I use to work here so now I can come out and say how this place downright sucks. Never have I been with a company more absent-minded and careless about their employees as Macy's. Do you know why customer service is horrible? It's because management cares little about the well-being of the front line employees. Your salespeople, your stock people, your recovery team. There's no training in things, they make workers sit in front of a computer looking at videos to "train" them but never offer anything of substance. All just expendable individuals making pennies while the money gets moved up into the hands of all these executives that don't know what they want to do with Macy's. A once proud company now limping along like a bargain bin dollar store. When I was there Macy's had a 6 month return policy. 6 months is already a far longer time to return something than it should be. Knowing that, homeless people would dumpster dive to find old receipts and bring in worn, stained clothing to try and get gift cards/money back from it and what do we do? We usually return it. Why? Because they managers don't want to deal with problems like that. They'd rather have their employees look bad doing something the right way then help their employees. You'd spend a good 15 minutes telling a customer that something can't be returned because of a legit reason only for a manager to step in and tell the customer it's okay and that they'll get a refund. That is utterly BS. They can't even follow their own policies. We have a Union that demands that Macy's employees pay the Union fees but when employee contracts come up they side with Macy's and agree to terms that no one wants. There's no stance with them. They're not the grocery store Union so they're not important enough for protecting but if you don't pay the Union, well, expect to get fired. The last 10 years they probably hiked up the Union fees 10, 15 dollars. Unbelievable. Now they're closing the Men's Store. Sales are abysmal, they can't afford keeping two separate buildings operational. They'll make more money selling off their buildings around the country than selling actual products. As of now, they've cut 150 retail jobs. If you're a shopper at Macy's you better go there before your favorite salesperson gets laid off because sooner or later that place will just be a shell of its former self. I've had friends there who've worked hard making that place look good to customers only to see their jobs taken from them because some executive is adding another 0 to his salary. Get with the times, Macy's. You could have been paving way and spearheading new ways to be retail like H&M or Uniqlo but you're thinking the old ways. Remove some executives, not all of them are needed (there was one time a bunch of executives did a floor run of the building and there were literally 30 of them bunched up together looking at the sales floor WTF). I can't give this place 0 stars so the 1 star at least goes to those employees that do work hard. The ones that keep this company running, not your executives, not your managers but the salespeople, stock and recovery people. They make your store (well, some of them, there are also a lot of crappy asshole workers there too but we just try to avoid those individuals). As much as I don't want to see anymore of them lose their jobs I can't support a future where Macy's is still around. I honestly don't care if this is a legit review or not, but people need to know what kind of business Macy's is running. Everything is outdated, working conditions are horrid and it's just an all around mess. The time's running out for Macy's. I'm sure they're hoping Amazon will slide right in and swoop them up but I really hope they don't. Edit: By the way, commission is no longer a thing at Macy's Union Square, it's been eliminated. So if a worker doesn't want to take your return they just don't want to be hassled by you and not because it's taking from their commission. Just know that. And since there's no commission I'm sure service will also decline. read more

I grew up on the San Francisco store, which is pretty much the flagship of northern California. Anyone can get spoiled shopping at that store, since it pretty much has everything and encompasses the area of a square block!!! Comparing San Francisco to Santa Rosa is pretty much comparing apples to oranges, so I won't attempt to do that here. I just think that with all of the comparisons I've seen in these reviews, it's not fair to expect a small store to give you everything that a big store can. That expectation just has no basis in reality! What I will say instead is that if you are shopping in Sonoma County and don't want to make the looonngg drive to a bigger town, this Macy's is THE place to go! The store carries most everything you need, and they have a great selection in a large array of different departments. I frequently shop in the big women's section [Macy Woman], and they have a nice selection of different items, although the tops do run a bit small, and the jeans stop at Size 24. If you want something with a bit more edge (as I frequently do) or if you need a Size 26, I would suggest checking out Torrid - also at the Plaza. The website http://Torrid.com is also great, edgier and more gothic. I also shop the home store at Macy's. They have a good range of colors in the towels (although I would love to see more black towels), and they have a pretty good selection of pillows. I recently went shopping for my mom and my husband and checked out the Petite Women's section and the Men's Department. The Petite Women's section is across from Macy Woman and they have a lot of nicer items there that you don't usually see in Petites, like Calvin Klein T-Shirts (Mom loved it). What I don't like are the current lengths in the jeans. I saw lengths anywhere from 26" to 30", which is kind of ridiculous. I am 5'8" and have a 31" inseam, see what I'm saying? My mom is about 5-foot-nothing, with a 22" inseam, so my only hope is to buy her the capris after summer! I guess they are thinking that the petite women are wearing the jeans with heels in the style of the moment. They are forgetting that some petite women have no interest in wearing heels, especially the older ones, so it would be nice to see some pants and jeans that are shorter. The employees in these two womens sections are on the ball, however. When I asked for short jeans, the sales girl said, "The shortest I have are 26" or 27". Damned if she wasn't right, too! I went over there with my tape measure and that was right on the money. The men's section had a good variety of both sizes and styles. They had both older and younger style garments and the sizes were right up into the plus sizes. Many of the shirts were available up to a 2X. The sales people were really busy because of the holiday season, but I waited in line and they walked around with me on two different occasions, helping me to find the items and the sizes I needed. This individual service that you get at Macy's is important to me because my time is very limited. I also found some great wallets on sale in this section, and my husband fell in love with one of them, which is amazing, since he is sooo picky! I also like the regular and fine jewelry sections as well as the cosmetics counters. They are able to give you individual attention there as well. Across the board, the employees try hard, the selections are great for a smaller store, and the service is excellent. The Macy's here far outshines all of the other department stores in this area. As far as cost goes, yes the prices are higher, but you can offset that by getting a Macy's Credit Card and following the sales. They send all of the Macy's Credit Card holders regular coupons by mail and a lot of them can be combined with the sales prices to get you some great prices on quality goods. read more

