MACY'S PALM DESERT is insensitive, discriminatory, and unprofessional towards people with disabilities... My disability is a hand tremor which is in both hands that reduces my fine motor skills. I've learned to move beyond and become an accomplished photographer and abstract artist. I honestly thought I had found inner peace regarding my physical challenges and sometimes I forget they are there. All it takes is one insensitive and discriminatory act to undo years of growth. This action made me become frozen in disbelief and took away my ability to be able to speak up for myself and shut down the discriminatory diatribe by the Macy's employee. On March 29, 2023 I walked up to an associate to pay for a number of items. She immediately asked "Can you tell me why your hands are shaking?" I was amazed at how brash a sales rep could be and immediately felt a combination of being extremely self-conscious, attacked, and angry. Many responses ran through my mind but decided to keep my cool and not spout off with language that was confrontational. I let a steely look suffice and simply said, it's a familial hand tremor I've had since birth. She obviously was not able to read the glance and pushed further and said "Wow, all your life that is a long time, I was about to ask you how long you've been dealing with it". She still was not silenced by my pissed off look and asked, "is it one or both hands?" I found myself putting my hands into my pockets to hide the tremors which get worse with embarrassment. She brought me back to grade school and the teasing I endured. I gave her an perturbed look. I was afraid not to answer fearing more questioning and in a pissed off way simply said, both. She was not going to stop and instead then said, "wow both hands, was that difficult for you all your life?" I thought about walking away from this judgemental and unenlightened employee but said to myself, no don't let her win! She still continued her evaluation of my physical short comings and said, "I'm into anything medical and like to learn about it all, I like asking questions when I see things". I turned and looked away from her to keep my combination of embarrassment and anger in check. Luckily, finding two price tags on an item stymied her and she had to call an associate over for help to figure out what to do. Though she did not listen to the directions she was given and talked over her associate who was trying to assist her. I was so flummoxed that a person employed by what I thought was a reputable and professional organization called out my hand tremors even though the tremor was not impacting my ability to place the items on the counter. I was mad that I was once again paralyzed verbally when I am embarrassed about my disability and could not find the words to shut her down and stop the banter. I should have told her how unprofessional she was acting and that her questioning any person with a disability about what is wrong, went wrong, how long they've been dealing with it, what treatments they have had, etc, especially a customer is not appropriate and actually is hurtful. Obviously the hiring process Macy's now uses does nothing to determine if the applicant has any ability to speak in a professional and sensitive way towards people different than themselves. Macy's used to take pride in its team customer training but it has disappeared and is non-existent. The Macy's 'Star" has dimmed and is now a "falling star" when it comes to how they deal with customers. We, those who keep the stores open in our community have other options for shopping. Those options don't include being belittled, mentally abused, and caused to have flashbacks after a lifetime of working to excel because we are handi-capable! Beware of the falling "Star" which is now Macy's! By the way, the items I bought are being returned (they don't deserve my money after this treatment) so I can have a face to face conversation with the store manager and get the name of the district manager to push this further. read more

Wow, I go to the Macys shoe department looking for a specific shoe for my daughter's wedding. No one approaches us for 20 mins. We find a shoe that will work and go to the register, and the Lady named BJ looks at me and says there a line back there which no one was standing in and says it rudely. So we go to the line, and someone else walks up to BJ, and she helps her. Not inline, just didn't have a clearance shoe in her hand as I did. I guess you should have approached us and sold something. So the associate standing next to her takes the clearance shoe and gets the other one without eye contact without FU, without thanks, as if we were I was visible. No wonder Macy's is in so much trouble. Very disappointed. Used to be a good store. They'll end up like pier one with customer service like that. Really a shame. read more

My husband and I had the best experience in the Home Decor department. We purchased a full bedding set from the Hotel collection which is a bit pricey, however, the customer service was so good he gladly moved forward with the purchase. We were assisted by the women that has been in that department for 36 years, I wish I remembered her name.. Joanne perhaps? In any event, her old school way of doing business, respect for the customer and knowledge surpasses any customer service experience we have received in a long time. This is a great store with a great selection in each department. And, you can actually buy high quality bathing suits in February! The staff was very friendly and helpful. I did quite a bit of shopping in the Last Act Department, which has such a big selection of clothing that they have to put it outside of the main store and add it to the furniture department in it's own sectioned off area. I only go to Macy's every 3 months to get this one makeup product I use. Three months ago I gave the salesperson the product and she said she had it and showed me the package that it is sealed in. I said this is not the same package as last time. She said they might have changed the package but it is the same product inside. I left and drove home which took 40 minutes. Open the package And find it was a different product. Had to drive back. No wonder people only shop online with such inept people working for them. I blame their poor training . You are losing customers right and left. Today the same thing happened. Luckily I checked and opened the package before I left the store and still at the makeup counter. I had already paid with a debit card literally three minutes before my discovery and she said because it is a debit card each product has a different scan number so I had to be issued a refund that would show up on my card in a few days and pay again. I could not believe it! Now double the money has been deducted from my account. Salespeople could care less of the inconvenience to you. Closest place that sells that product but I will try to find another place to get it even if I have to drive an hour. read more

