Very very messy store. It's so old and dirty, tables are chipped and broken, fixtures are damaged, signs are messed up, broken or disorganized (Juniors "DENIM" sign is missing the 'D'.... "ENIM") There is never anyone on the 1st or 2nd floor so you walk around for ages wondering if anyone even works here. Also the music is terrible. The only good thing about Macy's is the prices and clearance selection, you have to look deep but there is usually some really great stuff. read more

Well I am not much for rating chain stores, today another exception. The store has easy parking which can be a big deal in Santa Barbara. The air conditioning works great, and that has been so welcomed here in this summer. The shop has so many styles to choose from and so many are on special 30, 40 50 70 percent off. But the list prices seem to be triple list price everywhere else? Who knows, The deals for me were in housewares where with the discounts there were some real nice deals. Place is terrible. I went in to the jewelry department ready to spend a few hundred $$ and NO ONE helped me or even acknowledged my presence for the entire 25 minutes I was wandering around the counters. There were 3 associates when I first walked up and then 2 left as I was looking at the cases and then the 3rd started helping other people who came after me. When are they going to just close this dump down? This store is EXACTLY why I no longer shop "locally." Macy's SUCKS. read more

I have been shopping at Macy's for over a decade now and never had a bad experience until i went to this Plaza. I had recently purchased a Martha Stewart Comforter set online and was not quiet sure if i wanted to keep it so i went to this store to see if they had anything else i liked. I was looking at the comforters, trying to see the quality which of course cannot be done without touching it when suddenly a sales clerk approaches me and tells me not to mess the comforters and to arrange it as it was before after i was done looking at it in a very rude tone. I was just shocked and did not know how to react to that. This is not the customer service i was expecting and will not be returning to this store ever again. read more

I came to Macy's just before closing one night, at about 9:20. Got in the elevator and suddenly, it stopping. I laughed a little because that only happened in movies. My sister and I looked out of the glass elevator at some of our family friends who took the elevator. We tried to tell them that we were stuck. They though we were joking for about 5 min. Then they went to get the manager. By this time, it was about 9:45, 15 min after closing and they started to turn the lights off. The manager watched us from downstairs and didn't know what to do. He got the phone book and tried to find the number to the elevator maintenance company. They didn't answer. He told me to push the call button in the elevator. I did and it said "Please stay calm, your call will be answering in the order in which it was received". They connected me to the maintenance company and they said they'd send someone from LA!!! All we could do was wait. We waited for an hour and a half and I pushed the button again. It connected me and I asked where they were. They said that they couldn't send someone because they couldn't get a hold of Macys to confirm (they were closed). At this point I was done, I told the manager, "you wanna call the fire department, or should I push the fire button in here?!?!". He called them. They showed up in 5 fire trucks!!! Five! They got here and got us out in 5 min. Wish we did that in the first place. When we got out, all the manager had to say was, "Thanks for shopping Macy's!" I can't believe it. He didn't even apologize or give me a gift card for inconvenience. I got in the elevator at 9:25 and out at 11:45. I want a gift card :). This was a horrible experience. read more

Everytime I come here, I am reminded of why I do not come here. I circle the counters (watch, jewelry, makeup) over and over and there is either no one there to help me or the person there doesn't even acknowledge my presence. Today I went to get a watch and the girl at the counter (I know she saw me) didn't even acknowledge my presence. I circled the counter for at least ten minutes. Another customer walks up to the counter (Caucasian, dressy) and the girl working the counter instantly turns around to ask if she needs help! I am standing there pissed the fuck off because I can't believe what's happening. So I'm like okay maybe she didn't see me I will wait my turn. After the Caucasian customer says she doesn't need help, the counter girl glances at me then turns around and WALKS AWAY WTF. I was so pissed I walked to the next counter and asked the guy working there 'is it something about me that I can never get any damn service in here? Is it because I'm Asian? Or is it because I don't dress like I can afford any shit in here?' Seeing that I am upset, he helps me but he doesn't realize he did the same exact shit to me the last time I was there. If I need to throw a fit to get some help, then this place has forever lost my business. read more

This store has great customer service. Unlike other Macy's locations, people who work here are nice to their customers and not rude or mean.

