Wow Macy's has really gone down hill. This location is very dated... Selection is terrible. I was there today and felt like I was at the swap meet. The staff was in there own world and didn't say hello, ask if I needed help or even rang me up! I had someone tell me and my husband that they were clocked out and couldn't ring us, then why the hell are you on the sales floor?? THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! It all started in March when we weren't in quarantine, I bought skincare set from Macy's and the next day there was a sale going on, so I wanted to get a price match. I sent them an email about this and they never responded, the next thing I knew we went into quarantine and stores were closed. Then when the stores opened back up I went to Macy's and just asked if it's possible to still do the price match, and the worker said that "you can't since there's not a sale going on for that product but you can once there's a sale going on again and you don't need your receipt". So now the sale started, I went back to try to price adjustment, but this time the worker (a different one) said that they don't accept price adjustment since you don't have your receipt. Then I told them that they have all the past purchases in their system but the worker just won't accept that. So then I suggest to talk to the manager but the worker kept on saying that that's how they were taught and the manager is going to say the same thing. But I was thinking if they were taught like this then why did the first worker say that I don't need a receipt so I am NEVER EVER shopping there EVER again, very poor attitude for a customer service! Macy's is the number one store I don't want to set my foot into. Their clothing are very low in quality. I bought 3 shirts and 2 jeans the other day, when I went home, wash it and the shirts is mess up. It was cotton, and it look like I have scrub the floor with the shirt for a while. It look like a rag. Another special customer service that Macy's provide me is when I return the stuff that I don't like. The sale associate lady gave me an attitude. First, I enter the door and I went to the near service desk ask the guy to help me return the item. He said follow me, then he head over the the other side of the department and told the lady, this is your department, you can help her return these. Then he left. They make other customer around that department feels uncomfortable. I notice all other customer left the area one by one. One time I was at the handbag section. I want to purchase the D& B handbag in the glass case. I stand there for 30 minutes, and finally she came by look at me and said "what do you need?" in a grumpy and frustrated way. In my mind I thought "did Macy's paid you to do this?" Overall, Macy's at any location in San Diego is number 1 rating bad customer service. read more

I do not like this Macy's location. It is very unorganized and a cluster to shop in. I am closer to UTC than Fashion Valley, but I will drive to Fashion Valley just to go to the Macy's there. The selection is much better, and the store is more clean and organized. read more

I wanted to buy athletic shoes and went to the "Finish Line" which is in the UTC Macy's store. The seating in the "Finish Line" ​area is​ hard benches. That is what alerted me to ask why the differences? I asked a Macy's shoe person (where the comfortable seats are) and she told me about Macy's renting their floor space to the "Finish Line" company. So returns can ONLY be returned to a "Finish Line" counter. I did make a purchase​ from "Finish Line" and found the same shoes $20 cheaper elsewhere so I called the Macy's phone number on my receipt and they told me they could not price match because that other store was not on their list to price match. I did return the shoes to Fashion Valley MACY'S - after 3 counter attempts to find the correct counter that was for Finish Line. Overall, I will now know to ask in department stores whether or not what I might purchase will be from a company that has a rental space in their store. I will most likely avoid that rental company. read more

I love this store and go there very often for its product offerings.........the service however, is hit or miss.....it is located right on my path from a workout at 24 hr fitness to home so I end up taking a peek and then get royally sucked in.......the perfumes,the clothes......the service is decent......sometimes the cashiers are amazing like the young girl who applied a coupon and saved me money on her own(didn't catch her name unfortunately)....but sometimes they can be a little slackey(eg.today I was overcharged for a CK sports bra in grey and I remembered it cost less and even showed her the price on on another similar item in blue and she just said that the grey ones are more popular and cost more without even batting an eyelid......so I went right back to the stand again and picked up another identical grey one with the lesser price and only then she corrected the price($5 less)....was disappointed in her service and she didn't apply any coupon either saying coupons don't work for active wear then how is it that just 2 days ago the previous awesome cashier had applied a coupon for me on her own saving me 15% on activewear?Also,the cashier was unable to use my plenti card reward points though she could see them on her system.I think macys needs to streamline the macys card connection with plenty points with phone number so the customer doesn't need to carry a plenti card in addition to a macys card. When I suggested this to her, the cashier replied that she thought "the plenti card system as is was perfectly OK". Go figure!! read more