Someone should teach a sales class on how to sell to redheads. I understand the need for commission and I fully support your right to earn a living, but you'd do well to pay attention to body language. I had money to spend and decided to invest in a good bag. I don't live under a rock. I know what good purses cost. Whether I think they're worth it is another story. I was ambling through a section of bags I was interested in, looking through their insides for structure, pockets, etc. I was approached by three different saleswomen within the first 5 minutes. I don't mind that first approach, but they should work on coordinating their efforts a little better. Once I'd narrowed it down to two bags, I put one on each shoulder and stood in front of a mirror. "Are you worried the orange Makowsky will clash with your hair?" an over-tanned woman pops up next to my reflection. Um, no. Do people honestly worry about that? Do they not have real things to worry about? I'm holding an orange purse. It's safe to assume I LIKE ORANGE. But I don't say these things. I think it's because I have manners. Instead, I say, "No, just trying to decide what I need more - a tote that can bridge the gap between the work week and weekends, or a fun bag (funbag!) for running around on the weekends." "Oh well they're both great bags of course but the Coach bag has that nice big logo you can show off." Sigh. Yeah. See, I liked the coach bag because the logo looked like crop circles. This is what I'm thinking when she shoves this ridiculous multi-colored monstrosity in my face and says, "FUN! Isn't it FUN!? It's so different from Coach's usual boring leather." At this point I'm physically recoiling from her. I've tucked my chin into my neck, backed up a few paces, and put my palm out in a "whoa, Nellie" gesture. She TAKES MY HAND and gushes about how excited she is about the new line from coach, pulling me to the counter where she lugs out a big purse book and shows me all the options she's be happy to order if I don't see what I like in the store. Now that part is nice, but please don't touch me. I was rescued by a rich customer who likes all that ridiculous attention, and I snuck out of the store. I ordered the "crop circle" purse online, where I wouldn't have to deal with salespeople. Sales peeps, for future reference: I want you to earn your dough. As long as you're nice to me initially, it'll happen. You could say "Hi, I'm Crazy. Let me know if you need anything" and 20 minutes later when I approach the counter, I'll say, "Crazy was helping me" even if all you did was check on me once. If you stalk me, I will leave. Also, I think most of the clothes here are made for older women who've signed a "beige only" contract with the devil. read more

I went to sf Mall with my Bride's maids in search of their shoe for the day of. We walked all of the mall before finally stopping to check the shoe section in Macy's. I was a little skeptical because over the years I haven't been a big fan of Macy's (quality and service just seems not so great compared to Nordies). But was I proved wrong in this shoe location. First off, I think it was a end of winter sale since a lot of shoes were discounted. The shoe section itself was messy, disorganized and overwhelming. We were going to call it a day until, on our way out... one of my bride's maids spotted a black peep toe pump with silver swirl patterned detail. Regular price it was $100, but then it was marked down to $65. So we were all for it since my wedding colors are amethyst, silver and black. Perfect! When we asked a sale associate she was very helpful. There was about 5 of us and she grabbed all our shoe sizes, asked everyone for help and made sure everyone got the right one. She even grabbed multiple shoe sizes for my girls who were in between sizes to make sure they purchased the right size. At the end of our shoe shopping, we were ready to purchase but two of my bride's maids didn't have their shoe size available so she ordered them via internet and both shoes came in within the week at their homes. When I spoke to the associate, I mentioned I was getting married that's why everyone was buying the same shoe, she then offered her personal employee discount and everyone got their shoe at $50, score! Unfortunately she did not provide her name, but she was excellent and definitely made something that could be really stressful to be a fun and girly shopping day. I would recommend all Sacramento brides to check out Macy's in sf for their bride's maids shoes. read more

