on Aug 20 i accompanied my mother on a trip to Macys. We went into the cosmetic section to refill her Clinique foundation. When we approached the counter seeking help from the three girls that were working , yet were ignored. eventually one of them decided to come by and try to assist. We asked for the foundation color my mom uses which is a #7 , quickly we were told they did not carry her skin tone without even checking the drawers , let alone have it as a tester for the public. we were told to go to a Macys in another location. my concern is why don't you have all shades of foundation and why should i have to go to another location when i live in this vicinity. When I think Macy's I think big, impersonal retail marketing machine, not gonna lie. But today, while on vacation 3,000 miles away from home, when I realized the dress I thought I rented would not arrive in time for an event I have tomorrow night, I was in a panic! I did some browsing at Macy's online and found some dresses, but none were available at the Palm Desert location, the only one near me. So I just gave it a shot and called into the Calvin Klein department where Angel (so aptly named) completely hooked me up! We looked at dresses together online (her at the store, me at my hotel) and she helped me pick one in the right size, style and price point for me. I was so happy with her service, I had her help me get shoes to go with it! In a world where so many things are automated and impersonal, and in a store where honestly Angel could have just phoned it in, instead she PHONED it in for a big win with me! Thank you Angel! I'm rating the store but I am mostly rating "Sydney" in the men's department. If I could give this gentleman 10 gold starts I would. Sydney has gone above and beyond what any sales associate would do anywhere. He has helped my sons and I twice in finding and fitting perfect suits. My sons are very tall and one is skinny and one is stocky. Both very hard to find properly fitting suits. Sydney saved the day for us both times. He was extremely attentative, and helpful. This is why I came back the second time, and he did not disappoint. What a wonderful, elegant, friendly, and sincere guy. I hope Macy's realizes what an extraordinary employee they have. Macy's is going downhill and this place reflects that immensely. Customer service is horrible. It seems that management is on a downward spiral and that is the trickle effect on the terrible choice of customer service employees...or lack of. Someone in corporate needs to re-work this whole department store if it were to stay open. Otherwise turn it into something where customer care is the primer and people can feel good shopping again. It's a hodge podge of bottom of the barrel lack of training and following corporate guidelines to make your consumers feel welcome. Seriously, if we are desperate to go to Macy's we'll just road trip it to our hometown area near South Coast Plaza...now THAT'S a Macy's: Caring customer service, top notch designers, people who go out of their way to help you. It's like night and day comparison. You shop at a Macy's like that, where people love their job, love their customers, go out of their way to help you and appreciate your business, it's worth it, then you come to this Macy's at Palm Desert where everyone looks like they work there at gunpoint or something and hate life and mankind in general, it's ridiculous....if you're desperate (i.e. need something not found elsewhere) go run in and purchase and run out...otherwise don't make it a special trip, this place has probably the worst reputation for customer service in retail in this valley. The girl at the counter put 12 different shades of pink on my face saying "let's try this." Every time. I pointed to the brown one and said , let's try that. 40+ year loyal Macy's customer is DONE with this dying department store chain due to their horrible customer service. I won't bore you with the whole ordeal, except to say I was tricked into spending more money by opening a Macy's credit card, was not given the discount promised me, and over two days spent almost FOUR hours on the phone with one incompetent "customer service" rep after another trying to correct the situation. All the reps were located in the Philippines and spoke like robots... apologizing for my frustration, promising to correct the matter, but all unable to make the adjustment or reach their own supervisors. Finally on the second day after being transferred to four different people, I reached the supervisor who apologized for what I'd been promised in-store and on the phone, but he would not correct the problem. He offered me a small discount but said he would have to transfer me yet again and I would have to make an additional phone service fee. I cancelled my new account and told him I would be returning my nearly $800 in purchases, which I will be doing today. Such a shame. Worked with a sales guy named Manny, I found him to be insightful and courteous. He asked me if I needed any help as I pursued the men's polo department and he pointed out where the sales racks were a cross the way. I enjoyed working with him and didn't go to the sales rack I decided to buy all my clothes from his department and signed up for Macy's card. I appreciate good old fashion great customer service and think he did an awesome job. I look forward to being a repeat customer in his department. read more