Macy at UTC should get 1 star. This location is a bomb. We opened a new Macy member card to get 20% off. We were so happy and purchased a large amount of money for perfumes and make-up stuffs as soon as our new card was accepted. Not wanting to be involved to the bill every month, we paid all of the debt by cash and the seller guy said that we wouldnt worry anymore about the bill. He also explained quickly about Macy policy by giving us a paper. We thought we were lucky today because of opening new card easily and buying some products with cheaper prices. However, few weeks later i got a bill which showed that i have to pay 58,30$ for my purchase. We were so angry and came over Macy store again to solve this problem. The lady over there told that this bill is correct and the seller guy made a mistake about Cash payment. We also were informed that 20% off only for 500$ purchase. It will stop immediately if you buy more than this amount. Oh my god! I know they are nice and polite but they should pay attention to their job. I went to the Macy's store at UTC a few days ago to purchase a couple of Christmas gifts for friends without any idea of what to get... I ran into Ali Ahadian who worked there and he literally saved me a couple of hours and a great deal of work... He did an amazing job to introduce me the available options in the store and many useful recommendations on what to buy. He made sure that I benefit from all the discount in the store on my purchases... He also helped me a lot to make some of the orders on-line as they were supposed to be shipped to another state. First off this location is messy except for the mens wear.The problem I have is with the shoe department. I wanted to buy a pair of $90.00 BCBG shoes. They were a real beauty. I waited there with a shoe in my hand for approximately 15 minutes. I noticed 4 employees, one female and 3 male. Only one of them, the lady was ringing someone up. The others were doing God knows what... they all made eye contact with me and could see that I had a shoe in my hand but briskly turned the other way... real customer service would have kindly and professionally said "Do you need help with a size or do you have a question? Or I will be with you momentarily". That response would suffice and I would have waited but instead I was completely ignored. I shook my head and left the shoe there. If you want better customer service go to Nordstrom...they know how to treat their customers. read more

The line take forever!!! They only have 3 cash out stand. Every lines take forever to cash anyone out. I know they focus is on customer service but chatting with every single customer held up the line like 5 minutes per customer. They are very nice but it get so annoying that the line took forever. Went to Macy's to buy some serum and cream around 7pm. I needed something from Shiseido. There was no one so a staff asked a lady working at Lancôme to come assist me. She was not friendly and when I asked her a question, she said "I don't know. I worked at Lancôme. All products are here". She spoke in an attitude that it's none of her business and as if she was waiting to go home. Very impolite. Another tall man helped me to pay but was in very cold attitude too. Regarding men's department/pajama and undergarment area: went here to browse for a small christmas gift for my husband after we received coupons for $10 and 20$ off. I found two items I liked and when I was checking out the cashier said that the coupon was not working. So I asked her to call her manager, which she did not do. Instead her fellow cashier next to her just said that the coupon didn't work on certain brands. Suddenly my cashier tells me that I am already getting the item at 50% off. Which I knew was total BS, unless you happen to be unable to do basic math (Item was 45$ and marked off to 30$). After she got called out on her BS, she tried to fix it by being "nice" and thanking me for shopping there. I get it that it's just a job to her, but I had never heard this "the coupon doesn't work when I scan it" BS! followed by no attempt to figure out why...unbelievable! I was in a rush and didn't have time to talk to a manager but I hope they really work on their customer service. read more

I am so disappointed with this Macy's. The UTC mall went under major construction to update the outdated mall. Macy's however is still outdated, horrible floor plan, beware of going to the upper levels of the store, you may never find your way out. It's so frustrating when your in a hurry and need to run in and out for something, forget about it! When you finally find something you want to purchase, good luck in finding someone to ring you up. All in all disappointed that they didn't bother updating the store when the rest of the mall has been updated. Never dealing with this Macy's ever again. I placed an order online in the morning, my card was charged, and it said it would be ready for pick up in store in two hours. I came after work to be told by the employees that it's not ready yet and there's nothing I can do about it. They did not give me an estimated time and I was just told "idk why online they tell you two hours". I waited until 8pm until another employee said oh this was assigned to me and wasn't suppose to be and that's why the item hasn't been pulled yet. So I wait another hour for her to find it and process it in the system and it ends up being too big. She states for my inconvenience she would mail a smaller size to my home with the expedited shipping and it'll be there by the 26th. I agreed and she said if it is not then call this number. This morning I received an email saying it will not arrive until the 29th so I called obviously upset after all the crap I went through yesterday and all the woman had to tell me was it was delayed and once again nothing I can do about it so the expedited shipping was pointless. These employees don't give a crap about their customers, my card has been charged twice, and I would of much rather saved all that time and gas and gone elsewhere. Get better UTC Macy's, you have one job and you suck at it. read more

