I attempted to return an article of clothing -- nine month girl pajamas. I had the receipt and the barcode on the the pajamas. I am a busy mom of two kids and I thought I'd do this "quick" return errand. It ended up being the most humuliating experience due to the "manage" Chris Penter and the sales associate. They were treating me like I was a criminal because I had paid $13.44 for the article, and they said that the code indicated that the item did not match the receipt and they would only give me $7.00. I had remembered that I purchased it in the men's department while we bought my husband a business suit, and the scanner was not accepting the article, so they scanned an identical item. The manager was not open to listening to this, just getting angry and stating that the tag did not match up with the receipt. During this experience, a line was forming and the sales associate was talking about me to the waiting costumers, saying, "I can't help you yet. This lady did not bring her receipt." I have never felt so humuliated and angry. I am sending letters to higher management and I recommend that you do the same if you've expernienced this kind of humuliation in an economical time when stores' reputations are key. read more

The Macy's is just dirty and has some pretty rude staff here. I'm giving it 2 stars for the occasional cute clothes I find there. Now back to the staff, they just seem lazy and they always look like they don't want to talk to any customers. I was there a few days ago and it was pretty late, around 10 pm, and I was just checking out the clothes I had gotten and this lady just kept chatting with her cashier partner or whatever they both kept laughing and talking and I asked her the availability of another size of a dress I wanted but she just said hold on and kept joking with her friend, then when her friend gets a customer, she finally turn to THE ACTUAL CUSTOMER, ME! This store is a hot mess. A sales "rack" was just a platform with clothes dumped on it. And there were several of them. The story is filthy, dark, and disgusting. Since they moved INC upstairs, it, too, looks like a dump. Nothing special. Expensive clothes all over the floor. Macy's used to be high end. I would compare the vibe to Ross or Kmart, now. LISA at the Clinique counter is an amazing counter manager! She has helped me multiple times find the right products I have needed for my make up and skin care needs. Lisa not only has in-depth knowledge about all of her Clinique products but is talented at running her counter. Shoe department was a mess with no one at the register for over 20 minutes. I came in Knowing exactly what I needed and it took over 30 minutes to be rung up! Your men's perfume personnel is not helpful. You should put a female personnel in that counter 'coz a women would have a better sense in perfume in men "attractionwise ". Just bought a couple of sweatshirts and had very good customer service from Marcia in the evening of 10/23/12. I have had negative experiences before with slow, basically unhappy Macy clerks. I'm not sure what it is exactly about Hillsdale Mall's Macy's, that I don't like in comparison to Nordstrom's. They just never seem to have whatever it is I'm looking for at their store. I give it the basic three stars because it is Macys and they offer anything else you can find at any other Macys, which is a good selection of clothes and household items. Beyond that service sucks here. I had to hunt down someone to ring me up numerous times and no one seems to be able to crack a smile there, other than the fragrance vendors. I ordered a necklace from macys.com for a Christmas gift. It arrived quickly, but the super delicate chain was horribly tangled and it took me literally an hour to undo. It came with a card with my personalized message on it, but it was unusable. The message was printed on a piece of paper then cut and paste onto a card. The only problem is that the message looked like it was cut out by a 1st grader - crooked, and off center. Whoever cut it out even included part of a someone else's message along with mine! WTF! Then to top it all off the gift box that it came with was missing the little insert that you would hang a necklace from. So now to Macy's at Hillsdale Mall... I went to their jewelry department to get another gift box, nothing more. After waiting a solid 20 minutes to be helped, an extremely rude, big-haired Asian lady asked me "what do you need?" I started by telling her that I ordered from macys.com, but before I could tell her my problem she turned away and over her shoulder told me "you need to resolve that with the online store." I grabbed her attention again, and explained that I just needed another gift box, or at least the little missing insert. Again, she insisted that since I didn't buy it in the store, there was nothing they could do and I had to go to the website. One more time I pleaded since Christmas was less than a week away, but without even checking, she told me they didn't have anymore gift boxes anyway. Am I really supposed to believe that there wasn't one extra gift box in the entire store??? Way to insult my intelligence sister! At this point I was pretty fed up and pissed off so I just walked away. The only reason I'm giving Macy's 2 stars instead of 1 is because I made a formal complaint on their website, and they sent me a $25 gift card. At least they tried to make up for a mistake, but they certainly shouldn't count on my being a repeat customer. read more