I don't think enough people write about the good service they receive. There is so much negativity in the world I promised myself I will Yelp anytime I have great service no matter where it is. Typically at this Macy's the employees always say hello but sometimes it just seems forced. This trip, Jasmine, in the women's clothing section was not only genuinely friendly but beyond helpful. She explained every discount, frequent shopper programs, and future sale promotions. If your looking for a great makeup artist, I recommend visiting Deborah at the Clinique counter! I have been seeing her for almost a year now and every time she always gives me personalized service. She is very sweet and very attentive to others needs. I started using Clinique foundation about 6 months ago and I am hooked on phonics! All the Clinique line is amazing and the quality is great! The best for every day foundation, which is how I've been using it. Also the 3 step facial cleansing system is the best! When I came to first use Clinique super balanced foundation, original I was looking for two things. I needed a face cleansing system because I had discovered a rash on my face due to using an over the counter mousse foundation so skin care was important and needed a new everyday foundation because the one I was using was no longer working! My dad splurged and bought me a expensive purse from Macy's for Christmas. I absoluety loved it.. my favorite brand, color and style everything a young women could want for a present. Unfortunately after only a couple of times using it I noticed the purse was defective. The zipper was curving and the side pocket stuck out. Hard time zipping it. For a purse that cost that much it shouldn't be doing that!! Today I went in for a refund. Honestly, at first the sales manager hesitated and didn't seem like she was going to return it. I like this store, but the only reason why I give this place 3 stars is because I think my mom made me a bitter towards this place cause she always spends like half the day at Macy's. Like I was afraid if someone kidnapped her or if she abandoned me and forgot about me (cause she did forget me at the movie theater one time haha). id call her phone and she would never pick up. Then I find her out of luck, but there should be a track my mom app on phones so you can find your mom. She gets distracted and must stop in ever department. When we get here she spends a long time here then I urge her to go to other stores. When it's time to leave we have to walk through Macy's again so she gets side tracked and hypnotized by the bags and shoes and decides to spend another 2 hours here. I am currently suffering in the car writing this review in the 111 degree weather (yes I know I could go inside but I had enough of Macy's for the day) anyways I for side tracked. I'm in the middle with Macy's. Sometimes they really do have good stuff and sometimes their stuff is whatever to me. I do like their designed purses and wallets. I bought an expensive piece of clothing that tore the moment I put it on. Obviously the material was a lot cheaper than what I paid for. I took it back and was informed that since it was no longer sellable, I could not return it. Yikes! To clarify I asked what would happen if I bought a cooking appliance or a toy that fell apart on me when I got it home, would I not be able to return it? The salesperson confirmed this. Shocking but then perhaps this is yet another location slated for closure...would that lead them to halt returns of defective merchandise? I don't know enough about the retail world to guess. What I do know is that earlier in the day I had returned a used, dirty air fryer to Kohl's after 30 days and without a receipt explaining I didn't like the taste of the food it made and there were no questions asked. Fortunately I had bought the clothing on my Macy's card and when I called customer service they reversed the charge. Well this scenario has happened to me before so this time I'm sharing my experience. I went to look for a pair of earrings for my mother since her birthday is next week. The employee working was a petite short hair blond wearing all black. She was busy with a customer so I browsed looking in the cases and displays. I made sure to make myself seen so she would know I needed help when she finished her transaction. She never acknowledged me or said a word. By the way, I was the only Black lady standing there. Don't believe I could have been missed. Anywho, She finished the transaction, came out of the the booth right past me to ask another Caucasian lady who had just walked up to the end of the counter if she needed any help. The customer stated she didn't and the employee said ok if you need any help let me know and walked off. At that point I was done and decided to go somewhere else to purchase earrings for my mother. read more

This macy's is a disappointment. It is disorganized and it doesn't have a very helpful staff. One salesperson left to check on a pair of jeans for me and came back 12 mins. later to tell me they didn't have them. I think she forgot until she saw me. They do have MAC, and lots of other good cosmetic lines. They have a good amount of BCBG, Seven, DKNY, as well as some smaller but cool brands. The shoe department is improving as far as inventory. If you need bras or panties go see Katherine-she is great! The home section is pretty large also. They have some great higher quality linens. Men's is alright for clothing but men's shoes are almost non-existent. read more