Went to pick up some sweaters and a jacket and bought nothing. The clothes were matched to the wrong hangers, which is extremely annoying. When I pick up a size xl and it ends up being a xs or when the hanger says 36 but the pants are a 28. Its shit like this that pisses me off. I don't have time for that bs. I asked a worker there about it and she said that's just how it is, they never match and you have to sort through all the tags. This was EVERY piece of clothing. Every other Macy's I have been to were not like this. Also the clothing section is a huge mess. Its like a mini tornado struck there. I'm not a big Macy's fan, but needed blush. Spent time choosing one at the Lancôme counter - only to find that they were out of that color. They seem to be out of things more often than not. They offered to mail it to me, which I agreed to, thinking that the shipping was free. But no, they wanted to charge me $10 for shipping (the product only weighs about an ounce.....). The second representative informed me that I would have to wait for 2 hours on hold just to talk to her supervisor. After 1 hour of holding the phone, they just hanged up on me. I informed the sales associate in the women's section in La Jolla UTC that I was making a return. I offered my Macy's card and she said "I got it". She also told me to go to the 3rd floor where I can return the other items for kids. After the transaction was completed, I hurriedly went to the 3rd floor as instructed & returned the items & offered my Macy's card and was again told by the sales associate, "I got it". It was not until 7:30 pm at home when I checked my receipts that I realized both the associates returned the credit to the persons who purchased the gifts for me and my son. Unfortunately, the store was already close by then. I called customer assistance & was given the choice either to fax my receipts or go to the store and speak to the manager. I decided to go back to the store the following day after my work on a working weekday. The first response I got from the same sales associate who rang my return at the women's section was "You should have done this yesterday?" REALLY??!! Is that customer service???!!! First of all, she was sloppy enough to return the credit to another card instead of looking at my card or ask for a store credit then now she has the nerve to assume that I dilly-dallied on the mistake as if I intentionally wanted to lose my $50 worth of hard-earned money!!!! How about the manager? Said she will call the credit company but after 10-15 minutes came back offered an insincere "I'm sorry" with no initiative to even say that she will make steps that this would not happen again to another customer or try to at least offer a discount or whatever! I also called the card customer service and spoke to a representative who said that it has never been Macy's policy that they take an item and credit that to the person who returned the item?! REALLY??!!!How can he dispute my great experience at Macy's Newport?! I was much a happier customer & felt cared for in Newport compared to the sloppy service afforded by the associate and manager in La Jolla. Macy's should review their return policies and should probably learn from other stores who are more customer-friendly when it comes to returns. I think the only way they can understand how the customers feel is to put them in our exact position - trying to scramble for time to do the returns or exchange in the midst of worrying about a hundred things then having to drive back on a working weekday to correct someone else's mistake only to be turned down and at the same time make the customer feel it was his/her fault that he/she did not take/check the receipt on time. read more

She is very knowledgeable about what works for the individual, and she is charming and fun making the consultation a very pleasant experience. It is a plus that she understands mature skin. The makeup that she recommended is the most flattering and highest quality of any that I have tried. read more

Buyer beware. Do not purchase online. I ordered some 50% off items on Cyber Monday. Was told I would have the items in 3 to 5 days. After 2 weeks past, I checked the tracking and it just said packaged and ready to go. I tried contacting customer service through chat but it was a computer and I could not speak to a live agent. I tried calling and was on hold for over 10 minutes. I finally sent an email which I was promised a response in 24 hours. I did not receive a response for two days. I was than told the package was on its way. After 3 1/2 weeks after I placed my order, I received one out of the three items. Since these are beauty products, you can't use one without the other. I finally got a hold of an agent and she told me she would reorder the missing items. After a few minutes on hold she informed me the items are no longer available. This review is only for the newly opened MAC cosmetics inside Macy's. I had gone there to try the makeup products and I was ready to buy some of them after the trial. The lady, first of all, took half an hour just to start with me. I understand they have to look at the customers also so I was being patient. The next half an hour, she started with the makeup and only the left eyebrow was done during that time. I was still being patient. THEN one other person came in and asked for the trial, she was immediately seated (she didn't have an appointment either as they were not giving appoontments on Sunday). The same person who was doing makeup for me was assigned to her and started with her makeup. Now my patience was wearing thin. In the next half hour, the new person had got more makeup on her face than me. So after 1 and a half hour, I had still got only 1 eyebrow done. I was super irritated and I decided to walk off. AND when I told the makeup person that, She ROLLED HER EYES IN FRONT OF ME as if I was some kind of a dumb person. I am not coming back here ever again. Tonight we were walking pass michael kors, my friend, her daughter, my daughter, and myself was looking at michael kors after our dinner. We were headed out because it was almost 9 but on our way we just wanted to look at some keychains at mk, one of the worker( a women with glasses, chunky) who was closing cash register (i think) came up to us and said "she has no hair, she looks like a boy" to my friends daughter. Humiliating a little one year old. And she continues with " why are they not asleep, its 9 o'clock" at that point i was so shocked that she made such rude comments that i couldnt say anything back so we just left. But as i think about it more im so angry! Why would she say something like that! Its not like we were making a mess or anything we were just looking! I am very angry and disappointed. Macys should not hire a rude workers like that, you just lost customers. I would never ever go back to macys. I hope macys supervisor or manager reads this yelp review and do something about this worker! Becauseim pretty sure she will hurt more customers by making rude comments! I had an excellent experience yesterday when I was in the store. I had a return in the shoe department and the lady was lovely. She did everything to make me feel welcome and gave me the sale price from Saturday on the exchanged Clarks shoes. There was a great lady in the Style&Co dept who looked all over for a shirt I wanted and was willing to order it off her computer for me. There was a line and I had to get back to work so I called this morning. The person who answered today was terrible. First she put me on hold for 10 minutes and when I called back she was very rude. Her name was Christa. I gave 4 stars because if I had written the review yesterday it would have been 5 stars. One person like Christa can change your opinion so rapidly. I wish I had the names of the two ladies who were so great. It's my usual style to only compliment but I feel the Christa needs some more education when it comes to customer relations... read more
