if there were more, so my daughter and I would have matching ties. She looked through the basket and said that she would make one on the spot! We had a bit more shopping to do, so we returned to discover a pair of beautifully matched hair ties in a beautiful, sturdy fabric that will last for years. I ordered my first custom dress from the Mad Dress Maker and it was a fantastic experience. Though I started the fitting fairly anxious, the owner/seamstress put me at ease and I left excited, which was a first for me. The dress arrived on time and is absolutely perfect. It is exactly what I wanted, fits wonderfully, and is extremely comfortable. Plus, it's got pockets, and it arrived with a matching scrunchy, which was a lovely surprise. 12/10, will certainly order from her again should we ever need another custom dress. read more

Very unique items in the store, I really like the earrings. The earrings are unusual and I always get a lot of compliments on them, I have the mini gum ball machine, the gummy bears and a heart lollipop. I was stopped by a hot red dress in the window that my bestie would totally rock, so I went inside to inquire on her behalf. This store is ab fab and you should see it. The clothing and accessories range from the vintage looks of the 20s to the 60s, complete with the owner's own first design in production. A majority of the styles seemed to be 40's and 50's trends, but this isn't your average vintage shop. These items are new, and range in sizes in the cutest way: Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, or Liz Taylor. If you know your classic stars then you know what that means. If you don't *sigh* there's always google image I suppose. What kept my attention was the array of gorgeous accessories. Sparkly jewelry, cat eye sunglasses and purses shaped as fruits. I have birthday gifts for my BFF picked out for the next decade! The selection is pretty remarkable here really, with all kinds of sizes for every shape. Quality materials as well. What a wonderful store! The owner takes the retail experience to a higher level by her meticulous choices in what she makes and sells and how it is displayed. In addition to her own amazing designs, she has a whole community of makers behind her with their amazing designs. Every item is displayed and arranged to please the eye. Whoever said 'the eye must travel' must have referred to a place like this. What did I buy? Gumball machine earrings and a pair of blue glass owl earrings. The owner wrapped them separately and marked them so I could tell them part. The owner is so friendly and fun and created a wonderful store. read more

This is the most adorable shop! My friend and I stopped in twice during our visit to Calistoga, and both times had a blast perusing the unique and whimsical clothing, accessories, and gifts. The proprietor is as flashy as her stock with smiles and passion when I talk to her about these dresses. "These are amazing!", I say, "Where do you get them?" "I get them from all over!", she says, "Many from London. I've dreamed of opening this shop for about 10 years and now it's here." These dresses come in all sizes - from big to small... as it was back in the early days, there were big and small women who wore cute clothes. I enjoyed looking around the store but didn't find anything for me. I will probably come back when I am looking for something fancy to wear. My four year old definitely liked looking around but they do not have anything in kids sizes. :( I did see a variety of bathing suits that l might come back for. Not many stores seem to have good bathing suits these days. The owner was super helpful and chatty. I was eating lunch in the Barlow and one of my friends mentioned this store, so we decided to stop by. I'm so glad we did! If you love retro/vintage style clothing, then this is the place for you. There were so many pretty things I wanted to buy. It's not a cheap store but everything I looked at was very nice quality. I'd say it's comparable in price to the online retro shops I've bought stuff from, but better quality. They even feature some custom clothing from a local designer! I ended up buying the cutest flamingo cardigan and when the lady in the shop(I think she's the owner) overheard it was for a gift, she wrapped it up for me in the cutest flamingo wrapping paper with a bow! Mad Mod is such a jewel! The owner, Andrea, has curated a collection of 1940s sophistication, 1950s glam, and 1960s quirky fun through clothing and accessories. Although all vintage inspired, all pieces are new. They are high quality fabrics and delightful prints! They are also those vintage cuts that are so flattering and somehow still hard to find in modern clothing. I have bought numerous pieces from here that I love to wear. I feel fabulous in them. Andrea is more than happy to help you with fitting, make suggestions on styling, or guide you to another piece or designer you might love. The collection is constantly evolving so it's good to check back regularly. There are also special events including themed hair and makeup nights, for example the last one was Holly Golightly. My 14 year old daughter and I went into the Mad Mod Shop today on our way out of town. We were warmly greeted by Julie as soon as we walked in. What a great store. Super fun clothing some of which is made by the owner (we overheard Julie telling another customer). My daughter loves vintage clothing and we found a great blouse and some cute tights. Wandered into Mad Mod Shop on our way to an overnight with girlfriends in Occidental. WOW! Where has this wonderful shop been all my life? I felt I would see Betty Draper (of Mad Men), Mary Richards (of the Dick Van Dyke Show) or Lucy and Ethel walk out of the fitting room at any moment! Beautiful clothes, jewelry, and accessories. But don't be put off by the vintage vibe if that is not your thing. I think everyone can find something here. And if you never have, give vintage a try! The cuts can be both flattering and sexy. I purchased a lovely short jacket with the most unique 'sleeves'. They actually seemed more like flaps, although the simpleness of that word does not do them justice. Andrea was delightful: explaining her ideas behind certain pieces, fabric choices... She gave me the great idea of dressing up the jacket with long black (leather) gloves for an evening out. But here's the best part of the story: I heard Andrea tell one of my friends something about getting a parasol with a purchase. I bought my jacket and a cool wired headband. We all left Mad Mod Shop. We were in a kitchen store nearby when Andrea came in with a basket of brightly colored parasols. She said she had forgotten to offer one to me when I made my purchase. So she tracked us down in the kitchen store to offer me my choice of parasols (which in the heat that day came in handy!) First, I did not even know I had a 'parasol with purchase'. But for Andrea to find me in the other store AND to bring a basket with her so I could choose a color was truly impressive. Talk about customer service! I will go back to Mad Mod Shop and will tell everyone I know about Andrea's designs and her incredible 'above and beyond' customer service. Thank you, Andrea! read more

I visited this lovely shop a year ago on a milestone birthday, and had a wonderfully memorable time shopping and chatting with Andrea. Everything in the shop was chosen and laid out with an eye for style, and I came home with some fabulous whimsical decor.