Their customer service is crap...I've worked in retail before, so I know how it can be but come on, this is too much. I don't usually make returns, but when I do it's pretty rare. The fact that their sales associates are rude, stubborn, and disrespectful makes me not even want to walk by them in the mall and I don't know what makes them cop an attitude with their customers when they are just asking to make an exchange and not screaming and being an overall pain in the ass like I've seen some people treat sales associates. It infuriates me when a sales person looks me over like a piece of trash and refuses to help me with a return. Next time I'm forced to go here with family or friends and have another horrible experience, I'm going to get the corporate number and talk with them. Extremely messy and disorganized. Came in to look for some dress shirts and slacks for my husband and after an hour left empty handed. We managed to find 3 shirts in the mess and array that is their men's section. We got in line and it took a lifetime so we decided to look for a different register. Found one near the fitting room, in the men's suits section and I stood there as a female employee (older blonde woman) was pretending not to see me. I went up to her after about 10 mins of just standing there and asked her if this register was closed, she shrugged her shoulders and nervously walked away. I became so frustrated that I left everything on the counter and left. They are not short on staff because i run into plenty of employees on the floor, just none on the register. Literally only one register was occupied by an employee. This is a constant occurrence at this particular Macy's. Its unfortunate because they do have some great deals from time to time. Ive learned my lesson. I'll stick to Nordstrom from now on. Update 6/29/17: I had a great experience in the lingerie department. I was unsure about sizing with certain bras and just grabbed what looked like would fit, as I was ready to checkout the woman at the register (Caucasian woman with very short hair) recommended that I try a different size to just to make sure I was purchasing the right size. She gave me some pointers and tips and guess what? She was spot on! I appreciate her taking the time to make sure I was buying the right item. She was extremely nice, helpful and did not rush me one bit. It was pretty busy that day and I witnessed her doing the same with other women. Amazing customer service! Macy's I just wanted to bring to everyone attention about the shoe department down stair. There was a employee who my husband and I felt for since she was the only one there but apparently she was a very rude person. As a sale person and a customer you don't go around and disrespecting clients, I was ready to buy two pair of shoes and all we wanted was the rite shoes and paid. She totally spend 1hr with a customer that on the end try to tell me that I was rude went the hole time we were patient and nice , she when on apologizing two other client and give them discounts wild i was standing there waiting for a manager that never came. After the light when out I had to walk to the perfume department and ask for a manager an thank goodness one show up, i am sad and disappointed that Macy treated me this way. After talking to Linda one of the managers there she help me and toke care of the shoes. thanks for that but I wish you guys could hire people who take care of the client as a sales person customer are everything to the business, because of them companies always succeed. The only reason I am giving Macy's a two star is because the gentlemen helping me at the footwear section was very kind. Everyone else had horrible customer service. I asked for assistance in the mens sport section and the sales associate made me wait for 25 minutes. What with the credit crisis being what it is, I can see how Macy's tries to get as many sucks to sign up in hopes of those defaulters paying huge interest rates on balances. For wise Xmas shoppers, get the card anyway, charge up all your purchases and take advantage of the discounts, then be sure to CANCEL the card within a month. it's not going to hurt them terribly, but if enough critical mass, then they'll see customer service is key. I don't know how this store sells anything. Early this week I went in to buy some dress slacks. The men's wear department was well stocked. After looking around for sometime I needed some help in finding the exact items that I wanted. It appears that there was one salesman in the entire department. I was in no hurry and waited about forty minutes until he became free. It turned out that he, Mr Wong, was very knowledgable and new his stock very well. I was able to complete my transaction for three pairs of slacks and leave. While waiting I observed several other customers leave out of frustration. I would bet that many sales are lost due to the lack of staffing in the Hillsdale Macy's men's wear department. During the one hour plus that I was there I saw NO other employees on the floor. read more