Macy's Union Square is a great shopping destination, especially if you time your visit right. Weekdays are a breeze with minimal crowds, but weekends and rush hour can be frustrating--just driving into the area can be a headache. If you're only coming for Macy's, the Serramonte location is a more convenient option. However, if you have multiple stops planned around Union Square and want to shop and dine in the area, this Macy's is a solid choice. The store is massive, spanning multiple floors with escalators and elevators for easy access. It's well-lit, clean, and organized, making it easy to browse. You'll find the usual selection across all departments, but this location also carries some higher-end options that aren't as common at other Macy's stores. A great perk is the parking deal--if you make a purchase or pick up an online order, you can get $10 off your Union Square Garage parking, which is a nice way to save a little in this busy shopping district. Customer service is reliable, with plenty of associates available to help, and security does a good job keeping the environment comfortable. The store also has a Starbucks on the 4th floor and a Boudin on the lower level, which adds extra convenience. The only downside is that prices here tend to be a bit higher compared to other locations outside the city, but that's expected given the prime location. It's not just you. In light of Trump's politics and policies as President I can no longer give my business to any company that supports his un-American and unlawful office in any way. Additionally, I will aggressively encourage my friends and family to do the same. I want to respect your company, but by carrying Trump products and including his family businesses you are inadvertently supporting his discriminatory, bigoted policies. Policies which are now directly affecting my friends, co-workers, neighbors and fellow citizens. Should you reconsider your relationship with the Trump family, and have the courage to take an ethical stand against this, I'd be so excited to support your business again, both monetarily and socially. Situated in Union Square Park, adjacent to LV and across from Union Square garage parking, this Macy's stands out. During the holidays, it's adorned beautifully with Christmas trees scattered throughout. Spanning five floors, this Macy's offers a considerable shopping space. The store is consistently well-organized and abundantly stocked. The dedicated staff exudes enthusiasm and is always ready to assist. At the rooftop, you'll find The Cheesecake Factory, offering breathtaking views of Union Square (making the wait, even on a cold night, worthwhile for an outdoor seat with heaters!). All in all, this location is a gem, and I highly recommend it. A must-visit if you haven't experienced it yet! read more

I was at the Michael Kor's handbags area when one of the sales associate (has European accent, maybe Russian ??) approached me if she can help me find a handbag. I went to the side that said Signature MK handbags I was going to check it out but the sales associate immediately said to me " oh no those are $900 up, you want those" I was shocked but didn't say anything! I was ready to buy but I got upset and disappointed that I decided not to buy anything and left the store! I love Macy's and shopped there many times. All the ladys of the department help there own customers (asians or russians ) the rest they dont help stept in this store several times this week and happend more times . Estee lauder , scarfs department , shoes , dresses , even at welcome asian lady gave out flyers of clinique promtion not to everybody random but to the horrible asian tourist (I am a tourist ). it is a shame that I bought over the weekend by request for others in this store for more then 200 dollars and got served like this. read more

Shopped at Macy's the other day for some make up. I wanted to update my look so decided to seek help from the experts. I was at the Lancome counter. First of all they were very busy but the gal behind the counter acknowledge me and said she would be with me shortly. SO it wasn't that shortly. As a matter of fact I waited over 20 minutes to be waited on. By that time I really did not want to be there. You get to the pint and ask if it is worth it. I did ask the gal to show me some new lip sticks and eye shadows. She seemed a little distracted but pleasant. She spent about 20 minutes with me. She did know her product line but again seemed a little distracted. I ended up buying a mascara and lipstick. I passed on the shadows. It was an okay experience but nothing to write home about. read more

Do you know Gordon Pugh? If not, now you do. He's the manager....inspiration behind the team at the entire jewelry department. I encountered him this past weekend on a problem-solving mission. He gave great eye contact, really heard my needs, and delivered expediently. His team has their Manager's influence. They present with a pride in their service. Have any one of you tried to get someone to help in a jewelry department; or other departments for that matter? These characteristics that Gordon delivers so naturally are often foreign in other stores. Also, Gordon's knowledge of product is on-the-mark. Even thought there are 7 floors (or more?) of the merchandise, it is very ordinary. Just a huge amount of stuff that is not particularly interesting to me. The cosmetics section is humongous, and choices are pretty good, but it's all kind of watered down, kind of like the perfumes they are selling. Not really perfumes, just eau dtoilettes and eau dperfumes. Nothing stronger, for most fragrances. The clothing varies from Ann Taylor like to teen spirit. If you are a teenager, you are OK, here. But anyone older, I am not so sure. Generally, I tend not to stop over here when I am downtown, only when I am with my teenage niece and we are trying to get to Cheesecake factory. read more

I went to Macy's Union Square last weekend decided to buy a Michael Kors Watch to myself but I wasn't sure about the difference between 2 different styles. However Jeff from Designer watches made my day. He was able to find the perfect watch for me and for a great price ($295... It was a bargain). I am glad that "Friends and Family" was on, so I could have an additional discount, however I am also glad that I had a great costumer service. I went to the men's suit department area to look for a black collar shirt to wear along with my suit last week, the week of my beloved sister's funeral. Two employees by the name of Jessie and Ricky helped me look for the right size shirt. They also both helped me fix my tie and handkerchief. This is true genuine customer service that I appreciate a lot. It means a lot to me because everything was last minute but they took the time to help and I will never forget that. These two should be promoted to a higher position. Ask for these two if you go to the men's department 6th floor. For suits(ask for Jessie) and for men's dress shirts(ask for Ricky). read more