I've enjoyed going to this Macy's for years now and it's still my go to but I was sad when I went looking for Nike sports bras and was told by an associate that Nike pulled from the stores. Very judgmental and stereotypical fragrance sales associate. As soon as my husband and I walked in, the Mens cologne sales associate very loudly verbalized to his associate that he thought we weren't going to buy anything. I went to the Laura Mercier counter to return a foundation I did not like and was instead accused of using half the foundation when I only used it once. Heidi is the name of the girl who accused me and was so rude. I told her I only used it once and told her I would like my money back and she seemed so frustrated cause i didn't want to exchange it for anything and literally walked away from me while talking to her. I don't care how "frustrated" you are, you don't turn and walk away from a customer. She insisted on me exchanging it for something else and when I kept denying her, that's when she accused me. One was missing I asked if I could purchase the three with a discount and order the rest online. they told me I couldn't purchase them at all as they were display models and they had none in stock. There is a jewel in the Men's department (Levi's, etc) named Mildred. Mildred couldn't be nicer. She is 94 years young, and I couldn't be happier with anyone else waiting on me as I purchased a few items. She started out by saying "I'm a little slower than the rest if you don't mind waiting?" I was happy to wait as she rang up my items. We had a nice chat at the same time. I helped fold the clothes as she entered each item, and when it was all over, I was glad to have met her. I gave her a big hug and felt like she was almost a part of my family. I don't know her schedule, but I can tell you that next time I go to Macy's I will be looking for her to assist me again. My experience was not great at Macy's Palm Desert! Understanding Christmas is a tough time on all department stores! Employees need to understand every customer is important. Otherwise customers have a better shopping experience online. Since, I have shopped at other Macy's locations some been great experienced. Thinking about other Macy's have closed down. I took the day off work today and I came in today shopping for my birthday. I have good news and bad news. The good news is I had an extremely kind woman named Laura help me to find some gorgeous earrings that fit exactly what I wanted. She helped me for about an hour and a half she was very patient and helpful. Bad news; Although afterwards I went downstairs and was helped by a much younger woman at the cash register medium below shoulder length brown hair, name tag was covered. She asked me if I wanted to apply for a credit card. I said no. She asked me if I wanted to sign up for the bronze rewards. She said it's not a credit card you get discounts. So I agreed. As long as it's not a credit card I said. She starts filling out all of my information and at the end of the questionnaire it asks me what card I am applying for... so she turns to her coworker and tells her I'm only signing up for the bronze program so why is it asking this? Her coworker says "because you just applied her for a credit card." I said "and that's going to lower my credit because you just ran it" without my permission. Are you kidding me? Her coworker says "well she already did it so do you want the credit card?" I said "no I don't want a credit card this is the third time I'm saying it" no apology, respect or anything. So then I go back upstairs and find a skirt on a rack that says 50% off. The skirt was about $60 originally. So I bet rung up by another lady and she says "it's $65" I said "the rack said it was 50% off" she said "well that's not what it's ringing up as but you can show me where you got it" so I take her all the way over to the rack and she says that the skirts are scattered all over the store so "I can't honor that" I said this is a huge rack of skirts all together with the sign right on it. She then comes up with this "the 50% off sign is on the left side not the right, it's very specific" I said "well that's false advertising and very misleading" she shrugged and just walked away refusing honoring their own advertisement. Worst shopping experience ever. I am a thirty something African American female. I walked into the Macy's Women department looking for a suit for my sister/ with my sister. Walked into the department and was never greeted, instead we were followed around like we were planning to steal. Then when we caught the woman following us, instead of trying to help us - she ran away. I at some point caught up with her to ask about suit seperates; she of course claimed they didn't carry any.... even though they were located on the back wall where everyone could see. When I told her that, she just stood there quietly. Macy's customer service and this facility are both eroding. Difficult to find help and not overly crowded at the time. Also - everything done in zone coverage so one retail specialist cannot help you for more than a few feet. Had to work with three different associates in 75 feet. The store itself is not well maintained. Chairs in shoe section worn and arm rests have years of dirt buildup. Need some better processes and a remodel. The store itself is just fine, a clean dept. store. If you shop there often they will give you discount coupons. My wife uses the discounts often. The only problem I have with the store is that it is always understaffed. No matter when you go you always have a long wait to pay for your stuff. Here it is peak shopping time of the year and we had to wait forever at the checkout line. We finally had enough and put down the items we were going to buy in the fine China dept. and walked out. This was a Thursday morning. We went to other stores in the mall and Steinmart to finish our shopping. We would have rather just done all our shopping at Macy's, but the lack of staff is too frustrating. The staff is very friendly and helpful, but overwhelmed. read more