I did not expect the service to be this bad since most other Macy's locations I have visited have had stellar service. I went in last night to get a sports coat in the men's department and a new sales agent worked with me to help find the right fit. However, when we tried to put on the coat, it was attached to a security pillar that started screeching when we unhooked it from the slot. He started to panic (understandably, and I felt bad for him since it was his first day), and he called a manager right away. BUT the manager took about 30 minutes to arrive, and when she showed up she was texting and seemed not at all concerned about the fact that she kept me waiting for a half hour. Finally the beeping stopped, but what do you know, the coat didnt fit quite right. I try on one more after that and I settle for one that didn't quite fit right since I figured I could go back the next day and get it adjusted. I get home and the security tag that sprays ink is still attached to the coat! I go in the next day to get it removed and there is no sales representatives to be found. I ended up going to the lady's department to find someone who could find a men's department sales agent. Then when we finally found one, I heard that adjustments take 2 weeks--so she gives me a card to a local tailor that does not have an address on it. I ended up returning the coat and went downtown to the Men's Warehouse. I was in and out with a better looking sports coat in about 15 minutes---the service there was fantastic! AND it was buy one get one free day so I got two colors. If you're looking for men's ware--DONT GO HERE until they improve their management. Go to the one downtown or to Men's Warehouse. read more

HORRIBLE EXPIERENCE; let me explain, It was in the men's Suiting Department. First i was helped by Mathew i think his name was? He was great and provided excellent customer service to both me and my boyfriend. I then left and came back to pick up the suit i had originally found with Mathew. I came back and absolutely no one was on the floor to help me or approach me for 20minutes i waited at the desk and called the store. The manager walked down 10minutes later and talked to me from a distance. it was some chubby old big man with a mustache. He provided horrible customer service as well and brought an assistant manager to speak with me who spoke so softly you couldn't hear her. LITERALLY i couldn't hear her she talked so low. and she was skinny and couldn't even speak good english. WTF!?!? She gave me a discount for the horrible experience because i mentioned the place i worked, which is an upscale retailer. I had a horrible experience and DO NOT RECOMMEND anyone coming to MACYS LA CUMBRE, especially the men's suiting department. read more

Went there this morning to do some Black Friday shopping. What a mistake! Not one of there price scanners worked that I could find. They would say find a cashier to help you. No cashiers in sight! Worst Macy's on the planet! The store is a mess. The jeans are all thrown together on a table in a mix of short, regular & tall sizes. Very poor selection of petite size jeans. I am writing about the Macy's on upper State Street. I doubt very much if I will ever enter that store again. One good thing is the great parking. Why not, the store is ridiculous and lacking in common courtesy. I took my 91 year old Father in to buy a pair of shoes yesterday and spent about 20 minutes looking for a sales associate. There was one woman in the whole men's department. Her attitude really stunk and she didn't know what she was doing. I waited another 20 minutes to ask her to get us another size. There were other people there with the same problem and asking if there was another sales person. The only time she was decent with a smile on her face was at the cash register. I can't wholly blame her. Management has really missed the mark in training their employees. There is a big difference between a sales person and a cashier. I am sure that she feels like she is in over her head and her comfort zone was being a pleasant cashier which is what she was. I then proceeded to the cosmetics counter (Clinique) to purchase make up that I was out of and there was not one salesperson in sight there or at any other of the counters. I walked over another department and inquired about a salesperson and the answer I got was "Really? There should be someone there" I said there wasn't and they looked around and saw that was the case and responded with "well that is odd" I asked if they would call someone. Which they did and after 10 minutes I left and will not be back. read more

Ok I never write reviews but I had to on this one! I'm gonna write about the macys on upper state by hope street. Anyway I needed a place that was cheap to do my make up for a bridal party. I've heard about the Clinique skin care line was a cheap and a good product. I've always hated this macys cuz of the lack in service and never finding anything nice. It's messy and dirty. But living in goleta I didn't want to drive down town so I drove to this one in goleta. BIG mistake! I walk up to the counter to find the Clinique ladies making fun of a customer that they previously helped! I put that aside to get what I needed and leave. So I'm getting helped by joey. Im a little nervous because she was gonna do my make up and I notice her face is packed with make up. I figured she puts it on herself that way. I'm asking questions that she couldn't even answer about these products! Very frustrating. She asks her partner the questions I'm asking. When she was done I look at myself and sure enough She packed the make up on! My biggest second mistake! I had a cake face. I should have known from looking at her face and on top of that she didn't seem to know how to put the make up on. I wanted to cry I was so frustrated! Never again! I wiped my face and left. I didn't pay for that joke. Be warned never let them put make up on ur face!!!! read more

It's not bad...not too many employees to help you..but that's typical I guess. I felt bad for the cashier there because the older lady in front of me was chewing her out, being really abusive. She was trying to return an item and the cashier had called her supervisor, who said it wasn't possible. Then the lady (customer) was threatening to have the cashier fired, etc. It was pretty awful. My daughter worked at the Macy's in san diego and finally quit because of customers like that. She was like, "Mom, I have a degree from UCLA and these ladies come in and just treat me like a piece of s***"" She's only 22--as was this cashier today. What's wrong with people, to make such a fuss and be so evil over a sweater that doesn't fit them or lacks a button? My other daughter, who's eight years old, said, "wow, I really understand why my sister quit this job!" after she witnessed that. Then she threw a penny in the La Cumbre fountain wishing well, for all the workers who have to endure meanies like that lady. So... Macy's...stand up for your employees...they deserve it! read more