Sales lady/Product demonstrator of hair flat iron was extremely rude!!! Not on my plan for that day to buy any of the hair flat iron they're selling but she insisted to try it on my hair and I was cool with that since my appointment is not until 6pm which is in 4hrs. So, I started asking questions like which is better, the titanium or ceramic? She said: oh, this one that I am using on your hair...I'm like, what's is it? (Stupid answer) and she started forcing me to buy the hair flat iron and I said no maybe next week because I have other plans today and she left me and go chat with other sales lady and keep saying ok bye, bye, bye...see you next time bye, bye.. what a rude and super ugly in and out personality!. I am absolutely disgusted with Macys customer service. I had purchased a 3000.00 mattress in July and had an allergic reaction with swollen lips and eyes and Macys allowed us to return the mattress initially. We purchased another mattress due to the allergy and the same symptoms appeared with shortness of breath. The sales associates were very nice and I explained that I am allergic to the gel foam. Unfortunately they do not sell mattresses without gelfoam and because I can no longer purchase a mattress from Macy's, they are demanding a 350.00 fee for the mattress. We have furnished all of our furniture from Macy's and have spent a lot of money in their store. As I was speaking with the customer sales associate today she started laughing when I explained the situation. I WILL NEVER spend a dime at this store again and I advise not buying mattress from this store. read more

Why buy at Macy's? If its for customer service, that has become a thing of the past. Its not that they don't care. They just don't care about their customers. this is a problem from the management down. floor level employees do not adopt an attitude that is dissimilar from that of management. Protest by closing your account. even if you have a balance, close it. that is the best way to send a message. you will get nowhere on the phone or in person. the staff is not able to come up with a manager, even after trying for hours. this story repeats itself all too often. considering that anchor stores like macy's pay absolutely no rent, and charge nearly full retail most of the time, it is incredible that even with chinese made products there is not enough revenue to attend to the customers need. shop on line instead. find the product you want. order it and save the tax when you buy from a company without a california address. save on the cost by shopping price. and save on shipping by simply asking them to waive shipping. macy's will soon go the way of other companies that forego customer service and improperly staff with untrained persons distributed sparsely throughout the store. when we simply say no, businesses get the idea. shopping there in spite of the lack of service only tells them that as long as you feel you are getting a reasonably good price, you will put up with anything. don't expect what you don't stand up for. I am giving my employees a bonus for closing any account that is with a retailer directly in favor of a rebate card. they will save money. and can order on line and save more. its kinda like giving them a raise. and i will no longer have to hear stories about their miserable experiences at every single macy's store they ever go into. good shopping on line. quit supporting bad business practices. m. read more

I purchased a ring from macys on 05/28/09. I needed it sized as well, so i had them do that for me. 2 weeks after I brought it for sizing I received a call from macys informing me that the ring would be a special order and would take up to 4 weeks. It has not been almost 2 months since I purchased the ring and I am still unable to get any answers from macys. Everytime I call I get a run a round about what is going on and when I will be receiving my ring back. I am told to just hang on until they call me that the ring is back in the store for pick up. This has been the worst shopping experience for me ever and I will not be making any more fine jewelry purchases at this macys again. The staff is also very rude and not cooperative. Let me state that I like Macy's. I shop at several locations...but not at the Hillsdale location if possible. The service is terrible, the condition of the store is poor. The last time I was there, two associates were laying on the couches outside the fitting room talking. I asked to speak to a manager, but the manager said they were too busy. 7/4/16 I contacted a sales person by the name of Zia in the underwear Dept and she really cared about helping me. She went the extra mile to make sure I was getting the right size and style. Also, she was the only one in the department at the time and had to check to see if they had the item in the back room then she had to call me back. Went to Macys Hillsdale to check on an exchange of a ring that my spouse purchased for me on line from Macys. The ring was to big for my finger. We thought we could exchange the ring at Macys with no problem. What we encountered there on a Thursday afternoon was nothing, (Literally) No service, no employees, unattended jewelry counters and when we finally found a saleswoman she complained about no management and not enough staff. I explained the situation and she almost threw a keychain full of ring sizes at me and ran off to attend to another customer. When she returned, she basically told me that she did not have the ring my wife bought me in stock and it would cost us to upgrade, After this disaster, we took off and just shook our heads thinking, please hire more workers at least for the holidays. read more

After walking around with my family and being harassed and stalked by an associate who WASN'T even on the clock I decided to just drop all my items and save my time. After finally feeling threatened enough by an associate (an older Asian woman who seems to work in the men's department) I asked if she was ok. She replied that she was seeing what I was doing in the polo department. Wtf kinda shopping experience is THAT?!!!! If you are not Caucasian or Asian apparently, avoid shopping near this employee!!!!! Save your time and money, no one should be judged or discriminated the way I was. And I WAS NOT just walking around with nothing, I had a shopping bag full of shoes from foot locker but she obviously must have thought that was stolen. I hope to hear from the Macy's management department soon because this experience was BEYOND both disrespectful AND discriminative!!!