I have been a Macys customer for over 25 years. I have purchased something in a Macys store probably every month. But today I received the most deplorable service. I wanted to make a purchase for about $500 (I was in purses). My card was declined, I made a payment to make sure my account was current. Still declined, went on the app and it said I had plenty of credit. I asked the staff clerk to call customer service and they told me to go outside to call myself. I called and after spending over 20 minutes on hold they told me they had locked my account for my benefit. WHAT? So I had to go back to the register the staff clerk talked to Macys customer service on my cell phone then they had to send me a text message and then they had to get the transaction number from the staff clerk and then they talked to me and then they talked to the clerk to finish the transaction. All while the line is growing behind me. I was humiliated. Finished the sale and asked to speak to a customer service supervisor who told me it was a high amount and they did it for my protection. I explained how humiliated I felt, the length of time I have been with Macys and reminded her there are plenty of other stores I could shop at and she basically said ok. I told her there had to be a better way and she blamed the clerk for ignoring the code that comes up when they want to verify purchase id. SO no one took responsibility for treating a long time customer without an ounce of respect, in front of a LINE of customers in the most humiliating way. The actual store is kept nice and neat looking. The staff is hit or miss. The lady in the lingerie dept was rude and unhelpful, whereas the shoe staff were really nice. Just recently I was shopping in the women's apparel dept and found a shirt I wanted to buy. I also had a pair of sandals I wanted to return/exchange and the lady told me she couldn't just do an exchange. I had to go to the shoe dept and do a separate transaction for the shoes. I don't understand, it's all the same company and the money is going to the same place. That was an inconvenience. The shoe dept has a poor selection in my opinion, compared to other Macy's stores I've been to. The girls 2T-12 dept is yuck! All they have is cheap Hello Kitty or Disney princess clothes that are not age-appropriate in some cases. I was disappointed in the wedding registry dept. We registered at Macy's for our wedding and received several duplicate gifts. Macy's will only allow a store credit for anything bought under wedding registry, no $ refunds. They do have pretty good sales though during certain times of the year. Overall I'd give it 2.5 stars if I could, I'm being generous by giving Macy's 3 stars. read more

OMG! Went to Origins because I got a mailer for 3 free samples with the purchase of 1 skin care product. Katie helped me and offered me a mini facial. My face went from flushed to amazing in about 20 minutes. It was hard for me to decide which Origins products to buy because they're all so wonderful. However, some of them can be pricey. I decided on 3 products to purchase and then got my samples. As for the products I didn't purchase (and I plan to purchase them soon!), Katie made up samples for all of them for me. So wonderful! This Macy's is just fine as far as they go. Their selection of Women's clothing always appears on the drab side tho and can be hard to find a salesperson many times. Same for shoes. on Aug 20 i accompanied my mother on a trip to Macys. We went into the cosmetic section to refill her Clinique foundation. When we approached the counter seeking help from the three girls that were working , yet were ignored. eventually one of them decided to come by and try to assist. We asked for the foundation color my mom uses which is a #7 , quickly we were told they did not carry her skin tone without even checking the drawers , let alone have it as a tester for the public. we were told to go to a Macys in another location. my concern is why don't you have all shades of foundation and why should i have to go to another location when i live in this vicinity. This Macy's always has what I need and more. Every visit is always a great one because of the helpfulness of the staff. I have a Macy's card too because of how they sold it to me...plus no annual fee is awesome! I come here for watches and cologne. They always have all the latest colognes in stock and can help you pinpoint just what I need. The watch section also has a great variety...I try to avoid this section when shopping for cologne due to my tendency of getting a watch every time I stop by here. I also come here to get perfume gifts for friends, family and that special someone. It's always fun to choose a perfume with the older women here because of how I describe to them what I want hahaha "It needs to more sexy....vibrant" their facial expressions when I tell them that are priceless. Overall 5 stars because I have not had any bad service or turned away empty handed! Plus I always seem to get a free gift for the amount I spend here too. read more

When I think Macy's I think big, impersonal retail marketing machine, not gonna lie. But today, while on vacation 3,000 miles away from home, when I realized the dress I thought I rented would not arrive in time for an event I have tomorrow night, I was in a panic! I did some browsing at Macy's online and found some dresses, but none were available at the Palm Desert location, the only one near me. So I just gave it a shot and called into the Calvin Klein department where Angel (so aptly named) completely hooked me up! We looked at dresses together online (her at the store, me at my hotel) and she helped me pick one in the right size, style and price point for me. I was so happy with her service, I had her help me get shoes to go with it! In a world where so many things are automated and impersonal, and in a store where honestly Angel could have just phoned it in, instead she PHONED it in for a big win with me! Thank you Angel!