My husband and I went to Macy's Furniture Gallery to shop for a new mattress. Our salesman Stan was fine (the second star is for him), patiently explaining the features of many different mattresses while we walked around and tried them for quite a while, after all it's a big purchase costing thousands of dollars. We had narrowed it down to a few, then a really strange thing happened. Over the intercom, Stan was told to report to the bedding department (which we were in) customers waiting. He dutifully walked over to the desk, where some people had a request to see something, apparently somewhere else in the store, as he disappeared with them. We continued to compare mattresses for a few more minutes. There were no other customers in the department. None of the other sales people - some were doing paperwork at desks, a woman was arranging materials on a bed nearby, a man was pacing and looking unfriendly - said anything. So eventually we left. Since I cannot write one for Macy's online I have to give it to my local store. I purchased a Martha Stewert pot which had a rebate of $20.00. Box did not have upc on box other than sticker. Customer service stated to stick this sticker on the rebate form and send in which I did. I get a response that I place the incorrect upc on form. Since I took pictures I had all info. Called customer service and they confirmed the # was correct. Sent all info with pictures of all forms to customer service at macys.com and they still can't get it correct. This is why Macy is going down the tubes, bad service and all the bs. Costco provides rebates and they deduct at register and me the customer gets it right there. Here it's not even worth the time BUT I will eventually get to the office of the president and that will be worth it. read more

I purchased leather furniture from Macy's in Palm Desert in 2/2017. The cost was over $3700.00. I asked the sales woman about why the cushions were not removable and was told this protects the sofa from dirt and dust. I was encouraged to purchase warranty service in case anything went wrong with the set. There was a big deal made over this coverage so I bought it. That cost was almost $400.00. Six months into ownership the back cushion and seat on the left side began to show excessive signs of wear. At this time I was very ill with a heath issue that I am still trying to resolve so I could not do anything about the wear of the sofa. i was finally able to visit the store in April 2018 to advise the salesperson of my concerns about the sofa. I was told to file a claim. I did. The company who handles the claim said it is not covered. I told the salesperson and was told there was nothing they could do about this. At this point I have to give this sofa to charity as it is unacceptable. No one from Macy's even came to look at how the sofa looks. I gave them pictures but it meant nothing. I owned a leather sofa for over 15 years and it was moved several times and looked as good as the day I bought it. I just wanted something new. That sofa went to charity. Macy's did not stand behind this purchase at all and just blew me off. I advise anyone who reads this to be very careful when you consider making any high end purchase at this store. I have been a Macy's customer for over 50 years. If I could give a minus-negative rating I would do so. I am unlikely to ever make another purchase at this store which is a terrible inconvenience as it is the only major department store in the desert. read more

Recently purchased 2 leather recliners (Hannon made by Simon Li almost $1000 each ON SALE!). Chairs that were delivered were hard, overstuffed lumbar cushion & very uncomfortable. Measurements varied more than 1-1/2" from store model! We called as soon as they were delivered (within 3 hours) Macy's refuses to waive 15% restocking fees. Not asking for refund picked out two equally expensive chairs to replace these. This should be a problem between Macy's & their supplier (Simon Li) & not us! Worst customer service ever! I have been a customer of Macy's since the Palm Desert store opened but Macy's has no customer loyalty! This is why Nordstrom's is #1- they value their customers & respond to complaints! I absolutely love Clinique and I knew they had started their free gift with purchase so I went today thinking it wasn't going to be so busy, boy was I wrong. I'm going on vacation next week and I was all out of make up. I went in to get my usual when the consultant asked me how long I had been wearing the same one and same color. It's been quite a while since anyone's asked so I let her rematch my color. After figuring out I had been wearing the wrong color she also suggested a better formula for my skin. She was so warming and so patient she made me feel like if I had known her for quite sometime. She provided such great service even with all of the chaos happening around us. The consultant was much younger then I am which made me think she wasn't going to understand my concerns, but understood and was so knowledgeable about everything. She took the time to cater to me and focus on me instead of just getting my usual and sending me on my way. I was so happy with this experience I had to share it with her counter manager as well, which was super friendly as well. Plus I got myself my free gift!! This review is not only negative about the local store but mores about the chain as a whole and its credit card system. My recent experience over the past several months is a lesson on just how difficult it can be to possess and use credit cards. Macy's is one of those stores that hooks you into using their credit card for purchases so you can get their "deals". Most of those deals end up to be on clearance items that have been in the shop for seasons and are at 60 - 70% off. Macy's switched cards and financial institutions last year. I accidentally paid through my bank bill pay to the old agency, nevertheless the money ($300) went to Macys. For 3 months I was on the phone with various people each telling me they saw the misdirected payment and would rectify the error. Then I got dunning notices and I called and they had cancelled my card. I called and complained that this cancellation would erroneously hurt my credit, they said they would try to see if they could reinstate the card and would call me back. They never did, but then they started sending me statements saying I had a $75. credit. So I assume the card has been reinstated, but when I went to the store it was declined. Macy's will not reinstate or replace my card. My credit score is now decreased by 100 pts. They say I need to apply for a new card . . . fat chance! Barb S read more
